First time coming to Pilothouse at the Delta King! I stopped by for the Sunset Sips experience and stayed for an early dinner. I made a reservation; however, the happy hour deals are exclusive to the bar. I didn't mind moving since the dining room was empty. You could hear a pin drop, and I just didn't feel comfortable in there. Once we moved to the bar at the next level, it was a more lively atmosphere, but not obnoxious. Staff were attentive, and we started with drinks, apps, and we both ordered salads as our entrees. I honestly felt hesitant about the food from all the negative reviews, but went out on a whim for the happy hour deal. Cesar salad was $11 instead of $17, which feels steep for what it is. Highlights for our table included the lavender matcha martini and loaded fries. We also enjoyed our Cesar salads - one order with chicken and the other with salmon. Salmon fillet was a generous portion size and came with crispy skin! I'd skip on the mushroom toast, as it was nothing spectacular. It took some time to close out, and we had an issue with our bill. We were overcharged for the Cesar salads, which reflected dinner pricing. We brought this issue to the bartender, and she was very polite and helpful in adjusting our bill. Our server was also apologetic for the mistake. Mistakes happen, and I appreciated how this was resolved.

It Yelp would have allowed it would have given them 3.5 stars. My recommendation is to know ahead ahead of time what you are getting into. The boat is very cool and I would definitely sit outside so you can enjoy the view of the river as well as the breeze on a nice day. I found it to be very relaxing and would go again. The Service- Friendly. The Food- This is where the wheels started to come off the bus. New England Clam Chowder- Was okay but I would get something else next time. Fish and Chips- The breading they use on the fish made it kind of doughy. I would not get this again. French Dip- Once you dipped it it was so salty that you could not eat it. I would not get it again. I think the next time I go back it will be more of a cocktails and appetizers kind of thing.

Spent our anniversary here and location-wise, absolutely no complaints. Valet parking made it convenient and it is centrally located, easy to walk around before or after dinner. Restaurant itself was not bad. A little bit pricey for the food and kind of usual dining experience. We went upstairs for some drinks but it seems like the bar closes early and they really did not have any more drinks aside from wine. Kind of a letdown for looking forward for some margaritas on some warm nights. The accommodation while small works for us. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Service was good, too. Glad we chose to stay here!

This is a pretty cool experience and has great views. The first two things I tried were the shrimp scampi and the clam chowder. Both were very delicious. For dinner I had the Frisee salad and I will have to say the lardons in this salad are a bit over powering when paired with the vinaigrette. Overall the waitress that took care of us was very kind and provided awesome service.

We came here this past Sunday after we became parched from all the walking we've been doing. A lot of people were eating lunch when we arrived. Most of the tables outside were taken so we sat inside. I love sitting outside it's so serene. They have a TV in their upstairs bar, but they didn't have the game on, the 49ers were playing. If they had the game on we would have stayed longer. Another couple at the bar were excited for the game being put on when we asked if they got the game, but no on actually put it on. Either way it's a nice place to grab a drink. It's so calming and peaceful being on the Delta King. You have a lovely view of the riverbanks and you're away from the crowds. They also have a women's bathroom upstairs that has two stalls. It's bigger then it looks on the outside. It's to the right of the staircase if you're going down. It's clearly marked. I believe they have a second restroom downstairs for the dining room guests. I ordered a root beer and was surprised on how small a glass it was in. They may have had free refills, but I didn't ask.

Stayed overnight December 17th at the Delta King at the waterfront in old Sacramento. Because I joined the Captains Club at the beginning of the year I earned a complimentary night! It's so fun here...we literally can walk to everything! Pilot House upstairs is great for a more casual lunch with cocktails. Indoor and outside seating. I feel SAFE at night because it is well lit with shops and restaurants to walk to. Family friendly! The beautiful 60 foot Christmas tree is right in front of the Delta King! Walk to the Polar Express train! Great shops to satisfy your Christmas list! Thank you again ANGEL...KAREN..and SHARON who were on duty during our visit. They are wonderful ladies that take care of the clientele with class and expert service! A TEAM! Love this place!!! See you next year!

So I've decided to do one thing off my bucket list each year. One of the these has been to stay overnight on the Delta King for the 4th of July and watch the fireworks. The view of the fireworks was amazing! You could hear cheers from the Oakland A's vs. Giants game as well. I booked the room a few months in advance. This is key as I found out that the same room was going for almost $700 a day before the 4th. I paid $245 before taxes which seemed a bit extravagant for me. Highly recommend the 3rd floor as you get less foot traffic and it feels more private. Parking is valet for $30. We ended up parking at the Amtrak parking lot which allows you to do overnight with the app, it was about half the price but you do end up walking a few blocks. Fortunately the night that we were there was on the cooler side and the delta breeze was cool and strong. We even had to get out the spare blanket! The rooms are surprisingly quiet and the bathroom is quite spacious however the windows don't open. I found the AC to be lacking in terms of temperature and strength so I ended up keeping the door open and using the fan which was provided. The coffee maker in the room tastes horrible but there are plenty of cafes and spots for breakfast within walking distance. You do get two complimentary drinks from the bar with vouchers upon check in - wine, beer, soft drink. The fun part was talking to the other hotel guests! So many people make this a tradition. When folks asked where I was from, I had to sheepishly reply "Sacramento." For dinner, I did DoorDash. They delivered to the lobby and we got a call from the front desk when it arrived. Sitting outside on the patio with a river view and seeing all the boaters was fantastic. Highly recommend!

I was recently on the Delta King with a large group from a conference and was there for the Murder Mystery event. It was my first time, and the experience was confusing at first but fun. (I wasn't sure what the expect) The actors really stayed in character and put on a great performance. I had small bites and hors d'oeuvres were served, and we had access to both the first floor of the boat and the outside dock area, which was a nice even the weather was beautiful that evening. The Delta King definitely has old charm, but could use a deep cleaning to freshen things up. With a lot of people on board, it did get stuffy. Overall, a fun and entertaining experience if you're interested in the Murder Mystery event!

The location is stellar. It's in the heart of Old Sac right on the river. There is a parking garage + lots nearby. Also, there is street parking available. The boat itself is rustic yet slightly renovated and modern. There is a large bar onboard with a restaurant. The deck outside is very nice and has tables to sit at. On a nice evening, the views cannot be beat. The sunset hitting the water is one of the most memorable experiences you will have. The food and drinks were pretty good. The complimentary bread was delicious. I have no input on the hotel rooms aboard but I heard some are haunted Bottom Line/TLDR: amazing experience.

I have really struggled to write this review. We stayed here last week for 2 nights in the Captains Quarters. For parking you can either park in one of the 2 parking garages (will have to walk a few blocks with your luggage) or valet park. Right in front of the hotel is the valet parking and Timothy was very friendly. It is $30 a night but you do have in and out privileges. Apple and her staff run the hotel and they are all very helpful and friendly. Check in was easy and quick. They have ice and some drinks for sale available at the front desk and someone is there 24/7. We were on the 5th floor and walked up the stairs, however they do have an elevator in the lobby. The Captains Suite is a larger room with a private balcony. Of course this is an older ship and although the other rooms have been updated, the captains suite has not, it remains as original as can be. The biggest issue is the shower. This is really an old fashioned bath tub converted to add a shower head, however to get in you have to step up and over the tub which is about 2 1/2 feet tall. This may not seem hard but in reality it was difficult. There is not much to hold on to so getting in and out was a struggle and very uncomfortable. Once inside, the shower head does not actually work, you have to use the hand held one which makes it hard to wash your hair with one hand. It is also very small and there is no place to put any bottles of shampoo or soap. Overall this was a very bad experience. In addition, the toilet is still the old fashioned pull handle from the ceiling mounted tank. It is very loud and does not flush with 1 pull, you have to flush twice. There are a lot of windows in the second story, where the ships wheel is) however they have no curtains, so the room never really gets dark and in the morning there is a lot of light coming in early. The bed was smaller than a queen and very uncomfortable. You can only see the TV from bed, not from the chairs in the sitting room. The room is also very slanted so you are either walking up or down hill to move about the room. There is a drip coffee pot but no microwave or fridge. Anyone from the street can walk around the ship as there is nothing preventing them from entering the area, like locked doors. We saw 4 people who walked on from the street and were sightseeing around the ship. They can come to your windows and doors. I did not really feel safe at night after seeing this. If there is anything happening on the main street (we had a marathon and a latin dance festival) it is very loud. In our case the marathon people started setting up at 5:30 in the morning on Saturday and the music from the dance festival went on until about 10 pm. It is nice to be able to stay so close and just walk around Old Town without having to drive or park if you are just there to hang out.

We LOVE this place. We have never been in Old Town Sacramento before and it was so Great! We had dinner and drinks on the Delta King Bar & Grill overlooking the American River...it is also a Hotel. It was great and Cora was a super nice server and we a gorgeous bar tender as well. There are seals in the river. I am always going to come here when I visit Sacramento! read more

We absolutely love staying here, it's a beautiful hotel and venue, we always have the most wonderful time enjoying our stay here! Karen from housekeeping is so lovely, her smile and positive attitude every time we are there enhances our stay and makes our days there extra special, she's fabulous and her attention to detail makes each occasion feel like a once in a lifetime visit. Nathan the bartender is awesome, he is so much fun and we look forward to seeing him everything we go, he makes us feel like family and he is so much fun to see when we go, we appreciate his great service and the fun vibe he provides. Santa Breakfast. oOur first time today with our 5-1/2 year old grandson. The Good: A great bartender. A really great and patient Santa. Nicely decorated tables. Cons: Buffet line stalled. Out of sausage, bacon, eggs and French toast. Not good. Food not coming out of the kitchen fast enough to meet the needs of the pre-sold venue (in other words, they knew how many guests would be there and should have staffed the kitchen accordingly). It took way too long to clear the tables after the food service. When asked the staff, we were told "We are still focusing on the food right now". Again, they knew how many guests would be there and should have staffed accordingly. Poor planning on the part of the Event Planner. Sorry, not sure I'd recommend this one. read more

Our company had our holiday lunch here and while I was glad to have tried this place, I wish we went somewhere else. It is definitely a boat. The ceilings are low, some of the doors are very small, and the room where we ate tilted to one side. I felt tensed up the entire lunch trying to hold my body upright. It had an old style restaurant ambiance that is sometimes great, but this place felt musty. The single person helping our gigantic party of 40 people did his best. He was polite and professional. We had 3 choices for our lunch and I chose the chicken. I was glad I did because the steak of some of my coworkers was way undercooked for my taste. The chicken was dry, but the flavor was fine. However, my portion was tiny so I left the lunch hungry. The tiramisu was good. The portion was lacking again though. I did not particularly like the ambiance or the food, but I still recommend trying this place for yourself. My coworkers talked about a murder mystery that they do too. read more

I had a fantastic large birthday lunch at the Delta King restaurant. The staff (Hanna) made me a custom menu with dishes we wanted and was great communicating. The server (Flo) was excellent. The ambiance was beautiful, with old world classiness - it's a historic ship! The music was pleasant and we all could hear ourselves talk! It's the only place in Old Town Sac that I found that was accessible for all abilities, quiet, and had a beautiful river view. I was treated so well that I will go back many times. My husband and I stayed at The Delta King on Saturday, July 27th. A lot about this stay and experience on The Delta King with their Murder Mystery Dinner. We liked our room (room 520). The room looked mostly clean, there was debris on the window sills and finger prints on the bathroom mirror. The room also had a really funky smell. What we were really unhappy with, is that there is no type of security to prevent people from the streets to come on board at all hours of the night. The doors to the area of the hotel rooms are open and unlocked. At 4am, people came on board, sat right outside our room and passed a bottle of alcohol between them. They were wrestling and bumping up against our room walls. They were not hotel guests and they were so loud, we couldn't go back to sleep. We were surprised that there aren't security measures (like key cards for guests to access the hotel area) to prevent this from happening. The Murder Mystery on the Delta King that night was chaotic! The event was overbooked and food safety was in question. Servers brough bread in a basket but no tongs and we were at a shared table with many strangers. bread was passed around while people reached in with hands. Also, salad came out and it was warm and wilted - but the dressing, which was a cream dressing, was sitting on the table when we were seated. That communal dressing boat was on the table in a warm room for over an hour before salad was served. The dinner did not get better. Chicken was completely overcooked. Dessert looked like a mess. And this was just the dinner. The event was in a room with little to no ventilation. Everyone was extremely hot! Guests were fanning themselves with table props and direction papers, anything they could find. One actor was soaked completely through his clothing and dripping sweat. Guests were expected to leave seats to participate, but there were so many people, it was almost impossible to move about. We couldn't wait to get out of that room, and we heard many guests saying the same thing. To attend the murder mystery event on the Delta King and to stay the night, this evening cost us about $600 which included valet, dinner tickets and the no host drinks. We would have hoped for a better experience. To be fair, we wrote management to give them our feedback and we got nothing in response and it's been more than two weeks. We hope this review helps people make an informative decision about staying on The Delta King or attending the Murder Mystery on board. read more

Worst lunch I have had in a while. Took over 10 minutes for the staff to acknowledge us then we both wanted the French dip and that was the only item they did not have so we chose something else I got the fish and chips fish was ok fries were cold and chewy and they forgot my ranch and never checked on us through the whole meal. From the outside it doesn't look like a restaurant, but don't be fooled! This old boat features historic sights and a simple but delicious menu. The food wasn't anything unique or out of the ordinary, but it was well plated, tasted good, and filled us up. We went for brunch and enjoyed eggs Benedict, the omelette, and Kobe burger. Everything was cooked well and tasted great. I didn't have very high expectations for the coffee, but was pleasantly surprised! The latte was bold and creamy. I would go back just for the coffee. Downstairs is a cool little area with old relics and model ships to check out. Fun place to take the kids if they're getting bored and hangry. Bathrooms were very clean and well maintained. You can also pop out onto the deck for some fresh air and to look out over the water. Great place for dining out in old town Sacramento! read more

A definite if you are trying to avoid the dregs of homeless of what was was a decent midtown Sacramento. You have all of old Sacramento within walking distance. The only con I will throw out there is Valet parking is $34, and if you have a large vehicle, you are SOL, they tell you they can't park it.,which I found interesting, because later in the day I saw them park a Tahoe in a spot my truck would have easily fit in - I suspect the valet could not drive my truck. This technically could cause an ADA issue IMO. Now, the Hotel..super easy check in, took us 2 hrs early..super polite and fun to talk to. Warning for the tall, you are on an actual riverboat built in the early 1900's.. you will wack your head if not alert. They have tried, and have done a decent job of keeping the rooms original. They are small and cramped, but I don't normally spend much time in a room when traveling other then to sleep and shower. The experience and thought of having this room for traveling from San Francisco to Sacramento for $1.50 was interesting. I have stayed in the best hotels Sacramento has to offer, this by far was the most comfortable and convenient to me. read more

Wow! The service here was just amazing! If I could give this place more than 5 stars,I would. Delta king you hold the crown for great service. This place treated us so well. They customized dishes for us vegans that weren't even on the menu to make us feel comfortable and well fed. They created a veggie pasta with impossible meat crumbles...DELICIOUS!!! The ambience was something like out of a movie...sitting on the Sacramento River in relaxation mode. The waitress brought us complementary desserts for our table for my father being a Vietnam Vet, that was awesome of her. To mention we had the whole place to ourselves on a Wednesday afternoon...this was a great experience. To all my vegans they will take care of you. They made two happy vegans...One of the best boats I have been on...ROCK THAT BOAT!!! We will definitely be returning to this ship am no overboard baby!!! read more

My husband and I stayed the night here for our wedding anniversary, and I wish we could have stayed longer. First off, I was a little worried I would get sick, as I have TERRIBLE motion sickness. I was absolutely fine, the boat was docked well and there was little to no movement. Second, the room was cozy and clean. We had a beautiful view of the water. It's also convenient being steps away from Old Town Sac, and only about a 12 min walk to Golden 1 Center. Being on the water, it was very quiet at night since it's away from all the "hustle and bustle". And lastly, the staff were all friendly, welcoming, and helpful. We will definitely be staying here again next time we travel through, and if you're reading this, I hope you give it a chance. read more

I've been sitting here for almost 2 hours. The waitresses never acknowledged me. The bartender was extremely stressed with minimal people in the bar. I had to go to the bar to order my drinks as neither of the waitresses addressed me. I was really looking forward to coming here for a steak dinner and drinks. Not even a glass of water was offered. I have watched them serve everyone around me. It was completely insulting and even after going to the bar and letting the bartender know that I was not being acknowledged he persumed to help others before coming back to make my drink. When he did, he was extremely flustered and seemed aggravated he spilt my drink all over the bar and gave me a glass that was drenched in alcohol. I am literally leaving after this drink as no one offered even a menu. I will find somewhere else to get my steak. I really needed this night to enjoy myself as I do not ever go out. I am a chef and usually cook for myself. This was suppose to be a treat. I am really disappointed with the lack of service from the delta king staff. I've stayed here countless times before moving to Sacramento. So sad. read more

I have never slept so well at a hotel! And, The room was IMMACULATE. The nighttime front desk clerk, James, was so warm and inviting, as was the previous person who helped me on the phone whose name escapes me (I hope this review finds you!) My company and I had the pleasure of hosting an event here recently. I cannot stress enough how happy I am with the entire experience. Working with Rachel to set up the event was a dream. She was so knowledgeable and friendly and went above and beyond to help me get our event dialed in. The food was incredible - fresh and delicious. The staff we had working our event (as well as others we encountered along the way) were wonderful. They accommodated any requests we might have had and had great personalities/attitudes. The room/tables were set up beautifully. I had been very stressed out planning our company's event and everyone at the Delta King made that fade away. I've gotten nothing but positive feedback from my team and I owe a lot of that to the Delta King. I can't wait to go back for dinner on my own and explore the boat some more! read more

We stayed two nights on this unique, infamous, historical and refurbished paddlewheel boat. The staff was awesome. For instance, " Eric, you can't spell America without Eric" is an excellant bartender. Very organized, funny and personable (loved him). Aaron, also a great bartender, he kept the place popping and served great drinks and food. Rochelle and Tracy, are servers, ensured we were well taken care of, very sweet and our dining experience was great. The meals are soooo good. Went to the murder mystery dinner on the Delta king for my wife's birthday, what a disappointment! The steak was so overcooked it was like a piece of charcoal and her chicken was tough as leather, the wait staff forgot about one of the people at our table and he didn't get his dinner or drinks until everyone else was done. WOW I am changing my review of the Delta King. My wife and I went to the murder dinner for our anniversary and had a bad experience. I posted a review regarding it and received a message from Sara Smyth. She apologized and wanted to make things right and she did. We look forward to checking out another murder show on the Delta King one day and wanted to edit my post about them. Terrible experience! Had a reservation before our polar express train ride. After 20 minutes with no drinks or bread, I flagged someone down (not our waitress). She apologized, grabbed our drinks and brought us bread. I asked her if a little over a hour was enough time to order, get our food and make it to the polar express train ride. She assured me it was fine. She flagged down our waitress, who finally took our order. After waiting 1/2 hour, our waitress came to our table and said she was ready to take our order. We informed her that she already did... a1/2 hour ago!! With a panicked look, she ran off to the kitchen. (I suspect she never placed our order.). After 45 minutes, we were told our food was in the back and would be out in a couple minutes. After 10 more minutes, we had to cancel our order and leave hungry. Absolutely unacceptable! read more

Came here to celebrate my grandads 86 birthday and it was a real good experience, they service was good, the vibe, and the views were amazing, eating good food on a boat was such a good mood to be in, the drinks were good though they were a little pricey I can understand why, the dinner was buffet style with options of: salad (so good) salmon, chicken, rolls, broccolini, mash potatoes, and there served desert, they also had appetizers and everything was good, especially the lumpia, the only downside to today was that they only had 1 tray of 4 appetizers and once the tray was gone that was it, there was no seconds, so lots of people didn't get to try certain things, so I didn't get to get the deviled eggs but they looked really good, that's the only reason why I can't give this place 5 stars, the customer service was outstanding, they made sure we all had water when we needed, took our plates when we were done and there was a real large group of us like at least 60, I didn't know this boat had a bar, restaurant, and food place on it so me and my wife are going to have to come back. read more

One of the 3 top worst hotels I've stayed at. This place is like a "motel." I understand it's very old but the rooms are tiny. No ACs in the room so the ship has its own ventilation system. We were dying hot all night, then I started smelling cigarette smoke. The worst was the bed. Felt like a $100 spring mattress. My body was so sore after 1 night there. Then the loud trains and seals all night. I didn't sleep at night with everything combined. What a waste of money. read more

One of Sacramento's most notable locations the...Delta King! The views on the water are unbeatable and there's no better place to get a drink and some food! The drinks get a 5/5, but the food isn't anything exciting. It's worth the views and eating on a boat, but if it wasn't for the views I might eat somewhere else and definitely come for drinks! read more

The boat itself is really charming, we enjoyed sitting on the outside patio for a late lunch. The management seemed a little unorganized, and our server was hustling taking care of the entire patio alone. We ordered the calamari which was amazing, but our entrees were not the best, definitely overpriced for the quality of it. read more

I was charged three times for one room due to an online booking error and the hotel refused to reverse any charges. My complaint was even accepted as valid by the BBB but the hotel refused to even contact me and resolve the issue. I refuse to do business with a company that is ok with essentially robbing their guests. read more

I decided to make the grave decision of dining at the Delta King on Christmas. At the time of making my reservation, I had no inkling this would be a huge mistake. I arrive with my party of 3 at 7 mins early. We approach the host stand, smiles on our faces, explaining our presence: "Hello, Merry Christmas, we have a reservation!" The hostess matches our polite manner with half-hazard spite, etching my name down on a paper waitlist, explaining that we will have to wait for at least twenty minutes. Pause. A 20 min wait? I expressed my perplexity: "So even though we reserved a table, we have to wait 20 minutes?" "We are fully booked, I can't just kick a table out, it's Christmas." I accept this, taking a seat in the lounge area not far from the hostess stand. Next thing, the host is talking sh*t about me, not six feet from where I am currently sat, to her coworker. She mocks our conversation, insulting my party for arriving seven minutes early and expecting our reservation to be reserved, and telling her coworker "I can't magically make a table open up... I'm not SANTA CLAUS! She laughs as frustration, anger, and embarrassment grow inside my feeble mindset. My party waited patiently for about 15-20 minutes before we were finally sat by the host, who I assume felt embarrassed after we made eye contact right after she made fun of me. We accepted her attempt at redemption. She brought us room-temperature tap water and menus. Over the course of 20 minutes, we were told our server would "be there shortly." Finally, our server, the ONLY redeeming factor of the night, arrived at our table to take our drink and appetizer order, offering to get an appetizer for us on the house. Redemption. That was on my mind. Maybe a free appetizer could make up for everything that had already transpired. My party and I enjoyed our drinks and appetizer while contemplating what to order, simultaneously wondering what the special was due to our lack of a seasonal menu or explanation of the special. A while later, after asking for bread and witnessing the table next to us receive their main course before any of their appetizers, we placed our orders. Our food arrived after some time. The risotto on the salmon dish was room temperature. The flatbread was cold. The Caesar salad was not dressed. You get the picture by now. The Grinch stole Christmas. We managed to eat what we could, accepting our fate. A second round of drinks was ordered as a coping mechanism. Halfway through our dishes we put our forks down, took our hands off the table, and sat there, looking around the dining area with glossy eyes, searching for a single employee to address us. What could help us? We racked our brains, stomachs still hungry. Sugar? Yes, sugar. It had been two hours since we were sat. Maybe, just maybe, dessert would save us. We finally reunited with w our server and ordered dessert. Minutes later, the manager stormed across the dining room, chanting cold demands. She informed us and the remaining table that it was the last call and that we had ten minutes to get out. A flashback to the hostess overtook my mind. "I can't just kick a table out, it's Christmas." Well, I'll be damned. Here we were, on Christmas, getting kicked out. No one in the dining room had received a check, our dessert, nor had our tables been bussed. Our server brings our mango sorbet, the best-tasting item I have consumed all night. A minute later, our check is dropped on the table. Not only is the appetizer that was rumored to be "on the house" stated on the check, in bold black lettering, but so is a "Christmas service charge" of 22%. Not only was this "Christmas service charge" undisclosed when we made our reservation, but the "Christmas service" we received included a 20-minute wait on our 7:30 pm reservation, the hostess mocking and making fun of my party in front of our faces, a 20-minute wait to be served cold food, getting booted from the premises before receiving dessert or a check, and the check itself containing items agreed to be taken care of and a 22% surcharge for no apparent reason. We relate our grievances to our server, who takes care of everything promptly and sweetly, like the Christmas miracle she is. My party exits the Delta King along with the large party that was also formally kicked out, laughing in disbelief of the way we were treated. And with that, my dining experience at the Delta King came to a close, along with my Christmas, and 2024. If you made it this far, I hope you learned one valuable lesson for 2025 and possibly a new idea for your New Year's resolutions. Do not dine at the Delta King. I know your family might frustrate you, but at least if you make your food at home it will be hot. read more

This is a beautiful paddle boat on the Sacramento River in Old Sacramento. We've been here before but this review is for the Thanksgiving dinner 2024. We knew the cost per person was $68 fir the buffet style dinner. Our reservations were for noon, we arrived at 11:45 and checked in. The host said we are first and they will call our names in a few minutes. 40 minutes later, and 15 other groups went in first, she finally called our name. We were seated 45 minutes after our reservations and we were there first! THAT is terrible service. We were seated and it took 15 minutes for our waiter to arrive to take our drink orders. We finally were able to start eating at 1:10pm, which is more than an hour past our reservation time,which we were in the first seating. The buffet foil was not good. It was cold, and tasteless. The prime rib must have been the worse beef on earth, it have no seasoning and no flavor. The desserts sat out so long that they were dried out. our waiter, Max, was terrible. He was slow and only checked on us once. My iced tea ran out so I had to go get my own. When he brought our bills, they were wrong. He tried to charge us $50 for a "Banquet fee" that's wasn't shown on the invitation. We asked what this was, he said, ooops that's a mistake. There were 3 families in our group that he did this too. If we didn't look c closely at the bill, they would have made an extra $150. We had 1 young 6 year old that was with us, she didn't eat but they charged us $25 for her to sit there. WTF?? On top of this they automatically added 20% tip. The receipt had another line that asked if we wanted to leave and added tip...I wrote "hech no" on that line. Our bill for 4 adults, with only 2 cocktails was $452. I highly recommend DO NOT GO HERE!! The food was terrible, the seating service was awful, the waiter Max needs training. Overall I am very very disappointed in this entire ordeal. read more

The best part about this place is the ambiance and the bar. Bartender was excellent.l and gave us great service. They had a guy singing songs and invited my little one up to sing Christmas songs with him, And she loved it! Food was also excellent. The reason for only 3 stars, was the bed and pillows. Absolutely horrible! Also the sea lions barking ALL freaking night. Never shut up till 5am. You guys got to do something about that. You know nobody is sleeping on that boat ever! read more

We stayed at the Delta King hotel on 1 Dec 2025 as a first stop on a 4-day planned trip. The room was tiny, but charming, with the authentic details of an old boat preserved. The low rating given is due to the unreasonable noise from their "adopted" sea lions. We paid for a room on the river side of the boat. We were told (after we had already checked in) that the sea lions made some noise sometimes and there were some earplugs in the room if needed. We knew nothing about the sea lions until we were already checked in. In retrospect, the check-in clerk severely down-played the noise factor. In reality, it was like having ten St Bernard dogs outside our window, barking without ceasing all night long. That is no exaggeration. The earplugs supplied were ineffective for the level of noise the sea lions made. We got practically no sleep that night, which impacted the rest of our trip in a negative way. Had we known in advance, we would have had the opportunity to change our plans. We feel the hotel should have notified us of this fact before we arrived or at least offered us a room on the other side of the boat, where the noise may not have been as bad. We are writing this review so other people have the information to make a more informed decision about staying there that we did not have. It is only fair to be honest about factors that could make or break a stay at any hotel. We don't feel the hotel was fair to us in that way. The experience was definitely not worth the price. read more

Came here for NYE 2019 party and dinner. The entertainment consisted of live music in the bar. A DJ and casino n the main floor and of course the best view in town for Old Sacramento's Fire works display. Our dinner was surprisingly good. My filet was delicious but my date did not care for her Striped Bass as all the seasoning was in the skin which she didn't want to eat. The flourless chocolate cake was so good I could have licked the plate LoL. Service was good although our server was not very personable. He did pause our four course meal while we watched the fireworks do kudos to him. Overall we really enjoyed our event here and at $145 pp it was reasonably priced. read more

We much enjoyed staying in this unique and memorable floating hotel/restaurant. How often does one get to sleep aboard an authentic steamboat? The bed was quite comfortable, and the staff went the extra mile for us. We ate in the restaurant for both dinner and breakfast, and enjoyed the food and the river view very much. We were able to park right away, and check-in was an absolute breeze thanks to a super friendly and helpful team. We were up and in our room within minutes, and walking in to find the AC already blowing cold air instantly won me over. The bed was comfortable, we had zero issues sleeping, and the location made it effortless to get around and do everything we came to Sacramento for. Having a great bar, lounge, and full-service restaurant right on site took care of all our needs, including breakfast to start the day off right. Parking: valet only, $40. I found an uncovered parking lot on 28th that was $10 for overnight. The valet attendant is directly in front of the hotel. Breakfast: M-F 6:30A-9A, S-S 7A-10A on 3rd floor. Offered typical hotel breakfast with scrambled eggs, sausage, toast, cereal, and hot coffee. They also had oatmeal and some fruits. That made my stay truly luscious and fulfilling my daughter's aspirations for me!!. They have a coffee time in the morning at the lobby where we can choose from tea, hot coffee or iced coffee. Then we got to enjoy the social hour for drinks from 5 pm to 6 pm. They offered various wines, beers, liqueurs, non-alcoholic drinks, and appetizers. I particularly liked the cocktail, Silver Spoon cocktails, offered on day 1. It's very smooth and mellow especially when pairing with Korean spicy chicken wings which were the perfect appetizer. We really enjoyed the time at the cozy lobby. It's a nice way to cool down. They have a cocktails making class (Mixology) at the Revival (hotel bar/restaurant) for registered guests and the class is offered daily at 4 pm, same Cocomo drink every day. We ate our meals mostly at the Revival and room services from the Revival too. I will do a separate review about the restaurant. I loved their gym. Quite spacious with quite a few equipment. I was there exercising alone so I tried most of the equipment. They have a big beautiful pool that's absolutely inviting. They also have several cabanas for groups rental. But it's just too hot to be outside. So I spent most of my time in my hot soaking tub! . I also went shopping and watched a movie. Shenna was very pleasant when she helped me to check out of the hotel. I had a great stay.

PLEASE update repairs so we have accurate info when booking! I opted for a hot bath (dirty tub, I had to clean. See photos) There was also long hairs on the soap & shampoo bottles. I always travel with clorox wipes BUT why do we have to spend so much money and still have to sanitize a room? I still leave a cash tip daily because im sure they work hard & are most likely low wages. It's the right thing to do. Lastly the decor in the room was off. The hotel has 3 handicap stalls for the entire hotel and Scott's restaurant combined. So the first night I was told valet was my only option since it was full. I was willing to look past this but then we moved our car the next morning and didn't use valet again for over 24 hours. But we still got charged the $52 for valet for every night we stayed there. After speaking with the desk they removed the middle day since we didn't utilize valet at all. Then someone who works at a different location mentioned we shouldn't have to pay for valet if we have a handicap vehicle because we would park in a handicap stall yet none were available. I mentioned this to the front desk and Analeigh (not sure the spelling) just looked annoyed and said she credited one night of valet. But upon checkout we still had 2 nights charged of valet. I told her the middle night (of 3 nights) should have been credited anyways since we didn't utilize valet that night (or day). So she didn't really do us any favors for the situation. She acted extremely dense and rude. When she finally agreed to credit one night of valet she was visibly annoyed and smacked the bill printout on the desk and proceeded to do something else. I am sure the Westin has cameras and can clearly see I never once raised my voice or was rude to her at all. Yet she didn't even ask "how was your stay" upon checkout before we even had the interaction. It's like she knew the hotel was lacking and didn't want to even ask. Not to mention zero compassion and zero customer service. In addition, the linens were worn down and towels were threadbare during our stay. There were actual holes in our pillowcases and threads coming apart on the comforter and blanket. The area under the sink was super dusty and there was someone else's hair down there with the towels we were supposed to use. There was also hair under the tub. Gross. To top it off, one of two elevators were broken our entire stay. Another random guest said he was there all week and the elevator had been broken causing long waits for everyone trying to use one elevator. He said the Westin charges so much and yet they have zero care for their guests. After our experiences I am on the same page as him. Hopefully the upper management can take these things into consideration and take a moment to have reasonable parking policies and increase the number of handicap stalls. Our child is in a wheelchair and cannot stand or do anything on his own and we were treated like an annoyance. Also, please make sure the rooms are clean and replace sheets that have holes and towels that should be used for rags. For the cost per night of the hotel it's really not acceptable.

This was not told to us at check-in nor did we see anywhere, but it was posted that you had to call and ask for rooms to be clean. We were a family of five staying in one room and requested an extra blanket, which they did not have any and gave us top of the comforter, which was weird. They also had no towels down at the pool area as well as ran out of bathroom towels. The beds were very uncomfortable, definitely would not book here again

Some of the other reviews I've read make me wonder if we were on the same boat! C'mon people, complaining that it's old, or low ceilings, having to lift your feet up over risers? You should have done your research and/or have never been on any type of a boat or cruise ship! The fact that it's old is part of the CHARM! I just wish there had been more pictures of the reconstruction / refurbishment throughout the boat, because they certainly had alot of work to do from the condition it was in when they bought it! There were 7 of us celebrating 3 guys' birthdays; we had people / travel plans worked out like a military operation! We're from the Bay area; bro in law driving from Vegas to my sister in law's house, overnighting in Reno; 2 cousins who live in Reno, and another cousin who drove from Tacoma, WA to Reno. Amazingly enough, we pulled up and the 3 from Reno were just getting out of the car. They were opting for the valet parking @ $22 a day, and the 2 guys helped them with their bags, cooler, etc., so while they are not normally "valet type of people", they thought this was a good value. Some of our rooms were ready, some not - Michael @ the Front Desk was checking us in, and he was a fantastic first impression of the boat. We were on the top deck and our room was slightly larger than the others; my sis in law declared it Party Headquarters. :) We all got checked in and then wandered around the very pleasant downtown area. Back to our room, we pulled a couple of chairs over and people brought out snacks, crackers & cheese, wine & beer. Prior to this tho, my brother in law caught his foot on the top step on the deck and went down HARD (he's no skinny guy either). I don't even know WHERE the staff member came from but she was on it, and checking to see if he was ok. This fall was totally on him - there are signs posted as to the uneven deck, slanting, slippery when wet, etc. Ditto my sis in law, who tripped over the riser into our cabin at least 4 times! Just not used to being on a boat! The other 2 cousins met us for dinner and everyone loved their dinner - that's pretty rare - out of 7 people usually someone won't like something! Our server was Alice and she was awesome! I'd brought a cake with me and she happily provided plates, a glass of hot water and a large knife to cut the cake with. The next morning we had the breakfast which is included in the room rate, and it was enjoyed by everyone (and more good service) as well. read more

This review reflects my experience dining at Delta King Pilothouse Restaurant during the Dine Downtown event in 2023. While the visit was pleasant overall, it ultimately did not leave a strong enough impression for me to return, even though they participate in the Dine Downtown event every year. The food was prepared well and enjoyable enough for a single visit, but it lacked the distinct flavors or creativity that would justify a repeat dining experience--particularly when factoring in the challenges of parking in downtown Sacramento. Nothing we ordered stood out as memorable, and the menu offerings did not leave a lasting impression. The ambiance is undoubtedly one of the restaurant's strongest aspects. Dining aboard a riverboat offers a unique and charming setting, and it adds to the overall experience. However, once that novelty has been experienced, there is little incentive to return unless the food itself warrants it. Service, however, was excellent. Our server was friendly, attentive, and contributed positively to the dining experience. Making a reservation was straightforward, and although there was a short wait upon arrival, it was reasonable and well managed. In summary, Delta King Pilothouse Restaurant is suitable for a one-time visit, particularly for the atmosphere and service, but it is not a destination I would recommend based on the food alone. I love the Delta King. I have been staying on board weekly for a few years because I have to work in Sacramento two days a week. It's true, the staff is very friendly and personal, I know their names, they know mine. They know where I like may car parked, how I like my bedspread turned down, and how I like my steak and martinis. I'm not the only one. Over the years, various "regulars" like myself have met each other and it's terrific to have a small community like this when I'm away from home so much. The food is excellent, and I'm always comfortable inviting guests to join me for appetizers and cocktails in the lounge, or dinner in the restaurant. I hear the theatre is really good, although I haven't made it to a show. I have been to the wine classes though, and have joined several wine dinners. Those are exceptional. Pooch, the wine school teacher is a kick. I also like the Restaurant manager. He's french, with a great accent, and loves his wines and wine list. He's always recommending a wine for me to try with my dinner. Charlie and Mike Coyne are owner managers, and it's always pleasant and amusing to run into them on the boat. I highly recommend the Hotel, the Lounge and the Restaurant. read more

Attending the murder mystery dinner on the Delta King was an absolute blast! The actors were engaging, the storyline was intriguing, and the overall atmosphere was lively and entertaining. From the moment we stepped aboard, we were transported into a world of suspense and mystery, making for an unforgettable evening. However, while the show was top-notch, the culinary aspect left something to be desired. The chicken served was unfortunately undercooked, which was disappointing considering the price of the ticket. Additionally, the "salad" provided was little more than a handful of lettuce leaves, lacking the variety and flavor one would expect from a proper salad. Despite these culinary shortcomings, the murder mystery experience itself was so enjoyable that it almost made up for it. With a bit of improvement in the food department, this event could easily earn a perfect score. I had my wedding at the Delta King in June 2010. I could not have been happier. Everything turned out perfect. Everyone at the Delta King was more than happy to work with me and my husband and provide exactly what we wanted. All of our guests told us how nice they thought the wedding was, how great the food was, and how much fun it was to stay on the Delta King. I am so glad we decided to have our wedding at the Delta King. I do not think I would have been as happy anywhere else. I strongly recommend the Delta King for weddings and other parties or for just a fun weekend away from home. The Delta King provides so much in their wedding packages. I recently had my wedding on the Delta King and it was perfect. We were married by the boat captain, Captain Heffelfinger. He worked with us on making our ceremony as quick & simple as possible. The ceremony was followed by a reception in the Paddle Room. there was plenty of space for all of our guests. The servers were on it and the food was great too. One of the perks of a wedding here is that you can bring in outside vendors. I was NOT required to use their cake decorator or their preferred photographer. They cut the cake with no fee per slice. They just did it! And we brought in our own wine (corkage fee applies) We stayed on the boat for the night and though the rooms are small, I think they are perfect. I am always looking for a great place to have Sunday brunch with my girlfriends. We usually head somewhere in midtown but figured we would be a little bit more adventurous and head towards the river this weekend. I had never been aboard the Delta King before and was a little apprehensive at first (I tend to get a little motion sickness to say the least). I have to say even if I had felt a little topsy turvy it would have been worth it. The brunch was fabulous and it was such a novelty to eat outside on the deck of a such a huge riverboat overlooking the Delta. Our server was awesome, funny and had that right balance between professional and casual that you are looking for on a Sunday afternoon. I stayed on board the Delta King for two nights last week. It could not have been more fun! The rooms have been beautifully redecorated. The service was super friendly. And the restaurant was fabulous. One night at dinner, my boyfriend and I had a fantastic domestic "local" rack of lamb. They swore us to secrecy about where they got it. The next night we were enjoyed a bottle of wine suggested by the restaurant manager, a charming frenchman who really knows his stuff. The Delta King's restaurant, called the Pilothouse, is really the only place to eat in Old Sacramento. Some other places are okay but they don't compare to the Delta King. I have been a guest 3 times in last couple of years. First time writing a review. You can't get a better view of the river since u are on it! Its very scenic and sure is nice to be able to sit outside on their veranda (as they call it and it truly is one) and relax with a nice cool breeze. The staterooms are very comfortable and the wireless Internet works great. The boat is well kept up for sure. The food and service in their restaurant is some of the best I have experienced. Very knowledgeable wait staff....interesting delightful flavors in the food...and an extensive well done wine list. This is a must return for me and hope you enjoy as much as I did read more

We made Easter Sunday reservations for a $68 per person buffet, but when we arrived for our 2:20 reservation, there was no buffet available, and the restaurant was nearly empty. Instead, we were seated and had to order from the regular menu. The cleanliness was concerning--the mirror behind our table was visibly dirty, covered in sticky handprints and mouth marks. Unfortunately, the experience did not improve from there. The food was disappointing overall, and the deviled eggs looked as though they had been sitting out for days. I just engaged a few months ago and although my wedding is not until 2010 I could not help but start planning right away. I looked at several venues but when my fiancee and I took a tour of the Delta King we knew we had found the perfect place to get married. The boat is so different than any other venue in the valley, so beautiful, and so romantic that I signed my contract that very day. My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary and we had a great time. The boat is really cool, the room was clean and kept up nicely. We stayed on the water view side and although there were party boats blasting music as they drove by at midnight etc we didn't mind and kind of felt like we were on a real cruise. The location is great to, easy to get to, lots of parking, they can valet your car or there is a parking garage at the end of the street. There is a TON of shops are restaurants that you can walk around and check out, also some good dessert/ice cream places. We had a great time! read more

The Delta King is a beautiful old riverboat that has been through some tough times since its maiden voyage in 1927. It's been very nicely restored and turned into a permanently moored hotel, restaurant, banquet facility. I've stayed in the hotel several times, most recently this month, and have always enjoyed the staff, the comfort and the ambience. The restaurant is fabulous. The food is great and the service is friendly and professional. If you haven't been to the Delta King, you should really try it. I would bet you would love it. We sure do. read more

Wow! So i just moved up here from Tahoe City and have been searching for a restaurant with some scenic outdoor dining. My brother recommended a few places that had patios in the downtown area and while they were all very nice absolutely nothing compares to the view you have from the patio of the Delta King. My wife and myself went there for lunch a few days ago and neither one of us has been able to sop talking about it since. I love the venue and we a had dinner before. This is down in the hull of a boat, but suspect they think bodies warm the place up, they do but not enough. It is great you can bring in a glass of wine, the theater is intimate. We stayed in the Happiness Loft, which was cute and unique. The pictures do note that it's not ideal for tall guests, and that's true -- the ceilings are quite low, but it worked fine for us. The highlight of our stay was definitely the spa. I had one of the best massages of my life, and the couples massage experience was wonderful. That said, it was on the pricey side, as was the room rate, though the charm of the property sets it apart from many other Sacramento options we looked at. Breakfast was good, but at $30 per person, it didn't feel like the best value compared to other places we've stayed. The biggest downside for us was the location -- while the hotel itself is lovely, the surrounding neighborhood didn't feel like a place where we could walk around and explore, so we found ourselves driving elsewhere for dinner and activities. Parking was also limited. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and are glad we experienced it. The service, cleanliness, and spa treatments are excellent, but for the price point, I'd likely explore other options next time. For us, this felt like a solid three-star experience.

We could not find nearby parking when we arrived, so we pulled up front for the hotels' valet service. They asked us if we were checking in and for our name and then acted like they maybe verified the reservation. We did not realize until we were ready to leave and asking for our vehicle to be brought to us, that the valet is just some random company, totally unrelated to the hotel, so if you are hoping to charge the parking to your room, you cannot. The valet also charges a convenience fee, in addition to their regular fee to park your car across the street for you at double to lot rate and then won't take cash, except for their tip that is. Using this company is a big mistake on the part of the hotel. We also travel with our dog and the fee here is high at $75 a night. We understand this is something we will encounter but when we asked the front desk staff where the nearest pet relief are was, he literally said, and I quote "uh... Just wherever". Many hotels offer dog bowls and beds or bags but nothing was offered here, not even information. When we got up to the room there was a lot of damage to the walls and things like heavy dust on the vanity and missing photos on the walls. It was odd. I also noticed there were no robes and I had forgotten to pack an extra pair of sleep shorts for my husband so I knew he would want one. We don't always use them, but the hotel should provide them. I asked him to call down and ask for one while I went to look for the ice machine, but what I found was a sign that said there was no ice machine on my floor. Ugh. When I returned to the room, my husband said he called down to the front desk and was told "I don't think we have any." They said they would check and get back to us and, spoiler alert, they had no robes. Probably the worst part still was the incredibly uncomfortable beds. Many reviews have talked about them but they look and feel like mattress pads on a box. They are lumpy and it was impossible to get comfortable. We barely slept and both had sore backs in the morning. Speaking of the morning, this is one of few hotels that doesn't offer any kind of breakfast either. It feels terrible to be writing a review and really have to search to find one thing, anything good about an experience but I can say that at least you are withing walking distance to things to do downtown. Otherwise, there is just nothing redeeming about this location. It feels lazy and undermanaged and we will definitely not be staying here again.

My husband noticed in the hotel in the morning that he had been charged and I had been charged for the same parking space. I wonder if we got double-decker cars. Been laughing late I said oh on top of that will probably get a ticket, which we did to the tune of $65. The other thing I want to add about the parking lot is to get upstairs. You have to go up a stairway that is covered with bird feathers, poop, trash, and etc. When we left, I asked if there was a cleaner stairway to go down in the young woman, the desk nicely let us out a different door. But there is no elevator from the garage to the hotel, so we had to carry our luggage a couple flights of stairs. The room was small, but clean, other than they have not cleaned under the coffee pot. I could only get the coffee pot to make one cup of coffee so we shared the one! I thought that the breakfast was going to be part of the room as Marriott usually offered that; but for a not particularly wonderful buffet, we were charged $23 apiece. Our room would've been OK if we weren't right next to the elevator, and I would prefer not to hear people in the floor above. Everyone was nice enough, but it did take a while to check in! The best part of the hotel is, it's location, but everything else is a little downhill

Our stay here this past weekend was absolutely wonderful. From the moment we arrived, the staff…read moremade us feel genuinely welcome and went above and beyond to ensure we had a fantastic experience. This was a very hot weekend in Sacramento and initially our room was very warm, but Rashid was amazing at getting our room cooled down and got us a fan to help us get great sleep at night. The food and drinks at Willows were amazing as well and we highly recommend the lemon ricotta pancake. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will definitely stay here again. Highly recommend!
