From the outside it doesn't look like a restaurant, but don't be fooled! This old boat features historic sights and a simple but delicious menu. The food wasn't anything unique or out of the ordinary, but it was well plated, tasted good, and filled us up. We went for brunch and enjoyed eggs Benedict, the omelette, and Kobe burger. Everything was cooked well and tasted great. I didn't have very high expectations for the coffee, but was pleasantly surprised! The latte was bold and creamy. I would go back just for the coffee. Downstairs is a cool little area with old relics and model ships to check out. Fun place to take the kids if they're getting bored and hangry. Bathrooms were very clean and well maintained. A definite if you are trying to avoid the dregs of homeless of what was was a decent midtown Sacramento. You have all of old Sacramento within walking distance. The only con I will throw out there is Valet parking is $34, and if you have a large vehicle, you are SOL, they tell you they can't park it.,which I found interesting, because later in the day I saw them park a Tahoe in a spot my truck would have easily fit in - I suspect the valet could not drive my truck. This technically could cause an ADA issue IMO. Now, the Hotel..super easy check in, took us 2 hrs early..super polite and fun to talk to. Warning for the tall, you are on an actual riverboat built in the early 1900's.. you will wack your head if not alert. They have tried, and have done a decent job of keeping the rooms original. They are small and cramped, but I don't normally spend much time in a room when traveling other then to sleep and shower. The experience and thought of having this room for traveling from San Francisco to Sacramento for $1.50 was interesting. My husband and I stayed the night here for our wedding anniversary, and I wish we could have stayed longer. First off, I was a little worried I would get sick, as I have TERRIBLE motion sickness. I was absolutely fine, the boat was docked well and there was little to no movement. Second, the room was cozy and clean. We had a beautiful view of the water. It's also convenient being steps away from Old Town Sac, and only about a 12 min walk to Golden 1 Center. Being on the water, it was very quiet at night since it's away from all the "hustle and bustle". And lastly, the staff were all friendly, welcoming, and helpful. We will definitely be staying here again next time we travel through, and if you're reading this, I hope you give it a chance. read more

Wow! The service here was just amazing! If I could give this place more than 5 stars,I would. Delta king you hold the crown for great service. This place treated us so well. They customized dishes for us vegans that weren't even on the menu to make us feel comfortable and well fed. They created a veggie pasta with impossible meat crumbles...DELICIOUS!!! The ambience was something like out of a movie...sitting on the Sacramento River in relaxation mode. The waitress brought us complementary desserts for our table for my father being a Vietnam Vet, that was awesome of her. To mention we had the whole place to ourselves on a Wednesday afternoon...this was a great experience. To all my vegans they will take care of you. I've been sitting here for almost 2 hours. The waitresses never acknowledged me. The bartender was extremely stressed with minimal people in the bar. I had to go to the bar to order my drinks as neither of the waitresses addressed me. I was really looking forward to coming here for a steak dinner and drinks. Not even a glass of water was offered. I have watched them serve everyone around me. It was completely insulting and even after going to the bar and letting the bartender know that I was not being acknowledged he persumed to help others before coming back to make my drink. When he did, he was extremely flustered and seemed aggravated he spilt my drink all over the bar and gave me a glass that was drenched in alcohol. I am literally leaving after this drink as no one offered even a menu. I will find somewhere else to get my steak. I really needed this night to enjoy myself as I do not ever go out. I am a chef and usually cook for myself. This was suppose to be a treat. I am really disappointed with the lack of service from the delta king staff. My company and I had the pleasure of hosting an event here recently. I cannot stress enough how happy I am with the entire experience. Working with Rachel to set up the event was a dream. She was so knowledgeable and friendly and went above and beyond to help me get our event dialed in. The food was incredible - fresh and delicious. The staff we had working our event (as well as others we encountered along the way) were wonderful. They accommodated any requests we might have had and had great personalities/attitudes. The room/tables were set up beautifully. I had been very stressed out planning our company's event and everyone at the Delta King made that fade away. We stayed two nights on this unique, infamous, historical and refurbished paddlewheel boat. The staff was awesome. For instance, " Eric, you can't spell America without Eric" is an excellant bartender. Very organized, funny and personable (loved him). Aaron, also a great bartender, he kept the place popping and served great drinks and food. Rochelle and Tracy, are servers, ensured we were well taken care of, very sweet and our dining experience was great. The meals are soooo good. I highly recommend the Caesar Salad, breakfast in the morning, Delta Breeze drink, fish and chips and turamisu for desert. The prices were very reasonable. We would stay there again. WOW I am changing my review of the Delta King. My wife and I went to the murder dinner for our anniversary and had a bad experience. I posted a review regarding it and received a message from Sara Smyth. She apologized and wanted to make things right and she did. We look forward to checking out another murder show on the Delta King one day and wanted to edit my post about them. Terrible experience! Had a reservation before our polar express train ride. After 20 minutes with no drinks or bread, I flagged someone down (not our waitress). She apologized, grabbed our drinks and brought us bread. I asked her if a little over a hour was enough time to order, get our food and make it to the polar express train ride. She assured me it was fine. She flagged down our waitress, who finally took our order. After waiting 1/2 hour, our waitress came to our table and said she was ready to take our order. We informed her that she already did... a1/2 hour ago!! With a panicked look, she ran off to the kitchen. (I suspect she never placed our order.). After 45 minutes, we were told our food was in the back and would be out in a couple minutes. After 10 more minutes, we had to cancel our order and leave hungry. Absolutely unacceptable! read more

One of the 3 top worst hotels I've stayed at. This place is like a "motel." I understand it's very old but the rooms are tiny. No ACs in the room so the ship has its own ventilation system. We were dying hot all night, then I started smelling cigarette smoke. The worst was the bed. Felt like a $100 spring mattress. My body was so sore after 1 night there. Then the loud trains and seals all night. I didn't sleep at night with everything combined. What a waste of money. read more

I was charged three times for one room due to an online booking error and the hotel refused to reverse any charges. My complaint was even accepted as valid by the BBB but the hotel refused to even contact me and resolve the issue. Came here to celebrate my grandads 86 birthday and it was a real good experience, they service was good, the vibe, and the views were amazing, eating good food on a boat was such a good mood to be in, the drinks were good though they were a little pricey I can understand why, the dinner was buffet style with options of: salad (so good) salmon, chicken, rolls, broccolini, mash potatoes, and there served desert, they also had appetizers and everything was good, especially the lumpia, the only downside to today was that they only had 1 tray of 4 appetizers and once the tray was gone that was it, there was no seconds, so lots of people didn't get to try certain things, so I didn't get to get the deviled eggs but they looked really good, that's the only reason why I can't give this place 5 stars, the customer service was outstanding, they made sure we all had water when we needed, took our plates when we were done and there was a real large group of us like at least 60, I didn't know this boat had a bar, restaurant, and food place on it so me and my wife are going to have to come back. read more

I decided to make the grave decision of dining at the Delta King on Christmas. At the time of making my reservation, I had no inkling this would be a huge mistake. I arrive with my party of 3 at 7 mins early. We approach the host stand, smiles on our faces, explaining our presence: "Hello, Merry Christmas, we have a reservation!" The hostess matches our polite manner with half-hazard spite, etching my name down on a paper waitlist, explaining that we will have to wait for at least twenty minutes. Pause. A 20 min wait? I expressed my perplexity: "So even though we reserved a table, we have to wait 20 minutes?" "We are fully booked, I can't just kick a table out, it's Christmas." I accept this, taking a seat in the lounge area not far from the hostess stand. Next thing, the host is talking sh*t about me, not six feet from where I am currently sat, to her coworker. She mocks our conversation, insulting my party for arriving seven minutes early and expecting our reservation to be reserved, and telling her coworker "I can't magically make a table open up... I'm not SANTA CLAUS! She laughs as frustration, anger, and embarrassment grow inside my feeble mindset. My party waited patiently for about 15-20 minutes before we were finally sat by the host, who I assume felt embarrassed after we made eye contact right after she made fun of me. We accepted her attempt at redemption. She brought us room-temperature tap water and menus. Over the course of 20 minutes, we were told our server would "be there shortly." Finally, our server, the ONLY redeeming factor of the night, arrived at our table to take our drink and appetizer order, offering to get an appetizer for us on the house. Redemption. That was on my mind. Maybe a free appetizer could make up for everything that had already transpired. My party and I enjoyed our drinks and appetizer while contemplating what to order, simultaneously wondering what the special was due to our lack of a seasonal menu or explanation of the special. A while later, after asking for bread and witnessing the table next to us receive their main course before any of their appetizers, we placed our orders. Our food arrived after some time. The risotto on the salmon dish was room temperature. The flatbread was cold. The Caesar salad was not dressed. You get the picture by now. The Grinch stole Christmas. We managed to eat what we could, accepting our fate. A second round of drinks was ordered as a coping mechanism. Halfway through our dishes we put our forks down, took our hands off the table, and sat there, looking around the dining area with glossy eyes, searching for a single employee to address us. What could help us? We racked our brains, stomachs still hungry. Sugar? Yes, sugar. It had been two hours since we were sat. Maybe, just maybe, dessert would save us. We finally reunited with w our server and ordered dessert. Minutes later, the manager stormed across the dining room, chanting cold demands. She informed us and the remaining table that it was the last call and that we had ten minutes to get out. A flashback to the hostess overtook my mind. "I can't just kick a table out, it's Christmas." Well, I'll be damned. Here we were, on Christmas, getting kicked out. No one in the dining room had received a check, our dessert, nor had our tables been bussed. Our server brings our mango sorbet, the best-tasting item I have consumed all night. A minute later, our check is dropped on the table. Not only is the appetizer that was rumored to be "on the house" stated on the check, in bold black lettering, but so is a "Christmas service charge" of 22%. Not only was this "Christmas service charge" undisclosed when we made our reservation, but the "Christmas service" we received included a 20-minute wait on our 7:30 pm reservation, the hostess mocking and making fun of my party in front of our faces, a 20-minute wait to be served cold food, getting booted from the premises before receiving dessert or a check, and the check itself containing items agreed to be taken care of and a 22% surcharge for no apparent reason. We relate our grievances to our server, who takes care of everything promptly and sweetly, like the Christmas miracle she is. My party exits the Delta King along with the large party that was also formally kicked out, laughing in disbelief of the way we were treated. And with that, my dining experience at the Delta King came to a close, along with my Christmas, and 2024. If you made it this far, I hope you learned one valuable lesson for 2025 and possibly a new idea for your New Year's resolutions. Do not dine at the Delta King. I know your family might frustrate you, but at least if you make your food at home it will be hot. read more

This is a beautiful paddle boat on the Sacramento River in Old Sacramento. We've been here before but this review is for the Thanksgiving dinner 2024. We knew the cost per person was $68 fir the buffet style dinner. Our reservations were for noon, we arrived at 11:45 and checked in. The host said we are first and they will call our names in a few minutes. 40 minutes later, and 15 other groups went in first, she finally called our name. We were seated 45 minutes after our reservations and we were there first! THAT is terrible service. We were seated and it took 15 minutes for our waiter to arrive to take our drink orders. We finally were able to start eating at 1:10pm, which is more than an hour past our reservation time,which we were in the first seating. The buffet foil was not good. It was cold, and tasteless. The prime rib must have been the worse beef on earth, it have no seasoning and no flavor. The desserts sat out so long that they were dried out. our waiter, Max, was terrible. He was slow and only checked on us once. My iced tea ran out so I had to go get my own. When he brought our bills, they were wrong. He tried to charge us $50 for a "Banquet fee" that's wasn't shown on the invitation. We asked what this was, he said, ooops that's a mistake. There were 3 families in our group that he did this too. If we didn't look c closely at the bill, they would have made an extra $150. We had 1 young 6 year old that was with us, she didn't eat but they charged us $25 for her to sit there. WTF?? On top of this they automatically added 20% tip. The receipt had another line that asked if we wanted to leave and added tip...I wrote "hech no" on that line. Our bill for 4 adults, with only 2 cocktails was $452. I highly recommend DO NOT GO HERE!! The food was terrible, the seating service was awful, the waiter Max needs training. We stayed at the Delta King hotel on 1 Dec 2025 as a first stop on a 4-day planned trip. The room was tiny, but charming, with the authentic details of an old boat preserved. The low rating given is due to the unreasonable noise from their "adopted" sea lions. We paid for a room on the river side of the boat. We were told (after we had already checked in) that the sea lions made some noise sometimes and there were some earplugs in the room if needed. We knew nothing about the sea lions until we were already checked in. In retrospect, the check-in clerk severely down-played the noise factor. In reality, it was like having ten St Bernard dogs outside our window, barking without ceasing all night long. That is no exaggeration. The earplugs supplied were ineffective for the level of noise the sea lions made. We got practically no sleep that night, which impacted the rest of our trip in a negative way. Had we known in advance, we would have had the opportunity to change our plans. We feel the hotel should have notified us of this fact before we arrived or at least offered us a room on the other side of the boat, where the noise may not have been as bad. We are writing this review so other people have the information to make a more informed decision about staying there that we did not have. It is only fair to be honest about factors that could make or break a stay at any hotel. We don't feel the hotel was fair to us in that way. The bed was quite comfortable, and the staff went the extra mile for us. We ate in the restaurant for both dinner and breakfast, and enjoyed the food and the river view very much. Came here for NYE 2019 party and dinner. The entertainment consisted of live music in the bar. A DJ and casino n the main floor and of course the best view in town for Old Sacramento's Fire works display. Our dinner was surprisingly good. My filet was delicious but my date did not care for her Striped Bass as all the seasoning was in the skin which she didn't want to eat. The flourless chocolate cake was so good I could have licked the plate LoL. Service was good although our server was not very personable. Overall this was a great and unique place to stay. My in-laws booked it and our little was SOO excited to stay on a boat on the river. They are a little old school, so having a toddler around was a little annoying to them I think, he was a little loud and rowdy being at this new adventurous place. I mean they weren't super rude, but they did give us a look and a comment here and there, I mean I can only do so much. Other than that, the rooms are spacious, great views, the restaurant was good and very accommodating to us and our little and the location was great! Walkable to the shops, the rides, the christmas events and shows. I loved it. We probably will come again, hopefully next time our rooms are not right as you walk in and the front office, something I'll request next time. read more

Received the worst service at the bar upstairs before the Murder Mystery Dinner. The bartender was so rude, she left us sit there while serving people who came to the bar after us and gave us attitude when asked what kind of champagne was at the bar. She should have been able to answer, but wasn't, ignores us and came back 10 minutes later to let us know she didn't have any then continued to serve others who just arrived. This was not a good start to our evening and it left us with a sour taste for the rest of the evening. To make it worst another bartender came and gave us more negative attitude. Our family wanted to try something new and decided to try the restaurant at the delta king! We were greeted by the host who was very very sweet! Our server for the most part was good. Unfortunately the food was horrible. And the person who delivered our food was very rude. I simply asked if they had ranch because you could tell he wasn't even going to ask if we needed anything else before he left. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because we had a really really hard time with the door. It kept locking us in and out (room 531) after a night of drinking we had to go down to the lobby to get help with opening our door and a few times after that the next day as well. i attended the murder mystery dinner halloween night. the folks putting on the show were awesome and fun, service ok but food very disappointing. my chicken dinner was not good at all - chicken dry, champagne sauce with mushrooms almost non-existent, mashed potatoes were hard/cold/maybe fake - i ate less than 1/4 of the food and the server didn't ask why nor did they check in with anyone about how things were. others seemed to enjoy the steak. i understand the $90 was mostly for the show but they can and should do better. had i ordered this meal in their restaurant, i would have sent it back. no second chance for this type of event. they already have your money so no incentive or repercussion if you don't like the food. read more

In Sacramento on a busy weekend and this was the only hotel near downtown with vacancy. Not a fan. It's on a river boat in old Sacramento and the concept is cute, but I didn't like much else about it. Rooms were small and a little dingy feeling. There was only one usable outlet and the furniture wasn't movable. No comforter on our bed in the wintertime - just sheets. I've never stayed at a hotel before that charges extra for the second adult, but this one does. They say it's because they give you breakfast at the restaurant. I told them I had to be up early and wouldn't be eating and they didn't care. Valet parking is $25/night but they literally park your car in the public garage across the street. When I voiced that this was odd the lobby staff snapped at me. Between the sad room and the rude staff, go elsewhere. But if you come here, being earplugs. Amazing views of the tower bridge! Room is just big enough. Had tv in the cabinet/dresser and a suitcase rack. 2 chairs and a desk. Alarm clock and plenty of plug in receptacles. Mattress was soso,but slept fine. The ceiling is shorter because it's a boat. So if you're super tall,that might be a problem. Shower is very short. My hubby is 6'2" and he was fine though. Nightlight,soaps,towels,shampoo/cond provided. Super easy walk to old sac. BUT! you MUST eat on the boat. The food was crazy delicious! read more
