My daughter gifted me to Kimpton Sawyer Hotel for a staycations. What a lovely hotel for it. It's close to many interesting destinations like the Golden 1 Center, Crocker Arts Museum, California State Capitol Museum, California State Railroad Museum, Old Sacramento waterfront, and cinema, all within walking distance. When I checked in on Sunday (July 26th, around 4:30 pm), the female staff (whose name I forgot, ) at the front desk was very friendly, professional and super nice. I got a very nice upgraded room (because of my daughter's credit card privileges). The room was big and clean. But the spotlight is on the bathtub!!! A standalone, deep, and curved soaking bathtub that I was able to enjoy this full-body immersion experience with the mandarin and citrus bath salts that the hotel provided. That made my stay truly luscious and fulfilling my daughter's aspirations for me!!. They have a coffee time in the morning at the lobby where we can choose from tea, hot coffee or iced coffee. Then we got to enjoy the social hour for drinks from 5 pm to 6 pm. They offered various wines, beers, liqueurs, non-alcoholic drinks, and appetizers. I particularly liked the cocktail, Silver Spoon cocktails, offered on day 1. It's very smooth and mellow especially when pairing with Korean spicy chicken wings which were the perfect appetizer. We really enjoyed the time at the cozy lobby. It's a nice way to cool down. They have a cocktails making class (Mixology) at the Revival (hotel bar/restaurant) for registered guests and the class is offered daily at 4 pm, same Cocomo drink every day. Adam was a fun and energetic teacher and we all were joyfully engaging like the perfect students. I liked the drink and the the class!! Activity for adults. It's totally cool! We ate our meals mostly at the Revival and room services from the Revival too. I will do a separate review about the restaurant. I loved their gym. Quite spacious with quite a few equipment. I was there exercising alone so I tried most of the equipment. They have a big beautiful pool that's absolutely inviting. They also have several cabanas for groups rental. But it's just too hot to be outside. So I spent most of my time in my hot soaking tub! . I also went shopping and watched a movie. We loved our stay and were especially impressed with the in-room dining breakfast! We tried the Carnitas Benedict with cilantro hollandaise and the Sawyer Breakfast, and both were absolutely delicious. Everything arrived hot, and the breakfast potatoes were perfectly crispy and full of flavor. I ordered the Sawyer Breakfast with two sunny-side-up eggs and the chicken apple sausage and potatoes, which was hearty, flavorful, and very filling. It also came with 2 toast pieces. They initially forgot the jam, but when I asked, they brought it right away (strawberry and grape jam). The service was friendly, attentive, and excellent throughout. We also tried the omelet and breakfast sandwich, and those were just as delicious. Breakfast truly exceeded our expectations! Overall, we had a wonderful stay. The staff was incredibly warm, welcoming, and accommodating, making the experience even better. The only small downside was that the sink in our room was quite small, so water tended to splash everywhere. Aside from that minor issue, everything was fantastic. Cleaning staff was excellent, we loved the room service. We also loved that the hotel offers complimentary bike rentals during the day, which made it easy to explore the area. Location is fine, many restaurants nearby out of business, lots of homeless around. The room looks clean and spacious but the shower glass is too narrow, so water spilled outside on the floor. Complimentary coffee and tea from 6 am everyday, but tea rack was empty around 7, no one refilled the plastic lids even after the front desk was informed. The guest opened the cupboard down there and got the supplies by themselves. Swimming pool supposed to open at 7 am, but the staff was cleaning it at 7:30 am. The outdoor pool was not heated as stated in their website. Mixology is complimentary to teach the guests how to make a cocktail, same Cocomo drink everyday. Disappointing. It's pricey and I genuinely had hoped for a better experience. Thinking upscale hotel and packed accordingly. No face soap! Seriously?! And here for two days. Ugh! Front desk couldn't have cared less which equates to me not investing in the Kimpton brand again. So sad, they used to be someplace special and worth more dollars. The room had multiple dents/scratches/and an unpleasant smell. It was also an oven. Called guest services but no one showed up. Miserable night of minimal sleep. Called next day and it was only temporarily resolved mid afternoon for a few hours. Ridiculous. Two nights without decent sleep! I had a friend coming into town and staying in the DOCO area so I wanted to grab myself a hotel down there for a night or two so we could enjoy as much time together as possible. As someone who always has their dog with them, I naturally headed to the Kimpton Sawyer. I love the Kimpton brand and their super pet friendly policies, so they are always my go-to. When I arrived, I was surprised by the exterior which felt more institutional than boutique but the bigger surprise came when I was quoted a room rate. I travel often and felt that the amount they were asking for a weekday night or two seemed incredibly high. I decided to take a minute and check out some nearby options before committing and within a few minutes I found another hotel, just a short walk away that cost roughly half as much. That price tag of half as much also included a hefty pet fee, which kind of made it even worse in my mind because Kimpton doesn't charge a pet fee, it's so it made the price to discrepancy seem even more egregious. While I was there I did have a meal at the hotel restaurant and after waiting for my order on the patio I was informed that they no longer had my items available. By the time I left I had a sunburn on my neck from sitting outside, waiting, and eating my meal. It wasn't a major issue but it definitely added on to my already disappointing experience. What makes this even more frustrating is that Kimpton has consistently earned my loyalty over the years. This is genuinely the first time one of their properties has let me down. I will still look for Kimpon hotels when I travel because I appreciate their pet friendly approach, but this experience was a good reminder that it's definitely worth doing extra research and comparison shopping before blindly trusting and booking with their brand. read more

We stayed at Kimpton Sawyer Hotel at Golden 1 Center, and unfortunately this ended up being a really difficult stay due to my allergies. I have a strong sensitivity to pet dander, so we specifically requested a room that had not had pets in it. The room itself was actually lovely, and everything looked very clean when we arrived, which made what happened next even more surprising. After getting back from an event and finally laying down for the night, I started having a pretty intense allergic reaction. It came on quickly once I was in the bed, which made me think the linens may have been washed with items that had pet dander. We did reach out to the front desk, and they were kind and offered to change out the linens, which I appreciated. But by that point my reaction was already in full swing, and I just wanted to go home. It was disappointing because everything else about the hotel from the helpful front desk staff to the overall feel of the space was good. Helpful tip: If you have pet allergies, I would recommend calling ahead and asking not only about pet-free rooms but also how linens are handled, since that may still be a factor. It's never fun to cut a stay short, especially at the end of a long day, but for anyone with sensitivities like mine, this is definitely something to keep in mind. read more

A lovely stay! On a whim, I decided to stay at the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel and had a very nice night. Fortunately because it was a last minute booking, the rate was heavily discounted. This is a gorgeous and up-scale hotel with lovely amenities. Parking was very easy. You have the option to valet or self-park in the underground garage. The elevator from the garage leads you directly into the beautiful, modern, and clean lobby. There is an abundance of lounge seating available and a very nice coffee/hot cocoa bar. In the coffee bar, there were syrups and toppings available for use which made it feel much more luxurious. The room was great too. We booked the Premium King Room with the Golden One Center view. The room was spacious and clean. It did not feel cramped or crowded. The bed was comfortable and was furnished with many pillows. The hotel offers almost any bathroom amenities that you can think of if you forgot them. The mini bar is fully loaded, but pricey as expected. I was unfortunately disappointed with the view though. We were placed on the sixth floor and could hardly see the Golden One Center. The window overlooked just the roof of the stadium. We could not see the plaza, city, or much of the stadium at all. If you crane your neck to the sides, you can barely see the Tower Bridge and the State Capitol. We also had some trouble with the AC in the room. It was working early in the night, but despite being set to 65, the heater seemed to have kicked on. It got very hot in the room, and then got very cold on its own even later. Despite this, I would definitely stay at the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel again, just without paying extra for a "view." read more

Wow! We all have heard of the "above and beyond" effort, however we experienced a step above here at the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel. Ivan at the front desk is a treasure. Treated us like we were one of the famous NBA stars currently staying at hotel...so incredibly helpful with area events and goings on, amazing food and entertainment close at hand. Had a restaurant recommendation for everything on our foodcation list. The rest of the staff was on full "above and beyond" mode as they enthusiastically helped with all our needs. And when they say they love dogs...holy smokes, I think the entire staff came to love on our furry kid. The rooms were excellent, clean and so comfy...this will be our vacay spot in Sacramento from now on...so close to so much to do with such care and attention, staying here is no brainer. read more

First impressions are everything. The hotel is located in a convenient spot -restaurants, and shops within walking distance and across from where the Sacramento Kings play. Check-in was smooth, front desk employees were very professional and helpful. The room was clean, bathroom clean, at least at first glance, but when you start to inspect just a little closer you'll see those little things that make a difference pop up. The table is warped because of water spills, I imagine, as you can see the bubbling on the top of the table because it's not real wood. They probably just need to replace the table already. The lamp by the bed as you can see from the pictures looks like it's not been cleaned or dusted since they opened up. The room overall is very sterile looking, it almost feels like a common place where people come and grab snacks. The outlets by the bed are loose, what ever you plug-in won't stay plugged because it's loose so not only a maintenance issue, but I don't think that's safe either. They have spots for USB but not for USB-C, which is a little surprising given the tech adoption, the fact we're about to go into year 2026, and that many electronic devices today have the USB-C for charging, they could at least have it as an option. The other problem I have is that the light control is by the door for all of the main lights in the room. However, there is a light that is attached to the headboard like behind it so if you want that on at night, you have to get out of your bed and go to the door to turn it on or off, which I think is a major design flaw since most hotels will have a light control somewhere by the bed for convenience. Also, they have really nothing in the bathroom as far as lotions are concerned. They had this 1 ounce bottle that was already half used and not replaced when I checked in. My Lysol spray next to it is 1.5 ounces. This Hotel is a place to lay your head if you're in town, but definitely nothing to write home about. read more

I've slept in in a hotel so that is a big plus. I was only there for one night in the company that was inside the hotel so I did not get to explore the surrounding area. The Chappel Roan looking manager hates Asians. They kicked us out for standing and waiting to get a drink and I really do think it was because my husband is Asian because it made zero sense. They said "we saw on cameras" but couldn't further explain what they saw. She called security and everything when I questioned why after standing behind him for 20 minutes waiting to get a drink. A late review, but I finally had some down time. Me and my family stayed here on July 20th through the 21st. It was the best stay. The first day we checked in, it room initially was a great room but the scenery was not great. ( Mostly the Kaiser Building). They were quick to move us with no hesitation. My boyfriend booked this hotel for my birthday getaway, but we were very disappointed with the room. Upon arrival, we noticed nine large red stains on the floor. While we tried to overlook that, everything else went downhill. The room phone didn't work, so we couldn't order room service, and there is only one microwave in the entire hotel on the 8th floor, meaning you'll most likely have to leave your floor just to heat food. The next day, we found the iron didn't work despite trying multiple outlets and refilling it with water. To make matters worse, the "brand new" robe had white residue on the shoulder. We especially expected better considering we paid almost $900 for two nights. Although the location is nice, the room itself was extremely disappointing, and we will not be staying here again. read more

That level of ownership built immediate trust and set the tone for the rest of our visit. We arrived at approximately 2:30 PM, and while our room was not quite ready yet, the front desk team graciously offered us sparkling wine and bottled water while we waited. This thoughtful gesture immediately shifted the emotional tone of the experience -- we felt welcomed and valued rather than inconvenienced. We decided to take advantage of the moment and explore the vibrant energy surrounding the hotel in the Downtown Commons area, which was buzzing with activity because of the major sporting events in town. The walkability, atmosphere, and convenience made it a perfect staycation setting. When we returned, the experience elevated even further. After checking in, we were personally escorted to our room, and the concierge team assisted us with retrieving our belongings that had been securely held during our earlier arrival. These seamless transitions reflected a team that was clearly communicating behind the scenes. Upon entering the room, we were genuinely surprised to find a personalized handwritten welcome note from the Director and the Sawyer team, along with beautifully presented chocolate-covered strawberries and a chilled bottle of champagne on ice. These intentional touches transformed what could have been a stressful logistical situation into a truly relaxing and memorable stay. I believe the front desk associate who assisted us was named Gina, and she -- along with the rest of the front desk staff -- demonstrated warmth, professionalism, and a solution-oriented mindset throughout both our arrival and our checkout the following morning. What impressed me most was not that a challenge occurred -- challenges happen in travel. What mattered was how the team responded. They listened. They took ownership. They elevated the experience. Because of this level of service, I can confidently say that we will absolutely return to the Kimpton Sawyer for another staycation without hesitation. Rooms were quiet and clean (our room was cleaned every day without ask), and staff were all super friendly! The pool area was also gorgeous and clean. Instead of kindness, I was harassed and treated with hostility by a valet staff member who even claimed to be the General Manager (which turned out to be false). This individual immediately assumed I didn't belong and treated me like an unwelcome intruder. When I requested the real manager's contact information, they refused and instead asked me to leave the property. This is not just bad service--it's discriminatory and deeply unprofessional. I left feeling shaken, humiliated, and extremely disappointed. For a brand that prides itself on hospitality, this behavior is beyond unacceptable. I am writing to formally document the deeply disappointing experience my mother and I had at the Kimpton Sawyer during the Mother's Day Brunch & Swim event on May 10. Our stay was characterized by poor service, inconsistent policy enforcement, and treatment that we believe was discriminatory. The issues began at the brunch podium, where staff were reluctant to assist us and dismissive of our seating needs. This continued at the pool, where the manager, Caroline, aggressively enforced a "no outside drinks" policy against my personal water bottle while ignoring other guests with outside beverages and those smoking nearby. Furthermore, our drink order was handled poorly; we waited an extensive time for only half the order, and a serving error involving allergens caused my mother to become ill. When we raised these concerns, the response from Caroline and the hotel manager, Stormy, was defensive and dismissive. The situation escalated unnecessarily when a security guard threatened to call the authorities after claiming Caroline felt "uncomfortable," despite our non-threatening behavior. We felt it necessary to call the police ourselves, who, upon arrival, agreed we had been mistreated. While the General Manager eventually offered to refund our stay, parking, and food the following morning, this was only offered after we explicitly raised the issue of racial discrimination. It was disheartening to see another guest of color express similar feelings of exclusion. Unfortunately we are still waiting for a refund and/or correspondence. This is a great hotel with luxury feel. The beds are comfortable and clean, the design is modern, large space, clean towels, nice fancy coffee and coffee machine, even provided a yoga mat. 24/7 gym and room service! The receptionist gave us an early noon check in. That was very much appreciated because we were tired from a long travel day. She was also nice and friendly. All the staff here greeted us politely, which made a even more pleasant stay and nice atmosphere. They were well trained. The Eco and Rig restaurent at the hotel lobby had quality steak from local ecological farms. It is also located at a nice shopping square, a 3-minute walk to the old Sacramental with cool stores and historical architectural buildings. We have a great rest there. read more

We decided to head up to Sacto for my birthday. We were going to meet my daughters boyfriend's parents so that was long overdue and we were very excited. It's funny that the name of this hotel is also my dogs name so we had to give it a try, and they accept dogs so that was nice. The normal time for check in is 4 p.m. here which is the latest that I've ever heard of, the latest is usually 3 but we were able to get 1:30 they let us check into a room that wouldn't be occupied the night before so we got the king room with a nice patio. The carpet was very spotty but this is to be expected with a dog hotel. I didn't go barefoot because that just freaks me out. The room was big enough which was nice. After the tiny rooms in Japan this was great. The beds were okay but they need an upgrade. The staff were very helpful and delivered us a welcome tray. It was delicious cheese with jam. The patio area was nice but very dirty, there was a cigarette butt out there. I mean they could have done a quick blow or sweep... The room was clean and modern which I like. The only thing that was bad was the paper products were very cheap for a $500 a night room. A new thing hotels have started to do is have one person that texts you throughout your stay to check on things. I think this is a nice feature. We had this in Scotland for the first time and we think it's smart. My daughter's best friend had stayed here for her birthday and rented out a cabana by the pool on the 3rd floor level. It's very nice. One huge minus was the kids parking our car messed up all my light settings, temperature settings, and music settings, I was LIVID!! This is so annoying since I will have to go back in my manual and reset everything... :( They should park the car and that's it. I know they must be bored but please!! ;( They definitely charge you for the valet service so that makes it more annoying! I mean $40 per night is fair because it's location but having those boys mess up my car like that is unforgivable! Like I always say; "Time is Money" and now I have to spend a good deal of time restoring all my settings.... time is a valuable commodity at my advanced age! The worst hotel I have ever stayed at. 1 night costed me $450 for the worst service ever. The front desk receptionist with the red hair was super rude and gave me a ton of additude when I was checking in. Where is the customer service here? Also - while I was getting checked out (fortunately it was not with the red haired girl) she was helping a guy next to me because he booked an appointment for his wife to get a massage and the hotels massuse never showed up and gave him really nasty additude and said she couldn't do anything about it. Did not give him any insight or anything on what he should do. The red haired receptionist truly ruined my experience at this hotel and I will NOT be staying here ever again. read more

I have been a guest at Kimpton hotels over a couple of decades, even before they joined IHG (International Hotel Group) they are great boutique hotels, quirky with secret passwords, and regular guest perks such as "raid the bar", yoga mats, free loaner bicycles, early check-in, late check out, complimentary pressed garments, evening social, etc, but the absolute favorite is pets are welcomed, and they really roll the red carpet for cats and dogs, ducks, etc, and at no extra charge. For those not familiar with IHG One Rewards program, even after the merger Kimpton Hotels continue to have their own loyalty program with in IHG One rewards, and is one of the best, only caveat "Inner Circle" is by invitation only. Sadly, one of my first experiences at Kimpton Sawyer soon after their grand opening was not a good one, since then, I've stayed there many times and it's one of my favorite hotels in Sacramento California. If you are planning a visit to Sacramento, Kimpton Sawyer should be at the top of your list of hotels to stay, work and enjoy your visit. From pre arrival to valet parking and check-in the experience has consistently been top notch, I have waited many years and numerous visits to update my review, it is not the cheapest hotel in town, but then, nowadays most good hotels are expensive, not only service and attention to detail is excellent, the hotel still looks like the day it opened in October 10, 2017, everything from public areas to guest rooms are immaculate, and that is very hard to do. Building is relatively new. Rooms are kept clean. Convenient to everything, especially the Golden 1 right next door. Keep in mind that the restaurants in the hotel all close fairly early (last one closes at 11:30PM) and there is no breakfast except for via room service. However, we had trouble ordering room service. We would call and they would just hang up on us. The shower in the bathroom is odd too. No place for wash cloth, razor, etc. There's only one small metal shelf with the shampoo, conditioner and body wash on it and no room for anything else. read more

BEFORE I GET INTO THE NEGATIVE LET ME SAY THAT THE WAITRESS VICTORIA AT THE POOL IS THE BEST THING ABOUT THE KIMPTON! SHES ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! We stayed at the kimpton last year for my brother's 30th & had an amazing time decided to become a member & than returned for my son's 16th birthday. It was issue after issue. AC didn't work, Key wouldn't work would go back to front desk go back up & key still didn't work. Had to switch our rooms. Bell guy left my bag in old room i didn't realize until the next morning. I was in a panic thinking they stole it. Water in new rooms were scorching hot. When we were speaking to the manger he whispered under his breath "I want to get rid of you guys all together" Even after all the issues we decided to extend our stay another night. The lady at the front desk was super rude rolling her eyes. Just a very disappointing experience! read more

If you want your belongings removed from your room and thrown away--stay here. If you want your packages you shipped here to be given to another guest or shipped back without authorization--stay here. I am writing about two stays two years apart and cannot believe similar experiences occurred. I have top tier status with this hotel chain if that matters and I've been a Kimpton loyalist for 15 years. I emailed the property the week before arrival to say hello, ask specifics, etc. The first stay, we had come from a National Park trip and were ending here in the city. Get to our room and the mini fridge is full of stinky prior guest food. Yuck. I call to ask for it to be removed. We then went to wine hour in the lobby. Get back to our room and see they came in, removed the bag from the mini fridge, BUT also removed our personal bag of souvenirs, metal water bottles, etc. that were in this large reusable shopping bag on the desk/counter next to our luggage. I call downstairs and am told they threw away our items (as in the dumpster) and we will not get them back. Several things could not be replaced. I was floored... as to how this could happen. Ruined the rest of our stay. The director of guest services at the time tried to make it better by bringing us a few snacks. I did itemize what was in the bag even though it couldn't all be replaced and they deducted that from the final bill. This didn't really help something that shouldn't have happened in the first place. Fast forward to my latest stay last month. It was my birthday celebration combined with a work trip. My husband had three boxes of trade show product samples shipped prior to our arrival. I contacted the hotel a few days before our arrival via email to let them know and had an employee acknowledge this and leave notes on my reservation. Upon check in, we ask about the boxes and they say they'll look and bring them up. They were delivered to the hotel with a signature the day before we checked in. Never get the packages nor a call and it's now the morning of the show. No one can find them... we're getting brushed off, now late, and have to go without product samples. New director of guest services finally tells us via phone message near the end of day one (of a two day trade show) that they delivered them to another guest's conference room. That's the first story. But they can't reach the guest who has checked out and still can't tell us where our property is. Hours... maybe the next and last day of the show, they tell us they removed the shipping labels, put new labels on our boxes, and shipped them to LA. Huh?! I can't make this stuff up. So we never get our samples. We attend a show with ZERO product because of these idiots and their incompetency AND they never did anything to make this better. We had to overnight one box of "extras" from the east coast office that were not the quality they should be NOR there in time for the whole trade show and at checkout had to show them a receipt for the expensive shipping and they reimbursed us. The samples were back at the hotel an entire week later and we had to have a client receive them though he had no use for them now that the show was over. Also, know that Diamond members will be told breakfast IS an amenity choice. I chose this both stays after the front desk explained the restaurant isn't owned by Kimpton (or doesn't offer breakfast) and I would just need to use room service for breakfast. We did order very inexpensive breakfast items that fall into the Diamond breakfast amenity range. At checkout, both visits, was told this isn't an amenity here and had to argue to get my money back because I never would have eaten there otherwise. Train your front of house staff to say the right things. Lack of information here is embarrassing and exhausting. Long story short, the communication here is terrible. Experiences such as mine as not the exception. They are clearly the rule. I wanted to love this property as a long time Kimpton customer, but they made it hard. My stay at the Kimpton Sawyer in Sacramento was amazing from start to finish. The atmosphere of the entire hotel is honestly unmatched. Modern and effortlessly welcoming. The vibe is exactly what you want when you're looking for a place in Sac that feels upscale but still relaxed. Every space from the lobby to the rooms to the pool area, has this cool warm energy that makes you feel instantly comfortable. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the overall environment just feels thoughtfully designed. Not to mention the hospitality and catering the engineer staff will do for you so that you have a smooth stay is amazing. It's the kind of hotel where you actually want to hang out instead of just sleep. Whether you're grabbing a drink, lounging by the pool, or just passing through the lobby, the whole place has such a clean, vibrant, and lively feel. read more
