Decided to try this place out because we are never at a mall, let alone on the opposite side of town, but I was super hungry and we found it on yelp. In all honesty, it seemed to be just regular mall food to me, nothing impressive and nothing horrible. We got the 2 meat combo with chicken wings and fish with 2 sides (beans and rice? And the Mac n cheese) which comes with... a sweet Hawaiian roll? Either way, the chicken wings needed more seasoning, but they were cooked well and the Hawaiian roll was just...nOt a soul food biscuit that's for sure. The Mac n cheese used real cheese...but for some reason the texture was super off/chunky/floury and there was hardly a taste. Maybe it was because it was later after night that we went? I don't know. What was good was the fish! Well seasoned and well cooked. The bean and rice were also well done to us. Buuuuut it better have been since it took a little over 20 minutes for it to come out. Overall, still good if you're hungry at the mall and have more than a 30 minute lunch, but definitely not worth seeking out for what they would call Soul Food. read more

Delta Soul is located in the food court at Meadows Mall. Since this is a mall food court my expectations aren't the highest, however when we saw "soul food" as an option we decided to give it a try. 2 pieces of chicken and fries for $5.99, can't beat that price. She asked me if I wanted to add seasoning on the chicken and so I decided on lemon pepper. (Side note: I found out from my receipt that is an additional $0.50 for seasoning, I'm ok with it, but it would've been nice to know that they charge because I assumed it was free). The chicken was super crispy and juicy, but the seasoning for me was way too salty. It was served with crinkle fries, which no complaints here. My fiancé ordered the chicken tender with waffle and yams for $6.99, again great price. If you look at the photo it's not as appetizing, but the combination of chicken, waffle, and yams went perfect together. Perfect combo of sweet and savory. I really enjoyed their candied yams. Overall I gave 3 stars for the service, price, and decent food. The girl in the front, super nice and friendly. She mentioned we can sample any of the sides. The prices were reasonable, when you get real soul food the prices can get ridiculous, so it's nice to see it's still affordable. I order a casserole that look very good on the menu picture but instead I only got a soap hot rice With literally 3 very small pieces of sausage floating around. The beans were about half cooked. Who wants to eat hard beans? The flavor of the juice didn't marry very well. You can taste each ingredient put into it individually, it wasn't a symphony in the mouth composed and blended well. So sad. The macaroni and cheese was flat like 80 year old titties. You would have to cover them in salt and pepper to give them ANY sort of flavor, (we did). For some reason the cheese tasted like cardboard. At least it wasn't box mac and cheese, but it wasn't the bomb, not even a dynamite cap. I was highly disappointed in the biscuit, because the "biscuit" is just a Hawaiian sweet roll straight from Walmart. I mean I'll eat it, but that sure as hell ain't no soul food. The wings were so spicy I could smell the heat from 2 feet away. I did not want to try them because they smelled way too hot - that isn't my thing. Can't give my review on those. However, if I did try them I'm sure I would not have been that impressed. I really don't know what else to say except it's basic Mall wannabe soul food. Delta Soul is located on the second floor food court in Meadows Mall. So I've been here twice and had the smothered pulled pork fries and then the fried chicken with fries. Beginning with the service, it's clean and everyone here is surprisingly friendly. Most food court workers usually don't have happy expressions and understandably so . I don't think I waited more than 10 minutes each time. In regards to the chicken and fries, it wasn't bad but I would say the crinkle cut fries (this also goes for the smothered fries) were a little over seasoned making them a little too salty for my taste. The chicken was a little dry but that was helped with hot sauce. So I guess I had something else in mind for "smothered" fries but it's basically melted shredded cheese over the fries. The pork was fairly savory though. However, I did enjoy the portion sizes and it's a nice change from the standard food court places like Panda Express, Sbarro, random "Japanese" stands, etc. Prices weren't bad either. I wasn't sure about soul food in the food court but was excited to give it a try. The staff was super nice offering samples of any of the sides except fried foods. Which was fine because I judge every soul food restaurant on the greens. My little sample of the greens was enough to sell me! My husband had red beans and rice and was also sold. We ordered lunch. The cashier was very nice, greeted me with a smile and asked if I wanted to sample anything...well yes EVERYTHING because it smelled so damn good. Tried the jambalaya...Delicious. She informed us that any sides were able to be sampled as long as they didn't require being fried. She walked us through the menu and answered any questions we had. We decided on trying several menu items like the fried fish, chicken tenders, their "insane" fries with several types of meats and cheese on them, and the red beans and rice. OK so I know mall food gets a bad rap & people don't go out of their way to eat there but this place is good. I only deducted a star because our order took about 20 minutes and the cashier seemed "distracted". My son had bacon mac&cheese and mozzarella sticks. He said the mozzarella was OK but the Mac was great. Big pieces of smokey bacon and rich cheesey sauce. The flavor was mellow but that's the way it should be and he said it's one of the better he's had. Whatever, my feelings aren't hurt. Not at all. We also had fried green tomatoes & fried pickles. The tomatoes were fresh, thinly slice and dredged in a cornmeal mix before being fried. The pickles got the same treatment but they were slightly spicey. We ordered a large. Don't do that. It's huge. 4 of us couldn't finish it. Or order a large, take it home and eat it at 10 at night while writing a review on yelp. I may need tums tonight. I can only get this place on one star has the front office grow at the cashier was absolutely delightful she has a very charismatic way of bringing people to the counter to try their food she did offer samples and I have to say from coming from Atlanta Georgia and from a southern background this was not authentic Soul southern food it was very Bland the rice and beans were like water the mac and cheese had seasoning salt that made it taste very bitter and the greens still taste like there was dirt on them and weren't cleaned correctly was not the best experience and unless they had a Yelp Elite events and they had new management or new cooks that's the only way I would come back to try it again read more

It was good while it lasted. When I first came across Delta Soul a few months ago I loved it. The food was fresh & delicious and the service was top notch. I told everyone I could think of about how good this place was. That has been declining but yesterday was the worst. At the register, the cashier couldn't wait to get through the order. Instead of asking if there was anything else I wanted or letting me continue, with every item I ordered she would give me the total even though I was trying to continue my order. I ordered strips but instead was presented with chicken pieces (thigh, wing, etc). I asked them to correct it and they did but I should have known better when it only took a minute or two. The strips were stale and dry. My daughter told me her food was awful too. In addition, I was treated to a conversation between the cashiers AT THE COUNTER with no attempt to keep it private that they were disgusted with the tips they get there and how anyone raised with any manners tips well. No, I'm not going to tip the crappy service I just got. Tips are given when you give good service not the subpar service you were providing. I'm so disappointed. I hope this was a one-off but I won't be going out of my way to find out. read more

Was on a lunch break from work with a friend and we decided to try something new. Keeping in mind this is in a food court of the mall. BIG mistake. First of all - if you're going to place yourself in a mall food court, you need to make sure that your customers can get their food FAIRLY QUICKLY. I ordered the pulled pork sliders and fries and my friend ordered the 6 "mild" wings and greens for a side. More than 20 minutes later we FINALLY got our food. This wasn't the exception - it's the rule. Every person ordering - their order took 20 minutes minimum. Next - my friend tried the greens and asked if I wanted to try them. YUCK - they tasted like they were made with dirty dish water. My friend did request and received a refund on them ($3.99 for a container that's about 1.5" tall and about 3" across!) but not without another hiccup - the cashier had to wait for a mgr to do it, since she didn't know how. My friend let the mgr know what was wrong and all the manager said was that "I'll talk to them". (But with a smile on her face the whole time.) The pulled pork was dry but did have some (basic) flavor. The cashier that gave me the bbq sauce in a little cup was somewhat cheap on the amount so it really didn't do much for the sandwich. And the BBQ sauce was nothing to speak of. Tasted like a bottled sauce. Nowhere on their flyer or anywhere posted is there a description of the food. It would be helpful. The fries that came with my sliders combo had cayenne pepper or something on them with the salt. Needless to say, I was a bit surprised when I ate some not realizing. And finally - about whoever did their marketing and location choice - how smart is it to choose a location that is literally 2 doors down from an existing BBQ place?? My suggestion - don't waste your time or money here. The food is mediocre at best. I've had good Memphis BBQ and this place is definitely not that. Save time and money and eat at Dickey's - the BBQ place 2 doors to the right. The food is better, quicker and cheaper too! read more

So impressed with this hidden gem in the Meadows Mall! The staff was attentive and friendly, they even let us try samples of the mac & cheese and red beans and rice! They were so good! I was a little worried about having the food pre-made, so the staff assured us that they could fry us up fresh chicken and cat fish! All of the food was great, I do wish that the catfish was bigger portion, two pieces felt small! The prices were very reasonable though! As far as the mac and cheese, the pepper in was a bit strong for my daughter and me, the flakes were Maybe try using pepper that's more corse, but it was still delicious!
