We were looking for a good soul food spot close by the convention center when I came across Southern Style Eatery on yelp and decided to call to see if they would accommodate a take out order. The man that answered told me they weren't open yet but he would take my order and have it done if I came now. When we got there the owners let us in and gave us so much hospitality. A great family own restaurant. We ordered the shrimp basket 10/10 came with a lot of shrimp, fries, and very flavorful. Fish bites was my favorite came with a lot of fish and it had a lemon pepper seasoning on it crispy. Chef's kiss 100/10 My son got the wings and fries plain and if you can make flavorful wings without sauce you got it! 10/10 And side of Mac 10/10 Not to mention all that food was under $40 which could have easily been a $50 bill at home in LA This has become 1 of my family's favorite in Vegas and we definitely will come back again every time we stop in town. read more

I visited this restaurant for the first time today. The ambiance/energy of the restaurant has an old school Southern vibe. The Fish Po Boy I had was good but the Fried Green Tomatoes tasted hard and overcooked. This restaurant provided very poor service not to me exactly but I received my food before a few people who have been waiting longer than me. A couple of ladies who sat right next to me got up and walked to the back takeout area to complain and then I heard to employees in the kitchen yelling at each other which is very unprofessional. When people walk into the Dine In section of the restaurant, there isn't any employees to greet them and there's no sign stating Open Seating or Please Wait To Be Seated. Came for after service Sunday lunch and the food was AMAZING- seasoning on point, Mac n cheese was a hit, collards and yams! Ugh you gotta try it. There is a wait for the food about 30mins BUT it is worth it, the portion size is enough for two meals and it's HOT when it comes out which is highly appreciated. I knew my food was fresh when it came out which made the wait worth it. Cute little spot downtown. However parking is limited. The service isn't really service service it's like order and eat in type of service but as they grow and add full service (water, table check-ins and etc) it's gonna really take off (also it was extremely busy like every table filled busy). This was our 2nd visit while in Vegas for my birthday weekend!! Our first visit was Easter weekend for our Anniversary and the food was amazing!! The service was great because we came right before closing. The food was fresh and delicious. The music was perfect, the right music at the right volume. There is nothing like coming to a place and what's on the menu they don't have or it's served on another day but doesn't state on the menu. Coming from the Bay Area where when you go to an establishment what you order on the menu you get. So, without even tasting the food I won't be back. I again called to confirm my party of 20-22 people when I arrived in Vegas. The food was amazing !!! However I wish they had cornbread for us all as only maybe 4 people received it. Once me and my family first entered the energy seemed great and the service too but shortly after all that changed! We were told it would be a 20 min wait and we were there for over an hour waiting for our food. The greens are tasteless with too much vinegar. The rice they're using has to be uncle Ben's minute rice, couldn't even cook actual rice! We paid $97 and I literally want my money back. The owners are very unprofessional and were arguing the whole time. On top of that, they had family and friends coming to dine and they got their food before us!! And again, we waited over an hour! It takes literally 5-10 min to cook shrimp and 15 min to cook fish. The sides normally are already cooked especially being that they use minute rice. Unacceptable! The hostess explained the menu to me and gave insight on menu items when I asked. I ordered the fried catfish, macaroni & cheese and red beans w/rice. I try to support Black owned businesses and wanted to give this place a good rating, but couldn't. We searched online and found this place. Online info said this place would open at 11am. When we checked again, the time had been pushed to 1pm. Once we arrived, doors opened a little past 1pm. Not a big deal, however when we started to order, several items that were advertised weren't available. We started to just leave, but wanted to support, so we stayed. We were told by an employee that they were involved with a catering event earlier and were unable to supply the menu items. If a catering event will cause the restaurant to suffer, then maybe the restaurant should not have opened that day at all. Since there was no Dirty Rice, I settled for regular white rice. Since there was no gravy I was given red beans on my rice. There was no cornbread so we were given Hush Puppies. We ended up with Fried Fish, Chicken, Mac n Cheese, Greens and Yams. The Mac n Cheese was very salty, the greens were mushy and obviously old and overcooked, the Hush puppies were too hard and crunchy and the Yams lacked flavor and tasted old as well. The chicken was undercooked and obviously rushed. They DIDNT have ANY desserts AT ALL. Although we dined in, we couldn't eat the food and ended up throwing it away. We left very disappointed. I wish I had checked the reviews on this place before going, because all negative reviews seem to complain about the same thing, which is exactly what I experience there. Plus I've noticed on YELP, that the owner/Ceo will criticize and attack you for SPEAKING YOUR TRUTH about your experience there. My boyfriend and I were excited to try Southern Style Eatery because of how busy our usual go-to soul food restaurant is on Sundays. It was about 2 or 3 in the afternoon when we got there and they had about 6 tables open when we arrived. We sat at our table for about 30 minutes before someone came to check on us (there were two other women there aside from our waitress who had checked on other tables since we sat down so "short staffing" or "being busy" doesn't seem like a plausible excuse). After the wait, the waitress came up to our table and immediately had an attitude. She quickly took our drink and food orders and gave my boyfriend his drink right after, but I never got mine until we were checking out, and only because my boyfriend had reminded them that I had ordered one. During our meal, my boyfriend tried to get the attention of several staff members, all of which made eye contact with him and walked past the table. They never checked on our table to see how we were doing between dropping off the food and giving to-go boxes. Never in my life have I cried in a restaurant, but the attitude of the staff was so dismissive and rude I had to excuse myself from the table. We were so upset by the service that we decided to leave sooner than intended. We had the same issue of trying to flag down staff just for some to-go boxes. One of the other women (not our waitress) finally noticed us and provided boxes and my drink. Over the course of our time there, two tables who came in at or right after we did had service before us (as soon as they were sat) and paid their checks and packed up their food before we even got to-go boxes. The inside of the restaurant is smaller and the tables are close enough that we noticed she was also friendlier and more attentive to every other table that was not ours. When we went to check-out at the counter, the waitress rushed over to take our payment even though another worker was already processing payments and immediately changed her attitude. She was suddenly being overly nice and conversational (because she only acted like this as we were paying, it made me think it had something to do with trying to get a good tip). TWICE the hours were incorrect and the doors are locked. No one is inside. Business claims to be open. Not true. This is insane to not reflect your ACTUAL business hours.
