We had the smoked turkey, and it was perfect-- just the right amount of saltiness from the brine, and the smoke was nice & flavorful without overpowering the delicate flavor of the turkey itself. The ribs were also on-point with the dry rub having pops of tasty pepper & other complex seasoning-- you know these tender ribs are good when they require ZERO sauce! We tried 4 sides and all of them were delicious... the soft-cooked greens were classic & tasty, the potato salad was great, the pinto beans were particularly good, and the cole slaw was fresh, crunchy & rich in flavor. The food was tasty. However the delivery service the used is TERRIBLE. Took 1.5 hr for a BBQ delivery with the restaurant is 4.5 miles from the hotel. Ok food nothing special or notable about it. I had the two meat plate which also came with two sides. I had the brisket and rib ends along with mac n cheese and coleslaw as the sides. The sides were watered down flavors and tasteless. The mac didn't even taste like it had cheese flavor and was a pale yellow color. The coleslaw was also very bland. I'll have to try some other sides on my next visit. The bbq had a very peppery and smoky flavor. I enjoyed the lean brisket it may be a bit too lean for some but was fine for me. The rib ends were dry and peppery a little hard to eat on its own so I drenching them in bbq sauce. The texas toast they also put on the plate was only toated on one side which was a bit odd and was kinda soggy on the other side. The restaurant is self service type so you will need to get your own drinks, silverware and extras before sitting and get your own to go box and throw out any trash more like a fast food place. When they are not busy the staff will come around to ask how everything is and offer to take your trash or get a togo box. It's sometimes a bit odd for me to tip when you are doing all the service yourself minus cooking the food. We really wanted some Texas bbq, being on a road Trip and not having any restaurant food we were excited to try this place because the reviews were so great and the food looked really good. No cobbler so we had the banana pudding and strawberry cake. Well after a 30 round trip from the oasis rv park we get back and no ribs or rib tips.... The lady who took my order I should have had her repeat it back to Me because she kinda was rushing me, saying "is That everything?" After everything I was ordering... like it was a hassle. Rib slab wasn't on the receipt and I guess they just forgot to put the rib tips in. Oh we really wanted some ribs! On the other hand the brisket was the best brisket I ever had and the banana pudding also the best I ever had. I wish I could have that banana pudding recipe it didn't even taste like vanilla wafers it was something more magical than that. Coleslaw was dry, Mac was the original but I think we got spicy it had red dots all over it and had a big kick... potato salad was pretty good, sausage wasn't from the bbq I wish it had a char or something on it so it was just alright. Corn bread was dry, Texas toast was average.... beans not Much flavor at all. Sometimes a good place needs more than the standard 5-star. This deserves a sixth star or a super 5-star! The interior is relatively new and going for the Rustic Chic vibe. The chili and cheese sausage was very, very, very good. I would really recommend the sausage. Texas BBQ these days is almost always associated with brisket. The fad in the beef market these days mainly targets brisket. Unfortunately the brisket was very good, but the other two two eclipsed it. The pinto beans were the best of the breed I've had this year. The coleslaw had a nice mellow kick. Maybe some cayenne pepper in there. Another fine product from Mikes. The coleslaw was also delicious with just a hint of sweetness and a bit of creamy col sauce to tame the heat from the other items. Andy loved the insane amount of meat on his Justus 4 all sandwich. Returning from vacation in Colorado me and my family stopped in for dinner. We are from Fort Worth, and walking into Mikes made me immediately feel like I was home. The food was flavorful, served with great hospitality. The live music was an added bonus and we stayed a while to listen after finishing our meal. A great BBQ place on the south side of Amarillo. They have won a number of awards over the years and their food reflected that. I had Mike's mess, which is a Frito pie on steroids. We also had the mac-n-cheese and some pecan pie. I tried both sauces and I enjoyed them both. My only nit pick is that my dish wasn't very hot. It was warm, but the cheese wasn't even melted on top.
