I had to leave so I didn't try the food. This place is cheating you by advertising a promo but later insisting that only cheese pizza is part of it, despite the picture showing meat on it, with no small print explaining that discrepancy. Additionally, they display bottles of beer while the text says a soda is included. This is not fair and most likely even illegal. Interestingly, the staff was unable or unauthorized to manage this situation by offering me a discount or anything. That was not my goal at all though. Nice location St Armand's Circle was incredibly busy last night. It was their 45th Annual Holiday Night of Lights and the area on the east side of the circle was packed with people. Rico's is located over on the west side so while it was busy it was not as crushing. We were able to get inside and even score a table. You order at the counter and they bring you your food. My wife and I ordered a 12" pizza called Works Pizza to share, a nice combination of popular ingredients pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, onions, olives, and peppers. The pizza took less than 20 minutes to be dropped off. We both liked it but thought the crust was too thick, thicker than what I would call traditional, giving the pizza a chewier too much bread result. I did see dough being tossed so perhaps this could be adjusted by request. Lastly, I did notice on our receipt they have a service charge for using credit cards. I didn't see any note where I would have known that until after I paid with my card. I try to ask when I eat out but didn't remember this time. Although the amounts are small, I'm trying to pay cash if I'm being charged more to use a card than I get via rewards. The receipt shows a "Cash Discount" amount but that's misleading, there is a roughly 4% fee on top of the menu prices for using a card. read more

We went into this pizza place today at 11 when it opened. We ended up not ordering because of the employee who clearly did not want to be there. We had a member in our party who has celiac disease (cannot eat gluten). When we entered the store he was making a pizza, so we asked him if they offered gluten free options. He responded with "yes, they could" the celiac member in our party asked what flour/ingrediants they use to substitute and the employee said "I don't know, nothing with gluten". After that we just left because we did not feel comfortable with someone making her pizza who could not even tell us how they made it. While I do not expect sunshine and rainbows in customer service, I do expect the workers to know what they are making and to not have headphones in while working with customers. read more

I'm gluten intolerant and have never had an issue with the pizzas that I have gotten. They use a regular oven instead of a brick one, so pizza snobs be aware. In Rico's defense, I think I just had too many toppings I ordered the Stromboli with ricotta cheese, hoping that I would get a lot of peppers in the flavor but the ricotta just drowned everything out. I may have lost flavor round one but bet on a second method of victory; the sauce. Even if the toppings were not that great or flavorful , that nice big side of marinara to mop the Stromboli with would more than make up for that ( so I ordered two marinaras!) To me, the marinara was bland Once again to be fair, there are a lot of people who don't like things heavily seasoned and I'm sure any type of meat and potatoes type person that just likes things simple would love this pizza I wouldn't tell you not to go to Rico's because the staff was absolutely wonderful and they really went out of their way to make sure that you have a good experience. When I mentioned that it wasn't 9:30 yet, she told me that she was tired and her and the workers had been there since 10:00 am. It's especially appreciated for the take-away options and abundance of outdoor seating along the side walk. Atmosphere/decor inside is pizza parlor meets sports bar but tiny. They'll bring food out to the street for you, and you don't have to bus your own table. They'll be upfront with you when they're busy and give heads ups when things are running behind. For example, pizza was 45-60 minutes behind but subs, pastas, salads, and other apps were quicker for our hungry family. Food is sneaky good. The grilled chicken sub and meatball sub had nice baguettes with just enough crunchy toastiness, meaty cheese, and plenty of flavor without relying on oils and salt alone. I was expecting soggy and pleasantly surprised it was not. The penne ala vodka, penne marinara, and peas and spaghetti were all al dente, plentiful, and crowd pleasers. The Greek salad was nice, and Sicilian salad was very nice -- tons of delicious chicken, legit mozzarella slices, ripe tomatoes, and good basalmic vinaigrette. Price was pleasing, too. This place has great pizza! They serve it by the pie or the slice (and they're big slices), and they have a great lunch deal of two slices with a drink for only $10. Can't beat that! We wanted a late(r) night snack and were craving pizza so we ordered a large pepperoni with some BBQ wings and salad. To start, we were given a time to pick up the order from the restaurant and when we arrived at that time, we still had to wait 15 minutes for it to be done. The pizza was very much lacking in sauce (you can see from the photos) and overall pretty bland. We didn't do a lot of research on other pizza places nearby but I would bet there is better quality pizza in the vicinity that you could order from. The salad I ordered was not worth the cost, in my opinion. There was some grilled chicken with artichokes and cut tomatoes over some romaine lettuce. For $14 I think I could have prepared this in 10 minutes with some cans in my pantry. The BBQ wings were probably the best thing we ordered but still underwhelming. Seems like they baked the wings and drizzled (instead of tossed) some BBQ sauce on it as they weren't coated evenly. We'll probably try out a different place in Sarasota next time we're in the area. read more

Closest thing I have found to NY pizza. Crispy crust. Oil drips off when eating a slice the way it's supposed to do.

You can smell the greatness from outside! Pizza sauce has was rich and flavorful. The crust was cooked to perfection and reminded us of the streets of New York.
