Definitely a great place to people watch and excellent date place as it is moderately priced (so you don't look too cheap). Loved the tri tip salad. A very solid salad but a bit pricey at $18. Definitely skip the bifteki smirnako which was $22. It was ok but I wasn't digging the Patty. Too many clashing flavors. Service was really good and attentive. They kept our water glasses filled. Cousins Lunch! 3 of us from 3 different places meeting at this wonderful, warm, welcoming restaurant. We started at 11:30 with pita and hummus. A nice start. On to Mediterranean Pasta, a beautiful salad with a huge hunk of feta and a tasty bowl of fasolstha. Dessert?! Yes! Baklava and those tasty Greek donuts to share with our coffee. Was in downtown Livermore for an afternoon appointment and had a quick lunch at Demitris. We got their shortly after opening so the resturarant was quiet. We chose to eat on the patio, it was still cool outside. Nice shaded area right out front of the building, they also have more patio seating across the walkway. Service was polite and informative, answered the questions we had on a few items. Hands down the BEST avgolemono soup I have had. The balance of lemon flavor and creaminess makes me happy. Both of us had the soup, we also shared an order of falafel and hummus/pita bread. Of course the pita bread was amazing, soft pillows of doughy goodness. The hummus had great flavor, not too strong. The falafel was crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. They serve it with a side of Demitri's sauce which is excellent, whatever it was made with. Delicious Greek food in the heart of downtown Livermore. The menu was quite extensive, which made it difficult to make a choice since so many dishes sounded great. We were met with a complimentary basket of toasted bread and skordalia at the beginning of our meal. It was my first time trying skordalia and I won't forget it. Super garlicky, smooth, and absolutely comforting. I went light for dinner and had a small Greek salad. The veggies were fresh, the flavors were vibrant, and the feta was oh-so dreamy and creamy! My friends had the chicken souvlaki pita, side veggies, and a side rice pilaf. I also tried some garlic feta fries and was all about them. The fries were seasoned well and had a crunchy exterior and fluffy interior while not getting soggy with time. I LOVED their feta and still can't get over it. It's high quality and I wish I had the same kind in my fridge. There was ample seating between the indoor and outdoor dining spaces. The patio was lit up beautifully in the evening with many strings of lights. Our waitress was very friendly and just the right amount of attentive. What a wonderful experience. We walked in after we went to the Fat Pigeon for happy hour. Demitris staff is fantastic. Very friendly and helpful. We were seated right away. Came here for lunch after getting my car fixed. Saw that they had Avogolemono Soup. It was delicious. We sat outside for lunch underneath one of the tables shaded by an umbrella. Nice day perfect for eating outside. In addition to the soup, I ordered the Souvlaki (pork tenderloin skewer) in Pita, and substituted a salad for the Fries. My wife got the Gyros in Pita with fries. My skewer was cooked perfectly. There was plenty of Tzatziki sauce along with Onions and Tomatoes in my Pita. I had some of the Gyros meat from my wife's plate. It was good too. Service was a little slow, but it was fine because my wife and I wanted a nice relaxing meal. The Souvlaki and Gyros were hot when they came to the table so I think the waiter was waiting until I finished my soup and salad before putting in our main order. I will definitely come back. Basically Greek version of donut holes in not too sweet cinnamon syrup and crushed walnuts. I usually go with baklava as my dessert but wanted to try something new. I regretted it lol. Their tzatziki is refreshing, ranch dressing you ain't got nothing on their tzatziki, if they sold it in a 5 gallon bucket I'd put the $hit on everything! It was my birthday today. We live in Brentwood, a food wasteland. So, since we hadn't really spent time in downtown Livermore, we decided to wander around and pick a place for dinner. We passed Dimitris and thought about Greek food since we just got back from Greece a few months ago. However, over the years we get so disappointed in what locals call Greek food being "authentic" that we usually pass, or are disappointed, unless you are at a place like Kokarri in SF, for instance. Well I have to tell you this place just became of our new favorite "go-to" places. The food was tremendous. Multiple selections of Ouzo's, perfect dolma's, amazing lamb just like in Greece, great Pastitsio, perfect wines to go with the food and one of the best darn home made kataifi I have had outside of Greece as a birthday dish. We love Greece because of the people and we found the staff is really wonderful, just like being in Greece...helpful and friendly. We also had the chance to meet Demitri and talk about Greece and let my wife, who is learning the language practice a bit....what a wonderful owner and host. I was excited to visit Demitris Taverna for the first time recently while in the area for dinner! Arrived around 6:30pm on a weekday evening and it was a little difficult to find parking (which was expected) but the amazing experience I had here made it so worth it. My friend and I were welcomed and seated right away. The restaurant inside and outside was so beautiful and I loved the vibes. The waiter was very kind and friendly throughout the entire experience. We wanted to sit towards the back of the restaurant which he happily led us to and sat us at a nice table for two. The bread that was brought out before our order came was so good! For my meal, I tried the pasta and it was AMAZING. So flavorful and delicious, and filling. I absolutely loved this so much that I plan to order it again next time! If I could give it more stars I would! This is my daughters favorite place downtown. We have celebrated her birthday here since she was 8 years old. This year we celebrated her 19th! My family that said they couldn't make it ended up showing up and they made it work for us. We had a party of 26!!! Our servers Gavin & Marina teamed up and took care of all of us. No missed low drinks lots of super juice refills, beers and prosecco's! All orders came out correct and everyone like always was very pleased with their meals. Pretty sure we ordered 75% of the menu. The servers even cut up the cake for us and sang along. My only complaint is the seating was odd, we were right in front of the kitchen and in the area where the employees mill around due to the POS and kitchen being right there. While I enjoyed not having patrons so near by, it would have been nicer to have a more private spot. The tiziki was very thick, I have never had it that way, but I enjoyed it. Excellent! Demitris Taverna is epitome of great food & service. To start off the restaurant was extremely busy on a Friday night but that didn't negatively effect their service at all. If anything I think they thrived in it! We were immediately greeted and put down on the wait list. The wait was about 10-15 minutes, which wasn't bad considering how busy it was. We ordered the house spreads and olives for appetizer, Yia Yia's veggie pie, and gyro platter. The servings are big! We both had leftovers for lunch the next day. I absolutely LOVED Yia Yia's veggie pie...it melted in my mouth! It was delicious. Highly recommend everything I ordered. Overall, the staff was very friendly and helpful. Which is very hard to come by these days. I'm big on customer service and feel that most places no longer have customer service as a core value. This establishment reminded me that not all hope is lost. Thank you for being so kind and hospitable. Food is 10/10! I thoroughly enjoyed all of it. I recommend you visit Demitris! Started Mother's Day weekend right with a lovely dinner at Dimitri's. It was our first time here, but we were lucky to book an outdoor table with little wait. The ambiance was very inviting outside in the sunshine compared to inside which felt a little cold. Our waitress was friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu and gave great recommendations. We started with the lamb lollipops and pita bread with hummus. The lamb was cooked perfectly at medium and was tender, juicy and delicious. Our family ordered the lamb chops, the biktek, and dolmas and yes, more lamb lollipops! The lamb chops were just as delicious as the lollipops and the bifteki was a hit. Having the dolmas with the Avgolemono sauce is a must! Speaking of sauce, the tzatziki sauce was one of the best ones I've ever had. The food paired perfectly with Mythos, Greek beer. To top it off, the waitress surprised my son with delicate and sweet baklavas for dessert with a birthday candle and song. Towards the end, it seemed to get busy with not much staff to match the volume. Our waitress was running around working hard, which delayed our closing of the bill (was headed to the movies after). This restaurant has played an elaborate ruse, having convinced Livermore that what it serves is good Greek food. Maybe my bad experience was just bad luck, but it's tough to put faith in a Mediterranean place that can't even slap together a decent gyro. I ordered a gyro (via Doordash, so take that into account) and asked for tzatziki as well. I didn't expect my gyro to be covered in a quarter cup of sauce. I spent the first bit of my meal scraping off the exorbitant excess. To add insult to injury, the tzatziki was devoid of any herbs or flavor other than overwhelming garlic. The meat was unremarkable. But the gyro had basically nothing else in it, just meat, a few wispy strands of sauce-laden red onion, and crudely chopped tomato. (P.S.: a restaurant that can't cut its veg evenly is a red flag!) I can only imagine that this restaurant has continued to exist due to its prime location downtown and, perhaps, a general lack of awareness of what decent gyro actually tastes like. read more
