    Katsu curry with rice

===TL;DR=== - Tonkatsu katsu donburi ===TMI=== If you love Japanese curry, this spot in the east bay is pretty good for what you get. They're located inside the food hall. They might be easy to miss so don't make the same mistake I did going in circles trying to find this place! I forgot if I chose level 2 or level 3 spicy but it was just right for me (maybe it was level 2). Don't let the meal deceive you as it lunch look plain but every bite was satisfying. Katsu, rice, scoop of curry.

Got a Katsu Donburi to go from Demiya. Normally I get the katsu curry, but felt adventurous today. I should have gone with the usual. Maybe it would've been better eaten at the communal dining area, but I didn't. The egg was overcooked with undercooked mushrooms and too large pieces of onions. The katsu was sandwiched between the steam rice and egg so it lost the crispiness. The crew at the stall was closing up but were nice and friendly when I came to pick up. I asked for utensils and I got both chopsticks and spoon and fork. The stall is inside a public eatery with lots of other restaurant stalls.

Honestly, for a restaurant in a food court, I'm shocked by how good this is. Demiya has your classic Japanese curry, with fried katsu that's crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. In addition the katsu curry, there's also curry udon, featuring thick udon noodles mixed with Japanese curry. While the veggies are a bit on the firmer side, overall, this is a really solid spot to grab dinner if you're in the mood for Japanese comfort food. Definitely will be back again!

Authentic delicious Japanese comfort food. Tried this spot for the first time, I believe it's new at the public market. The katsu curry is absolutely umami packed house made curry. The curry is rich and super flavorful. Many restaurants use S&B mix, but this is for sure authentic house made. The katsu is chicken breast, although delicious and perfectly fried, I prefer dark meat for katsu. The chicken karaage had deep marinated flavor and crispy. Overall, authentic and better than most karaage that I've tried. Overall, I give it a 4.5, not a 5 due to the katsu being breast and breading was not the best of the best.

I am unfamiliar with Yoshoku but what I tried here stands on its own. We were at the opening of the Emeryville Art Exhibition and popped over to Public Market for a bite to eat. I went somewhere else while hubby ordered here. He ordered the Beef Shabu-Shabu Curry Rice Level 2 (spicy) but when the called his name only to say they were actually out of what he wanted. They offered the Tori Curry Rice (stewed chicken) as he did not want a deep-fried protein. For the inconvenience, they gave him a side of pickled and mixed spinach into the stew. I had a taste and it was delicious. Fast forward to last night. After grocery shopping I didn't feel like making dinner so we headed to Demiya. Waited our turn to order at the computer. There were two or three people working behind the counter in the kitchen area. Again, they were out of the Beef Shabu-Shabu so we opted for the Buta-Shabu Curry Rice (spicy). The portion was generous and I was happy we decided to share or we would each have had leftovers. We still had room for dessert at another stall but decided to pass. So yeah, I am a fan of their curry rice. Not too crazy about having to tap my order at the computer and they only have one. If you are behind a slow poke like me, it might be a bit of a wait. Also wish there was another table near the front of their stall and the vegan Mexican restaurant beside it. Their food sounds delish, too.

Demiya recently opened in the vacated unit between Super Duper Burgers & Alma Y Sazon. Any decor was limited to the food stall. D. Specializes in Yoshoku, a "style of Western-influenced Japanese cuisine that originated in late 19th Century & early 20th Century". European dishes were modified to Japanese tastes using local Ingredients & cooking techniques. Offerings (Yoshoku): Teishoku, curry udon, udon/rice bowl, ala carte, curry rice, curry doria, toppings. Bites: Omurice (17.50) ready in 9 minutes -staffed by 3 amigos who worked courteously, efficiently with a smile. -saw dish in "Parasite"-picture of the year. Wanted to try. Wasn't anything fancy. Basic deliz comfort food. -came with a fresh salad of red & white cabbage, Red bell peppers, minimal dressing. Yum! -basically a thin layer of velvety, smooth omelette placed over scoops of chicken fried rice reasoned with dashi & other condiments. Included are chicken morsels & sliced sausage. Some tomato sauce is mixed with the rice and surrounds the entirety of the main dish. *fab comfort food, each bite fresh & tasty. Dipped some fried rice, omelette into tomato sauce for more flava. **this is 5th location. Each opening brings more offerings. 5 stars: Worthy! Quantity: reasonable, had leftovers Quality: Excellent-minimal use of seasonings, no sodium excess. -in Public Market Food Hall

I've been wanting to come here for quite some time now and finally had a chance to try their Omurice. I am a big fan of Omurice and this establishment made it quite well with a nice display of veggies and a clean tasting demi-glace around the egg. The fried rice underneath the fluffy and runny omelet was very good as well. Meat and ketchup, but more sophisticated. It can get bit pricey if you add on a bunch of extras like I did, but it was well worth it! The shrimp tempura and the beef croquette were a great addition to the meal and complemented it quite well. The croquette was crunchy on the outside and filled with a light fluffy potato mixture with chunks of ground beef inside. Next time I might order 2 of them for the snack on the way back across the bridge! It was a 1 woman show during dinner time and she had the whole situation under control. I received my order within 10 minutes after ordering on their kiosk. Plenty of seating inside because it is located in the public market. Parking was quite easy because of the lot nearby. The restaurant is located right next to Super Duper Burgers. My only wish is that they had a Demiya in the city!

With the slew of vacant booths at Emeryville Public Market, it's always exciting when a new restaurant open up. Demiya is currently in the soft opening phase. My wife and I shared their omurice and we both loved the dish. For around $16, it's priced competitively with other entree options at other stalls at the public market. The tornado egg on top was perfectly cooked and paired nicely with the rich demi-glace over a bed of fluffy rice. The sauce has a wonderful sweetness to it that's not overpowering. For those looking for more protein focused entrees available -- like the pork and chicken katsu, those fan favorites are available here as well. Definitely hoping to try those out on my next visit at Demiya.

Came here on a Tuesday afternoon, and boy was I glad to come here. A little difficult to find on the corner of a strip mall. I would recommend better signage especially for newbies like me. The restaurant is smaller, but come early. We came at 1130, and in a few minutes a lunch crowd came probably from the surrounding companies nearby. My friend had the tonkatsu and I had the mapo tofu. Excellent flavor. Very mild in the curry sauce. Would highly recommend this restaurant!

Curry Doria- eggplant & vegetables, chicken karaage, soft shell crab

It's so exciting when the public market gets a new food stall & this one is definitely different from the rest! It's difficult to find this kind of japanese food, so i'm very happy with this addition! They are still operating during the soft opening, so pls be patient! I ordered the soft shell crab katsu, curry doria eggplant, and corn cheese butter. it was towards the end of the day and they didn't have any corn and one of the employees were kind enough to replace it with chicken karaage :) Both fried dishes had a good crisp to it and the chicken karaage was juicy on the inside! dips were okay and wish it had more flavor. Now for the curry doria, 20 dollars for this huge dish is insane, I could probably eat this for the next 3 days. It was steaming hot, but so so so delicious! The cheese and curry combination was something I didn't know I would love! It does take 20 mins to bake, so take that into consideration. Staff were great & friendly and I can't wait when they have their full menu available!

Delicious curry rice spot newly opened in the Emeryville Public Market, gotta say it is the best addition in recent years. We are now regularly coming back and look forward to seeing potentially new appetizers become available.

    Curry tonkatsu with white rice
    Juicke C.

I'm always on for anything curry. I'm been to one in Dublin, not certain if there's any affiliation but they have similar name and menu. So I opt for the curry tonkatsu with white rice, though the fried burger dish sounds interesting and takes 20 minutes to prepare. My tonkatsu took a while to be delivered to my table on the public market dining area. The curry wasn't as sweet as other curry ie Thai, Chinese, etc. it had a more harsh bitter taste which is fine and served aside to the rice and tonkatsu. Somehow not the same experience as with the Dublin storefront but nice to have on this side of the east bay.

Located inside the emeryville public market, it is close by super duper burger. You order and pay at the counter and wait for your number to be called. There are plenty of seating around the market so find a spot to eat is not difficult. I ordered the tonkatsu curry -spice level 2 and it was not comparable to the other locations. It was not very hot in temperature and the curry tasted off. The tonkatsu was freshly fried and crispy which saved the dish. I would not recommend this Demiya and would make the trek out to the other ones in the Bay Area.

Very tiny spot and not much seating, so you're either taking it to go or you're praying there's a chair and a counter that's free. No big deal since I've been to other Japanese curry places like this. I've had a mix bag where the katsu was deliciously crispy and moist on the inside and days where the meat inside is dry, even drenched in curry. Hot curry sauce is Japanese hot, so it has spices in it but not spicy at all. The workers do their best for the lunch rush, so that's a plus at least. I had my eye on the sandos, specifically the Chicken Katsu Sando, but landed on the Spicy Tuna Don instead. Good call. Spicy yellowfin tuna tartare over well-seasoned sushi rice, topped with sesame, furikake, green onions, with a little radish and cucumber on the side. The tuna was very fresh, the rice was on point. Service was quick and polite - they even have an outside window for takeout.
