First time I came to demiya, it was disappointing since they didn't make the eggs right and extremely overcooked. And the sauce was horrid because they use too much worcestershire sauce so it was so sour. Even after a year I can still remember how it tastes. Today I decided to give them another try because I saw someone's ordered came out and it looks right. After the first bite I am definitely had to do an update review, the eggs came out right and so fluffy. Chicken Katsu Curry (+fukujinzuke or Japanese pickles): deep-fried chicken cutlet served with curry and steamed rice (3/5). The chicken was breast meat, so it was a tad dry. But the curry was flavorful and rich. Tonkatsu Curry Rice (+fukujinzuke or Japanese pickles): deep-fried pork cutlet served with curry and steamed rice (4/5). The food doesn't taste right, the service is awful by these two tall guys (maybe brothers) that acted like they didn't wanna be there always sitting down and not appreciating the customer who is ordering. I been to know not only this location but also the one up in Walnut Creek area and that was also a bad experience with undercooked food when I sent it back the cook threw it back in the fryer and then ate it. The Fremont location is really good. The katsu came out super crispy and delicious. The rice was cooked well and the udon was just enough. The portions looked sizable but ended up being a lot of food. It is a bit pricy for lunch, $20/dish with add ons. This stall is inside a grocery store but the noise level wasn't that loud. I got the Tonkatsu curry rice and i loved how perfectly crispy the cuts were!! The curry itself was really tasty and I got Level 3 (out of 3), the spiciest and it had a little kick. (I'm good with my spice so I preferred more spicy) One downside was the pork cuts having a lot of fat content. A lot of pieces had mostly fat. Not sure if it was just the meal I got of if it's like that all the time. Would prefer more lean meat than fat or it feels pretty greasy. As for pickup, the two workers are always having their back turned from customers and facing cooking equipment. I suggest to them that they need a mirror or camera to view the store front so customers like me don't have to wait 5-10 minutes before picking up my to-go meal. Menu has many appetizing choices including special ones that costs about $10. Tonkatsu with curry sauce was my order. Surprisingly, very good. This is more of like a togo location ad there is very limited seating room if its a busy day. Luckily we lucked out and were able to get some seats behind where you order. Our order took a little extra than it normally would and the dude cooking recognized that by giving us an extra helping of Chicken Katsu which we graciously accepted. Super happy demiya open in fremont, but is true that this isn't as good as the one in san jose. On one hand is expected as it is inside a ranch 99 food court, on the other hand the price isn't cheap either. They key difference I see is the katie is always a bit "darker", which mean either the oil use isn't as fresh or they over fried it. The food still tastes good. When I ask for the brown sauce for the katsu, the guy said they charge $1 extra, but he did gave it to me for free at the end. I would think katsu should come with brown sauce, even if it is a curry udon. I don't know does ranch 99 food court rent charges a lot or what, but I feel like some of these extra charges is a bit much for food court. After trying the brown sauce, I sorta get it, as it is not your run of the mill bulldog sauce, taste better and look made in house, I get it if it is extra if you want more, but at least come with a single portion. read more

I will say that I went with the expectation of it being a sit down restaurant but it's not. It's in a food hall of 99 Ranch, which isn't a problem. However, it was very self service with just two workers who often have their back turned so we would have to wait for them to turn a bit to catch their attention. Even resetting my expectations, the food was just not great. We ordered the beef shabu curry rice which didn't have much meat. Fortunately, we figured that might be the case so ordered the pork katsu on the side, but that did not taste right. It was rubbery? Potentially was frozen. Located inside Ranch 99. I've never been here but I like that they have onigis ready to order. You don't have to wait for them to make it. About $4 each. My only complaint is that instead of the classic triangle shape this is a hand roll so opening it was a challenge. They put a sticker over the "1 tab" for when you need to pull to get the removal going so the flavor sticker was blocking it. You have to peel off the sticker first and then pull the "1 tab" all the way through and then "tab 2 and 3" pull to the side. It's also wrapped completely but for some reason a few contents spilled out so be careful! Also, the label on what I ordered wasn't what was actually inside. I thought I got miso beef but when I took a bite it was actually unagi. I confirmed with the worker that there indeed was an error. It didn't bother me since I was down to try any flavor but just a warning if you have any specific allergies or picky with certain seafood. I know you can't really tell or check when it's packaged up but easier to notice when you're unraveling the wrapper. There's a counter all around their kitchen where you can sit or tables in the food court. The workers were very nice! I'd come back to try more of their food. read more

I try to call ahead to see if I can get a replacement before driving 10 mins. But phone number they have don't work or mail box is full. So I went ahead a drive there and arrive to get it replace, they just toke my food and told me 5 mins. So I waited 10 and yet the replacement is not ready...... I just wasted 30 mins of my lunch time not eating lunch at all......and the price isn't cheap already. Please we don't have much curry place around already and the menchi is good too. Demiya has been (and still is) one of my favorite Japanese curry spots in the S.F. Bay Area, and I'm glad that the Fremont location opened so it's now a 15 minute drive rather than 30+. It's a little hidden in the food court of Ranch 99, but that makes it convenient to sit down for a meal and then get groceries afterwards (as they say, never shop hungry haha.) Personally, I rotate between the chicken katsu curry rice, the menchi katsu curry rice, and the vegetable curry! It's not a Kanazawa style curry - it's not as thick, and has a more complex mix of flavors (in my opinion), which means you don't get tired of it. The fried toppings have been consistently juicy, and the price is very amenable as well! Service is decently fast, and overall is a good choice when you need a quick meal out! (The onigiris are also good for a snack at home too. I've taken to getting one or two now and then to enjoy later) read more

I got the beef miso & unagi onigiri, along with a beef & potato croquette. The onigiri was unique and had some added garnishes on the rice. I thought it was ok, but my son preferred it to not have those extra garnishes, which I totally understand because it added an after taste to it. In the middle of busy food court inside ranch 99, you cant miss it. I've tried most things on the menu, "except for udons", (i usually get rice dishes and add my own udons to the leftover sauce), all were great.
