This place is chefs kiss! This is by far one of my favorite sushi spots and i really love the fact they close late too! The seating is spacious and the workers are really friendly. I always get 3 rolls, the mj roll, lion king roll, t.s roll, and they are so fire. The rolls melt in your mouth, it's soft, crunchy, flavorful, it's just chefs kiss. However, the sizing of the rolls got smaller from the past times i have came which made me bummed out. I am a big back and of course i love my sushi to be fat but the past couple of times i have come, they are smaller. Still tastes great but still unfortunate. Was able to eat here for dinner tonight. Was seated quickly and I was surprised at how quickly the food was all served! Service was also great, everyone was really nice and we were frequently checked on. The food was also good and I saw a walnut shrimp roll I'd like to try in the future. My one major complaint was about ambiance. The restaurant still has Christmas and Halloween decorations up and it's May. Also they have somewhat chaotic audio playing that doesn't match the videos on the screen and is pretty loud so it's a little hard to talk. I also believe that presentation of the food is lacking. Stopped by on a Saturday night and got seated right away. There's a lot of seating and it was about 80% full. Service is quick...both for ordering and for food coming out. We ordered: Gyoza (5/5) - it had a golden crisp on the outside and the filling was good too. Honey Walnut Roll (5/5) - the honey walnut sauce and house special size was the perfect combo! The shrimp tempura was delicious and the actual honey walnuts added a nice crunch. Philadelphia Roll (4/5) - salmon was very fresh Lion King Roll (4/5) - salmon was very good in this roll too. Had an amazing experience at MJ Sushi! I ordered the Hamachi Mango Roll and the Unagi Avocado Roll, and both were absolutely perfect. Sooooooo I'm new to the amazingness that is MJ Sushi on the Bay Area. This is the 3rd location I'm trying (El Camino & San Mateo) and they all never disappoint!! Best quality sushi I've experienced in the Bay Area and honestly Top 3 overall period. Had some issues ordering online for pick up which resulted in me placing 2 orders....and o wasn't even made at it because it's delicious!!! Well this was a shitty experience, I walked into the restaurant alone, I was seated right away and then ignored for the next 15 minutes. Long story short I did not get served and once someone finally acknowledged that I was there I explained to them the situation about how I had been sitting there for 15 minutes and watched the tables around get service and not one waitress came to my table. Great, affordable sushi spot serving up fresh sushi. Most of their rolls dress up the basic California roll, so it's definitely not higher end sushi. Our favorite roll is the fireworks roll. MJ Sushi is tucked away in a small strip plaza in Fremont and it's become one of my go-tos for reasonably priced and delicious sushi rolls. This place is open till midnight, has incredibly friendly and fast service, and plenty of parking outside. Plus, they even give you free ice cream at the end of your meal! Service is fast did I mention that? My orders come out within 5-10 minutes and if you're in a group, they put all your rolls on the same plate. I typically get the MJ roll, which has eel tempura, cucumber, and salmon on the inside, topped with mangoes, and also topped with tempura flakes. Offerings (usual sushi items): starters, soup & salad, sake & beer, teriyaki, nigiri & sashimi, sashimi combos, house special/classic/veggie/hand rolls. Sips: ramune (comped) -Japanese soft drink in fancy bottle. Less sugary. Bites: deluxe chirashi (35.99), chirashi (22.99) -came out in 10ish minutes. Looked identical but for a strand of uni, a few slices O-toro, & 20ish ikura eggs. Hamachi, salmon, albacore & tuna in both. Sushi rice underneath was warm. A first! -ikura was literally popping, salty. O-toro bland, uni was singularly not noticeable nor taste worthy. -regular sashimi was bland, watery, not melt in mouth, not room temperature fresh nor refrigerator fresh. 2.5 stars not worthy..food meh. Service was prompt and friendly. It felt like we got our rolls literally 5 minutes after ordering which was super impressive haha. I am devastated to write this update but after three bad trips in a row I have to say the fish quality here has gone way, way down. The salmon is tasting more frozen and poorly thawed every time I order instead of the fresh firm salmon with lots of flavor I got used to from here. We have also gotten uni that tastes so horrible and rotten the last three times that we had to ask DoorDash for a refund because I didn't feel safe eating it. The last time we ordered from here I did order the sashimi special and I'm not sure what one of the cuts was but it tasted like soap. I think someone washed their hands and didn't rinse them off well enough and then they handled the fish or maybe the container the fish was in wasn't rinsed properly. I'm still leaving 2 stars instead of 1 because I haven't had a special roll from here in a while but the last time I did a few months ago it was good so I'm leaving the extra star with the hope that those are still okay. They have really great pricing for the food you get! 2 rolls and 1 entree dinner (including 1 soda and 1 beer) was only $51 total. Their salmon teriyaki gets a nice crispy outside which I love. They also have a nice touch of allowing everyone to help themselves to a little soft serve (vanilla, chocolate or swirl) at the end of the meal. We have visited MJ Sushi once for a sit down meal and once for a to-go order. Both times I really enjoyed the food and felt like the quality didn't change. The only thing that I noticed when dining there is that they give salads in their plastic to-go containers even when you sit down to eat and also their drinks come in plastic clear cups - both of which seemed wasteful or lazy for less dishes. They also didn't provide a cup of ice for the soda which meant the drink didn't stay cold for the entire meal. My family and friends got to try out MJ Sushi as a recommendation from a friend! We were a group of 10 that was seated quickly upon arrival. The staff was helpful and kind; they offered recommendations on what was fresh for that day when we asked for advice on what to order. For me and my partner, I ordered a Dragon Roll, Baked Scallop Roll, Soft Shell Crab, and Miso Soup. Judging from the food that everyone got, I will say that the portions are a bit small considering their price. While the rolls were small, I will say that they were still really tasty and satisfied the craving I had for sushi. I do wish they were more full and came with two more rolls in the batch, but definitely still good! I've always wanted to try soft shell crab and it was a good experience eating it. The miso soup was pretty standard. As a testament to the staff's kindness, they offered us all ice cream on the house! This review is way overdue, and I say that because I probably come here at least once a week. Sometimes even two to three times a week since last year! I'd still consider myself pretty new to sushi or at least not super adventurous with it, but I've definitely found my favorites at this spot. I'd say I'm a regular now because I always order the same thing, and the staff even knows my order by heart at this point, hahaha! As soon as you walk in, the restaurant feels really open and welcoming. They close late, which I love, and the staff is always super friendly and very attentive. Bathrooms are always clean too. It can get a little busy on some nights, but on weekday nights it's usually calm and quiet. My partner and I always start with miso soup, Sapporo and Asahi, fried calamari, and a spider roll with no cucumber. He switches it up sometimes and likes to try different things from the menu, but we haven't had anything we didn't like here. Their raw fish, like the sashimi, is always fresh. The presentation is clean, simple, and super appealing. The quality of the food is always consistent and everything tastes amazing every time.
