Wow I didn't realize this place has changed hands and new owner for the past year or more. I used to come here years ago with my family. Glad tgst we decided to come here today. I was definitely in for a surprise with the wide selection of plant-based options available. Just the tofu alone they have 4-6 different dishes to try out. We ordered their tofu soup, a ramen, falling tofu as appetizer and kimchi pancake. More than enough to feed the two of us but I couldn't help ordering with the wide tantalizing varieties available. Their tofu is really fresh and you can tell it's homemade and their specialty as their tofu comes in black tofu, carrot tofu version in addition to the standard white version. I love how they provide the different types of tofu in my tofu ramen soup. The falling tofu was really good too. Slightly breaded, crisp on outside with soft tofu inside and the delicious (sweet and sour) sauce from the mushroom topping round up the dish perfectly. We were also surprise with their banchan that comes with a beef/meat side dish. Never seen that at other Korean restaurants before. Lastly the kimchi pancake has a good nice crispyness to the texture but could use more kimchi & stronger, bolder taste that I get from one of my other fav establishment in Milpitas. From the beginning of our visit, we specifically asked the staff if purple rice was available. We were told that it was not available, so we accepted the answer and ordered something else. However, later, we noticed that another customer was served purple rice. I have a photo that clearly shows this. This made us feel that the staff had not been honest or consistent with us. In addition, the staff were not friendly or helpful, and we did not feel that our concerns were taken seriously. Overall, the service was disappointing and made us feel unfairly treated. The pancake was really good - somehow still crispy on the outside while being quite thick and filled. The galbi was really tender too. The interior/everything is very clean, spacious, and well-lit. The spoons had covers and the chopsticks were very easy-open. Not too much attention during the meal ie. refills and water, but we had help for takeout boxes and complimentary dessert at the end. The our host was very kind and sweet. It's Christmas so I assume there's more servers usually. Banchan was plentiful and all very good! Comes with complimentary barley tea, you don't need to ask for it. The seafood pancake was very crispy yet fluffy inside, super good. Galbi was very tender and good flavor, and in the galbi + soup combo they put a lot of pieces, AND the combo costs less so it totally beats out the competition in Fremont! The purple rice that comes with it was a little too soft for my style. I got the stone pot beef bibimbap and loved the crispy rice and how there's a lot of veggies. Marinated sirloin was pretty tasty and though this dish has less meat it's very filling. I just didn't like how there's bottom had a ton of oil to make the rice crispy - if health conscious, choose the bibimbap without the stone pot! Nothing was seasoned too salty or too spicy, they were perfect even down to the banchan. The mild tofu soup is not spicy at all, according to my very spice-sensitive mother. And the seafood tofu soup has a good amount of seafood. We only sat for ~10 minutes, banchan came out in another 10 minutes and the last item, the stone pot, came in another 10 minutes. Coming here, I feel like this place is a serious sleeper. I got in, realized that there's literally no one here eating besides the servers for lunch. The inside has a modern look to it. It's clean and has four ceiling fans running, now that's uncommon in any Asian restaurants don't you think? It's a tofu house so I ordered their pork tofu soup. The tofu is really soft and tasted slightly different then other tofu soups found elsewhere. Their appetizer had some fried tofu sticks to them. I was very surprised and they seemed to be breaded inhouse rather then what you would find in supermarkets. They have a soft crunch to them, so good that I actually asked if they sold them to go? The service itself is mediocre but the food is great. Again, it may look expensive but it is a lot of food. I have been twice since they reopened under new management and both times it has been great. Here is what we had: Galbi and tofu soup: can actually feed two people, nice tender meat with really good flavor and the combo tofu soup was delicious and really filling too Tofu cheese ball: it is very interesting, I actually likes it but it has a specific texture of crunchy outside, to mushy inside then cheesy in the middle. Veggie pancake: this was ok. My family liked it but I am more into the pancakes that are not very doughey Stone pot Bulgogi bibimbap: just like the regular one but has nice crispy rice at the bottom of the stone pot. I came in again for a tofu soup. I was feeling eating more vegetable this day so ordered a tofu soup with vegetables. After it came to the table I noticed the broth was bland so I asked to make sure it was still served with regular broth (and not vegetable broth). Wow haven't been here in over a year and the menu and restaurant have been updated! It's more modern inside with lots of seating, and the menu has a lot more variety. The service was super quick and there's a button to call the server. They have great side dishes and offered a free tofu one. The seafood pancake is a must. As for the pork bone soup it's a bit on the plainer side, but that's expected and it comes with seasoning on the side. My friends for some of the other soups but those were on the saltier side so need the free rice it comes with. All of the soups are great for the cold weather! TL;DR: friendly spot with comforting Korean food but prices were high for where it is Mom's tofu house has had a recent facelift, I noticed that they were closed for a bit and have since reopened with a brand new, bright and airy interior. Service is friendly and you can call for service whenever you need it with the handy button on the table. The menu is pretty extensive, with most of the classics you can imagine. From the signs on the wall, they make their own tofu for the restaurant but I was interested in the pork soup since you don't see it at too many places. Pork soup: this was served with purple rice on the side, as well as chives, chilli paste and salt. The soup was pretty flavorful already so I didn't really need the salt, and warm and comforting and quite rich. I was surprised that the meat in there was pork belly, I thought it might be a different, more meaty cut like shoulder. Nevertheless, this was yummy. Spicy pork stone pot: everyone loves a good stone pot with the crispy rice! They had oiled this pot well so the crispy rice came off easy and was delicious with all the crunchy vegetables and spicy pork. The banchan provided was ok - they had fishcake, soy sauce onions, bean sprouts, some green vegetable, and 2 kinds of kimchi (Napa and radish). Honestly the food was pretty good and I would go back if the prices were lower. But for at least $20 per entree, I found the spot quite pricy especially since there are many more affordable options in the area. read more

This is one of my fave Korean spots in the bay. The vibes are cozy, like a diner and the food is so comforting, especially on a cold day. I love that they have the potato dish in the banchan, which not every place has. We usually split soft tofu soup here and get some meat dishes. Today we tried the katsu cutlet which was amazing. Service was exceptional. Our waitress was so kind and friendly, and brought our food so quickly since we had young children with us. To summarize, 5/5 for service, 4/5 for food, and 3/5 for price & value (it's REALLy expensive here, $24 for pork bone soup, $20+ for bibambap, and $90 for galbijjim). I thought my bulgolgi rice cake dish was ok, there wasn't that much meat and way too much black pepper. The house-made tofu also unfortunately tasted pretty bland, so I was a bit disappointed that it cost $18. *warning - long review ahead* Food was average at best, but the crap customer service is what brought me to leave a review after my dining experience tonight. After getting seated, the lady who took our order was tall-ish, slender, with reddish pixie-like haircut. My partner and I ordered 3 items exactly in this order: galbitang, budae jigae, and seafood pancake. Our server even REPEATED each item as she entered our order on her tablet. The seafood pancake came out first and then my partner's budae jigae came out not too long after. I still didn't get my galbitang yet but I noticed the ahjumma servers were frantically setting up several tables (preloading with banchan, soup, bibimbap) for a very large party (6-7 tables) that was expected to walk in soon. I gave them grace so I decided to be more patient. Another 15 min passes by without a single server checking on us - and we pretty much finished all the seafood pancake and banchan, I noticed other parties who arrived after us already got their entrees whereas I still haven't received my galbitang. We flag down a different server (shorter lady with shoulder length wavy hair, seems to be one of the leads) and I inform her that I'm still waiting on my galbitang. You can tell she was surprised we were missing an item, but she apologized and said she was going to check on it. You can see and hear her exclaiming something to the other kitchen staff behind the counter - it was obvious that my order was missed/forgotten. Again, not a big deal, mistakes happen - wavy hair ahjumma came back and said they're working on it now. I got my galbitang maybe 5-10 min later. I assume the shoulder length hair ahjumma must've said something to (or maybe reprimanded?) the pixie hair ahjumma who originally took our order...because right when I was about to start eating my galbitang, pixie hair ahjumma comes up to our table. Her: You ordered the seafood pancake? Me: Yes Her: And you ordered the galbitang? Me: Yes Her: You did not order galbitang (*she shakes her head and legit scoffs at me*) Me: (*me staring at her perplexed*) Uh, yes I did! And then she walks away from our table. My partner and I stared at each other like wtf just happened. At first maybe I was misunderstanding the situation since she spoke broken English - but based on her demeanor and delivery of her words, there's really no other way it could've been interpreted it. I like to say I'm a fairly reasonable person. Even though they forgot my order, I didn't make a fuss of it (we're all human) and gave them the benefit of the doubt because of the huge party. Once I had my galbitang in front of me, I was chill and ready to dig in. But what PISSED me off was the pixie hair lady coming over 30 seconds later just to retort that we never ordered the galbitang (mind you - she never checked on our table after dropping off the banchan). Not only was that entire verbal exchange unnecessary (seriously - wtf was the point of that?)...we freaking ordered the galbitang FIRST! Even my partner confirmed that she repeated the word "galbitang" back to us while we were ordering. I pretty much lost my appetite and forced myself to finish my dish - which, by the way, happened to be one of the worst galbitangs I've had (meat was tough and soup was bland, and it didn't even come with a bowl of rice like other places provide). We paid our bill and couldn't get out of there fast enough. There's a sign outside that says "under new management" - I don't fully remember how the old management was since the last time I dined at Mom's was at least 4-5 years ago, but I can confidently say their new management is atrocious and I will NOT be returning to this establishment. Mom's tofu used to be my go-to Korean place in Fremont. It's been a few years since I've been here and I think it's unfortunately changed for the worse during the pandemic. My friends and I came on a weekend for dinner, expecting a bit of a wait. To our surprise, the restaurant was almost empty. Service was to the point, nothing much to say there. I ordered a pork hot stone bibimbap. The rice was nice and crispy but I feel like something in the toppings was too salty. After I added the gochujang sauce the dish overall became a bit too salty for me. My friend got a tofu soup but she was disappointed that it was watery and didn't come with an egg. The banchan don't taste as good as they used to. Namely the potatoes are sweeter than they used to be and the kimchi tasted off. With a decrease in taste and an increase in price, I think Mom's Tofu is somewhere I will just keep fondly in my thoughts from now on. read more

Went in for Memorial Day holiday lunch time. Everything was well prepared. Friendly service and ambiance and for lunch time it was relatively quiet which is perfect for me. Ordered appetizer tofu dish, stone pot with beef and spicy chicken. Overall the flavors were nice, nothing overly spiced or salted. I would say the spicy chicken is more like sweet and spicy. But the spice level is pretty mild. Assortment of banchan also comes with meal, and refillable . I wish I got the servers name so I could mention her. She was outstanding and the only one on the floor. It definitely got busier as we left. Will have to come back to try more dishes.
