Production dentist practice. In it to take as much of your insurance and your own money. I had a procedure that cost me $1800 on top of what my insurance covered. The procedure did not work. Dr. Rice stated that she wasn't sure if it would take, so suggested I do another procedure to get the area good for surgery, then she would do the surgery again, and charge me the full cost again! She admitted that "she knew the surgery wouldn't work" but chose to do it anyway, put me through 6 weeks of recovery, then tell me ill have to do it again, at full cost? Insane. After this appointment, she relentlessly called me to come back, with her doom and gloom script of how ill be in worse shape if I delay. She called over and over, even late at night. Then moved on to having her front office call multiple times. Each time I stated I am not interested. I was fortunate to receive treatment from Dr Rice in 2022 for a very advanced pocket which required laser surgery. Dr Rice and the team offered the best care and reassurance throughout my treatment and after care. I had been told by a different doctor that the tooth couldn't be saved and would need to be removed. 3 years later and I have just been for my dental check-up and been told that the gum area which was treated now scores 2-3mm which is an incredible improvement of 11mm after treatment. I loved most of my experience with Dr Rice and most of her staff hence the two stars. Dr. Rice was kind, compassionate and non-judge mental. Which is what you love from a fear driven meeting. She was great at explaining things to me. That experience as well as the young woman who did my xrays were amazing. The reason I write this review is to bring awareness not for any malicious intent to hurt this office. My experience with Melisa from the beginning was toxic. I had an appointment i couldn't make on time and had to call and reschedule, I totally received the most apathetic response and lack of interest for my business. Melissa explained to me how I will have to wait a long time to get a new appointment. Another young woman in the office overheard and called me back with a sooner appt. her name escapes me but she was kind and empathetic. I let the staff know that my last X-ray was about 3-4 years ago. I wasn't sure. They said no problem. ( keep this in mind, it will come back to the story later) After my check up, I received a treatment plan. The treatment plan was close to 10k. The treatment plan was discussed to me by Melissa. Again, very apathetic and not concerned about my financial worries about the amount. She asked me if I wanted to set a future spot I need to pay that amount now. I told her I needed time to think about it. Again, she said, appointments are booked and availability is limited. There was a lot of pressure there. I went to a second periodontist to get a second opinion and they were amazing from the time I walked in to the time I left. They spend a lot of time with me and I had no attitude from anyone. They needed a copy of my X-rays to get a treatment plan together. They called Dr. Rice office and they said it will be a $25 fee to fax it to them This was during thanksgiving break. I called after thanksgiving to pay the $25 to get my xrays and guess what, my insurance only covers x-rays every 5 years and I need to pay $125 for the x-rays to be released Melissa told me that someone should of told me the day of my appointment. Okay, im going to be real, Dr. Rice seems like an amazing periodontist and I have nothing negative to say about her, but her billing coordinator and the lack of empathy and concern. You are making a big investment by doing these treatments, the way things were handle from the beginning not only lost my business but my trust! I would never go back to a place who cheated me of my x-rays by not doing their due diligence. Were petty when I wanted to get a second opinion and who pressure me to pay ahead just to schedule another appointment. It pains me to write this negative review, but my intent is to bring awareness to Dr. Rice and prospective clients to the operation side and the lack of profesional handling. Ps: the second place quoted me less, did better check ups and gave me the x-rays for free due to my experience with Dr. Rice's office. If I had only one word to describe this practice I would say thirsty. Thirsty. Parched. Desperate. I was in the office on August 29, 2022 for a consultation - crown broke and the abutment was stuck to my implant. The appointment started weirdly with the doctor commenting on my TB status. I had TB as a child and she wanted me to describe "my circumstances at the time." As I have not had active TB in almost 40 years it was a stretch, inappropriate and offensive. The second problem was her inability to refer to me by my name. At almost 50 years old pls do not refer to me as sweetie or honey. It came off as condescending. I decided not to have Dr. Rice fix my problem. I was coming in for a consultation and the push to do the work there or even just switch dental practices for my regular four month cleanings made me uncomfortable. When her office followed up with me the next week I told them this. When they followed up six weeks later I told them again. When they followed up three months later I let them know I had gotten it taken care of. Four weeks ago I received a personal voicemail from Dr. Rice 'just following up.' The final straw leading to this review besides the constant emails even though I keep unsubscribing is a bill that just arrived with a 'past due' amount of $79 dated March 2023! I paid for the consultation $80 in August of 2022 at that one and only visit. This is completely unethical and if they don't remove the erroneous charge I'm filing a complaint with the Dental Board of California - breeze.ca.gov and I highly encourage anyone who has received sketchy service and phantom charges to do the same. read more

I was referred to Dr. Rice by my dentist in order to have a procedure done that is not available at my dental office. I met with her at my dentist's office first and she briefly but thoroughly explained what she would be doing for me and why it was necessary. Fortunately, she was able to see me immediately. Her office is in the same complex as my dentist so I walked over and was introduced to the front office staff. They were all extremely nice and very professional. All documents were explained in detail as well as the procedure itself and they made sure I understood everything and took time to answer any questions. I think we can all agree that most folks don't enjoy any type of dental work. Dr. Rice and her staff make you feel so at ease. I had very little discomfort and almost no pain considering what needed to be done. Don't let the photo fool you (I do NOT photograph well). While we've had insurance "issues," the office was extraordinarily helpful in guiding me to get reimbursement - and eventually they paid like they were supposed to.
