I never felt rushed during my visits and I felt like my homework assignments were exactly what I needed. I went in for a pinched nerve on my C4-C5 (cervical spine) with an external referral from my physical medicine doctor at PAMF. I noticed very soon that the personalized care and attention I had received from Denise was something that not many PT clinics do these days (and certainly not any of the clinics associated with the big hospitals). She was kind enough to not only treat my condition through directed massages, suction therapy and stretching/pilates routines, but also engaged with my personal trainer to ensure that I got the right kind of workouts. At this time, my pain has all but gone away and (more importantly) I got into the habit of doing my PT routines everyday for long-term wellness and pain management. My urologist referred me to Denise Alberto, telling me that PT would be a good idea in addition to the (expensive) medication she'd prescribed for me. I was reluctant, but I am SO happy that I got in touch with Denise. We spent much of our first appointment talking about my problem, what I'd tried, and then she did some manual therapy, showed me some exercises, talked me through how to do Kegels, and gave me homework - exercises to do daily, and changes to the way I sit. She said we'd only need six sessions, which I found hard to believe. I did the exercises, and my symptoms were noticeably better by the next week. She modified the exercises some and gave me more homework; she also encouraged me to improve my computer ergonomics (it was easy - just move my monitor a few inches!). The third appointment found me even better - she did less manual therapy and more teaching. I had my sixth and final appointment this week; I am still doing the homework, and my symptoms are almost completely gone. I am phasing out the medication (with my urologist's agreement). I even walk taller! I can't tell you how happy I am to have been referred to Denise; she cared about me and treated me as a whole person, not just a pelvic floor problem. For years I've had issues with tight hips and have always managed to compensate and work around these restrictions while training. However when I started ballroom dancing, I ran into these restrictions and they prevented me from applying proper technique. Denise has been amazing for my prenatal and postpartum experiences. I started going to her at 35 weeks to help prepare for labor. TL;DR I had a very smooth, quick labor and delivery as a first time mom and only one 1st degree tear that did not require stitches. Denise is one big reason as to why I had such a positive birth experience. The majority of our time was spent with internal massages to help alleviate tension around ligaments etc. and she coached me on how to properly breathe and push. She also taught my husband how to do some of the massage techniques. As I said, I had a really smooth labor and delivery (with pushing totaling about 30 minutes) and I don't think my body would have been prepared or relaxed enough without her. Now, I'm 7 weeks postpartum. I had one visit at 5 weeks postpartum where she massaged my organs/stomach to help move them back into position, along with an external check of the pelvis/hips and an internal check. This sounds so simple, but really Denise is so knowledgeable and thorough and helped me release pain and tension I didn't even realize I was carrying. I plan on continuing to see her for overall pelvic health and any other issues that come up, as well as future pregnancies. The cherry on top is that she's hilarious and wonderful to talk with. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Alex Blefari. I was recommended to her after my C section and subsequent injuries by my OB. Alex went above and beyond at every appointment to make sure I was comfortable and all my concerns were addressed. Her professionalism and bedside manner are incredible. After my last session my injuries were almost completely better, my c section scar was no longer as sensitive and I was able to resume exercises again. I went to her solve some long standing issues with my low back and pelvis from more than a decade of triathlon endurance training. Alex is amazing! Compassionate, extremely knowledgable and one of the best medical professionals I've experienced as a patient. I had a few niggling issues that were starting to bother me as me pregnancy progressed, potential complications from prior surgery and other new mothers told me they wished they'd seen a Pelvic Floor PT prior to giving birth instead of postpartum. After getting a bunch of different referrals for PTs I decided to finally contact Denise. I'd been procrastinating, was really starting to be in pain and wanted to see someone fast. She responded while she was on vacation was able to book me in with Alex immediately and made sure to check in on my progress after the early appointments. From my very first appointment it was clear Alex was going to do everything in her power to get rid of my pain, prepare me for birth and be ready for me after. She made me feel safe, comfortable and confident, all while a pandemic was raging and almost everyone was still working from home. I am a male physical therapist in my 60's and I can tell you that Denise is one of the most skilled PT's I have ever worked with. It's not just her very high-level skills that are impressive, but also her compassion and ease with which she discusses things that can otherwise be quite uncomfortable. I noticed most of the reviews for Denise are women with pelvic floor issues. I want to make sure that people know men have pelvic floor problems as well. Mine were not so much pain as bowel and bladder spasms that would have me up numerous times at night. It also gave me urinary urgency that was very uncomfortable and at times embarrassing. I've had four sessions so far with Denise and I am getting up no more than once a night and the urgency and spasms have calmed down to a very manageable level. She is teaching me ways to treat myself which will maintain the gains I have made in my PT sessions. Many doctors, even urologists seem to think that an enlarged prostate in older men will inevitably cause all sorts of bladder problems. Their main solutions are drugs or surgery, which of course can be helpful. Both have their risks and downsides as well and I grew to particularly dislike the side effects of the prostate medication I was taking. I'm now off the medication with no ill effects. I would highly encourage men having any problems in this area to not give up hope. These problems can be addressed in a gentle and more holistic manner. Denise's skills are a gift to us all. Although I didn't work with Denise Alberto, Dr. Alex Blefari was my PT for the last few months helping me with a leakage problem after I had given birth 18 months ago. She has been the most amazing, empathetic, joyful, but most importantly, EFFECTIVE medical professional I've ever worked with! She approached my pelvic floor problems with so much dignity and empathy. With every exercise, treatment, and followup, Alex explained what she was doing and took the time to educate me on the human body (which is amazingly complex!) If you are reading this review, your probably in some sort of pain and trying to find a PT or your Doctor has referred you to her for specialized treatment and you might be thinking how do I know if she is any good? How do I know if any PT is really any good and can I trust Yelp reviews? I can speak from being a recent client in which I visited Denise for 6 sessions. I wont get into the details or my reason for seeing her but what I will say is that Denise really helped me. Not just a little, a lot. I mean 100% and I continue to be blown away by the results. As a client , it's super helpful to just be open to healing and let Denise do her thing. She really does have a gift. Of course I can't guarantee anything as each case is unique but I will say that from my experience , I fully believe in her. Last thing I want to say is that Denise is really not just a PT. Above and beyond a therapeutic massage I was sent to Denise because my primary doctor authorized physical therapy for back pain that was like bad sciatica. Her relaxing environment was good for inducing a calm, private atmosphere in contrast to open, busy spaces of most PT offices.. The original PT team reached an impasse with me as each session made my lower back pain worse. Denise, through her expert observation, quickly found my symptoms were pointing to something more ominous. She referred me to a special medical team that found I had stenosis of my lower spine (constriction of my cauda aquina -- the smaller nerve branches -- which is what the spinal cord turns into inside the lower vertebrae). Physical therapy would not help anymore and kept making the extreme pain go off the charts. The back surgeon did a biopsy from my spinous process to discover the root cause. I am now getting treatments for stage 4 prostate cancer and I would not have survived without early intervention. My deepest thanks to Denise for sending me on a life-saving journey. read more

I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Alex Blefari. I came to Alex with very painful PSD in my second trimester, and she was incredibly helpful with giving me exercises to help manage the pain while building strength throughout my pelvic floor. 6 months ago, I was reading Yelp reviews about Denise's practice and I was amazed (and admittedly, a bit skeptical) how so many people found relief from their ailments without medication or surgical intervention. I am young and healthy, so my doctors had been dismissing my concerns about chronic urinary tract infections, pelvic pain, pain with urination, amongst other issues that I have developed over the past 3 years. Every test came out negative and I was given the same unhelpful advice that left me without hope and in pain until I decided to make an appointment here. I saw Alex Blefari for postpartum pelvic floor pain that resurfaced when I began increasing my mileage (running). I was having such significant pain a day after a run that it hurt to walk. Over a handful of sessions she performed manual therapy and taught me stretches and exercises to work on outside of her office. Denise is incredible! I saw her when I was a child for some tailbone issues, and then I had to see her again as a young adult for vaginismus, hip issues, and low back pain. Denise made the whole experience comfortable, and she frequently asked how I was feeling. Dealing with vaginismus just comes with pain, but Denise always checked up with me, stopped or changed what she was doing when I needed her to, and kept up lighthearted and fun conversation. She did a lot of physical manipulation and massage, not just of my pelvic area but also my core, back, and neck. She's really spirited and encouraging, and it's clear she cares about her patients. For example, every time she was doing work that was painful or overwhelming to me, she would remind me that I was stronger than I thought, walk me through breathing exercises, and make me laugh, and then it was okay. When I went back to see my Gyno again after having 5 or 6 sessions, she said my improvement was as clear as day and night! Alex changed my life. With both my first and second pregnancy I had sciatica. With my second I had pelvic girdle pain that was so miserable. I tried massage, standard PT, and support bands and nothing helped. I finally went to Alex for Pelvic Floor Therapy and wished I had gone sooner. Denise is amazing. I went to her a few months after having my first baby. I was experiencing excruciating pain due to fissures in an area where no one wants to have to deal with or talk about. After being referred out my my midwife (who had misdiagnosed the issue), I saw two specialist doctors who continued to prescribe me medicine that failed to resolve the issue for over five months and then told me I would need surgery. Desperate, I looked for another option and found Denise. She came highly recommended by my lactation consultant and other moms, so much so that I went out of network with my insurance to see her. From the first visit, I knew I made the right choice. She was kind, patient, understanding and committed to helping me resolve the issue. She was a total professional and never once made me feel embarrassed or ashamed but always took the tome to explain things.
