Be careful of this guy! We had him come out to look at our air conditioner in the heat last month, as it wasn't blowing out cold air. He spent a total of 20 minutes at our house, and spent most of the time chatting with my wife. He spent a couple of minutes hosing off the outer grill of the air conditioner with his 'special cleaner'. My wife saw it, and it was a basic cleaner you can get anywhere. He charged us $750! My son's brother-in-law works in air-conditioning and heating and said we were scammed and that all you ever need to do is shut your system off, hose off the grill, and restart it. $750 for 20 minutes and spraying down the outside of the unit? Dennis for the win! Our water heater and furnace for a rental unit both went out unexpectedly, while we had short term tenants. I called a number of different service providers who weren't available for at least a week. Except Dennis who made time for me at the end of his day. Before confirming the appointment, he was transparent with his fees, which was appreciated. No surprises there. He called to give a heads up when he was on his way. He quickly established that our thermostat was miswired and broken (probably never worked - it's a top floor unit so gets quite warm during the day), and he replaced it on the spot. As for the water heater, he also quickly diagnosed and showed me that it was fully corroded and needed a full replacement. He gave me a quick quote and also suggested other financial options to consider. All in all. Great service by a transparent and hard working guy. I am very grateful to have found Dennis to fix an older Day and Night (Carrier) heater while I was in town for the weekend. After my initial troubleshooting thinking it might be the flame sensor, I called Dennis, described what I saw/heard and sent him a photo. He suggested a few things to try but ultimately it needed a new circuit board which despite a mix up from his usual supplier he was able to quickly track down a new one within a few hours (he told me he keeps all the parts he needs on board his truck but he noticed when he pulled out the "new" circuit board from the box it was actually used and he worked hard to try to get me another one asap which was very helpful as I told him I was scheduled to leave town). Dennis really knows his stuff having been in the business 30+ years, but what stood out to me is that he is an overall calm and clear communicator, timely, and has simple upfront pricing- he shared potential options of what the problem might be and associated price - I appreciate this so I don't feel trapped into paying for a potentially overpriced repair/part/service on the spot and the tech is saying subtle things to instill fear as my machine is splayed open like some other HVAC companies I've worked with. He doesn't try to upsell you on anything you may not need and is willing to explain what he is doing for those who are curious like me. This is not your normal review because I did not, as yet, use Dennis' services. I had to cancel and re-evaluate what I was doing. But, Dennis was very helpful over the phone trouble shooting my HVAC issue and gracious when I needed to cancel. I have worked with many HVAC suppliers and most of the time I feel as if I am in a matrix of switchboard operators, bosses writing extravagant estimates which do not jive with the man on the job, and the man on the job doing just the best he can. We consumers are not stupid and know when we getting poor/expensive service because we live in SF. Ever had a phone operator tell you they don't service your area code (waht?) when they dont want your particular job (not big enough).
