This is a mixed review, I worked with them 18 months ago to install a split air conditioner in a condo in San Francisco. This was a tricky job requiring a lot of work, and they were able to get things done within budget and in the agreed upon timelines. The work was generally good, and up to code. However, about 6-12 months in, we started noticing one of the split air conditioners leaking slightly when we use cooling, it was a slow leak that wasn't very alarming, and we barely used the cooling as well. In the last 2 months as the leak became more, I've wanted to get this fixed. I've tried reaching out to them multiple times, with multiple voice mails and never heard back. At this point, I'll probably pay someone else to fix it, it seems like they do not really honor their 2 year warranty on parts and labor. Writing this review as a cautionary tale. read more

After a remodel we no longer had a chimney to provide exhaust for our existing 80% efficiency furnace. After several consultations we have decided to upgrade to 90% one which can do horizontal exhaust. We have hired A + Quality H.V.A.C. to do the job. They were responsive and provided written quotes for several options. On the day of the install the crew showed up right on time and Alfonso, the foreman, immediately spotted the problem: our water heater would not be compatible with the new exhaust. Now, I wish this would have been discovered at the stage of the quote, but I really appreciate him bringing it up and thinking quickly of the possible solution. Alfonso managed to design a separate exhaust for the water heater, get materials and install it on the same day! They stayed well into the evening to complete the job - and we had heat and water for the night. The price tag for additional work was quite reasonable. read more

I had them replace an old gravity central heating unit with an entirely new unit. The new unit is fantastic and the installation looks highly professional. They left the area super clean. They underestimated the time and cost of the effort, partly because the ducts connecting to the old unit were so old. They replaced quite a bit of the ducting at no additional cost! I have an old gravity feed furnace. PG+E checked it out and said that it needed a thermocouple. Pretty standard stuff. Pop a new one in and go on your way. I called A+ and the receptionist was great. Personable and helpful, she was terrific. Pablo, the guy that was supposed to call me back, didn't call back. I called again a few days later. The receptionist was still great. Pablo however was there. He said that he doesn't work on gravity feed furnaces. Okay, that's fair so far but then he said that he would only come out if we wanted to replace the furnace. Really? We have a furnace that needs a simple repair and he won't address that but if we want to spend a lot of money on something that we don't want or need he'll be happy to come out? Really? That's some customer service. Pablo made it really clear that helping the customer wasn't anywhere near the top of the list. In fact, it wasn't on the list at all. Thanks but no thanks. Our 25-year-old furnace died in February and it was really no fun at all trying to keep everyone comfortable inside during some of the cooler evenings. Pablo was super patient in trying to troubleshoot the issue as a first step and we ultimately determined a new unit was the best, most cost effective solution after a few tries at replacement sensors failed to resolve the issue. Pablo and his team were really great on the install and super tidy as well. The heater worked really well for us throughout the rest of the cooler season. I'm also loving the peace of mind going into this coming winter. Fast forward 6 months, I thought I caught a whiff of natural gas inside the garage and mentioned it to Pablo. He came out the next day to check on things with his meter to just make sure there were no issues and confirmed all was good. I feel like at the end of the day I got great service, a quality replacement for our old equipment at a fair price, and a company who is willing to stand by their work. read more

Despite Covid-19 and a busy winter season - A Plus was available, competitive, and responsive vs the others. Our furnace broke down recently during the coldest winter I have ever experienced in SF. We called a couple of places that needed at least 2 weeks to send someone over. Then I came across A Plus and saw how many people raved about Pablo. The moment I spoke to him on the phone, I knew this is the guy. Called him on a Tue. He said he can come over that Thur. The next day, on a Wed, he said he finished a job early and can swing by. He immediately discovered the problem and offered to either just replace the part or replace the furnace. I called A-Plus based on the reviews here, after our furnace fan started making an alarming noise. I discussed the problem on the phone, and we set up an appointment for the next day. I now know that in itself was remarkable, since I called three other companies and they wanted to schedule something after mid-November (brrrrr...) He was very upfront about the service call charges. On the call, he also advised me of some steps I could take to try to fix the problem myself. Later that day I took the time to try them, and the problem got resolved! I contacted him to cancel the appointment with many thanks for his help. He'll certainly be the first I call the next time I need furnace repair! PS - He can be very hard to reach by phone. Alex was fantastic! He was proactive in his communication, showed me everything he was going to do, consulted me on any changes, and best of all did a phenomenal job. My ducts were falling off, the boots were disconnected, barely getting any heat in the house. The CO exhaust was taped and I didn't have a neutralizer. Alex, fixed everything in three days. Review is based on my latest appointment with Pablo who I scheduled to give me a new heatpump install estimate. I have been having problems with my gas furnace turning itself off constantly for over a year and I was just fed up. Pablo came out, took a look at my current system and gave me his very honest professional opinion. He actually told me not to get a new heatpump because my current furnace was really good and suggested installing a new condensate drain line and repositioning the furnace to allow better airflow to prevent overheating/overworking the system. When he explained it, it made sense. Better than any other HVAC contractor could diagnose and explain to me before. I found Pablo to be a very trustworthy professional. He could have sold me a $20k+ new system but instead recommended the more pragmatic repair and adjustments that he quoted less than $3k. My wife and I are new homeowners and we have heard countless horror stories about contractors who are unreliable, unprofessional, or non-communicative. We feel very fortunate that we had an opportunity to work with Pablo and his team. First and foremost, Pablo is incredibly honest and professional. When we purchased our house, the sellers told us that the blower was broken and would cost one thousand dollars or more, which my wife and I were prepared to pay. Pablo came by and saw that the problem was an old/faulty ignitor and only charged us for his time. We also asked him for advice about adding a second furnace in our house and his advice was incredibly practical. He helped me get a better understanding of our ductwork and furnace, which I was previously clueless about. Pablo came back on two other occasions for minor issues and I was impressed with how quickly and professionally he responded despite these being very small jobs (he actually didn't charge us for one of them!). Other reviewers have mentioned this, but Pablo is incredibly prompt. When he tells you that he'll be there at a certain time, he's there. It's obvious that he enjoys his work and takes his professional reputation very seriously. He also seems to appreciate and enjoy working with individual homeowners, which made me feel good. Pablo is also a very kind person and easy to work with. While he was at our home, I had an opportunity to learn about his family and experiences in HVAC business. Pablo responded to my call immediately and was able to come out the same day to service my furnace. I had gone without heat for three days due to the blower not operating. He was up front and let me know there was a $120 service charge. I was in no position to argue since I needed someone to look at the system that day. Pablo was at my house as promised and began to diagnose the problem using his testing equipment. Upon discovery of the problem, he contacted his warehouse so see if the part was in stock and let me know the cost of the unit. I agreed, so he returned in 45 minutes with the part and worked for another 30 minutes installing the part. Pablo was knowledgeable, efficient and honest. He did not try to sell me something I didn't need. He showed me the old part and sure enough, it was burned out. Our house is back to its normal 68 degrees and not the very uncomfortable 60 degrees it was prior to Pablo's visit. Pablo will be my go to guy for all my heating and A/C needs. read more

Great experience with these folks. Customer service over squeezing out an extra buck. Called them out to the house last year when the boiler would not light consistently. Fixed quickly and walked me through what they did to clean the lines so i could fix myself if the problem happened again in the future. Last week the furnace shut down mysteriously and I could not determine the cause myself. A Plus responded quickly to my service request, was transparent about costing in advance, and showed up right on time. The technician (who was super polite and professional) did a diagnosis, discovered the problem was a very simple electrical issue, and fixed it in about 15 seconds. THEN he didn't charge me a dime for the repair or diagnosis, despite making the house call. Will definitely call them back. read more

Woohoo indeed: as good as it gets. My furnace went out sometime Friday, and Saturday morning, after my gas fireplace had finally gotten the house to 60 degrees (up from 56) I called A-1. They responded in--like--half an hour. I asked if they could come at noon, Carlos was here at noon. In 40 minutes my furnace was working better than it had worked in forever. Since the system is ancient (from the '60s) and the furnace itself is over 20 years old, I asked Carlos about a real and complete fix. He figured it would cost approximately 4+K for ducting, filteration, etc., which I'll re-visit in May. In the meantime, Carlos didn't want to take the $120 which was the quoted cost for this first visit.....just in case his fix didn't hold. You just don't find service that wonderful any more. Quality work! I work for a real estate team and the home we were selling had both heater malfunction in the middle of escrow. Our clients were not expecting this to happen and hadn't prepared for any large repair so late in the game. Plus in was 2 days before thanks giving!!! Eek! Pablo really saved it! I got home close to 5p.m on a Friday with my toddler, to find out our heater is not working. Our house is freezing and can only imagine the long and cold weekend it is going to be. After doing some research, I realized the problem with the heater is something more than what we can consider fixing ourselves and start looking for reviews on yelp and recommendations.
