Absolutely the worst Denny's I have ever experienced. We only chose to eat there because we were on a road trip and got off the freeway and presto, there it was. My boyfriend and I have been here twice before each time was nasty but he convinced me to give it another shot only because it was the only place in Atwater open so we went and of corse my food comes back super cold nooo flavor and on top of that when I moved my egg there was a long black hair in it! Friday night I stopped by after seeing a play in Merced for a late night dinner. The place was very busy so I can only assume they were short staff. With only a few open tables I waited five minutes and no one had greeted or even acknowledged that I was standing there waiting to be seated. So I left. Maybe another time. So still in want of my Super Bird sandwich that I did not get last night here I decided to give them another try. It was 3:30 in the afternoon and as expected not very busy. I was greeted promptly and seated, and brought my beverage of choice a coke'. Great start. As I already knew what I wanted to eat I may have thrown off the waitress sense of timing. In any case it was quite a while before she showed up to take the order. The sandwich arrived promptly just as ordered and as yummy as I had remembered. My coke was empty when she brought the meal and saw said she would be right back with another. I had completely finished my meal when she returned with the beverage. Hummm. I asked for my check and once again she disappeared. I waited a few minutes let I guess a basic tip as I still hadn't gotten the bill as I made my way to the cash register. A young man was there but clearly could not take any cash but he did manage to produce my bill. I got as close as I could to the exact amount left it on the cash register and left. In the meantime a line of four had assembled behind me all trying to pay. Ok so Denny's in Atwater off the list. Not good service when slow and really not good service when slammed. Still love my Super Bird and Moons over Myhammie, will just have to find another location to get them. Too bad when I live right here in town. Augh!!! read more

Yes this is a Denny's but it's an exceptional one! We went on a whim after shopping in Atwater with our kids on a Saturday night. 1st of all kids eat free so the 4 of us ate for 17 bucks! Our drinks were promptly refilled, our waitress was nice and on top of things. I ordered a hamburger an low and behold it was a REAL hamburger - not an obviously frozen disk if meat! If you want a family dinner that costs less than mcdonalds and tastes better hit Denny's on Tuesday or Saturday nights! read more

Horrible service ! I didn't even sit down to eat. I walked in with my 2 year old nephew and saw 4-5 tables open and 1 family waiting for a seat. I asked the clueless cashier how long the wait would be she said 15-20 minutes. I'm like okay aunt some people called ahead so I said okay and waited 15 minutes. The whole time the clueless cashier walked back and forth to the front and to the back not doing a thing while the tables were open. She did go and clean 1 table and took the tips and that was it. More people were coming in and waiting at this point but no one was getting seated. I made the best decision and walked out. If you want to wait 15-30 minutes for 2 people to eat then go here. If you want slow service incompetent cashier/hostess then come here. But if you live in Atwater and are willing to wait then come here. read more

Food is delicious, but the service is horrible. From the spanish speaking manager to the waitress, the Spanish speaking one with heavy accent and the older short woman. And this was on two separate occasions within a week. Our last straw was the waitress asked if we need to split our bill, we said yes please. And she rolled her eyes and let out a loud "ugghh". Our server was Adam. He was so great. He gave us an acceptable amount of time to look over the menu before coming back to take our order. Very attentive and gave suggestions of what to order. Our drinks came out right away and he continued to come back with refills on our drinks. I built my own skillet and it came out very good. My husband ordered a build your own burger. The wait staff are friendly and attentive, making tasty suggestions and gladly substituting my order to meet my dietary needs. I get my food fast and accurate from the cooks who I don't see very but I appreciate them too. We went for a late dinner and though the food was hot and delicious it wasn't what we ordered. They gave us a discount, though when the bill arrived it was still about $3 more than it should have been. I felt defensive when I brought it up again because they said that was the lowest discount possible. I had to say that I didn't want a discount but that I just wanted to be rung up for what we actually ordered. It took him awhile but the manager gave us another discount. The manager is there to please, if you have the slightest complaint, tell her. This is the best Dennys we have ever eaten at and we traveled the country for 12 years in a motor-home and have eaten at many other Dennys. Had dinner here with my girlfriend. It was a very good experience. Our waitress Betsy was awesome. Very courteous and attentive. Always asked us if we were good and if we needed anything. Food was excellent. We both ordered off of the Skillet menu and the food was cooked to perfection. No complaints. Worst experience ever in this Dennys. The waitresses, although quite a few of them were very poor. Wait time almost a full hour only to get mediocre food. The entertainment was watching a waitress named Law brushing g food onto the carpet when she made a half attempt at wiping g it with the filthy rag from the last tables pile of crumbs and chunks she had brushed onto the floor. We went here last week on a friday and everything was super good! I got the bourbon Chicken and my hubby got the loaded potato Chicken skillet. He loved it! We came here this Sunday and everything was subpar. They were out of the queso sauce for the loaded Chicken potato????? And no one said anything until all our other food was being delivered so two of our party had to wait for them to make them a different entree. My bourbon Chicken was dry with almost no sauce. The manager there, Beatrice is very unprofessional. During our meal she confronted our table and accused us very loudly in front of the entire restaurant of us trying to steal drinks. This was unwarranted, uncalled for, disrespectful, and completely absurd. After five minutes, and myself telling her to leave us to our meal, she left us alone. During ring out, I ask to speak to the manager and she coward away, telling her employees to say that she had left. I will never visit this location as long as Beatrice is working there. I'd advise you to do the same. There is no reason to be treated like this. If their employee did not write on the check our drinks, I do not know how that is our fault. The check was not even given to us, all she had to do was put the drinks on the check. That in no way involved us. Or the disrespect Beatrice showed us. She offered no apology nor any explanation. Very unprofessional. I do owe it to the workers for their apology for Beatrice's unprofessionalism. As I say, the coward ran away. Update: October 29, 2017. I contacted their corporate offices many times, left emails, messages, and have not heard back from them. My favorite was the bourbon chicken skillet since I always order it. I went to this place the first time today & also order one, thinking it'd taste amazing like the one I got in Merced. Sadly, this order was burnt. Although there was the sizzling, you can literally smell the burning and it tasted very burnt. Having Sunday breakfast with the family here, I would not recommend. I came here with a family of 9 and was told that it was going to be a 15 minute wait. I then come to find out that they were going to sit us in 2 different booths. We ended up having to wait over a half an hour to be seated. I have never written a bad review, but I feel it's necessary others know what to expect when you come here to eat: rude staff, rediculously long wait times and stale/incorrectly cooked food. Honestly, how hard is it to prepare drinkable coffee? Or even decent bacon? The coffee was stale, it tasted like it was left on a hot plate and allowed to evaporate leaving a disgusting brown fluid, the bacon was burnt to a tasteless crisp, and we literally waited an hour and a half. On a weekend. For lunch. I witnessed people frustratedly cancel their orders and leave because it took so long, and I felt tempted to do the same.
