Over cooked hash browns. The staff is totally clueless. (They put ranch dressing on my cheeseburger) The whole restaurant smells horrible. The bathroom is extremely gross. I had hoped service would improve when this place reopened. It has not. Long wait times, nobody acknowledging customers standing in the waiting area - actually staff ignoring customers. Absolutely terrible service. We walked in and stood for at least 5 minutes, as there was no one up front to greet or seat us. Another girl, I think a waitress had to yell at the person that was supposed to be up front. She finally decided to make her way up front. Then were told to go and sit at a "clean booth", and "i'll be over to give you your menu's in a minute. We walked by multiple dirty tables/booths which is just completely unsanitary and gross. It looked like they had been dirty for a while, but the staff didn't seem to care. The waitress took our drink order, and gave me the wrong drink. I asked for sweet tea, and was brought unsweetened tea. I thought that I was pretty clear when speaking as to what I wanted for my beverage. Then we proceeded to wait at least 20 minutes or more for our food, and there was like 3 or 4 other diners in the establishment. So there was no excuse as to why our food took that long. While waiting for our food, the waitress walked around on the phone on speaker phone/face time talking to whoever. Then proceeded to air her dirty laundry into the kitchen to the so called "manager" across under the heat lamps where I watched food sit for at least 15 minutes. When we received our food, my omelet was luke warm, all the toppings/fillings were ice cold, and the hash browns were basically raw/under-cooked. Other party members pancakes were missing their bananas, and the other had the wrong pancakes all together. The order was not complicated, and I believe a 5th grader could have had more intelligence to do something right. I was afraid to say anything as you could pretty much tell no one their gave a damn about the quality of service and/or food being sent out of the kitchen. They would have probably just spit in our food. Additionally, the other kitchen staff walked away outside to smoke or something and left one person in the kitchen being the "manager". The waitress wasn't even present to remove dishes from the table, probably too busy again on her damn phone to worry about customer service. Had to flag down the so called "manager" that didn't seem to know how to do anything, saying "I dunno" multiple times while we were there. I think his name was Derek? Don't really care to remember. We definitely won't be back, and I recommend anyone else planning to visit this location, JUST DON'T. You'll regret it! I can't believe the level disservice, and poor customer service. Probably the worst experience at a Denny's I have ever had, waited 15-20 minutes when there are visible tables to sit out. Tons of dirty tables all around, we finally got seated, and ordered and the waitress never came back to refill drinks. I had to get up and ask her for drinks, when paying up front as the transaction is being processed the waitress who was ringing me up walked off after I inserted my card and said grab the receipt yourself. Sign advertises it is open 24 hours, it is not. Hours are very hit and miss. Ate there yesterday morning and waited over an hour for our food to come out. The restaurant was not busy, had maybe 4 other tables with guests. Quality of the food was substandard. Bacon was well over cooked, scrambled eggs were runny. I don't have high expectations for Denny's however I do expect a little quicker service than what was provided and edible food. You would be better off getting a gas station burrito or McDonalds. read more

We haven't been to Dennys in awhile . I know they had been closed for awhile and honestly wasn't that great when they were opened . Today we went for breakfast and boy what a positive change! They were super busy , which was a good sign that something had improved. The guy at the front was very friendly and welcoming. We had a great waitress . She was super busy , but still checked on us . The food was great . We all were stuffed. Hope Dennys stays this way. read more

This place is absolutely terrible. Go anywhere in town but this place. Took over an hour for our food to come out, well most of it my order was forgotten and my sons was totally messed up. Had to get up and go find our own silverware, once our waitress was replaced by another our server was amazing so no discredit to her. We tried to talk to the manager about it but she apparently has a very bad attitude and should be replaced if they ever plan to turn this place around. I went after our theatres variety show. Roberto was our waiter and he was the sweetest thing. He gave us suggestions on what to and what not to order. What would take a while to make. He put up with our late night hysteria and was really funny. He regularly checked up on us and was fast with our food. Was very sweet when he said there wasn't any of what we originally wanted available and gave us an alternative that was better. This place is very hit or miss. We have been there a few times, and at times it was fantastic. Great food, clean, great service. However, more often than not it is quite the opposite. Trash and food on the floors, extremely slow service, incomplete orders, etc. Not sure we'll be back any time soon after our last experience there. Sad, as Denny's can be a great place. First off, clean the place. Replace the carpet, clean the restrooms, and get visible dust/lint out of the kitchen area. Second, make sure your staff does their job. Get orders right, the first time. Takes a while for anyone to acknowledge you for seating or for checking out. I think it's the management. We've eaten at this location twice, the food has been good both times. Both times our server was Stephanie. She is a super waitress but also takes on a lot of other people's jobs, because they can't seem to keep enough staff. Worst place in Carlsbad to go and that's saying a lot!!! I've been disappointed over and over again hoping this place would get better! Don't usually leave negative reviews because I don't want to spread bad energy, but this was actually the worst meal I've ever had in a restaurant in my adult life. I ordered a make-your-own omelet but instead of cooking the ingredients into the omelet, it was just a cold egg patty folded in half over spinach, tomato, and an unmelted slice of cheese. The fruit on the side was aged and inedible. Would give negative stars if possible -- should maybe call the health department -- but at the very least, stay far, far away. read more

I just finished lunch here. It was good, it was what I expected, it was satiating. I read the reviews and wondered how bad could it be after I ordered. It took about 10 minutes for our food to come. We usually order the same stuff at any Denny's, so we know what the standard should be like. Our waitress Rikki was pleasant and attentive. She took our drink order right away when she sat us, and promptly brought the beverages. Sprite and coke, both properly fizzy with the right about of syrup. The restaurant was clean but not spotless (children dropping food is probably beyond control of the staff). Anyway take a deep breath and expect this to be a normal Denny's experience, it's not a Michelin Star restaurant after all. Oh my wow... I saw the reviews before and figured "it's Dennys, how bad could it be?" Well... they sure delivered in the dissapointment category. We waited 51 minutes to be seated... They put the wrong cheese on my burger, took it back and put on a cold piece of the correct cheese... They forgot to put the sauce on my burger, took it back a second time and put a bunch of cold sauce on it (making a mess)... The burger was lukewarm at best... There was easily visible amounts of dirt on my grapes, not washed at all... My water glass was empty for at least 15 mins... No paper towels in the very dirty bathroom... This was my worst experience with any Denny's restaurant. We waited about 15 minutes for our server to come ask us for drinks. She came back and rudely placed them down, spilling my coffee. She didn't say anything about it and never wiped it up. We asked for lemons several times before she brought them back annoyed as if we were an inconvenience to her. We waited for our meals for an hour, and they only brought out 3/4 meals, and got one of those wrong. The server was clearly upset that we informed her that she got one of the meals wrong and she even asked "well do you just want to have this one instead.." so she wouldn't have to redo the order. So she took the meal back. In summary, the fourth meal and the meal we sent back never came, and neither did our server. After 20 more minutes, we just left. I would like to have imagined that this was an isolated incident with this one server, but the people sitting next to us were in the same boat and hadn't received any meals having arrived only a few minutes after us.
