As a regular customer of Denny's in Merced as well as Denny's in general, I was disappointed in today's service and food. It's one of the few food places open late at night in Merced. However, it is located in a sketchy area and tends to attract obnoxiously loud drunk people especially in the early AM. Also, the water tastes gross (probably tap water). Seated relatively quick but was a couple tables away from a group of 8 obnoxiously loud drunks. We did not even know that there was music playing until we requested to be moved. We wanted to move to the opposite side of the restaurant, but the waitress said that it was "closed" and was reseated marginally further from our original seating. Less than 5 minutes later, a loud group of 4 drunks were seated literally right next to us. I ordered Eggs in a Basket, which at the time sounded appealing. We had been waiting for food for over half an hour even with the restaurant being mostly empty. When the food finally arrived, one of the bacon pieces was chopped up for some reason. The eggs tasted weird (not in a good way), hash-browns were good, but the sausage and bacon were OK. I lost my appetite before finishing my food, which is rare. We left 70 minutes after arrival (group of same size seated after us ended up leaving before us). I plan to update my review if the service is improved upon next visit. read more

I love dining at this Denny's, the staff is always pleasant and very attentive. Fast service, great food I truly recommend it.

Food Quality: 8/10 This breakfast place is decent but very overrated. Service Quality: 8/10 Not very memorable, but average atleast. Atmosphere: 6/10 Way too crowded and overwelming. It is also ghetto. You have to wake up early to get there before all of the shady people show up. Cost Efficiency: 8/10 Standard prices. Not much to brag about but pretty good. I visited Denny's a few times since moving to Hanford. I've been impressed every time by the friendly staff and food. Today, my family had the pleasure of being served by Lucy. Very snotty, non friendly staff. Then the cooks, making a bunch of noise to the point it hurts your ears. All I got was a breakfast to go. And because I felt no tip was needed, the sales clerk didn't even hand me my food. I had to lean over the counter to grab it. If no stars was an option, that's where I would leave it. I have never been so disappointed in my life. I recieved my food I started to eat it and noticed the potatoes were cold I asked the waitress could I get it warned up? She replied sure! I watched her take it to the chef he took my plate replaced the potatoes and took a few off and ate them and said these are hot . The waitress gave me my plate like nothing happened I mentioned to her I seen him do it she apologized to me and said he was wrong. This particular Dennys is by far the best in the valley. We have been to Turlock, Modesto, Atwater, and Stockton and this Merced location has the best service. Their food is always great service is excellent and waitresses are always willing to get your order how you like it. Just left Denny's!!! 5 Stars for sure!!! Brianna our waitress was fabulous. We go to a lot of restaurants and Brianna has got to be the best waitress we have ever had. She was friendly and proficient. We never ran out of drinks, that is big to our family. We had a party of six and the place was busy she took care of us and all of the other guests she had. The reason I know is because when we were paying other customers were raving about how good her service was as well. We live in Roseville went Fresno for a football game and stopped to eat here. Generally very good service. Servers are often friendly and helpful. They can usually joke around with you as well. Great at handling large groups, they usually treat their regulars pretty well. Food quality-wise, it IS still a Denny's, but you're probably stopping by here because it's convenient and cheap anyway. Went there for breakfast with a couple of friends of mine. We ordered a coffee, three waters and some lemon slices. The waiter, named Eleesa, came back with the coffee and two waters. We gave her the benefit of the doubt because she had other people to wait on and decided to leave it at that. 10 minutes go by and we still have not gotten the third water or the lemon slices. Another 5 minutes and she rushes over and hands it to us. Earlier, Eleesa had asked if we were ready to order, I replied with a "yes, we're ready" and she proceeded to say "okay I'll give you some time" and left for a little less than 10 minutes. When she came back, we had all ordered some medium rare steaks. Excited for our food, we couldn't wait to dig in. An hour passes by and a party of five who had received appitizers and their three entrees had finished and left before we got to even lay eyes on our food. Finally, after such a long wait, we get our food, only to land in a pool of disappointment and sadness. Our food was cold and overcooked. If Eleesa hadn't been so busy flirting with her coworker Elijah, she would've given us our plates in a timely manner and we wouldn't have a problem. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Even the plates that are kept under a heating lamp was barely warm to the touch signifying that Eleesa had left our plates to sit and get cold. I wouldn't have minded it if it was busy, but there were about four tables all with less than 4 people And two waiters to handle their own sections. Annoyed, we asked for the manager on duty and, of course, no manager was there. Me and my friends didn't even touch our food. We got up to pay for the only thing we consumed, the coffee. Eleesa tried to split the tab between us three, but, not having eaten a single bite, we refused to pay for such poor services, cold to the touch and overcooked food. The only good thing that came out of this visit was the coffee and even that, was 90% water, 5% coffee, and 5% creamer. You could say that it was a pretty bad morning. read more

I find that those who give this place such bad ratings are either incredibly spiteful or just overly sensitive. Every place has its bad days and mess ups. I tend to look at the overall experiences over multiple visits. I find that the owners of this Denny's have seriously achieved becoming the best Denny's within at least 75 miles of here. The staff is always friendly * Tatum is the best * and they are always a little more generous with their portions than the average Denny's. It is very clean which is a huge plus in my book and the staff is very attentive and friendly. Went here with a friend for breakfast on a Saturday morning and it was great! The restaurant was packed with customers so we weren't expecting excellent service, but we were wrong. The waitress took our order right away and we were served our beverages and meals very quickly. I'm not a frequent customer but I've come here several times before. I have usually never had a problem before, and this really isn't a criticism of the staff or food itself but of a manager in particular. After being done with an event we went to Denny's to get some food. Behind us were some loud obnoxious drunk guys. They started harassing me and my party and even when they left the restaurant they harassed my friends. At the start of the night they were harassing one of my friends trying to record her, we went to get the manager but instead of kicking them out gave us attitude and started laughing with them. I don't know her name but I should have taken it down because that was unacceptable and I'm never giving this particular restaurant my business again, at least until she's fired. read more

I'm not usually one to leave reviews, but the service we received last night was by far the most subpar service we've received at denny's. The food was good as usual but the service was just absolutely ridiculous. We get there & once we're seated asked if we want separate tabs. my bf told her no, on the same tabs. the server, Ysabel(according to the receipt) brought us our drinks & we asked for straws. after 5+ mins of waiting & her passing by us multiple times without paying us any mind, we had to ask a different server for straws who had it for us within minutes(shout out to her!) we ordered our food & after the fact wanted to add another hot cocoa. we waited & waited but she never returned to check on us. we got our food finally then were finally able to order the other hot cocoa. for whatever reason we're not sure of, when we received our food she brought the manager & told us she specifically & personally brought him out to serve our food. we don't know why. so fast forward we're about 10 almost 15 mins after we finish our food & the whole time we actually wanted to order dessert. she finally came to us after maybe 15+ mins AFTER we finished our dinner, & by that time we were over it & no longer wanted dessert. she once again asked if we were on the same or separate tabs. my bf again told her same tabs. RIGHT AFTER he said that, she AGAIN asked, "separate?" he was pretty annoyed but was extremely tired so he just calmly spoke up & told her he said the same tabs. it looked like she already had our tabs separated & printed out in her little book so she quickly closed it & returned to print out our full tab together. i just wanna know, why assume we'll be on separate tabs after being told MULTIPLE times we're not on separate tabs??Now usually i try to be as nice & patient as i can because i personally work in the food/serving industry as well, but when we can SEE you standing there talking to your coworkers, NOT checking on us or providing us with what we need AND it isn't busy and you ONLY have TWO tables, that's when it's not okay. Your service has to be far passed subpar for our little sister to tell us not to tip you because your service didn't deserve it. i don't know if my boyfriend tipped or not, whereas he's the one who paid because surprise, surprise we were on the same tabs. i don't doubt that he didn't & i don't blame him one bit. step it up, i don't care what your personal problems are. Nothing special about this place. This is just an average denny's however the restaurant has had some interior upgrades and that is a definite plus. The service and food are okay, nothing exception and if you order the tri tip or any meat dish the four of us noticed that they didn't trim the fat at all. The flavor was good, but you didn't get to enjoy it because of the massive amount of fat around the steak. You can't beat this place for a late dinner. 3 of 5 stars. read more

It has been a while since I've came here, but the service was outstanding by the two gentleman that assisted myself and my father at the counter. They greeted us as soon as we walked into the door, and when I mentioned we were taking the order to-go, we were offered coffee and water while we waited. They promptly took our order and it was hot and ready in about 15-20mins. They boxed out food and the meals were hot and fresh still when we got home. I'm definitely going back soon! read more
