NO A/C! It was HOT in there! The server said often the owner doesn't run it and she burns up. We smelled a loud chemical smell of some cleaning product upon entering the restaurant that stayed with us while we were there. The food tasted like it'd been cooked 12 hours earlier. Denny's in North East, MD, is an independently owned and managed franchise, and one of three still open in Cecil & Harford Co's. We go as regularly as possible for their "55+ seniors' menu," and their "Super Slam." (Two fluffy 3/8 to 1/2 inch thick buttermilk pancakes, two strips of bacon, two sausage links, two eggs--we have ours over-medium, and plenty of hashbrowns. As take-out, it came with plastic KFS & paper napkins, packets of tomato ketchup, butter in a tiny covered bucket, and packets of syrup. $6.99) Today, our first time out of the house at 1 P.M. when our shut-down congregation was sending out the pastor's sermon by e-mail because of the covid-virus, we discovered Denny's OPEN for carry-out. HURRAH! We hope truckers and folks forced to travel the I-95 corridor will keep it in mind! We got a treat for ourselves since Sundays are in, but not fasting days of, Lent. It was a half-order of their "Zesty Nachos," which came with beef crumbles, a pico de gallo sauce, a large container of triangular corn chips, and two medium-sized covered buckets of sour cream. That's our late afternoon meal. The owner himself was working the take-out cash register. We chatted briefly. He spoke about his worries for the wait staff he had to reduce to a single person (rotated) to help those not on unemployment assistance. We left a 20% tip to help the sole server working. I'd be remiss if I did not ask for prayers for such a small business, owner, cooks, and staff. They are working hard to serve the truckers and a few loyal customers who get take-out. If you're afraid, or otherwise unable to get to this Denny's, they have a free delivery service. However, since it's not a standard thing there are "kinks" and your wait for delivery may be quite long the person taking our order by phone hinted. The parking lot is a modest size but only 4 cars were there, counting us. There were likewise a far reduced number of trucks in that other lot on the opposite side of the building. How to score it? 87.5 out of 100, or 7/8, very good, but they are striving in a difficult time to do better. Our breakfast, at home, was excellent, very warm, and tasty. My fiancé and I went in around 3am December 19th (today) and my fiancé asked for no mushrooms on his skillet and the lady who cooked it put mushrooms in it our server brought us the same plate with gloves on and there was still mushrooms in it. They just basically picked out some of the mushrooms instead of remaking it. I ordered a medium well steak with mash potatoes and rice . My steak was burnt and the mash potatoes looked like they sat for 12 hours they were hard and stuck together in a big clump the rice was dry. We heard the waiter call the cook babe so they obviously are together and shouldn't be working the same shift. He voided out my fiancé's meal but not mine which I only ate 2 bites of and paid 16 dollars for basically our drinks. We want our money back Denny's. read more

It's predictable Denny's food! However, for a Saturday morning at 9:00, they had the wrong host seating patrons. He seated us in a closed section. We were finally served by a waitress who realized we were being ignored. Then the host seated more people in our section. Debacle if you want to eat and run. The waitress earned her tip with her apologies and kindness. She saved the day. My Grand Slam Slugger was tasty. I wish Denny's offered real maple syrup at a little extra charge. The pancakes deserve it. Everything came to the table hot. The eggs over easy, smashed into the hash browns with a little salt and pepper was heavenly. The bacon and the sausage looked just like the picture on the menu. If I stop at this Denny's again, I'll sit at the counter. For that, I had to give them three stars. read more

Avoid if you can the reviews are true. Its quite a distance from the freeway exit. My quesadilla was awful just tons of onion tomatoes and generic American cheese slices. Went for lunch today 2/5/2018. Service terrible. Waited to be sested for ten minutes. Then when seated no one waited on us. After another ten minutes we left. Alright so I'm not normally one to post reviews about lost to-go orders because it happens and we are all human, no biggie. As a local, I usually enjoy this restaurant! Tonight, however, was just disappointing. Not only was the food lost, but it took them 45 minutes to realize it and remake it. I was not offered even the drink I'd ordered while I waited (which I get COVID but really?). Further, I watched the manager flit all over the front and touch his mask and everything else around him, not wash his hands, and then proceed to cut up fruits and cup them in his bare hands to put them in a bowl. Employees were seen with masks on their chins or under their noses improperly. There is a sign posted at the host stand stating patrons MUST don masks properly when getting up from their seat, which was absolutely not being enforced. Apparently someone had called out, which again I understand, except another server was seen on her phone leaning up against the counter between checking her tables instead of helping the others. At this point I'm not even sure I wanted my food, but got it anyway only to take it and find out there is also no syrup or butter for pancakes... just, not cool. Really disappointed this go around. Do better, and do it safely- or don't do it at all, please. read more

It's my first time visiting a Denny's, and by the time I walked I felt like I was in a western themed breakfast diner given all the brown leather seating, and wooden style decorations, which I'm pretty sure was the intention, but getting a closer look at the early to mid 1900s posters hanging in the walls, it's shows you that it's real intention was to take back early time in America's history, when early innovation, and jazz music was in the rise. The service could have been better, the waitress we had was really friendly, but for some reason it took almost an hour for our food to get here, which I'm sure she was aware of, cause she then removed some of the food from our bill, but even though the service probably wasn't at its best, it didn't make our dining experience any less memorable read more

I have no idea why it took so long for my milkshake to come out. How long does it take to put icecream in a blender? The waiter asked me if I wanted a water and guess what? Terrible. We waited 45 minutes to be seated. Then when we finally were, the waitress informed us that the food would take at least a half hour to come out. We asked to speak to a manager to see if our food could be expedited since we had already been standing in the restaurant for 45 minutes, and nobody had told us that the food would take ANOTHER HALF AN HOUR! Had we known, we never would have waited. So the manager comes out and says that, no he cannot expedite our food, and was extremely rude, and said "Do you want me to tell all of these other people that I'm going to put your food before theirs!!" And then he threatened to call the police when my husband tried to talk to him further. What an uncaring pig. We were traveling through the area, trying to get home to PA. I've been to this Denny's about 15 times during the extent I lived down the street from it in North East for a year, so you're going to get a very fair review here. I've also gone there during all shift periods, early morning, afternoon, later afternoon, evening, middle of the night. You get me. You'll get the best service if you seat yourself at the bar to be honest, and don't go in the middle of the afternoon, as this is when shift changes are happening and it's a slow period. This is because you're right in their face the whole time and they can't forget about you. I'm not saying all the girls do, but a couple are like this. Even sitting right behind the bar stools at a booth, some will just keep walking back and forth by you without looking at you, and you're their table. The majority of the servers are good girls, the middle aged gent who works there is one of their best servers. In terms of the wait staff in general, the older ones tend to be better at it with some even making the orders presented better by putting their own personal touch to it. (Seriously, the older brunette who decided to put the side of fruit displayed on a plate instead of in a bowl, that's genius. Seriously, I can see what fruit I'm eating then and mix it with my meal as I want. Made the whole meal better that way. PS, Hope you found your lost coat. I remember overhearing your whole ordeal last winter) Anyways, doing small things like this is nice. It shows they care and understand that making you happy, the customer, results in them getting better tips and therefor more money. Basically if your server addresses you with affectionate terms like "sweety" or "dear" or similar, you pretty much have one of the good servers. I've never had a bad experience with the older staff members. The blonde who could use some dental work, she's f'n fantastic as a server, probably their best. The couple of times I had bad experiences, was with younger servers. I mean one time was god awful experience, and when I got the same waitress again I was like 'Oh hell no not her please no ahhh!' but it turns out, the previous time she just had a bad night and was top notch the second time around. Soooo food. Honestly, out of 15 times eating there I had two orders that had a problem. One was the Cranberry Apple chicken salad, and they didn't have Cranberries or Apples, so that turned out to be a re-order to something else. The other time was the blueberry pancakes weren't completely cooked so I was eating batter near the blueberries which were just piled in the center - which is EXACTLY WHY the pancake didn't cook all the way. Gotta spread em out! I've had this happen elsewhere tho, even at IHOP for the same exact reason. In both cases server was completely understanding and got me a redo very quickly. The normal chef I've seen is this (being polite here) 'stocky' short white girl, and she seems to run the kitchen staff very effectively. When they are busy, you can see her working their staff like a machine. It's nice, they have their system and it works. In all sincerity, hey, it's a Denny's but they do a decent job of it despite being part of a truck stop. I actually miss being able to go here. It's why I'm writing this review because I was thinking about going to the Denny's I live near now again. If you have problems with your order, just do what I do, bring it to their attention and don't be a complete dick about it, and they are good about resolving issues quickly. This review is for the District Manager of this specific Denny's as it is obvious that he/she doesn't care about the customers nor this location's hard working staff, but only about making numbers look good! Find a better way to cut costs on your weekly truck order so you don't run out of common diner things like: Coke, Ketchup, Vanilla and/or chocolate ice cream, kids cups etc.!?!?! Most of these items are either NON PERISHABLE or have long shelf life! When we further discussed the obvious shortage with staff/manager, we were told that they often borrow food from other Denny's or are forced to run to local Walmart for eggs, etc!??! What?? Can you imagine walking into a Denny's and being told, "sorry no grand slam today, no eggs.?" Especially a place where breakfast is served around the clock...hello? My food has always been good there and the staff is generally nice and attentive to your needs. My normal purpose (as it is for many), for stopping at this location is to gas up my RV or car, and grab a bite to eat before or after a long trip. I could opt to do this one exit North of this location at a comparable service area or at the Maryland House rest area along 95. There are other logical choices for potential customers, hello? Ironically, there is a website called "dennyslistens.com" to complain to the likely District Manager who apparently doesn't seem to listen to this location's staff. Shameful! read more

Elkton) - on my last visit whilst waiting to be seated, the women carried on their conversation for 5 mins before bothering to notice I wanted a seat. Went in and was seated by a nice young hostess, they got our drinks, no one ever came to take our order,it wasn't crowded or busy, several waitresses tended to those already there but didn't ask if anyone had been over. We waited patiently til those who came in behind us orders were taken, then that was enough. We paid for our drinks, made our complaint, the girl told us she would get mgmt. turns out she was the waitress in that section, she apologized, but that's it, you only had a hand full of customers, how can you not notice a table sitting for 30mins? I've been there quite a few times for business meetings. There are very few friendly staff members and it's seems when they do get a few good ones their fired! Once we get one that is good at what they do we get to know them. Management seems none existent unless they are treating one of them poorly in front of customers!
