The Denny's in Schenectady is probably the most engaging we have ever experienced. We had breakfast there and everything was very good. The big difference was the wonderful service. The waitress came by several times to check on us and really made us feel welcome. You could tell she enjoyed her job and wanted to be sure the folks she served got the best treatment. We've been coming to this Denny's for a good four years. Yes, the experience, namely the food more so than service, really varies from visit to visit, and one time a dishwashing staff was put in charge of cooking or burger which turned out to be...a mess. Ultimately though, when they're good they're solid, and their bourbon bacon burger is still one of the best burgers I've had. Plus, this is one of the only remaining Denny's in the Capital Region and I certainly hope these guys stay open and keep improving for a long time. Haven't seen a Denny's in a long while and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved it. Food was amazing. Visited family in the area and went for breakfast. Hannah the waitress is hilarious. A great personality and great service. She knows what she's doing and has a passion for people. We ordered everything from their pancakes, French toast. I'm surprised at the negative reviews. I went in here expecting a Denny's experience - not a 4 or 5 star restaurant and it 100% met expectations. Simple good food cooked. Staff exceeded my expectations - they were laughing and interacting with guests. Felt like a small town diner where the wait staff know the regulars type of thing. Ambience is fine - it's a Denny's. Most disgusting experience I've ever had at any restaurant in my life, that includes seeing a cockroach crawl up a wall at a Diner in NC. I walked into this place and immediately noticed it was understaffed, then i noticed the mild smell of fecal matter, it took over 15 minutes to be seated, it wasn't that busy either. Took another 15 minutes for server to get order, took another 15 minutes to get the absolute worst coffee i have ever had in my life. Then went to use the restroom, it was abhorrent!! 3rd world country restroom, now i know where the fecal matter smell is coming, unimaginable.... Don't know why i didn't grab my girl at this point and leave, sat down, food (if that's what you call it) came, got Grand Slam breakfast as i am a Veteran and this was their special, over medium eggs runny as hell, i was adamant about no loose white, sent it back, while it was being re-cooked i tried bite of pancakes.... Gross!!! One bite, dine! Not eating that!! Eggs came back still slightly undercooked but tolerable, took bite of hash browns i ordered extra, gross!!! Took bite of rye toast.... Gross!!! Bit into sausage, had to spit into a napkin it was nauseating. Everything about this restaurant is disgusting!!! We got up and i paid $20 that i owed as my crap meal was free. I will never... We were on our way to Rochester from visiting a friend and met another friend for lunch on our way through. Bri's service was great. She is friendly and efficient. We were seated right away. The menu was typical Denny's. I had their Classic Benny - got it hot, made just right, and the right portion size. My wife had the Cobb Salad, dressing on the side. Just the right size. Our friend had a burger. Looked good. I recommend this Denny's. It's certainly better that the cumulative stars suggest. read more

I came to my local Denny's and the first interaction I had was them arguing on who was going to me and my little family to sit us. We finally get seated and we order our food we waited about 20 minutes for our appetizer which was mozzarella sticks and the reason we got them so late is because THEY FORGOT OUR APPETIZER! Then after 10 minutes our food comes out and I order a crepe and omelette with bacon and veggies. My food come completely wrong my omelette had no eggs. Then I wanted a remake there was a whole lot of attitude so I decline for the remake because the chefs in the back were upset for the remake. So to conclude this it was very bad service!! read more

Went sun night no other customers when we arrived at 745 pm. Waitress was polite. We ordered. The cooks need to go back to boces and learn how to cook. Grand slam sausage cold bacon old over cooked small hash browns over cooked greasy, over easy eggs were over hard no yoke yoke were cooked all the way. Pancakes were perfect. Daughter ordered the burger special, the egg was fried hard no yoke, wrong cheese she ordered Swiss they put American, she took 2 bites if that. Her frys were 1/2 cooked and cold. We ordered drinks when we ordered meal drinks never came. Thank god we asked for water when we sat down. The waitress spent more time on her phone never checked in on us, had to go to cashier to get bill and pay. She did take drinks off drinks we never got and took daughters burger off. Not a good experience even worse cause they were empty of custoners when we sat, but acted like they couldnt give 2 shits about us. Food is very good. Service was excellent. Lisa is great with the customers, especially the kids. We like the booths and the large back dining room for small parties and business meetings. Denny's is the only "Diner" in downtown Schenectady. Denny's gets 5 stars from us! read more

The experience I had here was mixed but not enough to say I would never be back just enough to say as an owner reading thing you may want to take notice. First, I will start with the food that was a mixed review with me. I ordered a grandslam breakfast the one that comes with OJ and Coffee, eggs, toast, sausage, bacon and short stack of pancakes. The breakfast was pretty good except for the pancakes which were pretty dry and they did not give enough butter for both of the pancakes. Everything else was very good eggs were perfect ordered overeasy and that was exactly how they were received. Very delicious food overall and very filling for the price. Second, I will talk to you about the wait staff which for the most part was pretty good as well. The waitress here was excellent and kept the coffee coming which is always good and was asking if anything else is needed just enough not to be annoying . The one part I was not happy with was when we were cashed out the person who cashed us out I guess was not supposed to be cashing people out because she had to have someone else start the register for her and tell her to ring it out. She grabbed my receipt and flipped my card out almost to the floor leaving me scrambling to catch it (not fun) but I paid and then left. This has to be the worst service I have ever experienced in my adult life. I ordered my friend a strawberry shake and myself sprite. He got my sprite to me about 20 Minutes from the time I posted this. All I ordered was three pancakes and they still haven't gotten that to me yet either. Their menus are so sticky I think someone gave the menus a taste of the special sauce if you can catch my drift. I will not come here again. Stopped in with a small group of spec Ed. teens going on a field trip nearby . The kids were learning how to be out in the world , and how order , and pay when at a restaurant. The staff was amazing , very helpful for our class . They seated them together while we sat across the way. The waitress was friendly and put the kids at ease. Everyone ordered perfectly. Some say, Oh, that is just a Denny's and at first glance I can support that synopsis. We visit there weekly for breakfast and usually get the same items on each visit. You can always depend on this place to provide excellent food on every visit and it always tastes the same; coffee is Top Shelf. Speaking of Top Shelf. Brea and Lisa are two fantastic servers, just the best ever with personalities that are awesome. Other servers are great too but these two are our favorites. I ate here a few months back out of town, before I had yelp, and tracked down this Denny's to write this review. In order to write this, I needed to select a star. I might give this resturant 1/10th of a single star, but that's a stretch. If not the worst dining experience, one of the worst top 2 or 3 definitely. Upon entering with my cousins (on a family trip) we were seated at a dirty table. Asked our oblivious waitress to clean it off and she did so. We order our drinks and she leaves out of sight for 10 minutes. Then we ask the nearest waitress can we get our water, it's just water. She replies "not your server." Our absent server finally comes back 15 mins later from what I can presume a smoke break, restroom, or teliing a coworker and lively story in the kitchen. Takes our food orders and leaves for another 30-45 minutes (no joke). I highly want to leave immediately at this point. But we stick it out for whatever reason. She comes back and we ask about our food and it still is cooking. About 30 minutes later she gives us incorrect orders and goes back into the kitchen, without apology. We finally get our food, which is halfway decent. Nothing to even raise an eyebrow. I recommend the manager that hired these employees resign and this Denny's get put out of buisness. My reviews are relatively high, for the most part, and I tracked down this buisness to write this review. We are done. My husband and I have stopped in a few times. (Maybe a total of 3 times in the last year) -Its right down the street from where we live. Every time it's the same nonsense. We are usually seated right away however it takes 10 to 15 minutes for a server to actually go to us another 10 minutes for us to get any drinks and then the whole time you're listening to all these other patrons complain about everything and it is just usually a train wreck. Here's a hint for any would -be entrepreneurs in Schenectady: Denny's survives, I believe, because it's the only alternative for diner-style food open reliably. The quality here has varied quite a bit over the years (and at present my updated review is back into the two stars because of excessive waiting and lack of coffee refills on top of the usual caveats about Denny's quick order food) but when I have business nearby and want to eat a real breakfast, this is my only option a lot of the time. read more
