We stopped here on a long car ride from Rochester to Virginia. We will be stopping again next…read moretime! It was worth it to get off the beaten path (for a very little bit, in the scheme of things) to eat here. We were disappointed we'd already had too much coffee for the day because it all looked so good. The service was a little blah but I'm okay with that, as long as the food is good. Took a while to make our sandwiches, but it was a bit early in the day (11:15 a.m.) and it gave us time to use the (clean) restrooms and look around the cute little place. I had the chicken Caesar wrap - HUGE amount of greens and some chicken (maybe not enough for some) and - get this - croutons(!!) in there, all with a great-tasting but not overly done dressing. It was so big it was shareable. But I managed to eat the whole thing. Couldn't have done any better on that wrap!! It came with chips and a really good pickle spear too! My hubby had the EBLT. SO huge. Not the easiest to eat while driving haha but an amazing sauce on there that just MADE the sandwich so much better than a boring BLT, even with an egg on it. Sure wish we had this little gem closer to us! Great little downtown vibe and quaint area. Next time, we won't skip the coffee, no matter how much we've had already!

I have been coming to this place for a long time and, until today, had no complaints…read more Today I brought in a coffee from the coffee shop down the street, thinking nothing of it. In fact, I thought that a place called "The Kind Cafe" might appreciate someone supporting another local business. Instead, I was told to cover up my coffee with a sleeve. It struck me as a very odd request, but I complied anyway. After that, the experience became increasingly uncomfortable. I overheard the barista making comments to other customers such as, "Thanks for choosing our place for your drink order." Given the context, it felt very clearly directed at me. The comment was made publicly, in front of other customers, and came across as an attempt to shame me for bringing in a coffee from somewhere else. Then he asked me what kind of drink I had gotten. After I answered, he responded, "Oh, I thought it was something special," with a tone that felt sarcastic and dismissive. At that point, I asked him directly whether I had offended him by bringing in a coffee from another business. He told me that outside drinks were not allowed but delivered the message with an attitude that felt unnecessarily hostile. I explained that I had never been informed of this policy and genuinely did not know. I also told him that I felt he was trying to make me feel bad about it. His response was essentially, "I wasn't trying to make you feel bad, but whatever." The policy itself is not the issue. Had someone politely informed me that outside drinks were not allowed, I would have respected that immediately. What bothered me was being publicly embarrassed and treated with passive-aggressive disrespect over what was clearly an innocent mistake. I've been a regular customer for years and order from this place nearly every week. This was the first time I had ever brought in a coffee from somewhere else. Being treated this way by both the owner and the main barista was disappointing and completely at odds with the values this business claims to represent. For a place that calls itself "The Kind Cafe," this was one of the least kind customer interactions I've experienced in a long time. Perhaps this is an opportunity for some reflection on what kindness actually feels like from the customer's side of the counter.

Next the Clams Casino, which I only ordered one because I got the steamers but I would highly recommend get 2+ because they were really good. Next we got the crab cakes and they were super tasty and had tons of meaty crab. Highly recommend the place due to the energy and overall casual but modern ambiance, food and staff.

This one just didn't hit.. fried with jalapeños witch seemed alittle odd and the marinara to dip in was very thick My girlfriend got the bogo chicken sandwich and she enjoyed it. I got Caesar salad with anchovies which was simple but good and french onion soup First french onion soup that came out was clearly burnt and my girlfriend said i hope your sending that back ( which i can not tell you the last time we sent anything back ... like ever) The waiter said yhea it looked burnt i was hoping you were a burnt cheese fan. Correct i was not a burnt cheese fan. The second soup came out quickly i mind you and was toasted much less. Good call since i just got one really dark. This soup was uneatable. It was beyond salty. I had my girlfriend try it and she agreed. We sent this back too and just said im good. The waiter did take the soup of the bill and gave us a free bongo dip for a future trip in the next 90 days. Which we gave as a present to the kids grandparents that were making date night happen Id go here again because generally i have a good experience here... but it might be awhile

They had immediate seating, and we were hungry, so we stopped. The server was attentive and had a great attitude. The place was noisy, especially sitting next to a family with three small children. It didn't bother me, but some around us were bothered. They had a salad bar with hot food items, salad, and desserts. Hubby was considering it, but he said the hot food looked old and dried out, so he decided to order from the menu. I had the steak (medium-well) and shrimp with onion rings and a Caesar salad with dressing on the side. Hubby had a stuffed steak with a sweet potato and salad bar, and his boss had a filet mignon with a baked potato and salad bar. Hubby decided to try the ham pot pie soup. I was excited to try this too, but when he brought it, it wasn't what I expected. I expected to see a creamy base (like a pot pie). It wasn't. His stuffed steak wasn't stuffed. It was a sirloin (I think) on top of stuffing with brown gravy over the steak. The sweet potato was good. My steak was very well done, no medium at all. The onion ring portion was generous, and the shrimp were delicious. Even though the steak was well-cooked, it was still moist. I usually order med-well so I can heat it later and still have it moist. The boss commented that he needed to go to the kitchen and teach someone how to cook a steak. He did enjoy the sweet tea. Just like Texas sweet tea, he said. They both had dessert from the salad bar and commented that it was okay. There were other things on the menu I wanted to try. If I am in the area again, I will be back.
