This place is great ! Just got my bearings replaced along with some other minor things. The owner & mechanics are very helpful when it comes to letting you know what's wrong with your car with honest opinions also not to mention now a days with the economy, you cannot beat the pricing it's very reasonable and the work is well worth it. They also topped off my oil adjusted one of my door frames due to it being a bit loose & he even told me to come back so he can check on my oil from time to time. Just because this shop is "AAA" preferred, doesn't mean shit! Loch doesn't know anything and lies and scams people! I went in for a spark plug change and he told me i had a minor leak in my Valve Gaskets and didn't want to replace it because it was a minor leak. I paid $900 for spark plug change and not even a year later, my valve cover started to leak more! If they just changed my valve cover gasket when they saw leaks, I wouldn't have this issue. now goes another $900 for a new valve cover gasket, coil packs and spark plugs. avoid this shop at all cost! Loch is a very nice gentlemen, but will rip you off and scam you for your hard earning money. read more

My experience in the Fall of 2024 with Loch at Den's Auto Repair is first and foremost he is a person of great integrity and a big heart towards anyone who has the fortune to meet him. Matching that is his skill and knowledge of his trade. I learned all of this of Loch within an hour of him answering my call of an engine failure shortly after the shop had closed. He remained at the shop waiting for the tow truck to arrive with me, my family and car. I explained we were in a bind, 750 miles from home, and needing to be at our destination another 250 miles away the next day. He immediately set about diagnosing the cause of the engine failure while showing and explaining to me each step he took. I knew enough from my younger days of doing some engine maintenance to understand that what he showed me meant a blown head gasket and cracked engine and a repair that could not be completed in time to put us back on the road within a day. By Loch understanding our predicament, he showed an immense amount of kindness in staying after hours to look at the car. His quick and expert diagnosis made our decision easy to leave the car in his good hands for repair and rent another. When I returned to the shop after the repairs were completed Loch explained to me what had been done while showing me the restored engine. Seeing me off he gave me a couple of cold bottles of water for what turned out to be a long and smooth road trip home! read more

Had a wonderful experience. Amazing customer service. Not only did my initial problem get resolved, the owner stayed after hours to make some minor fixes I had failed to mention to him previously. He even made some extra fixes in front of me of things I wasn't aware of such as missing bolts, ties, and even improvised a latch for me to use for my arm that holds up the hood as mine was missing. I could tell he takes much pride in his work as he wanted me to leave in the best situation possible. It was extremely affordable! My parents' 1990 Chevy pickup started overheating and was leaking from the bottom of the radiator. While being towed home via AAA, the tow truck driver suggested several places to go to, including Den's. I researched them and decided on Den's, and I am SO glad I did. I called and explained my problem and Loch gave me an estimate which ranged a bit, as I was unsure which motor I had, and the radiator cost varied depending on the engine. When I got there, we went over the issue and I again got the same price range (which was much less than I had feared). They kept it overnight while waiting on the part (indoor in their shop, so it was safe), and kept me updated throughout. The shop is tidy - you might expect grease smudges, odors and dust in a small garage, but things are clean and neat. Truck was finished the next day and is running wonderfully. The total was what he originally quoted (the higher end, because we have the heavy-duty motor). While I hope my vehicles stay in good repair, I have confidence that I can go there again and not be taken for a ride. read more

Ok, this auto shop needs like 6 stars. I went there on a Saturday morning, without an appointment, for a used car inspection. I'm hauling ass all the way out from the bay area to check out a car, so am bereft of my normal trusty mechanic (Steve's Auto in Albany, also 5 sparkly stars) to give it a look-see before purchase. I chose this place because it was AAA approved & had good reviews on Yahoo, & was open on Saturday. Lok (sp?) was *awesome*. He did a very thorough inspection of the car, and told me what was right with the car, which parts looked new; as well as writing down a list of what was wrong, the level of urgency for the various issues, with the top 3 things circled, which he explained to me in detail. Not the normal treatment for a skinny (admittedly car-ignorant) white girl at an autobody shop. Dude was articulate, patient, and helpful. He *also* gets mad extra props for finding a nail in the tire, and fixing it, *free*. I ended up buying the car after negotiating down the price with my newfound info, and if I lived in Stockton, I would absolutely have had Den's Auto to do the repairs. So Yelpers, go & give these guys your business, they rock! One minor drawback: the shop's in a vaguely sketchy part of town. This is completely outweighed if you go on a Saturday morning like I did & discover the splendid farmer's market across the street under the highway. read more

After D & H failed to fix my prelude, went to Den's based off the (then) rave yelp reviews. Same problem, prelude not starting in the cold. Den's was quick to diagnose the problem within a day or two as a faulty relay. They were also quick to jeer at D & H Auto's distributor/valve clearance diagnosis. Well hooray sounds so simple, right? Two days and $342 later the car is ready. Two weeks later, same problem starts happening again. Take it back to Den's and surprise surprise, that new relay they just installed? Yeah, that one's faulty, too. Hm. Replace it again (for free) and guess what happens two weeks later? I think I took that car back to Den's twice more. They said that whenever they tried starting it there was no issue. Once I took it home, it wouldn't start. I just gave up after a couple months of these shenanigans. $342 for nothing! It seems clear to me that once a mechanic diagnoses the car, and that doesn't fix the problem, the obligation to fix that problem ends. They got their money so there's no incentive to fix it properly. It's not my fault Den's Auto misdiagnosed the problem. Extremely poor customer service. By saying there was no problem anymore, even stating they were intentionally recreating a cold environment, they were refusing to solve the problem. My Dad figured out it was the ECU. No issues since he fixed it in February. read more

If I could give this place a 1/2 of a star I would instead of giving them even one star! This place is HORRIBLE!!! First off, I took my car here, because there was a weird gasoline smell coming through my air vents, and the guy Loch seemed pretty nice. I called a day before to let them know I was bringing my car in, and they said that was fine. Took my car there at 8:00am and Loch told me to call him by 11:.00 if I hadn't heard from him. I called around 12:00pm, and he still hadn't gotten to my car. At 3:45 he called me & told me he would charge me $90 to take my gas tank out because there could be a gas leak. I told him that my car wasn't leaking at all, and I would think about it, because $90 seemed a bit expensive and if that weren't the issue, I would still have had to pay for the part, and for labor for him to fix what ever the problem was. I took a few moments to think about it, then called them back with my decision. Den the owner then answered the phone, and I told him that the price was a bit steep fo me, and if I had AAA would that help lower the price? Den proceeded to tell me how Loch gave me the wrong price, and it should have been over a $100 to take the tank out, and he would consider doing it for $95. I told him if I didn't want to pay $90 what makes him think I would want to pay $95?! At this point I decided to take my car elsewhere, and have someone else look at it. I was busy running errands, and told him I would be there to pick up my car as soon as I could, since they told me they closed at 6. At 4:45 I received a call from Loch telling me that they now close at 5pm and if I didn't pick my car up in the next 15 minutes he would charge me $50 for both Saturday, and Sunday, because the close at 5 sharp and that would be a total of $100. I was FURIOUS! I got down there at 4:59. Took my keys and LEFT! This is the WORSE PLACE EVER!!! All they wanted was to try their best to get money out of me. So I decided to take my money elsewhere. And thats not to mention that by the time I got my car and left I noticed that I was leaking gas!! MY CAR WAS NOT LEAKING GAS WHEN I TOOK IT THERE! DON'T TRUST THESE PEOPLE!!! read more

I was driving back from Northern California to Vegas when my back rear passenger side window dropped straight into the door. Going 60 miles an hour was like being in a wind tunnel. I knew I was on a budget and that it had to be fixed. I went by Den's and Loch fixed it within 5 minutes and was kind enough to also fill up my tires and all my fluids to make sure I had a safe ride home. I also was able to see how kind he was with the couple that was there before me. They had bought a car and had some major repairs they needed to do. He told him that even if he didn't do them, what they should make sure to ask the person that did fix the car and what to get in writing. I've been meaning to write THIS review too... I took my Infiniti J30 here on like 3 or 4 separate occasions a couple of years ago. This shop was fine then. I felt confided reccommending their services and I felt confident taking my vehicle back there. I knew they were pricing me fairly. My then-boyfriend even had the tranny on his civic replaced there because they were so honest. I also thought it was really cool that they were honest with a young woman. I never felt like I was being taken advantage of. HOWEVER, about a year ago, I took my Isuzu Trooper here when the engine was clicking (dried up, out of oil, needed a new motor). I didn't know what was wrong with it when I first took it in. They told me it was going to be $2XX to take it apart to look at the oil pan. I hesitantly agreed to move forward with the inspection. The next morning they called back and said "our mistake, the motor's so large it has 2 oil pans. a top oil pan and a bottom oil pan. we need to take the bottom oil pan apart and it's $8XX." I told them not to bother with that and that they must be smokin'. After I said I wasn't going to pay for that because it's too expensive, he then offered to just drain the oil to see if there were metal shards in it that may have come through the engine. That would be a definitive way of knowing if we were going to need a new motor. The price? $32. Screw this place. They ARE SHADY! They're swindlers. OR they like to play people a little and see how much they can get away with. By the way- the $32 job DID, in fact, give me the answer I needed. Why wouldn't they just start by doing that? Because they're a completely shady operation. Needless to say, I towed it to another shop to make the repair. Don't go here unless you already know what's wrong with your car or what exactly you want done. I will never go here again. And that's really sad because I actually used recommend them and say that I wouldn't go anywhere else... lame. read more

I have used Dens Auto Repair in the past with good service but this time was unacceptable service. I was having trouble with my car not cranking so I had it towed to Loch and he had my car for 10 days and couldn't figure the problem out so when I called him to check on progress he informed me he did not want to keep trying to figure it out and asked me to just come get it so I did took it to another shop and within 1 day I had a answer to the problem now my car is running again. So I'm not going to speculate on what exactly happen to it or what they did to it because it now runs and I wasn't treated like I was imposing on there time never again will I allow someone to treat me with disrespect like they did at Lochs shop. read more

First drop-off: Code-reading machine number one cannot read a code on a Toyota Corolla. Second drop-off: Code-reading machine number two cannot read a code on a Toyota Corolla. Third drop-off. Code-reading machine number three cannot read a code on a Toyota Corolla. Therefore, I must have a bad computer in my Corolla. $120.00. They did not even bother to offer a refund. True story. I had my Explorer towed here to have the fuel pump replaced after Midas installed a faulty pump, it failed in just 8,500 miles. I got a good (better than other places) quote on the replacement so I agreed to have it towed in. I dropped it off Friday evening right before they closed. Den said it would be ready by Monday. I called on Monday asking how it was going and they said it was definitely the fuel pump. I asked them when it would be ready and they said tomorrow (Tuesday). I had no problem with that as I had Tuesday off as well. Tuesday comes I get a call saying it was ready. I picked it up around 4:30, payed my dues, and drove off. I do have to mention Locke (one of the mechanics) was nice enough and fix the play in my gear shifter. The indicator was off by one gear. They adhered to the price that I was originally quoted over the phone. My Explorer is now back in action and I am once again a happy man. Thank you, Den's! We were on the Five freeway heading out for a vacation when our truck started acting horribly off. We halted the trip. Sure, the shop isn't in the greatest part of town and its a bit messy inside, but the owner is a smart guy, seems like a good dude, and he fixed us up for much less than I expected. Went in for a smog at CALIFORNIA SMOG PLUS on Mariposa. It passed smog, however I was informed that some repairs were necessary. They kept my car for a month and a half; when repairs were "complete" My car ran worse than it ever has. DEN'S AUTO REPAIR to the RESCUE!!!! After 2 days with them my car ran better than when I bought it!!!! Den's is THEEEE BEST!!! They found and repaired about 10 problems at approx. 80% cheaper than those bogus repairs made at the smogplace.
