Dr. Dobrin has been my primary dentist for a number of years now and he has always been great to work with for check ups, cavities/fillings and most recently, a tooth replacement. As dental care goes, they were fine. My problem with the place was their management and customer service, I thought it was terrible. The manager had no problem being rude to me. Perhaps the most frustrating part was my insurance run-in. Went there b/c the office was on the in-network list for my insurance but i had to see some specialist, and he wasn't in-network, but he or the office (who did a benfits check up for me) failed to tell me that until i got the bill in the mail b/c my insurance didn't approve the work he did. All so confusing and the office mgmt was of no help and again the rudeness didn't make it any better. I will be going elsewhere from now on.... read more

Came here on a recommendation from a friend. I hadn't been to the dentist in over 5 years (i know...) so I was really nervous. In the end, it was a (relatively) good experience. The admin was really good about how clueless I was about my insurance. It was two weeks after my appointment before I got her all the right information, and they didn't' send me a bill or notice or anything. They were also very helpful in figuring out where I could find everything. The dentist was nice. I only saw him for a bit, but got a good impressions. The hygienist was thorough but kind. She wasn't judgmental about my non-flossing, and kept up the banter the whole time. I did have a rough cleaning, but that really was my own fault. I went here at first because of their extended/weekend hours (and the fact that they are about a block from my apartment)...but the entire staff is super friendly and I became a big fan. The goodie bag to get after a cleaning visit is pretty great too (the usual toothbrush, but also some samples of other things....mouthwash, toothpaste). I always go during the extended hours, so I've never been in the waiting room more than about 5 minutes...also a huge plus. read more

When I moved to Boston, I was hesitant to trust a new dentist after going to the same dentist all of my life, but Dental Arts has earned my trust and I have had good experiences there (well, as good of an experience one can have at a dentist!) Everyone who works there is very nice and helpful, including the receptionists. My first time at Dental Arts actually did not start off very well. I dont know if the dental assistant who took my x-rays was new or what, but it was such a painful and long process. She kept messing up the placements and having to redo them, and every time she stuck the film in my mouth, she kept jabbing my cheek. After the horrible x-ray experience, I figured I would get the cleaning done and just find a new dentist for the next time. But when I met with the dental hygienist, I was very impressed so I decided to keep going back and have been very happy with my decision. I have seen a few different dental hygienists and liked them all, but now I only see Bernadette because she is excellent. Not only is she super friendly, but she really cares about making sure my teeth get the perfect treatment. I feel like she goes above and beyond every time I see her. Dr. Dobrin is my dentist there and he is also really good. He is very nice and uses extra gentle care. He shows me my teeth using a high-tech little camera to demonstrate what the issue is before he fixes it. You can also trust the prices they have you pay when they estimate what your insurance will pay. I paid for treatment there once and they didnt think my insurance would cover it so they had me pay for it. A couple of months later I got a check back from them for the amount I paid because my insurance did end up covering it. Other times they dont make me pay and I just get a bill later for what my insurance didnt cover. read more

These guys are just awesome. Dr. Lorr is a master at the art of painless dentistry. My wife and I sucked it up and, after many years of dentist avoidance, faced the music. We're glad we chose these folks. I've had several fillings and a deep cleaning done thus far, and the experience has been overwhelmingly positive, from the comfortable waiting room and excellent reception staff through the entire process. Teeth are a pain ..but seem to be pretty important..so we deal with them, right? I have been more than impressed with my service, billing tactics, and attitude from the team over at Dental Arts. I'm surprised to see them getting some flack on yelp w/ bad reviews? No one can expect anything in healthcare not to have a few billing snags -- I suspect some folks on here have unrealistic expectations...this reminds me of a horrible review I read for a bagel shop in n. reading and people gave it a 1 star because they don't like bagels --- right..that's helpful?! Maybe I've been lucky, but I have no issues with the folks here at Dental Arts. Sure, seeing the dentist is not one of my favorite places to spend time or money, I think giving a 4 stars is pretty darn impressive. I've been going to Dental Arts since 2008 and have no complaints whatsoever. They offer flexible hours and over all are a friendly bunch of people. I'm surprised that there are negative reviews of this place. Dr. Dobrin has always been very polite, accommodating, and worked hard to troubleshoot issues that I came to him with due to a prior dentist's errors. No clue who has felt 'upsold' if anything, I feel they've done everything to work with me. Before I came to Dental Arts I had an appt. at a Dentist in Inman Sq who was trying to make me do a deep gum cleaning for tons of money - I found out as of that week, my insurance didn't carry them, so I made an appt. at Dental Arts, who was covered. Dental Arts informed me that I didn't need that type of procedure and have been working with me since to keep the problem at bay -- this is 5 years later...still no deep gum clean thing... ps... I now have a new job w/o dental insurance and these folks have done everything they can to keep prices down for me. I'm very pleased. read more

When I was living in Davis Square while attending Northeastern University (2012) I needed to have one of my teeth looked at. One of my fillings had partially broken and I wanted to find out their rates (prices) before I had any servicing done. Instead of getting pricing, they said they needed to "examine my teeth" first. It sounded understandable, so I let them look around with some flashlights/mirrors or whatever dentists use. Anyway, after the exam, they printed out an estimate and send me on my way. My plan was to shop around for a good price. Over the next 2-3days, I continued doing my homework. But, that's when I received a BILL!! That's right, Dental Arts sent me a $200 Bill for the "examination" just for me to even get a price. Are they kidding?? It should be illegal to bill someone just for providing an estimate. They never disclosed that the initial examination would cost $$$ too. Lame, I'm very disappointed. Will not go back. BTW - I ended up going with another service and it worked out well. Just make sure you understand their fee structure before getting ANY service and shop around. read more

The actual dentist work was fine no complaints but the admin work was the reason for leaving this review. When I called to make my appointment I specifically asked if this office and the dentist I would see were IN NETWORK. I provided my dental insurance to the person on the phone and they assured me that it was. Then after my appointment I again asked if my insurance was IN NETWORK and the person at the counter again assured me it was. I asked if I would be billed for the cleaning and the XRays the admin person told me that the insurance should cover it all. Several months later now and I receive a bill for $200+. Apparently Dental Arts Davis Square ACCEPTS my insurance but is not IN NETWORK. Now it's possible that the people I spoke to were very careful with their wording and never specifically said the words IN NETWORK to me but come on. The front desk people must know which insurance they accept and which they are in or out of network for. I find it unbelievable that while billing insurance is such a main part of their job they wouldnt have a list of insurances they accept vs are in network on. They have no incentive to inform me that I would be getting a huge bill for these services that would be free at another office. in fact I believe they intentially omit this info whenever possible because it would mean loosing a prospective client. It's impossible to say if this is one admin's doing or a company wide or industry wide practice but either way its incredibly dishonest. Make sure you check with your insurance before making appointments because you certainly can't rely on the honesty of anyone in this practice! read more

I was directed to this office from the Invisalign website when I decided to straighten my teeth. The office was highlighted as one of the preferred providers. After the first appointment and consult with Dr. Izedian, I went ahead with about 8 months of treatment and could not be happier. Dr. Izedian got my teeth lined up like soldiers and he has me just wearing retainers to bed now so they stay that way. I grew up in New York, and had been going to the same dentist since childhood, but scheduling appointments to coincide with visits home had become a hassle. So I took the plunge and scheduled a cleaning here. The cleaning was very thorough and the hygienist Bernadette gave me a lesson about how to floss properly ( something I now know I'd done incorrectly for years) and she was extra careful around my sensitive gums. I now report here twice a year for cleanings and have done so for about four years now. The dentist who usually does my check ups is Dr. Dobrin. He recently removed an old silver filling and replaced it with a white one and both the injection and drilling was painless. He showed me the cavity before and after with a camera. He is upbeat and professional. The office is clean and the receptionists are polite. The attention I receive here and the level of service are exceptional. read more

I have to disagree with the negative reviews. I can't say Dental Arts is the best dentist I have been too, no that would go to Dr. Becker at Dedham Medical who is now retired. That man is a great dentist. In regards to Dental Arts, I have gone to them for the past five years since I have been in Davis Square. A friend at work recommended them, and I have not had any problems. I have had a tricky filling and I needed to go there a few times to get it fixed, but I was not billed for this...this was not a scam. They recognized the mistake, and fixed the probem. This same filling sharded off, most likely because I grind my teeth, I do wear a dental guard. However, Dental Arts fixed the issue no problem even though it may have well been from grinding, they fixed it quickly, it is smooth and feel great. No problems. Now about billing, they have been very fair with billing which is why I keep going back. For instance, my father just had a crown done and it cost him $2000 out of pocket. I priced it with my insurance, Blue Cross and they told me it will be $512 out of pocket for my crown! Drastically better. I see there are some horror stories about crowns on here, and that worries me, but I'm still gonna make my appointment because I know that if Dental Arts does a job that is less than stellar, they will fix it and they won't bill me for it. You can't expect perfection from anything in life. The actions after the fact are what we should be judged by. read more

Most people really do not like the dentist office but every time I go to the dentist @Dental Arts, I remember why I like going to the dentist. They are conveniently located in Davis Square, their practice is clean and they have a fully qualified staff. I have been going there for a long time and still see the same faces working there as well as new members that they have added of there team. Everyone there is very nice and willing to help from appointments, insurance stuff, to planning the best treatment plans for my teeth. Audrey cleaned my teeth and took my xRays. I had an experience similar to Jes at Dental Arts. My dentist was Brendan Loehr and after my first visit to their practice, he informed me that I have 8 cavities which I should take care of ASAP. I was surprised as I take care of my teeth but the dentist insisted that it's important to get these issues fixed soon. I recently found out Dr.Loehr doesn't work at Dental Arts anymore. I'm not sure if he was let go or he left voluntarily. I find this practice of over selling and scaring patients by Dental Arts very disconcerting. I did the due diligence before picking Dental Arts. I checked the reviews for Dr. Loehr and combined with the fact that he went to Tufts for dental school, I felt somewhat comfortable. if I could give this place one star I would. The only thing going for it is the location. I went in a few months ago because I need a dental implant done. I got a consultation, had a full checkup, with xrays, everything. That seemed to go fine. They told me they would contact the past periodontist who I had seen. They told me to come in and they would begin the work. My appointment was on a Saturday and at the last minute I realized I was supposed to do a long run that day (I was training for a marathon). I called a few days before to switch my appointment but they told me no. They told me that it was really important that I come in that day because they had to arrange for some specific equipment. Ok, fine. I didn't want to be a pain so I kept the appointment and re-arranged my run schedule. I go in that Saturday and the Doctor takes one look at my mouth and tells me she can't do the work. I have to have some other work done first. Ok, um, why wasn't I told this when I came in for a full exam??? So I came in for nothing. The Dr tells me to set up an appointment with the periodontist in the office as he is the only one who can do the work on my gums that is gating the rest of the work I need done. The periodontist is only in on Thursdays so it takes a few weeks before I get an appointment (for today). My appointment was at 2:30 but I was not seen until 3. That's pretty annoying that they were half an hour late for my appointment. But finally the periodontist sees me. He tells me that he is going to charge me around $350 for the work he is doing, but if I went back to my old periodontist it would be free. Are you kidding me? Again, why didn't the previous Dental Arts doctors tell me this???? They all work in the same office but apparently they don't communicate with each other at all. Obviously I'm not going to pay an extra $350 bucks. I have already spent close to two grand on this dental work and I have several grand more to spend. So I left. And I will not be going back. Ever. I would not advise anyone else to go. read more

I recently made the switch to a Somerville-based dental office and I'm glad I chose Dental Arts! I went in today for the first part of my deep cleaning, and Audrey made the whole experience much easier than I had anticipated (was definitely not looking forward to it). Listening to Charli XCX and getting dental work done was 10/10 - I can firmly say I would have never expected that combo and for it to have been an enjoyable time. Audrey really cares about your comfort, including her consideration of what you'd like to listen to while getting work done and her friendly professionalism. I went to Dental Art yesterday two get an Implant put it. I was slightly nervous but that quickly changed once I met with the specialist who was doing my dental work. It took them about 90 minutes from start to finish but I couldn't feel anything while they were doing the work. When finished she gave me very clear directions on what to expect over the next 24-48 hrs and was clear about what I can and can't eat. The whole experience was great and will go back in June for more dental work. They did my deep cleaning about a year ago and it was as painless as possible. read more

And I got the feeling they were telling me to get work done that I didn't absolutely need (after I switched, my new dentist didn't mention it, which could alternatively mean they are negligent, but since it's not bothering me I'm not too worried). THIS DENTIST OVERCHARGED ME FOR A DEFECTIVE CROWN, CAUSED ME TO TAKE MANY DAYS OFF WORK, AND WORST OF ALL CAUSED ME TO NEED A ROOT CANAL! This office should be closed for malpractice. Please don't go here. Worst dentist I've ever been to. I had a temporary crown put in and the next day it cracked. I went in to have it fixed and the whole visit took over an hour. Most of that time was spent waiting. Then the second crown cracked again. Unfortunately for me it was on a holiday weekend. I left a message and waited to hear back. When no one returned my call I gave in and called again. It was a week before they were able to fit me in. When I did go back I was the first appointment of the day but for some reason they were 20 mins late. I waited an hour and 20 minutes in the dentist's chair until I someone helped me fix my second cracked crown. Finally my permanent crown was put in buuuut there was a problem with the cavity they filled 3 weeks prior. They accidentally left a huge overhang and food was getting stuck to it. An hour and a half later the crown was finally in and I was out (so I thought). Two weeks later I had to go back because all the teeth on the left side of my face were hurting. I was told that the tooth that received the crown was infected and I would need a root canal. The point of a crown is to prevent this from happening. Fed up, I sought a second opinion. Another dentist took new x-rays and it is obvious that the crown didn't even cover my whole tooth, leaving sections open to infection. read more

3 failed attempts on a single crown. Mistaking me for another patient and commencing his work (thank god I realized they weren't starting the correct procedure). A tooth extraction and bone graft that are now KILLING me (my current dentist couldn't believe a professional periodontist performed it) and will require surgery. Every experience with them was worse than any other healthcare professional. Please, if you are reading this and looking for dentists, keep looking- Kappa Dental has provided way better care than Dental Arts, but so would pulling a mule's tail. Update: After extensive discussion with Dental Arts, some outstanding problems have been resolved. Put simply, their medical staff is ok (better dental services are available) but their administrative staff are burdened by a few "bad apples". I can't recommend them, but as mentioned some issues have been resolved. read more

I still can't help but recommend this place. Why? You go because it's efficient, clean, close to the T and easy to schedule with. On the other hand, you should stay for the people. I have yet to meet a less than gracious staff member at this place, whether it's 8am or 8pm. I still see Audrey after a year and a half because Audrey is hilarious, thorough, collaborative, and nonjudgmental in an already uncomfortable experience for most people. Nice and clean office, somewhat friendly receptionists, but the entire place feels like a scam. I feel like they will over bill me. I have no idea how much the entire procedure would cost, because the receptionist just said that the insurance will take care of it. I don't know, I didn't even get a receipt for services rendered. (Btw, they gave me a prescription that wasn't even up to MA code, the CVS pharmacist had to spend 10 minutes reconfirming my prescription because it didn't have any security features on it.) read more

This is the worst dental office I have ever been to. Dr. Young Ah Choi was rushed and uncertain. She kept leaving my appointment to see other patients and was working in such a rushed way that it was obvious to me that she was doing a bad job. I had to go to another dentist to have one of her fillings replaced because it was not sealed correctly and was giving me horrible tooth pain. She also came into one of my appointments and tried to numb the wrong side of my mouth. This was a horrible experience and I encourage those in search of a dentist to go elsewhere. read more

In the waiting room after checking in, I could hear the lady who checked me in asking an associate how to get rid of a patient she didn't like. The associate replied; "increase their copay and if they don't like it tell them go somewhere else." After treatment I checked with the front desk on my way out to make sure I did not have a copayment. To my surprise, the front desk manager tried to convince me that my insurance had changed its policy and it only covered 80% of the procedure. I told her I wanted to double check with my insurance company before making a payment because as far as I knew I was fully covered for this produce. After going back and forth with the associate who questioned her on how to get rid of a patient she turn towards me and said; " oh I'm sorry actually you are fully covered for this procedure." I said it was ok and left feeling disgusted with this office. read more

This place is alternately great and scary for me. I love the dentists and the receptionists (Hi Leo!) and most of the dental assistants. There is one lady though, that is Nurse Ratched on me. I've heard from some of my friends that she's been rough to them as well. My gums aren't in the best shape and I've got a touch of an exposed nerve somewhere in there and every single time, she pokes the damn thing! I swear its on purpose! I always troop through it, but next time, I'm requesting anyone but her! The dentists have always been great. I had a mouthguard made here and the first one didn't come out quite right and the dentist (I can't remember which one) worked forever trying to reshape it to make it work. When he couldn't and it became clear it would have to be sent out and re-made he was so apologetic and promised to put a rush on it. Lo and behold, the thing turned up in less than a week. Impressed, I was. So I say go here, and if you don't have insurance, as I don't, a cleaning is $102 w/o x-rays. Watch out for Nurse Ratched though... read more
