This place is alternately great and scary for me. I love the dentists and the receptionists (Hi Leo!) and most of the dental assistants. There is one lady though, that is Nurse Ratched on me. I've heard from some of my friends that she's been rough to them as well. My gums aren't in the best shape and I've got a touch of an exposed nerve somewhere in there and every single time, she pokes the damn thing! I swear its on purpose! I always troop through it, but next time, I'm requesting anyone but her! The dentists have always been great. I had a mouthguard made here and the first one didn't come out quite right and the dentist (I can't remember which one) worked forever trying to reshape it to make it work. When he couldn't and it became clear it would have to be sent out and re-made he was so apologetic and promised to put a rush on it. Lo and behold, the thing turned up in less than a week. Impressed, I was. So I say go here, and if you don't have insurance, as I don't, a cleaning is $102 w/o x-rays. Watch out for Nurse Ratched though... read more

Great experience! I personally have had terrible experience with Dentist hence me going here. Audrey was my dental hygienist and she was amazing walked me through what was being done and she made me feel extremely comfortable. I told her that I didn't want to be leaving in pain and she took extremely good care of me. Also the dentist office is very modern the front staff was very welcoming and walked me through what Insurance covered for my next appointment. Well, I'm still glad to have this place so close to my house, although I am not happy that this office suddenly stopped taking my insurance. The stoneham office still takes it, but not the somerville one...??? how inconvenient. BUT- I wouldn't be upset about that if I wasn't so happy with the services I have gotten here. Everyone has been very friendly and patient. The doctors have not rushed me on any services that werent necessary. I like it here, nice staff, good doctors, clean and good location. I've also never had a hard time getting an appt. I've been going to Doctor Dobrin for several years and I find his work, patience and calm demeanor great for me. I'm not overly fond of dentists and yet find myself at them quite often... British teeth! Sigh. He tells me what he thinks needs doing - shows me on the screen and then I choose if I want to have it done.. Like I was telling my boyfriend yesterday, I really like this dentist office. Unfortunately, I needed to have a cavity taken care of yesterday and I hadn't been through that since I was a kid. I remember how miserable cavity fillings used to be - and my experience yesterday was the exact opposite. You wouldn't think teeth drilling could be pleasant, but it was. Dr. Dobrin is so gentle, especially with the Novocaine injection. He and his assistant are very pleasant, explain everything in a way that makes me feel included - and I didn't feel a thing. Likewise, I had a wisdom tooth extraction here a couple years ago (not impacted) and it was also quick, painless and, amazingly, pleasant overall. I've always liked the hygienists as well. I recently had Katie for a cleaning and I recommend her. I had a cold sore on the corner of my mouth when I came in and she did everything she could to be gentle. She used some kind of electronic instrument for the cleaning itself that sped up the process - I would recommend that again even if you don't have a sore mouth! I don't even live in Davis anymore but there's no way I would switch from here. Dental Arts has reasonable prices and I feel like they take a variety of insurance plans. Basically, I no longer dread going to the dentist. I highly recommend them! read more

i've been seeing Dr. Dobrin for years and I adore him. I've heard really mixed things about the other people there, but I only see Dr. Dobrin. The front desk staff is lovely and a pleasure to work with, the assistants and hygienists are great, and when I've had to take time to pay my bill they've never been rude about it. I recommend Dr. Dobrin to all my friends, he's really caring and competent. Also, I've had several instances where I needed followups and got them for free because Dr. Dobrin said so. I used up all my insurance last year, and went in for tooth pain that wound up being something else, and he told the front desk not to charge me if my insurance didn't cover it. read more

Dr. Dobrin and Dental Arts and Associates has been a life saver/miracle!!! For me, at least, it has been the first dental experience I had that was quick, easy, and efficient!!! I have always had a small mouth, complained by previous dentists. They have always had to pull my mouth open and make me hold it there until my jaw was sore and tired and I was aching in pain. Enter Dr. Dobrin at Dental Arts and Associates. All he used was a pediatric "small child" block/wedge to prop my mouth open. Why doesn't every dental office carry one of these??? Anyway, Dr. Dobrin efficiently and professionally did an assessment of my mouth. The office even has a camera that can show you your teeth, so you can actually *see* what the dentist is talking about and why you need certain procedures. Dr. Dobrin gives you a heads up on how many visits you will need, and tries to make it as minimal as possible. The administrative/receptionist staff are very friendly and knowledgeable too, explaining insurance, etc. -- Note that I've discovered Dental Arts and Associates are actually charging reasonable, lower, comparable rates for procedures- as opposed to the expensive rates on an office at Newbury Street that I also went to previously. All in all, very pleasant dental experiences; I keep up with brushing and flossing; and I will continue to go to to Dr. Dobrin/Dental Arts and Associates, knowing that I am in good hands!! read more

This office is very professional, the office staff is friendly and I am always seen promptly. After being a patient for 3 years I left my job and no longer had dental insurance. I went looking for a less expensive alternative. (Yes, they are a little expensive.) I went to Gentle Dental and - ouch! So back to Dental Arts. Dr. Dobrin epitomizes "painless dentistry." Kathy was my hygienist, and was terrific, but she has now retired. Bernie took over for her and is friendly and professional. I have been a patient of Dr. Dobrin's for over 15 years, first in Brookline and then at Dental Arts Associates. He is by far and hands down the most sensitive, caring, competent, and professional dentist I have ever seen. He does a great job and takes the time to care and is very dedicated to excellence. I have also had work done by the periodontist there. Dr. Gonzalez is very professional and does a great job as well. I am rather shocked to see the negative reviews listed here because I have only had good experiences all these years. I was treated who I believe was Dr. Kasouha, but he did not introduce himself to me. Upon entering the treatment room he immediately started to work on my tooth without communicating any part of his plan. When I went to pay, I was informed that my insurance does not cover composite fillings on back teeth and I would be required to pay the difference. At this point the filling was already in my mouth so I had no choice but to pay. It would have been nice to know that in advance so I could make an informed decision. Extremely unprofessional Dental Hygienist. Beware, take photos of your teeth before you get work done there...make sure you have evidence of your current conditions before you let Dental Farts bust your teeth. This happened....they claimed "It was like that." I think I know if my teeth are broken. Unfortunately I couldn't hold myself together because they were insinuating I'm just a complainer, since I've had issue in the past about their work, and they diligently took notes of my complaints. Rather than say "we'll see what we can do to fix it," they say "Well, you've complained before." How insulting...that's not how you deal with an unhappy customer! What kind of comment is that....maybe you should take complaints seriously! NEVER AGAIN! Anyone have any advice on a Dentist and Hygienist I can trust, who values customer service? These people take for granted that you NEED to get your teeth cleaned twice a year, and that's constant clientel and income for them. They should realize they have many competitors within a 2 minute walk, and I suggest everyone think hard and review other places before committing to this place. read more

I would like to start by saying that I went to this office for a routine cleaning and left with an infection. I may have gotten the infection when the (dentist?) gave me an unnecessary periodontal exam or maybe it was when the other (dentist?) hastily and violently cleaned my teeth. Either way it was very painful. Mistakes happen. But what is really grinding my gears is that I had to go back to pick up a prescription which apparently equals a consultation to their billing dept and they just sent a bill for 500 bucks. 500 bucks for a mistake that THEY made. I thought the infected gum line hurt but the bill made it a lot worse. I'm going to fight this one to the death. Oh ya and at one point they were using the wrong chart and couldn't figure out why I didn't have 20 filings like they were expecting. Total amateur hour. Don't go to Dental Arts. Davis Square has about 30 dental offices in a 1 mile radius. Save yourself the trouble. They are the Supercuts of dentistry. read more

Great dental practice. I continue to see them despite having moved outside of the city. They have state of the art equipment, do a thorough cleaning (thanks Audrey) followed by a detailed exam by the doctor, and they use text messaging for appointment reminders which I really appreciate. Whether you would consider this a good dental office really depends on the type of person you are. If you are one of those blessed people who has never had a cavity in their life and just go to the dentist for cleanings and exams that result in needing no dental work, then I'd highly recommend Dental Arts. I will say that I think the dental hygenists there are great and have had some o fthe best cleanings there. Unfortunately I cannot say the same for the dentists and other staff. I had a particularly bad experience here where I had 2 cavities filled and ended up the next day or so in intense pain, could barely eat, etc. I called up the dentists office and was told "well we can't see you for 3 weeks". Well I ended up getting it fixed at another dentist - I needed a root canal! It was suggested that possibly while getting the cavity filled the dentist drilled too deep, though ya know maybe not. Maybe it was a freak thing - but to be told they cant even see you after messing up your teeth is pretty bad. And on top of that the other tooth they worked on originally ended up needing to also be worked on and get a medicated filling. Way too much stress and money for one dental experience. read more

I have not been to the dentist in YEARS (like, double digits, maybe?) and am a super chicken about the dentist. I went to dental arts because my husband goes there and always has a positive experience. I checked in easily and quickly, the environment was very clean and comfortable. I was greeted by Audrey. She was AhMayZing! Helped me through the process, answered all my questions and hooked me up with some sweet tunes to listen to while I had my cleaning. Eventhough I need to go to an oral surgeon to have a couple teeth extracted I WILL BE BACK because the service was just that good! I've been going here for almost 20(!) years now, ever since I was a kid. I've been there since they had some pretty interesting couches and folder charts and they have seriously stepped it up. Audrey, my hygienist not only gave me an appointment (on her lunch break!) when I was trying to get an appointment in at the end of the day, but she was also so quick and thorough at the same time--she noticed things and gave me tips that I have taken. Dr. Choi was also fantastic and filled a bunch of cavities in one go so I didn't have to make more than one appointment and go through that experience more than once. The office was unfinished and under construction, and the whole experience seemed unprofessional. It was one visit and done for me. The dental care is first rate, the dental professionals are really helpful and informative, the billing process is good, and overall this is by far the best dental/dentist service I've ever been to. Ever since I moved to Boston over 5 years ago Dr. Dobrin has been my dentist for majority of my visits. I can only say great things about him and the other doctor that treated me a couple of years ago whose name I don't remember anymore. In addition to regular cleanings I've had a bunch of work done there including two porcelain crowns, Zoom laser teeth whitening and a few cavities. All those visits were painless and smooth. I had a very strange experience here. They were rushed and pushy. They didn't seem like they wanted to answer my questions or give me any time. At the end I asked the dentist if it would be good to use mouthwash and he answered "Mouthwash is only to keep your teeth white." I don't know if they thought I was some kind of pushover or inexperienced student but I know mouthwash keeps your teeth clean and your mouth disinfected plus it prevents gum disease and keeps it from spreading. Interesting though since I went to see them because I had gum disease. Hmmmm more money for more surgery that they would need to do if my gum disease got any worse. Don't recommend at all. After moving to Somerville we were excited to find Dental Arts right around the corner. Unfortunately proximity didn't equal good customer service or, more importantly, dental work. My experience was the most painful cleaning I've ever had including several pokes from a sharp instrument - something that never happened before or in the cleaning I've had (elsewhere) since. On top of that these folks seem to take pleasure in their rudeness, not only at the front desk but the dentist and folks that do the cleaning. I searched high and low for dentist's with good ratings and finally settled on Dental Arts last week. I'm not afraid of the dentist per se but I certainly don't enjoy it - and after skipping the dentist for 3 years while out of the country I was not looking forward to it. What a nice surprise my visit was! I had an 8am appointment and when arrived (at 7:50) there was no one at the front desk. Then, when they noticed I was there, they told me to just have a seat and no, I didn't have to fill out any paperwork - this made me incredibly nervous since I have insurance and did not want to get stuck paying out of pocket. But only a few minutes later another woman came in and handed me a pile of paperwork - phew! Turns out they just take a few minutes to get up and running in the morning (and on a Saturday, I can't blame them). The hygienist, on the other hand, was perky and very awake for that hour of the morning! She was incredibly nice and explained everything she would be doing - puts a mildly nervous person at ease. The cleaning was as comfortable as a dental cleaning after 3 years can possibly be I think. And very thorough. Then the dentist popped in and he actually spoke to me! Most dentists I've been to barely even say hello - they just pop in, stick their tools in your mouth and then are on their merry way. Not here! We chatted it up while he looked at my xrays and then he explained to me what he was looking for (fascinating really). Then he took a look in my mouth and used this fancy mini camera to take pictures of the areas he was concerned about. Then he showed me the pictures and, using layman's terms, was able to tell me why he was concerned. He suggested I have a sealant fixed on one tooth and also suggested a night guard since he saw some signs of me grinding my teeth at night but he never oversold me on the procedures. All in all I was already happy with the experience but then, before scheduling my next appointment, the receptionist researched my insurance and told me exactly how much the new filling and the night guard would cost on my insurance - just so I knew before booking. That has never happened for me before! I've already booked future appointments here and have zero anxiety about going back! read more

I started here as a little boy petrified of any dentist. By the time I was a teenager I'd received plenty of chair time. By my mid 20's Dental arts had gone through a huge transition phase and new ownership has taken over. The first thing I noticed recently is the perfectly balanced staff of the front desk. Secondly, I was greeted with the best personality now known on a more comfortable basis of keyarra. Hands down hunny girl can run the whole show with her eyes closed. You want results speak to that lovely young woman. Fast forward to the dental staff. I was called upon by a very clean, well mannered, well dressed dental assistant name jackie. I was on my cell phone she went out of her way to stay quiet, respect my phone call and give me silent gestures where to hang my coat and put my dental bib on to keep me as clean as possible. She walked and spoke me through the entire process. Hands down best dental assistant on staff. Now to the doctor. I've been seeing Dr. Dobrin for many years now. He's made it very easy to keep me comfortably, attain bedside manner if I may, let me know when and if something is right or wrong and make professional decisions based on my comfort and his knowledge. He is hands down the best Dr. In the area. He has done two crowns for me both a easy and gentle process. Not only is he a good dr. He's a wonderful man. He cares genuinely. Dr. Dobrin has one of the best businesses around, he sets no limit and his staff always supersede. The reflection of the business is certainly based upon his love of staff, his clients and his own well being for others. He clearly has no flaws. If it means your in the chair getting work or he's over cutting his break...he'd rather be with you in the chair. Way to go to the entire Davis square dental staff. Mind you I live 43 miles away and 65 minutes...I keep coming here even with that distance due to the reflection of the staff. All about money. For years this Place has been there and excepted all kinds of insurance. I was never alerted of them no longer excepting my insurance until I went and tried to pay and was told I had to pay out of pocket. Which I did. I was in the process of having major work done and was told I needed to have this work done immediately or I'd lose the tooth or worse the infection could spread. Scared I called around but nobody could see me for months. I gave in and made the appointment here since I was already being seen they could get me in sooner. Big mistake. One of my appointments I paid off in a couple of payments. I figured since I was able to do that then I'd obviously be able to do that for this. Well, after they worked on my tooth I was told I COULD NOT pay in payments and they refused to finish until I paid them almost $1,000 in full. Now I'm stuck with a half worked on tooth that could give way and now I owe them hundreds of dollars for NOTHING. They tried to push that Carecredit on me which I am ineligible for [no credit]. Not to mention the added interest. Unless you have insurance and you know it will pay off your work, STAY AWAY. read more

Do not go to this dental group. I was a patient for 12+ years basically for teeth cleaning. 5 years ago, the hygenist told me I needed my gums scaled. She even wasted my time with sticking a measurer in my gums. Never had it done - 2 years later she commented about how good my gums looked after the scaling. Now I'm wondering if they billed the insurance co for a service I never had. But that is nothing compared to my recent episode. After my last cleaning in March 2012, I was told I had a cavity. I went back and had the tooth filled. I never had a toothace until this filling. I went back last week and was told by an arrogant endodontist that I needed a root canal. I told him that before I proceeded I wanted to know the cost. I was shocked when they told me the cost was $3,000 and my co insurance cost would be $1,500. Also shocking was that they wanted $650 on the spot before they proceeded. I told them that I don't have $650 in my bank account never mind $1,500. I left there still in pain and realized my only option was to find someone to pull my tooth. But the next day, I decided to see if I could find a dentist that I could afford. Low and behold, I found Dr. Millstein on the internet. I called him at 8:30 am, met him at 9:30 am, had the root canal done and was back at work at 11am. He was awesome and the cost for the whole procedure was $200. I will never go back to Dental Arts again. Besides being cold and unfriendly, they are robbing you with their prices.
