I have been looking for a new dentist after not being satisfied with my former dentist office. I wish I found this office sooner. Everyone is very nice and helpful. They are so patient and so kind! I've never had a dentist actually listen to me before. I'm a high maintenance dental patient as I usually need extra numbing and a bite block. Usually dentists don't listen and then I have to wait until I'm in excruciating pain to get more numbing. I was recently in search of a new dental office and this happened to be in-network. I was a bit hesitant finding a new dentist, but decided to give this place a try given the Yelp reviews. THANK YOU fellow Yelpers because you steered me in the right direction again! I called the office and they helped me set up an appointment quickly. My previous dental office was always crazy packed. I went into the office and was greeted by Anna, Office Manager, who was very pleasant. I made my way into one of the rooms and David, RDH, started the exams. He was very detailed and talked me through the process and what he found. I wrapped up with a deep cleaning and he was great! Since each side is an hour long to clean, David would talk me through some best practices to keep my teeth and gums healthy. Place is a neighborhood gem. Staff are all extremely welcoming and friendly. Place is clean and they have a handheld xray which is way better than the old school machine ones so it is a much faster process. I am 68 years old and needed to have all my remaining teeth extracted and new dentures made. For 6 months, I survived on mashed potatoes but slowly and surely,the new dentures started to work, I can now eat a steak. Hitomi Dentistry is one of the best dental office ever. The Dr. Kanemaki is such intelligent , clean. He saved my daughters molar tooth. She was about to get a root canal and Dr Kanemaki saved her tooth. My son referred me to Dr Kanemaki. I brought myself , I referred a friend from church . I will bring my other two kids and the rest of my friends and family . The staff are so nice specially David. David cleaned my teeth and talked to me while cleaning my teeth . They take PPO met life which is why I first decided to come cause this place is near my parents' place but I keep coming back even from the west LA and make the super long drive because I love this office. Anna the receptionist is super professional and friendly, as well as the rest of the staff! I've had so much work done here I can't say enough about everyone. I've never been excited to get teeth cleanings or for dental work but that all changed when I started coming to hitomi. The whole staff is great from the hygienists to assistants, and obviously the main dentist Dr Trent. I used to get my teeth cleaned in Beverly Hills by some fancy dentist who had all kinds of gadgets, including a massage chair, flatscreen TV's, and theatre goggles. But none of that makes a difference if your dentist is NOT sensitive to the fact that no one likes having metal objects used to dig around in their mouth. I mean--sorry that I didn't floss 3 x a day and I have some plaque, but does that mean I deserve to have my teeth feel like their are being mined for gold? So I went to this place based on a referral. Sure the place isn't in a "nice" area and the office is a bit retro, but the staff was very friendly and Trent really put me at ease. My children (ages 6 &4) and I got teeth cleanings there and my kids enjoyed their appointments so much that they asked when they could return. Was out of town for a couple of days and one of my teeth started bothering me. Was in the Pasadena / El Monte area and searched for a dentist. I found this dentist (along with 2 others), and this dentist was the first one to respond to my voicemail this morning. I was well received on the phone when I called, and they were able to get me in to see the dentist within an hour. The dentist was very kind and professional as well as the assistant. The work that they performed was also high quality. I am only giving 4 stars since it was my first visit, but if I go again in the future, a five-star rating may be well-deserved. Make sure you get receipts, and make sure you understand your insurance plan. I made the mistake of trusting Hitomi, and they charged me a $50 copay every time I went. Not until I read my insurance policy carefully did I realize I should have not been charged. Had I not figured it out, they would have kept charging me. And since I didn't ask for receipts, I only got refunded the copay I charged on my debit card and not the one I paid cash. read more

been my family dentist for years and was always treated right until now. trent is a great dentist but the owner is money hungry .went for a tooth ache that a year ago they said was a reseeding gum line and to brush with pronamel. after $140 for xrays and no work done they say they need to remove three teeth and do lazer treetment at the cost of $8500 dollars? it's been two weeks i am in horrible pain and totaly disappointed in humanity.do yourself a favor do some research this place is a joke and they don't have your best interest. read more

I needed to find a dentist that was gentle because I've had some pretty traumatic experiences with bad dentists (nerve damage from previous wisdom tooth extraction). When I walked in, the staff was very friendly and welcoming. Dr. Trent was so gentle, and he took time to answer all my questions and explain everything to me (even though I knew there was another patient in the other room). It really gave me peace of mind and helped me trust him. The assistants are just as wonderful, too! He really takes time to know his patients, and I left with a great feeling. My wife and I love going to Hitomi Dentistry (In fact, she's been going there since she was 5, over 30 years!). If it weren't for their great customer service and dentistry I wouldn't go to the dentist as often as I need to. So I know my teeth are in better shape because of them. Dr Trent is a fantastic dentist (USC grad - great program there) and is involved in the process from start to end. This is the first Dental experience I've had where the doctor did everything himself and really took care of me. i'm actually gonna go to my six month check up this time! Hands down the BEST dentist experience I've ever had! Dr. Kanemaki and the staff are truly the hidden treasure of El Monte. They are so wonderful that I'm almost hesitant to write this review because I'm afraid that people will discover this oral hygiene paradise and somehow taint it. But alas, the world deserves to know how great this place really is. Located on the corner of Lambert and Peck adjacent to a shoddy liquor store, one would not expect first-rate dentistry in this unsuspecting burgandy block of a building. But that is exactly what you receive when you walk through those double glass doors. Their mission is to obliterate anxiety and nervousness brought on by past traumatic dentist experiences. The beauty of it all is that they make it seem so effortless. I am so impressed by their professionalism, compassion, and genuine concern for the wellbeing of the patient. Even though I have now moved to San Diego, I would gladly make the 2hr (sometimes 3.5 ....gurgh LA and OC traffic -_- ) drive every 6 months to visit them. Which would YOU choose? Hitomi Dentistry is my new home for dental care! They've been there for 37 years! i couldn't believe it. The staff is SUPER friendly and they make you feel super welcome. As soon as i walked in, the receptionist (i'm assuming) smiled and said, "you must be Juan." That made me feel 100% better. Tod and the dental assistant that helped were amazing, as soon as i finished my paper work (which was minimal) they called me in to get started. The assistant took care of me and made me feel comfortable and was extremely positive about the whole scenario. Dr. Trent is a superb DDS and if every dentist were as good as he is, the dentists office would be a place you would like to visit instead of loathing it .By the time is was finished, i had a new filling and i learned how to read an xray of a decayed tooth. If it weren't for Yelp.com and the flagged sign they have on the building, I WOULD HAVE NEVER KNOWN THEY EXISTED!!! I called and spoke to Serena about my situation (wisdom tooth) and let her know how much anxiety I have when it comes to dentists, she walked me through the procedure made me feel really comfortable and was able to set up an appointment for me two days later. Dr. Kanemaki was great! Really number me up so I wouldn't feel a thing & with some elbow grease popped that sucker right out. The lady at the front desk was also very friendly. I went in for a check up since the last time I saw a dentist I was 18. Now that I'm 20, I thought I should get things checked out. I was greated by Anna, the receptionist/office manager. Everybody is super friendly and super funny. They easily put me at ease, even though I don't feel comfortable in the dentist chair. I have been living a block away from this office and I never walked in to check the place out. Don't let the tinted windows fool you. The interior is tastefully decorated. I was lead in by Serena, one of the regular RDAs. She's a social and happy person. She kept me distracted, in a good way, until the doctor came in. Dr. Trent is the BEST!! My previous dentist was so insensitive to my tooth pain fears. Dr. Trent on the other hand is very conversational and makes everything sound and feel painless. My appointment was for a resin composites to cover the tiny cavities I had between my teeth. I didn't think I needed to be numbed for this small operation and I didn't realize that I had been shot with numbing agents until I saw the needle. He tricked me! I felt him pinching my cheek and it distracted me from the pin-prick. During the whole operation, Dr. Trent and Serena kept me distracted with their funny and interesting conversation. A fun fact about the doctor is that his nickname in the office is "Dr. Soft Hands." I'm gonna go on a limb and say it's because he is gentle with your teeth. I certainly didn't feel anything. Everything was finished in a timely manner. I currently don't have dental insurance, but Hitomi Dentistry has a program called Care Credit which gives me time to pay off my bill with a stead flow of monthy payments.
