Over the years I have needed various procedures: fillings, crowns, whitening, tooth pulling, bone graft and tooth implant, as well as the standard checkups and cleaning. He is empathetic and welcoming and does excellent dental work. He also has a new tooth cleaning system that uses vibration rather than a sharp pick. The staff made me feel very welcome and they all seem to work very well together to make the patients' experience go smoothly. I haven't seen a dentist since the Covid Outbreak and have been dragging my feet to make an appointment, but I'm glad that I met Dr. Mao and his staff! Everyone there is very friendly, courteous, and kind. When my husband got sick on the day of our original appointment, they rescheduled me with no hassle and deep understanding. I had a stain on one of my front teeth and two cavities and they were able to treat that on the same day of my first visit. All throughout the day, Dania at the front desk, Tammy who took my X-Rays and assisted in my procedures, Connie the hygienist, and Dr. Mao would answer all my questions, explain what they were going to do before they performed their tasks, and checked on my comfort level. The staff and facility preparedness made it very safe for covid measures. One patient at a time is allowed in and never comes in contact with other patients inside. Went in for new fillings. One of the new fillings filled the space between my teeth so I could not floss. On my return visit, doctor used some sort of saw or blade to open it but was not precise enough and made a cut to side of my mouth. 1. The whole staff is so kind and friendly. I had to come in with my one month old, because my sitter bailed. I hoped hed sleep through the apt, but whe. He didnt, the office staff (whose name I've regrettably forgotten so sorry!) Took care of him while I had my cleaning. I apologized so many times, but everyone, including Dr. Mao were so understanding and welcoming. Dr. Mao even said "we know how hard it is to take care of yourself and we will help". I was so pleased that someone would be so kind in such a situation. 2. The wait and service time are minimal at best. I hate going to doctors offices and waiting for 20 minutes outside only to wait 20 minutes inside, for 20 minutes of service. Here I barely have time to sit down and grab a water before im being whisked away and treated immediately. They really respect your time here. 3. The Dental hygienist, Nguyen, is so fantastic. I can't say enough about her. She is thoughtful, asks questions and gets to know her patients, and then remembers everything, despite the fact that I only come every 6 months. She is so good at what she does, even deep cleanings arent troublesome. 4. They are great with kids. I dont mean just newborns either My two year old son actually loves going to the dentist because of the staff here. They explain everything to him, and really help him to feel comfortable. 5. They care about their patients. When my son was born, they sent a congratulatory card - signed by the whole staff, and with genuine well wishes. They all ask about my boys, and my husband and mother, and honestly remember everything I tell them. 6. They care about the community. They participate in programs that give to the less fortunate and contribute to local programs in the area from donating to elementary schools to little league teams and cheer programs. I've known Dr. Mao since College and once he opened up I brought myself along with every single member of my family and every single member of their family in here. With or without insurance, Dr. Mao works his hardest to make sure you that he takes care of you!!! Some of my family members are here on Student Visas and Dr. Mao takes extra care of all of them. They're especially afraid of going to the dentist as they have heard horror stories with Mainland China Dentist...all of those fears are put to rest when you come in here. So I first came in not knowing why I was in so much pain when I first walked in the office with a last minute appointment. The waiting room was very welcoming with this huge comfy couch, aside from the little fridge with juices and waters, and little snack area. The receptionist was super friendly and the wait was super short. I was called quickly and first given a quick little tour of the place and also learned Dr. Mao had been in dentistry for 12 years and graduated from USC which was pretty neat. The place itself is very clean, organized, and professional. I finally got my X-rays done and realized I had a root canal. So Dr. Mao pre medicates me and has me come back within 2 hours. As soon as I come back the procedure was done within 3hours, but Dr. Mao is very professional, fast, and efficient. He's also very informative and makes you feel right at home. I been to quite a few dentist in my life, but i came here recently due to a living social deal! The dental experience was okay! I mean the office is really nice and everything was really nice, but it just didn't feel like right. The staff was knowledgeable but at the same time they were quoting me overprice. I told them i didn't have insurance and it might kick in in a few months, but nothing was mentioned about helping me solve money issues or anything. They constantly call me every month to get my fillings done, but they also were not conservative with my treatment. They wanted me to get every filling done. The dentist was nice, the staff was nice, the location is gorgeous, but sometimes i would forgo those things to have a more conservative treatment from a caring DDS. read more

I found Dr. Mao from Groupon. I followed the instructions and made my appointment online. They called me to actually schedule the appointment and called again to reconfirm. When I got there, it was very empty, probably because it was 9 in the morning. I didn't know what to expect since it's been a while since I went to the Dentist. All I knew is that I'm looking for someone better than my previous one. I got in, the assistant started taking some x rays, she took 2. Developed them and then Dr. Mao finally came out. He talked for a bit and then started to examine my teeth. He started reading off these numbers, basically identifying each tooth that had work done and I was freaking out because I didn't know what any of it meant! I mean, do I need to get more work done? (The biggest fear...LOLS) He told me 2 things, that my most recent dental work, a filling done to replace the old one because it cracked, wasn't done correctly, it's not attaching itself to my tooth. There's a gap and that can be a problem. And then a deep cleaning. The deep clean just sounds painful! But I opted to just do my normal clean and think about the other two services. He started with the clean. The instrument that he used was powered, so it went by really fast! I now know why I've stayed away from the dentist, all of the drilling sound scares me, it's like... what are you doing? That doesn't sound good. You're going to hurt me. I'm on my toes waiting to see if I all of a sudden get excruciating pain! BUT I don't. The plaque removal process was actually less painful and a lot quicker. I practically got in and out in 30 minutes. O and a different thing, his application asks for your ssn... I feel kinda weird that a dentist is asking for that, what are they going to do with it? read more

This rating is strictly for the hygienist named Nguyen. She was not friendly, not even a hello or hi to her patient. Having a bad day? What disappointed me most was after the cleaning, she did not provide any water to the patient to cleanse her mouth! The patient had to spit a few times on many layers of paper towels and while all that happened, she didn't offer anything but looking. How unprofessional! Dr. Mao and the receptionist are very friendly. I would bring the patient back for cleaning again in the future if there's another hygienist working there. I came in right at my appointment time, signed in and was brought in immediately for X-Rays, moments later Dr. Mao reviewed my X-Rays, examined my teeth and gums, did a brief consultation and addressed any issues I may have had. The hygienist immediately got to work and cleaned my teeth quickly and thoroughly and scheduled me for my next appointment right then and there! I love the efficiency of this modest office.
