I have never written a review till now. I am so beyond upset and disappointed at this place. I have been coming to Dental Express-in Santee for years now and never have experienced what I have today. I had made an appointment to get my tooth looked at due to some pain. On their website they have a convenient way of scheduling appointments yourself. I scheduled my appointment for today 2/25 by picking the tooth ache and pain option. My appointment was at 10:00 am. I check in and waited in the lobby like everyone else. I waited for 20 minutes and started questioning why i hadn't been taken back yet but they seemed to be a bit busy. No big deal, I kept waiting. 45 minutes went by and finally they took me back to a room. I was a little frustrated at this point because i've never waited that long for an appointment there. Never once did they tell me or anyone else they were running behind. I get back to a room and the dental assistant did some x rays. He then told me that they weren't gonna be able to fix my tooth but would do teeth cleaning. He told me I scheduled it as a routine check up and that they were pretty busy. Which seemed wrong to me since I know how I scheduled it online and never had a problem before. I didn't say anything because I felt bad they were so busy and maybe by some chance I did mess up on their website. He then told me it was gonna be a minute till I see the doctor and that he'd check up on me. I waited for another 45 minutes and never once got checked up on. I was irritated at this point. The doctor finally comes in at 11:30. My appointment was at 10:00. He looks at my teeth for about 3 minutes and tells me I need to get scheduled for a teeth filling...and a teeth cleaning. Now i'm Mad. I waited for an hour and half for them to do absolutely nothing. The doctor tells me a lady will come by to get me on the schedule. I still didn't say anything because I didn't want to be a "Karen". Even though I was extremely upset. The lady comes in, looks me up and down. Gives me a dirty look and says, "The next available appointment will be in July". I started laughing because i'm thinking to myself this has to be a joke. She says "or I can try to call you if someone cancels but that's all i can do for you". She was extremely rude and made me feel super uncomfortable. I am now sitting there trying to figure out if I want to wait 5 months with a tooth ache. Which I think is ridiculous. She never even offered for another dentist to see me sooner. She rushes me and says "so what do you want to do". I just told her no thanks, don't schedule me. I'll be going somewhere else. She shrugs her shoulders at me and says "okay". She walks out the room and never said i'm sorry, thank you for coming, and didn't even show me the way out. I've never gotten treated with so much disrespect and never witnessed so much unprofessionalism at a dentist office. If they were so busy they shouldn't have schedule so many people at the same time. This place needs to learn how to communicate with their patients. I walked out and I will unfortunately never come back to this dentist office. I now understand why there is more than one bad review about this place. read more

I had an appointment today at 10 am for my son. After waiting an hour in the waiting room I asked the receptionist how much longer until he would get called back. She then informed me they only have one hygienist today and someone was supposed to text me yesterday to let me know. And that it will be another hour before he can get seen. Don't take your kids here!! I scheduled an appointment with them and told them my boys were 2 and 3. I told them my 3 year old was having significant pain. They scheduled me for the following week. I walked in and they seemed surprised they were kids. We go to the back and they brush their teeth and then said they were done with the "cleaning." I told the doctor my oldest was having pain so she looked at his teeth with the mirror and said he had cavities but she couldn't do anything about it so she recommended me to a pediatric dentist. Now my son has to wait another week with tooth pain because dental express failed to tell me they can't treat children. The only thing they seemed concerned with was making sure they had the correct insurance information and all they did was brush my kids teeth. read more

My wife and daughters went to the dentist this last week and they always have a good experience. This time in particular was extra special. Shantel was very intentional with our kids (10 & 3 yrs) and it made a big impact! My wife and kids were in Food 4 Less and Shantel walked up behind us in line and my THREE year old said "hey! You're from the dentist" with a big smile (with zero prompting from my wife) SHE RECOGNIZED her and proceeded to give her a hug when she left. Our oldest remembered her as well! It was a very positive experience and it showed up a week afterward. The staff there are great. Thank you Shantel for being so intentional, kind and taking your time with my kids! Worst Experience in a Dental office, with Dr.Sam. My newly 18 year old son decided to have his wisdom teeth extracted in the dentist office; I paid $2500, for the procedure. I watched in horror while Dr, Sam, twisted and pulled the 4 teeth out! A weak anabiotic was given, along with the weak pain medication. The next three days my son was in massive amounts of pain all four incision sites were infected. He had four dry sockets. I called the overnight number without a callback. There was no follow through. I finally called another dentist Dr. BITA, to the tune of $400, to fix Dr Sam's incompetence; Dr Bita cleaned out the infection and gave him a strong anabiotic along with pain medication. We won't go back to Dental Express in Santee Ever Again! Dr Sam will never work on my family's teeth again! I saw my son in so much pain, he would pull out chunks of flesh out of his gums, for weeks; Dr Sam's botched extraction, infected dry sockets, and non existent bed side manner was gross negligence. If I had more time and energy I would have sued Dr Sam! Avoid this procedure and this Dentist! read more

this was seriously the best dentist experience I have ever had! My doctor was Abigail and my assistant was Alfred. They were the absolute dream team. I am terrified of the dentist, I cry every time. Except this time. I had a root canal done by them, and they made it painless and so comfortable. They even played Disney music for me, after finding out I'm a Disney person haha. It was amazing. Through the entire process they made sure to make me feel ok. The whole appointment seemed like no time at all. Its the next day now and my once aching tooth feels sooo good! It was a true dream. I have personally never been to this dental office, but decided to come here for my son since his father already comes to this location with his other children. As I walk in, I am semi greeted by the receptionist, who asks if I have an appointment and asks if I have my ID. She then asked for my insurance card. I clarified if she needed mine or his fathers? While telling her that I only have a picture of it on my phone, she interrupts me by saying both and then tells me to email the picture of the card. I asked if the email was necessary and went on to explain that the card should already be on file as my sons' father and sister both come to this location and his insurance is the primary one used. She then repeated herself saying I need both cards! I took out the card and stood there waiting, only to watch her place my ID off to the left and say "they'll call you when they're ready" while turning her back to me. I stood there quite confused why she would ask for items and then not take them. Lady you do this everyday as your job, not everybody is as familiar with the insurance and co-pay policies and it's ok for people to want an explanation of the whys. If that is too much for you to handle then maybe you should find a job that doesn't deal with customer service. Respectfully. read more

I walked into my appointment extremely nervous and just an exam of my gum pain behind my wisdom tooth and ended up being able to extract my wisdom tooth the same day! I just have to say Dr. Mays and her team were extremely kind and welcoming. The service as well was really fast I went in at 12:00pm and was out by 1:05pm. WOW. I will be coming back here for regular check ups and clean ups. If you are somebody with medical as well this is an amazing place to go to because I was able to not spend a single dime with it!! They're always so good with my son when it comes to getting his teeth cleaned. We had to come in two visits for his cavities and each time they were so patient with him. He's not a fan of shots but what kid is? Best part is that they refer to great dentists when they can't take care of the service in house! One thing I never look forward to is going to the dentist. I had a bad toothache, so I called Dental Express to see if I can get an appointment ASAP, and thankfully they scheduled me for the first appointment the next day. The staff is super friendly and I did not have to wait more than 5 minutes to be seen. Dr. Marty truly cares about taking care of you and making sure he answers any questions. They give you a bag with a toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss on your way out. One of the staff members pointed out that I get a free powered toothbrush, since I checked in on Yelp! Dr. Marty is my families Dentist and have heard nothing but great things about him so I decided to give him a try and boy am I glad I did. Dr. Marty and Brittany are super friendly & caring! They both give off good vibes. I hate dental stuff and it always make me nervous. I always require nitrous for every dental procedure but with Dr. Marty, none of that is needed. I went in for a check up and had two cavities and got lucky enough have them do the filling all on the same day. My wife was experiencing a painful tooth. I called on Tuesday @ 9am as they were opening and was told she could do a 12 noon appointment but she may have to wait for about 1/2hr. My appointment today was at 3pm. After waiting in the waiting room for over a half hour, I was waiting in the back for over another half hour before I asked someone if they had forgotten about me. They said Dr was running "a little behind".. I said my appointment was over an hour ago, that's more than a little behind, how much longer am I going to have to wait? It was after 4 already and they close at 5. She said they would send a different person so I said okay and the girl came into the cubby and said "oh you're just here for a second opinion on fillings" I said no, I'm here for an exam and cleaning. They just looked at each other and I started explaining why I came to this dentist, because the last dentist I went to had become a increasingly aggressive with me, and my mouth bled for two days after the last time I had a filling.. but I was here for exam and cleaning, and she literally turned around and walked away as I was talking to her. ‼IF YOU HAVE ANXIETY ABOUT GOING TO THE DENTIST, THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO‼ I've had anxiety about the dentist my entire life. Past experiences were never good until NOW. Before coming here I was a patient at Western Dental Lemon Grove...AVOID! They are extremely rude and only care about the money. Dental Express Santee on the other hand go above and beyond, from customer service to patient care. As soon as I walked in, I was kindly greeted and checked in by the receptionist. I told her that I wanted the staff to be aware that I have a Dialysis Catheter on my right chest and to be cautious around the area. She made a note on my chart and made sure it was known. I waited less than 10 minutes to be called into the back. The first thing we did were X-rays. Now, I am someone who doesn't like things being put into my mouth so X-rays have always been difficult for me. However, the dental assistant made sure I was VERY comfortable and took her time with the X-rays. Once the X-rays were completed, the hygienist came in to start my cleaning. I told her I was very anxious and she did not start until I was comfortable. THE ENTIRE TIME she made sure to ask me if I was okay..NUMEROUS times and also had some encouraging words throughout the cleaning, which I really appreciated. I was very comfortable with her doing my cleaning and had little to none anxiety by the end of my cleaning. Overall, 10 out of 10 experience and my anxiety for the dentist has gone significantly down. read more

Express should not be in their name. My 84 yr old mother had a 4pm appt today. Lobby was full, so I asked receptionist if she would get in right away since we were right on time. She said they are running behind 15 to 20 minutes. OK. Fine. I would run some errands. At 5:15 she finally gets in an exam room (they close at 5!). She was freezing cold and ended up with a headache probably from the stress. But wait, thats not all. About a year ago I took her here & she waited (in the exam room this time) for 2 hours. They did not have the right size tool to put the pin in or some sort of problem like that. They were having it delivered from another location. It never arrived and after two hours they let her go and rescdled her appt. This is an 84 year old women with severe mobility issues. Just sitting that long is painful. Problem may be she never complains so she often taken advantage of. ?Ageism? Or a squeaky wheel society? Now she has to resdl again for a problem with the pin that they put in last time. OMG. Unfortunately this office has gone down hill. My first few appointments with them were great, however once I needed something more than a cleaning it went wrong. I had to get a root canal/crown redone. I was referred out to a different Dr to get the root canal done, then had to go to Dental Express to get the new crown. When they first put it in the Dr knew that the spacing was off, he even said it to me. But said to come back if it bothered me, I was back a few weeks later. Fast forward to 3 months with the new crown, I've been back 3 times to get it put back on after falling off. The reason... they KNOWINGLY use a cement that IS NOT compatible with the type of crown. The Dr literally told me, if it comes off again we'll just have to redo the whole thing with the correct crown/cement. Mind you, through all of this I am pregnant, now have a newborn, and am most likely going to have to go back at some point so they can redo the whole crown correctly. I will not be going back here, only to get the crown redone so I don't have to pay another $1k+ for someone else to just do their job correctly the first time! read more

Due to extensive dental work, I've been going to Dental Express for a year now. I love the staff; they're all so friendly and treat me like I'm somebody special. Dr. Marty took control of a disastrous situation and made everything look marvelous. So, with him and his super friendly staff, I highly recommend this office. It's very clean and has interesting decor. They even have a miniature train running overhead in and out of tunnels throughout the office. It's very soothing. This by far was a horrible first time experience, the front desk VALERIE (girl with super long eyelashes) was extremely rude and had a attitude problem and rolled her eyes when I asked her a simple question about how much longer it was going to take, the attitude was totally unnecessary. The dentist told me after taking my x-rays that I didn't need them removed, and "at this point with the way they've grown, it would be a pretty crazy and fun job for the specialist." That's word for word hahaha. I went to another dentist afterwards who actually showed care and interest and told me my wisdom teeth needed to be removed urgently. Not only was she patient and careful she explained every step of the way thoroughly. She went above and beyond what I could afford and she didn't have to. Dr. Patel is beyond amazing! Her overall aura is contagious and helped me overcome my fear of dentists' after so many yeaarss. I found Dental Express via Yelp and scheduled an appointment for my daughter's regular check up. My daughter is 3 y/o and felt completely comfortable here especially compared to her previous dentist back in LA. After such a great experience for my daughter, i decided to schedule a visit for myself. Staff was all very friendly and courteous. I got 5 fillings done in a day and was in & out of the clinic within 1.5 hrs! Horrible service! I came in for some fillings and turns out i only needed 3 but was numbed for 4!!!! When DR HERNANDEZ realized i didnt even need a filling on one of my sides of my mouth he just scoffed and said oh whoops!!!!?!? I have horrible anxiety about the dentist and had asked beforehand to be numbed the max amount they could give a person because every time i come in they never do and i ALWAYS feel the drilling when they start. And again this time i felt it once again!! I wasnt consoled after or asked if i felt comfortable to continue which i shouldve been because little did they know i was on the verge of tears and a panic attack!!! I will never go back there again. Ive had friends say this dentist office has said she needed almost 8 teeth pulled and she went to another dentist and it was only 2! This is by far the best dental office that exists !!! Dr Marty is an earth angel !!! After having a never ending saga, lasting almost a year long of a problem with a crown over a root canal that was due to a careless doctor at dental express in point Loma. I was so blessed when the stars aligned me to be in Dr. Marty's chair and redid my crown. He did it very quick and I did not have to come in endlessly to have 1 million different modifications like I did with the last one I can finally eat on my left side of my mouth again with no pain and massive headaches. read more
