Chipped my front tooth yesterday. My previous dentist just retired. Dental Works fit me in at 7AM today --very timely! Besides fixing my chip, he (Dr. Work) noticed a couple inflammation issues I'd been ignoring for two months. He fixed my chip perfectly and will address another issue next week. Dr. Work is a master of his craft! I feel very blessed to be a new patient. The staff is also very helpful re. insurance questions (Maria). The quality and extent of service given make this a Best Buy. I've never thought this of a dental experience before, but I'm actually very happy to be going back! read more

Extremely unhappy with the way they handled themselves. While at the clinic, they gave me a treatment estimate after speaking to my insurance. It sounded reasonable so I went ahead with the treatment. Much to my surprise, a few weeks later I have received my insurance bill. Which turned out to be 5 times(!) As much as their estimate. Upon contacting the office, all they had to say was "we have no way of knowing what your insurance will cover or not". Well then, don't contact my insurance and offer an estimate altogether! This was not an emergency, nor even a 'must do' treatment. Have me go home, and call and check for myself, rather than lowballing it so that I go ahead with the treatment, and then get stuck with a hefty bill. I will take my and my family's business to a more honest clinic. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. My wife and I just moved to Scottsdale and were in need if a new dentist. Neither of us had visited a dentist for about a year, which of course is our fault, but things happen. We checked with our insurance, read a couple reviews on our insurance's website, and it seemed like a good fit. We scheduled our initial appointments at the same time. We both had full x-rays completed, as neither of us had x-rays done in a couple years. Mine went smoothly, but my wife had to get her x-rays redone twice as they somehow lost the first set. An inconvenience, but nothing too terrible. The exam was pleasant. The staff was friendly, and doctor herself was kind. They advised that they didn't have time to complete a cleaning and that the first visit was just "an evaluation" and I'd have to schedule a cleaning next time. I found this strange, but since I hadn't seen a dentist in a year, figured it was necessary due to work that needed to be completed. I was told that I had four cavities, and my wife was advised that she needed two onlays and one filling. We found it very strange that my wife needed onlays, considering she has excellent dental hygiene and had seen a dentist more recently than I had. I also found it odd that the area that I had been complaining of tooth pain was not part of the four cavities. I'll start off by noting that I have very good insurance., my deductible is only $100. I've had the same insurance for a number of years, and even with more expensive work done such as crowns, multiple fillings and even a root canal, I've never paid what I consider an exorbitant sum of money for dental work. It's to be expected that for dental work, you can a couple hundred depending on what's done. We were quoted a total of $3,839 before insurance, and after insurance were expected to pay $1,272 out of pocket. Just for four cavities alone, I was quoted almost five-hundred dollars. I couldn't believe the price. They wanted us to come in for two sessions of cleanings due to excessive buildup, and then again for the work that needed to be done. I decided to take a print out of the work that needed to be done and the quotes and see a different dentist for a second opinion. My wife and I visited another dentist in Old Town Scottsdale for a second opinion. We were told that none of the work we were quoted was necessary, and in fact I had only two cavities (including the area that had pain), and my wife had a single cavity. Since Dental Works charged us for x-rays and didn't send them over to the new clinic like I had asked, I paid for new x-rays for both of us. The cleanings, exams, fillings, and even the new x-rays at the new clinic came out to less than $200. Not only am I floored at the outrageous price I was quoted at Dental Works, I'm mortified that this clinic wanted to perform completely unnecessary work on both myself and my wife just to charge my insurance and myself more money. Avoid this dental clinic at all costs. They don't care about your health, they're just here to overcharge you for work you don't need. read more

Unfortunately, I've spent too much time in the office of Dr.s Mary Ann and Terry Works office because of my own neglect. However, after receiving referrals, and all the work I have had, I can say they provide first-class service to their patients and their teeth. They have straightened, sealed, filled and cleaned my teeth; all the time and expense was worth it. The office is immaculate, staff professional and friendly, so overall they deserve a 5 star rating. read more

Going to the dentist has been traumatic my entire life. I am ecstatic to have found Dental Works. Their solid reputation put me at ease. I did not require any sedation and yesterday's visit was deep periodontal cleaning, two fillings, and an extraction. With my prior dentist I would have been anxious and stressed out before arriving. The heated massage mat in the dental chair was a great distraction for a dental phobic patient. The staff is very calm, caring, and friendly. The facility is easy to find and has plenty of parking. I have found my dentist for life and I will be highly recommending Dr. Mary Ann Work and Dr.Terry Work to all my family and friends. They are a refreshing change to your dental experience. read more

If you want to feel tortured during a flossing this is the place to go, most painful experience every time. They're constantly trying to up-sell you, and when I called to cancel an appointment the receptionist acted mad at me and actually asked why I had to cancel, as if it was any of her business or relevant. Do not go to this place. I went there a year and a half ago and I am still receiving a bill for over 500.00 after I physically walked the EOB into the office showing that I owed 0.00 The staff claims they do not have it and continue to send me a bill that is incorrect because my insurance company paid for the bill in full. The numbers on the invoice do not even match the EOB. I would never reccomend this place to anyone because they are just trying to rip people off and when you call in to fix the matter over six times they are extremely rude and pretend it is no ones job especially the manager and Jessica. They will not even give me the number to the corporate office where the billing is done. NEVER go here and I certainly will never return. If I could give it less than one star I would. read more

I cannot thank Dr. Terry & Dr. Mary Ann Work enough for getting our employee, who works as an essential service provider, in for an emergency tooth extraction! As a long time client, I know they always save room on their schedules daily for emergencies and 2nd opinions. However, to be available during our current health crisis for a TRUE HEALTH crisis is really amazing! Infection can spread so quickly, so getting him into their office privately to avoid potential hospitalization was huge not only for him but for our entire business. I needed major work immediately, not only did they get me in the day a call was placed in, all the work I needed was done on the spot. The office is super clean and the staff was AMAZING. What a great dental team! I've had care from both Dr. Mary Ann and Dr. Terry. Both have always been very straight forward with me regarding what's needed. All appointments have been on time or very close to it. I'm usually interested in learning why somethings are being done and like to ask questions during my visits. Some providers don't like this; during my last visit Dr. Terry Works made sure all my questions were answered. He was thorough to begin with so I didn't have to ask too much. I've been to them for 10+ years with the exception of 2 years spent in California. Very glad to have had such a stellar dental practice for so long. read more

I recently moved to AZ and was in need of a dental hygienist. With Dental Works you actually get the dentist to clean your teeth. Up until a few years ago I had only had a family member back east clean my teeth and I have to say the experience is very enjoyable. For one of the more advanced cleaning techniques they even gave me a pair of head phones to use and it made the experience very relaxing. Very glad I found a very good dentist right off the bat. I was a patient of Dr. Works for years and years. I am not sure what happened but I can't seem to get to the doctors because of an office staff - Mary Sue. I prepaid for Invisalign through a special with Care Credit. I had the full amount paid and was waiting to be able to start the treatment. However, every time I went in for an appointment, I was told I needed more work before I could start the Invisalign. I did as much as I could with what I have. I have paid thousands and thousands and can't afford any additional work - I keep having crown after crown replaced (implant fell off and after paying to replace it and it is all cracked again). I then asked if I could get a refund from the Invisalign PREPAYMENT because I just couldn't afford all the work prior to the Invisalign I had already paid for and Mary Sue told me I had agreed to have the money I paid to Care Credit for the Invisalign applied to my regular bill (I have proof of paying out of my own pocket and my insurance).This is not true I never gave any such permission and I have emails from her that contradict her statement. When I asked for a summary of my account to review where the amount was applied I had paid Care Credit - I received a paper - HANDWRITTEN with charges and credits (she had handwritten in "Care Credit amount applied". Just as a side note, I had given them my personal VISA card to have on file to pay any bill - never again will I do that! I have referred a number of people here and am not sure what has happened - the caring family practice has changed. I had a hypertensive emergency -passed out and called to say I couldn't come and was asked by Mary Sue "well how long until you can come in today" - I received a $50 no show - which I do understand (even after 12 years as a patient). However, when I my handwritten statement of account I had two additional no shows for the next two months but have voicemails from her saying she needed to get me rescheduled (I never had an appointment). I am very disappointed and frustrated not only because of my medical, financial, and family medical issues but the fact that I have referred so many people here and trusted in their practice and billing. read more

Work and the office staff are so concerned for my comfort and to improve my dental health they did everything to make my visits comfortable, relaxed and provided me with exceptional dental treatments. When I came to Scottsdale two years ago for a job move, I needed to find a dentist who took my dental coverage and was close to home. Dental Works was recommended by my co-workers and what I got was so much more than just close and covered. Dr's Work are both knowledgeable and professional. The real key is their chair-side manner and how that carries over to the entire staff. Every time I need work done they give me a full explanation, taking the time to answer all my questions and being sure I understand my treatment plan. They offer treatments they think will benefit me, but allow me to choose what fits my budget and my insurance plan. During procedures, they talk to me about the progress and explain what they are doing and why. But they don't ask questions while my mouth is full and I can't answer. The staff is always welcoming and fun. They recognize me personally and treat me like family. They seem truly interested in me and what else is going on with me. They are willing to spend time discussing the payment options for any costs over my insurance coverage. I was really impressed with the long term payment options they offer for really large expenses that I needed and that they scheduled on my time frame; even working with me to "spread out " my treatment plan to get the most benefit from my insurance. That made necessary treatment even easier to have completed. I can say this is one of the best dental experiences I've had in many years and many places getting dental care. I am extremely upset with my experience at Dental Works. Writing a negative review is time consuming, but if I can help others then it's well worth the time! I went in there to have a wisdom tooth pulled and an exam on an implant. I was told I would be charged $100 for partial X-rays, $88 consult, $350 CT scan, $315 to pull the tooth. I trusted Dr. Work when he said he recommended that I have a $350 CT scan. He was so busy pushing me to get an expensive scan that he didn't even have time to pull the tooth! I had to come back after he and his wife had lunch! When he told me I needed periodontal work on the implant, I decided I should get a second opinion from a Periodontist. I called two Periodontists and it turns out both of these specialists charge $185 (ALMOST HALF) of what I was charged for a CT Scan. His office refused to match the price of the other specialists! How was I to know when I was sitting in a dental chair if the prices quoted to me were fair or in line with the going rate? Also when he pulled my wisdom tooth, he left me numb. After more than two weeks, I still have some numbness! They said I signed a document stating numbness can happen. I had the same dentist for 24 years before he retired and never had ONE problem! It is difficult to find someone you can trust to be good and fair. I will never go back to this office. They told me I owed them $100 for the X-rays at the time of payment but for $50 more I could have a full set. I went ahead and paid $150. I contacted them and said that I wanted the $50 credited back to my credit card because I wasn't coming back in for a full set. They wrote back that the X-rays they took were $115 so they would only give me a $35 credit! This is unbelievable and a lie! To make things even more disastrous, my significant other who was a former patient and referred me to this dentist, stopped in the office to discuss the situation on my behalf because I wasn't getting anywhere with them. He wanted to talk to someone and they refused to speak with him and told him to leave. He said he wouldn't leave until they spoke to him so they sent the Police to his home with a trespassing warning! The entire experience was most unfortunate. I would not recommend this practice unless you don't mind being overcharged! If you have gum issues, do not let him cut on you! Go get the latest and greatest laser work done by a Periodontist specialist!! I have an update. Thank goodness I went to see a peridontist today who very professional and impressive. AND NOT PUSHY!!!!!! She diagnosed my implant and told me I have an infection in the gums. I will be having laser surgery which is MUCH less invasive than the Ging flap procedure where they cut the gum away. Dr. Work's wife told me he doesn't do the gum procedure often, but when he does, he does a great job! Ging flap is old school. Laser is the latest and greatest with much less down time and better results. read more

I can't say that I've ever been more disappointed by a dentist. I had a crown placed and it fell off twice -- at the 3 year mark and then again, at the 6 year mark. I have two other crowns going back 10 years and never had a single problem so I know it has to be their work. The first time they replaced it for free. I had mentioned seeing a sign in the office that indicated they warranty their crown work for 10 years. The second time, they charged me, telling me they never warranted their work. The dental assistant also insisted on taking an x-ray and said I wouldn't be charged ("they had to do it for insurance"). They charged me for that as well. During the re-gluing the second time, the dentist suggested it was a problem with my tooth that the crown came off, blaming me for his poor work. Later, when I got the bill, I called and explained what I had been told re warranty etc and they denied all of it -- essentially calling me a liar. I am not a liar. Bottom line: stay away. read more

I went to a much better wiser dentist and he said I had absolutely none and my teeth are perfect till this day. No thanks to Dental Works they would have drilled my non existant cavities which they did to my sister. You cannot trust them all they want is money from you, not to help avoid them! I was referred to Dental Works by a friend, who I'll never be able to repay for the favor. I've had the best experience here. From the front of the office right up to Dr. Work. I've neglected my teeth for a long time and they were in bad shape. Dr. Work took the time to sit with me and go over all of my options, and I never felt judged or talked down to. We made a treatment plan and he let me choose what I wanted to have done. His main goal was to get my mouth healthy. Dr's Terry and Mary Ann have done more that just help me get my mouth healthy and get my smile nice, they have changed my confidence. I used to cover my mouth when I smiled, now I show my smile to everyone, and I'm not even done yet. we are only half way through my treatment plan and I'm constantly getting comments about my very nice smile.
