I had a dental appointment for the tooth filling, on May 26th, and at first, they did numb the right side of my mouth, so I would not feel much pain, but once they told me that the numbing will be healed for 2-3 hours, my mouth was STILL numb and sore. It took my mouth, ONE WEEK, for it to heal! I do not recommend their service, as they kept telling me to take antibiotics, even though it was not the issue, and it could've been prevented, if they did not open my jaw for too long, or did not stay in one place to numb my mouth for 4-5 minutes. I was supposed to do one more filling, but didn't proceed, due to the pain, and would really like my money back, for lying! read more

Awful service! Had a billing issue for 6 months and kept getting pushed around to different people and zero response from any of them. Switched orthodontist 4 times in the time of treatment and kept delaying treatment. A supposed 15 months of braces has been over 2 years now. read more

I had cleaning and polish- the dental hygienist was wonderful. Did a great job, gave the perfect amount of feedback as she went through the cleaning; and they are always great everytime I have a dental visit The office personnel are always welcoming and helpful. I was in for a 7am appointment and the gentleman who did the intake was really friendly and helpful The dentist , although I only saw for a few minutes, also friendly and encouraging. I have been receiving service here at Dental Works in Crystal Lake since probably close to 2010 or so. They do a very thorough job, and the hygienists and Dr. Betzelos are very kind. In fact, every one in the office are very friendly. Additionally, I appreciate Dr. Betzelos and office workers bc I feel as if he, as a dentist , is more holistic and conservative so he only recommends procedures if absolutely necessary and also they respect my health choices for myself and my family. read more

This place have very poor customer service, they don't care much about you, they aren't reliable on the schedules as well. If you want a good services and prices, then it is ok not great. I'd previously only gone to independent, single dr practices. This was quite the different experience. There were numerous suggested services. Some of which I was told would likely not be covered by my insurance, so I rejected them. After my services (my daughter, and myself for 2 visits), I paid for my copays and expected portions of the bill (post insurance) and assumed that I was finished. Months later, I got a bill for $66, which was not a complete statement, but an "activity since last bill". Since there was no "last bill", it was difficult to understand what they had charged me for, what I had already paid, and why I owed money. When I called their billing department to question this, I was repeatedly told that my insurance company must have "downgraded" me. After several attempts to get the very polite woman to explain exactly what that was, I determined that she was saying that the insurance company thinks I could have chosen a less costly option. I explained to her that I was never given a choice of options from the dentist, so I pushed back, telling her that in the end, I had paid for my portion of services that I expected to be billed for, and did not expect to see any balance due. At that point, she said she would pull up my EOB, and after she reviewed it, she said that Dental Works had not applied their contractual amount, and that after doing that, the outstanding balance was $0. I can't believe a big chain such as this would "forget to apply" a contractual adjustment. Check your bills before you pay!!! Makes me want to take my business elsewhere. read more

Don't go here. My wife switched the whole family to this place because of their more convenient hours. My second visit and they are suddenly telling me that my teeth are in horrible condition and I need to set up multiple trips for a full scaling. The total cost being over $500. I told them no thanks, went back to my original dentist with the less convenient hours and paid out of picket for this exam, Dentalworks charged my insurance for a full visit though they refused to do the cleaning saying it was pointless without the scaling. Needless to say my original dentist confirmed that no scaling was necessary and that my teeth and gums were in excellent condition. Don't go there, this place is a scam trying to push extra procedures on you to make money. read more

This dentist is A-OK for us. I feel like I need to write a positive review on the actual dental services, other than what it costs. Let's face it, dentists are not cheap. We should have all become dentists. Our problems would be a thing of the past. I've always found their office staff to be extremely pleasant and willing to work with you on scheduling. Their hygenist is the BOMB. She's so great and gentle. Dr. Steve is awesome and he's always had a straight-up attitude with me. I had an emergency with my crown and they got me in right away and put me out of my misery. They don't offer payment plans, but they do take Care Credit. I use that for many medical procedures, vet bills, salon procedures, you name it. It takes the credit risk off them, which I can understand from their perspective. Why did I not give this 5 stars? A while back, they had a Dr. Lee, who was supposed to take off a bad filling and put on a crown. He didn't do a great job and left me with a hyper-sensitive tooth (hence, emergency crown visit above). So that whole experience did make me a little gun-shy about whether I needed that in the first place. Dr. Lee has long been gone, and everyone else is great. Their dental assistants have always been really nice and pleasant. We've been patients here since 2009. They are a preferred provider of my dental insurance, which is why we have stayed with them. read more

Dental Works makes the dentist seem almost enjoyable... Well.. No one looks forward to the dentist but this office makes the experience as pleasant as possible. The office is very clean, the entire staff (dentists, hygienists, and everyone else) is very friendly. They gave me a toothbrush and floss, SCORE! Went in for a regular office visit and came out with a treatment plan for nearly 6500.00. The "dentist" , "hygienist", or whoever does the work, barely talks let alone explains the reason for all the work they want to do. The girl at the front desk was very nice, which is good...because that will be the only person you ever talk to. Needed x-rays for a second opinion and they charged me 25.00 for a piece of paper that took them 2 seconds to print out. If you are looking a personable, informative, dentist... you need to go elsewhere. BTW, my 2nd opinion was 4000.00 cheaper. read more

I was dreading our appointment with Dental Works. We had heard from several people how they would upsell me all kinds of additional treatments. Due to our insurance changes, thank you "Affordable" Care Act, we were forced to leave the dentist whom we have used for many years. While we were still we're still whacked with almost $150 in x-ray charges, our overall experience was pleasant and professional. There was no up-sell of new treatments. Partially because of my expectations being very low due to the multiple negative Yelp reviews, this was easily a four-star experience. I believe it is just as important to call-out when a business does something right as it is call out when they form below expectations. We will be going back and have already scheduled our six month follow-up. read more

I wish I could leave a lesser rating! I got a tooth pulled, left me with lock jaw, was 1/2 an inch, now has closed to a quarter inch! You try eating anything with a quarter inch opening. I's been 2 weeks Dental works has been putting me off even seeing the oral surgeon. I had to make an appointment with a different DR so I can return to work. Getting an appointment was easy! Despite a negative prior experience with this group I decided to give them a second chance, not a good idea! 1st time I went for a routine cleaning and 45 minutes later I was being told I needed over $2K in dental work! I promptly left. Went back to my old dentist (which is not in my insurance network) showed her the "work that needs to be done list" and told there was absolutely nothing on the list that I needed. 2nd visit was to have a crown put in place after a root canal (done elsewhere). I had crown put in, I told the lady at front desk to tell me exactly how much my co pay would be and that I would NOT pay anything more after this amount. A few wks later I get a bill saying I still owed $366 (which is same amt as my co pay was)I called and spoke with Jackie and she said she'd take care of it. a few weeks later I get a notice from a collection agency for the $366, I went into the CL office and told them that was same amount I had already paid and never heard another word. It seems to me they were trying to collect the fee 2X, too bad I outsmarted them! Will not be back, I'd rather stay with my dentist who is not in network and get and honest opinion with good character and morals! read more

Horrible experience. I got my wisdom teeth removed over a month ago because of severe pain, 4 weeks after the fact the pain that i had returned and was worse than before, went in the dentist who had no personality what so ever basically told me i was screwed and couldn't do anything for me except offer an extreme descaling that was very expensive when i asked for him to prescribe me something for the pain he told me no and that i would have to come back and see there oral surgeon who by the way only shows up at the office twice a month. So now here i am a week later after my "descaling" in so much pain that I'm awake at 4 am cause i cant sleep. I will be going to a different dentist on Saturday to get to the cause of the problem.... avoid this place like the plague read more

Dental Works....STAY AWAY!!! Went in to have a loose crown looked at. My regular dentist was on vacation. So I decided to try, based on a friends referral(Not my friends anymore) I spent 6 minutes total, in the office. They took an X-ray and the dentist(Dr. Betzelos) said I had a infection, where my crown was. I told The dentist that I felt no discomfort the crown was loose enough to remove but he did not even attempt to remove the crown and the dentist prescribed me 2 week supply of antibiotic. Then said to come back 2 weeks later. So. I went in for an X-ray and nothing else was accomplished. I walked back to the receptionist(NO PERSONALITY). I saw she had a bill already prepared for over $400, to send to my insurance, for an X-ray. Then she said she was updating the bill to reflect a X-ray and an emergency consult. Still over $200. a few days later. I went back to my regular dentist. He removed the crown...... NO INFECTION..... and re-glued it back in place. I called Dental Works back. Told them The outcome and said I would not be coming back to them, EVER Again. Guess what they did????? They had the nerve to send me another bill for missing my second appointment. I am currently disputing this with my insurance. Only advise I can give you is.... STAY AWAY!!!!! read more

I would not be using Dentalworks again, and I would not recommend it to anyone. I used Dentalworks for myself and my son. Seemed like there was never anyone at front desk to check us in or out. I was told I had to get done deep cleaning, that would be covered by insurance however insurance rejected due to the lack of proof that I needed the service.... I ended with a $500.00 bill. First of all let me say, my son went there for a wisdom tooth to be pulled, and the back of the house was great, but the front of the house was absolutely horrible. First of all I had some guy from the front of the house call me before the appt, over and over again(once he even called and hung it up and recalled again) and said" can you fax or email over the referral:, and I told him" I will bring it in when I come in "and he proceeds to tell me "No, we need it before , because everyone always forgets to bring it". He was very obnoxious about it, so then we go in and I'm sitting in the waiting room for my son in the back,and one of the ladies that works the front , says really loud, as I heard everything, after getting off the phone with a customer, obviously in pain asking for a heavier pain killer...OMG, THAT GUY HAS A MAJOR PROBLEM WHEN HE HAS ASKED FOR A NARCOTIC , by name...I, bit my tongue on how she talks crap about the patients like that. Then, she was bitching about other people and their insurance and they should know this and that, again bit my tongue. My son comes back out and they told us the amount it would be for the wisdom teeth, and I told my son okay, we can reschedule because I don't have the money, then they asked for 95.00 for the office visit, I didn't have money with me, and I'm like sorry I didn't know I had to pay today, and the man that kept calling me on the phone , looked at the lady that was talking crap about patients, rolled his eyes at her about me. and she says to me YOU SHOULD HAVE CALLED YOUR INSURANCE AND FOUND OUT THAT YOU HAD TO PAY US FOR THE VISIT, AND EVERYONE KNOWS THEY GET CHARGED FOR A VISIT RIGHT AWAY FROM ORAL SURGEON'S, i told them this man called me a million times worried about the referral and not once mentioned there would be a office visit, and she attacked me again about how it was MY fault, that I should have known...Nothing like feeling like a complete moron how they treated us. My daughter's appointment was in August. Our insurance is a PPO with no co-pay. I had to pay $ 958. 60 that day. After 4months and 5 phone calls, claim was finally settled. We got our first bill in February with a payment date in March. The day after we got that bill, my daughter ( who never received a bill in her name ) got a collection notice. My husband"s dental insurance is through Plumbers Local and I will never go to them again. read more
