I recently replaced my 18 year old wood deck with Trex and moved the location of the staircase. I gathered 3 quotes in total, one from Denver Deck Builders, one from Lowes and one from another firm who I laughed out the door. Denver Deck Builders came in around $4K lower than Lowes and I had to decide between the "security" of a large corporation vs. a more localized operation. I shared my concerns with Tyler several times and he was responsive, knowledgeable and thorough every time. The work performed was phenomenal, they did not cut any corners and the attention to detail was superb. When there was even a little ambiguity or uncertainty they called me for guidance rather than making an assumption on my behalf. One example being that they consulted me on the exact final positioning of the pergola support board joining the house. I have no regrets whatsoever using these guys and would recommend them to anyone who is looking to build a quality deck at the right price. read more

We recently contracted with Denver Deck Builders to replace an existing TREX ground level deck. In addition to the deck we contracted Denver Deck Builders to install TREX post cap lighting and stair riser lighting. Prior to the lighting being installed we asked the crew from Denver Deck Builders about protecting the wiring and were told it was never a problem. Within three weeks we discovered that the exposed wiring was chewed and our deck lighting failed. The construction installers were easy to work with and obviously took pride in their work. The problems arose with dealing with the owner, CEO Ron Gibas. The TREX lighting brochure clearly states, "ALWAYS protect wire that is close to the ground with conduit or wire loom to prevent rodent damage". The TREX brochure language indicates that rodent damage is a potential problem and Denver Deck Builders had an obligation to advise the homeowner of options to avoid this from happening but this was not done. When we tried to address our concerns with Mr. Gibas he said "it was not his problem". When the TREX recommendations were brought to his attention he again denied responsibility. There was no attempt to reconcile our lighting failure and Denver Deck Builders simply walked away from our project and advised us to deal with it ourselves. Denver Deck Builders showed no interest in accepting any responsibility for their failure to meet defined recommendations. Denver Deck Builders and Mr. Gibas showed no attempt to establish any sort of customer satisfaction. Dealing with the CEO, Ron Gibas, was both frustrating and futile. We strongly advise against dealing with Denver Deck Builders for your deck project. read more

Their communication was lacking, as we talked about our project it was never explained to us that the railing would not match the rest of the deck. When we voiced our concerns, they got very defensive and blamed us saying they shows us picture from other projects they have done but they never did no such thing. The crew working on the deck were very nice and friendly but there craftsmanship was not good at all. There was many boards that were split and not sanded down. We are having to finish the deck ourselves as they were wanting more money from us to finish the eat we wanted and were not going to pay them anything else for their extremely terrible customer service and poor workmanship. After two weeks of phone calls, voice mails and speaking to two people I have had no response to my request for someone to look at our deck. It had a small sag in it from the start but not enough to bother with. It is getting worse and the deck is getting spongy there. In addition when the crew finished they left all of the broken up concrete they had to break out when building the deck. They got my money and they are apparently done with me. read more

Denver Deck Builders I can't say enough great things about Denver Deck Builders! I heard about them from our neighbor, his deck looked awesome, so I gave Ron a call on Jan 23rd. He said he could come out the day after, Jan 25th, to see what I wanted and to take measurements and pictures. Our old redwood deck was falling apart, and we weren't sure if we wanted to stay with wood or go composite. And if we wanted to stay the same size or increase it. And Ron mentioned we could also think about adding a pergola. Just 2 days later, Jan 27th, he emailed me detailed estimate showing the cost for replacing our deck as it currently was, and the cost for upgrading to composite, both prices for increasing the size using wood or composite, and the price to add a pergola. So we could make an informed decision on what we wanted and what we could afford. We decided on upgrading everything, and also including having them do a picture frame with the decking. Trading texts with Ron, he had a few other ideas to make our deck even more special. Some we added, and others we didn't, there was never any pressure, just ideas he had to make it even better. They had a cancellation and were able to start our deck a week later on Feb 8th. The crew, led by Shane were amazing! They worked pretty much every day, and this was during a cold snap with days that were in the freezing. They completed the deck on Feb 22nd, faster than we thought it was going to be done, considering the cold and snow we had when they were working. Shane made sure we were kept up to date every single day on status of where they were and what was planned for the next day. The deck is simply amazing and so much better than we imagined. Their workmanship to every little detail was truly so impressive, And they left our yard cleaner than when they started. A year after Denver Deck Builders built my deck, I yet again learn of another issue and disregard for quality craftsmanship. Their plans were stamped by the owner Ron Gibas as treated beams, only to learn from the city building inspector that they were not. The inspector suggested removing the Fortress railing and top deck boards and laying down flashing. The owner said he could not get this completed for at least 8 weeks, so he paid me to use another contractor, and I found one that did a great job. Now I learn from Fortress railing company rep the Denver Deck Builders never used the touch up paint to spray the cut edges for all the Fortress deck railing pieces to prevent rusting. The cuts were also not consistent or even level. The owner says that I requested craftsmanship other buyers dont request. I pitty those other customers for letting shotty workmanship occur for your money. I would never recommend the Gibas family owners or brothers of The Denver Deck Builders for building a deck. read more

They came out to measure to get me an estimate. His mask was below his nose most of the time and I moved back to protect myself (I was wearing a mask, and yes, I am in a risk group). I had to remind him to put his mask over his nose, but it kept getting under his nose. My project would be very pricey (new large Trex deck, cable railings, Shed roof, lighting, etc). About 5-10 minutes after he left he called to tell me that his 'superiors' said they would not be interested in my project. I asked why, and was told I lived too far away (they knew where I lived before they came, and had just come from a project up Boulder Canyon they were on which is same county) and that they were not interested in doing my project. I was honest about telling them that I was getting estimates from a number of companies. No idea why this happened, but glad that I will not be using them as they were not as professional as two other companies I have gotten estimates from, and have one more company coming to get me an estimate before we decide. read more

Dan, Jim and Steven were professional, clean, respectful and we LOVE our new deck. Before we went with Denver Deck Builders, we did our due diligence. We called three other contractors, explained what we wanted and received three quotes. Some were lower than the other's (using the same materials) but, two were not licensed or insured and did not want to go through the permitting routine. Tyler, CEO of Denver Deck Builders was professional all the way through. We were given a drawing of our deck, certified by an architect and the building permit before the crew started.
