When I received the text reminder to confirm or cancel the appointment, I replied back to cancel. 3 days later I receive a call stating that the appointment was missed and they wanted to charge me a missed appointment fee. Switching dentists - called to have my records transferred - the receptionist asked - Who Are You. Ah - the Patient. I have been going to him for almost a year..I had not seen a dentist for a very long time, too embarrassed to state how long.. but Dr. Kovalchuk and his assistants were gentle and non-judgmental. I have to agree with all the other reviews here. Dr. Kovalchuk is the best. If you take a step back and think about dentistry, it involves making an extremely terrible, nerve-racking, downright scary situation tolerable. Bedside manner is a huge part of dentistry, and Dr. Kovalchuk is a natural. He's not acting; he really is a nice, caring person. He makes sure you are comfortable and does not talk down to you. He doesn't belittle you if you have a low pain threshold. In addition, he's very talented and really does nice work. Not the cheapest dentist in the world, but the value I have gotten from Dr. Kovalchuk and his awesome staff has paid for itself 1000x over already. Our teenage son's orthodontist recommended that we see Dr. Kovalchuk to build up a baby canine tooth (he doesn't have a permanent tooth to replace it) so that his smile would look even. When our orthodontist called him a "bonding god," we figured it was hyperbole. But, after seeing the results, our orthodontist wasn't exaggerating! The tooth Dr. Kovalchuk made for him is indistinguishable from a real tooth! We couldn't stop smiling and remarking on how incredible it is. It was a real boost for my son's self image. Dr. Kovalchuk took time to evaluate him, used a mold of my son's teeth to get the tooth just right before we came in, and took considerable time bonding the tooth so that everything about it is perfect--color, shape, polish, everything. We couldn't be more pleased. As an added bonus, Dr. Kovalchuk is lovely to work with--professional, personable, and kind, and his office staff is wonderful as well. We couldn't be happier! read more

Dr Kovalchuk is a complete pro. Great guy, calm, and a perfectionist. I had some (really) old massive molar fillings replaced with crowns. He literally makes the crowns onsite; no coming back in two weeks. Fit perfectly, felt completely normal in less than 24 hours, no pain... His staff is great, friendly. I'm way overdue in giving a review here and having just had an appmt today, thought I'd give my what for... Denys bought the practice from my former dentist Evan Disick, so I figured I'd at least give him a shot. Good move. Great dentist, outstanding work, nice guy. I've had a couple crowns, plus regular check-ups/cleanings. He explains what he's seeing (or not seeing), believes in painless dentistry, has the most modern technology and equipment, he's relaxed/chill, and has great office where you can look out on the water while in the chair (dentist, not electric). I should mention that I found out today that my dental insurer denied my legit claims (I know, shocking) and decided not to cover the crowns after Denys submitted the case for each. Denys will re-submit and appeal, I told his assistant I'd pay the balance and we'll see how it turns out. She mentioned Denys was going to lop 30% off my balance, which was very cool. And if you haven't guessed, his hygienist/assistant (apologies, name escapes me) is also nice, friendly, professional, easy going. 5 stars all around. read more

I am so happy that I have found this dental practice. Dr. Kovalchuk is very professional, skilled, knowledgeable, kind and calm. Not to mention, the office us peaceful and offers a great view of Mt. So this is my second review for Dr Kovalchuk. Last night I bit on an unpopped popcorn kernel and, you guessed it, I cracked part of my molar off. I called this morning (Friday) to make an appointment and found that they are closed on Friday. But wait, what's this? His personal cell phone listed in the voice mail?? I called, he came, patched me up all by himself and now I can go on my trip to Morocco early next week and not have to see a Moroccan dentist. They might be good, but they're not as good as Dr. K. I have seen Dr Kovalchuk several times now for dental work. After a bad experience in Santa Cruz, he really offered a different kind of experience. His manner is kind, gentle, and patient. I have a lot of difficulty with shots (yes, I know I'm not alone), and tend to need a lot of anesthesia. He helped me feel relaxed and calm and, his method of giving the shots was the closest to painless I have experienced. When asked him how his shots felt so different from the others, he was very humble and just shrugged and said, maybe it has something to do with the fact that he has studied Alexander Technique. Wow, I was really blown away to not only find a technically proficient dentist with a comfortable office, but also someone who explores health and medicine and body awareness and incorporates it into his domain of expertise. read more

CALM, GENTLE, AND SKILLED My family moved from SF three years ago, and after trying two or three different dentists, we have now all finally and happily settled on Dr. Kovalchuk. He is from Ukraine, where he originally trained, but he since retrained here in the States. So have no fears: he is absolutely up on the latest and greatest practices and materials. Furthermore, his English is perfect, and his receptionist is also very pleasant and efficient. I've not yet had to have any fillings done [I'm not complaining!] but my family report that his work is skilled, gentle, and pain-free. The surprise bonus is that while the office at first appears to be buried in a soulless hive of random businesses, once you sit down in the dentist chair, you find yourself looking out (at ground level) directly over a very attractive water view, facing the hills of Mill Valley. I came to Dr. Kovalchuk to have a filling on my front tooth repaired. I chipped it last year, had it repaired twice by someone else, and was not happy. I felt very self-conscious about my smile and was uncomfortable smiling. That's not fun! Another great experience - had my second cleaning today. Such a beautiful office, very friendly staff, Kristen at Reception is always cheerful. Caroline did a fabulous job taking X-Rays and cleaning my teeth, she was very gentle and thorough. They have all the latest equipment. I've been going to the same dentist in SF for 30 years.......and finally decided I wanted to find a dentist in Marin, but I was nervous about changing after all these years. As soon as I met Dr. Kovalchuk I found him to be caring, very pleasant and he explained my options with respect to some old discolored fillings I had (no up selling at all). I have scheduled my appt. to have the old fillings replaced and I'm actually looking forward to have Dr. Kovalchuk do the work!! I have been going to see Dr. Denys Kovalchuk since I relocated to the USA in 2015. So far i've been super happy with the service and really appreciate his wonderful staff, Ashley and Kristen, who are so helpful and accommodating. Location-wise they're so easy to reach just off the 101 with plenty of parking. Great views from your chair as they're located off the water. The main procedures I've had are night guard fittings, teeth cleaning and a few fillings. All of which have been attended to with the highest amount of care possible. I have been so happy i've now sent my husband there for his dental work. Highly recommended! read more

My dentist of 25 years just retired, so I did some Yelp research to find a replacement. Dr. Kovalchuk has the most positive reviews here (85 at the time, not sure what happened to them), so I decided to give him a try. Nice office, nice staff (Helen is very kind and friendly), very professional doctor. He is not a chatty type, so not much joking or talking going on when you are in the chair. That's fine with me, but might make some nervous-kind patients uncomfortable and anxious. His numbing injections are nearly painless, and he definitely takes his time when working on your teeth. No scare tactics, no up-selling, just down to the point with what needs to be done. I actually wish he would be more forthcoming and "pushy" with stuff he thinks you should address-- otherwise you have to be proactive and advocate for yourself. His prices are similar to other Marin dentists'. His office is busy ( even with 3 hygienists on staff), so it might take a few weeks to get an appointment for a cleaning or non-emergent stuff. As a new patient, I had to wait just 10 days to see him. In my opinion, a busy office is a good sign-- clearly a lot of people like this dentist! read more

I had put off getting a crown for a long time. Dr. Kovalchuk was flexible and patient with me as I waited to make an appointment. I finally had the work done last week and it turned out great. Now I wish I had done it sooner! He was very professional, put me at ease, explained everything that he was doing, and did an excellent job. I needed a small filling, too, and the experience with the crown was so positive that I didn't hesitate to have him do that work right away, as well. Ashley did a great job, too. Ok, I admit it. I am TERRIFIED of going to the dentist and after moving here a couple of years ago, dragged my heels replacing my dentist in the South Bay. Finally, when I woke up recently with a throbbing sore tooth, I could no longer avoid it and looked on Yelp for a dentist nearby who had high ratings. I called Dr. Kovachuk and his assistant was sympathetic and able to get me in the same day. My whole experience in Dr. Kovalchuk's office was so positive and supportive, I realized I had found my new dentist! Dr. Kovalchuk was kind and very inquisitive about my dental and overall health history, and sought many times to reassure me that he would not cause any pain and he didn't! He even cleaned my teeth himself, gently, with a cool new tool that did not require the scraping I used to have to endure to get tartar off my teeth! In the past, I came across dentists that did poor jobs that warranted further action down the line. Or I would walk away from the appointment feeling cheated, like someone (either the dentist or the dental hygienist) cut corners somehow, or didn't do as thorough a job as they could have. Well, I am so happy to say that my visits with Dr. Kovalchuk had me walking away feeling safe and satisfied. He is extremely down to earth and patient. He has a very calming demeanor , which is what you need in a dentist. He is very careful and exacting and explains things so you are not wondering what is going on. Although it is just him and usually one dental assistant, I am totally fine with that! He was the one who did my last cleaning and he is very hands on, even doing some of the front office activities. Very conscientious about pain management - proactively made sure I was not in any pain. Did an awesome job on a same day crown. All round wonderful.
