Excellent family run salon! Mia is friendly and very efficient. I have been here twice and left both times very satisfied. The second time, I was looking for a certain style and perm and she did not hesitate to describe how my hair was not long enough yet and how much it needs to grow to achieve the look I wanted. She pays great attention to detail, while other hair stylists may have just perm my hair even if it wouldn't look how I hoped. After the cut, she also gave great advice on how to style my hair. I work in Lowell but live in Brookline. Brookline has a multitude of barbers and stylists, all at a very unreasonable price starting around $25. In contrast, Dep Beauty Salon is much more affordable. Other than price, the two ladies who have given me haircuts here are great as well as their haircutting skills! By no means am I a haircut snob, like some can be. At the same time, having a shaved head isn't a good haircut. I usually go in and ask something to the effect of: "whatever you want. Just short on the sides, please." Actually, that IS what I say. So, while I have gotten two different styled cuts, they have been awesome. Additionally, I am one of those people that doesn't talk while getting a haircut because I just don't want to share my life story. Both ladies were quick to surmise that I wasn't a talker and did not engage in conversation in a good way. Personally, getting a haircut is almost like a massage for me; I enjoy the quiet whir of the blades and somewhat zen like feeling I get. But I digress. In the end, this place is a steal for the price and value as well as their technical skill and perceptiveness. I can't highly recommend enough because it is so much cheaper than any haircut I would get in Brookline. Couple this with the quality of their haircuts and you create a great experience. read more

I called, and they said they could take me any time. She got me right in, and gave me suggestions on what she could do to make my very fine/thin hair look a little fuller. She was efficient and did a great job. I don't know the area very well, but the price-point seemed lower than average. Yup well...this is mine A family owned business for over 15+ years, it has been in direct competition with two other barber shops DIRECTLY across the st yet are still able to hold their own. Small yet quaint, casual atmosphere that's very welcoming. I have been coming here religiously for the past 2 years to get my hair cut. I trust NOBODY with my hair unless its Dep's daughter ( who is currently the owner, Dep recently moved back overseas and opened up a shop there ) Having cut hair for most of her life, at the age of 28 shes very skilled. Quick with hands yet gentle, its a very relaxing experience. Like most barbers, somewhere along the line they seem to ( unofficially ) become a therapist as well as a barber, you all know exactly what I'm talking about don't lie, those scenes where people are getting a nice clean cut while joking around with their barbers, no? For some reason as you're getting you're hair cut you just HAVE to talk about your life story, your home life, relationships, current events etc etc. Surprisingly, despite being so young, the advice given is pretty solid and on point, whether it be what to cook for dinner or how to approach a job interview or relationships, Its surprisingly very helpful. Something about getting your head massaged and being able to unload some stress as well as getting that fresh clean cut that's just very therapeutic and leaves you feeling fresh and at ease. 5 stars for the barber! read more

I went here to get a haircut because the review on yelp is pretty good. However, I didnt know there are 2 stylists here, and I ended up getting a haircut by the older lady. She ruined my hair. The hair layer she gave me make my hair so poor and unhealthy. I never have a haircut that after all it gets worse. I asked for a side bang and I got a different style. I tried to calm myself and let her finished her job, and go with whatever she did. I told myself maybe after I washed my hair again, it will look better. But it doesnt change anything. My hair feels so dry and unhealthy after the haircut. I am so disappointed!!! read more

I recently got my hair cut at this salon, and had showed one of the stylists a photo for reference of the hair cut I wanted. I came in with a lot of hair and expected to leave the salon with a slight trim, even the stylist agreed that for me to achieve the hair I want she would give me a trim. The reference in the photo looks nothing like the hair cut i was given. The stylist I had seemed older, she just kept thinning and cutting my hair without checking how it would look, just continued to thin and cut. And at one point she asked if I want to trim a tiny bit, and she said how I should because it will look too long and I said ok cut a TINY bit, and clarified again to trim it at tiny bit. she just went ham and kept trimming and cutting, at this point just shave my head bald because I basically came in for a trim. I haven't been to this salon in a year and decided to give them another chance but now I remember why I stopped coming here. read more

Its a very small salon. There are only 3 seats and 2 stylists. One of them is pretty young and the other is older. I will only get my hair cut from the younger one. I wish I knew her name. Ever since I moved to Lowell, about 15 yrs ago, this is the only salon that my family will go to. My father, my husband and my two boys go there once a month. I have never gotten my hair cut there until a few weeks ago. I usually cut my own hair but I wanted to go short. Cut off over a foot of hair, which she donated to charity and the cut was perfect! She knew what length would compliment my face and thinned it out perfectly. She even blew dry it straight for me. And all of this for only $12! I will def go back again for my needs. read more
