I was in the mood for a good hot dog. Depot Deli did not disappoint. Had chili, onions, and slaw added and they were delicious. Mid afternoon so they weren't busy but service was good. I've ate here before and the food is always good. Gets a bit crowded at lunch time as can be expected. Nice and quaint inside, and the deck outside is pleasant overlooking the Cahaba River. This time I got the grilled chicken salad and you can tell the chicken just came hot off the grille. I would've loved more green lettuce (instead of all iceberg) but that's my only complaint. David got the philly cheese steak with fries and loved. Their fries are crinkle cut but thin. Even extra seasoning on the tables for those of us that only want to taste seasonings ‍ Both our meals and drinks were $30. The biggest draw for this place is the view/location. It's just a nice place to sit and have lunch especially when the weather is good. The burgers are always a good bet. I went out on a limb and got a Reuben. (Getting a Reuben from here was the limb; getting Reubens in general is totally my tree.) It was neither great nor bad. As far as Reuebens from out, it is smaller and not the impressive (and usually large) sandwich you'll find at other places. However, it was just like a Reuben I'd make at home, so hard to go wrong there. The basket of tots we split was generous and a nice complement to either the burger she got or the Reuben. I must say that looks are definitely deceptive! While it looks like the engine of a train the food is definitely not side of the road quality! I had a burger and fries and it was delicious I mean everything is fresh the service was great the ambience was perfect! To top it off I met the owner and he was quite a gentleman.. The Depot is a staple in the town of Helena. Located next to the waterfall, this small burger spot has a great view! The menu is simple and delicious. The last time I came, my friend had a reuben and I had the mushroom Swiss burger. We both really enjoyed our meals! My burger was perfectly cooked, and served with crinkle cut fries sprinkled with seasoned salt. SO yummy. No alcohol is served here, but they have soft drinks and tea. The decor inside is simple, the walls are covered in signed dollar bills! Definitely a great place to go if you want to have lunch with a gorgeous view! read more

Stopped in the other night for a good down home burger and that's what I got. The guys were real nice and took my order as soon as I entered. They do have a variety of choices and I saw someone ordered wings and they looked pretty good. I ordered the 8oz cheeseburger all the way with fries. I could have done the 4oz but I was a little hungry. This was a big juicy hand patted burger that was cooked perfectly. The condiments were basic and the bun was a regular bun. What made this sandwich was the meat. I could have eaten it without the bun and it would have been just as good. The fries could use a little work. They were over fries and hard and they were all tiny like the ones at the bottom of a bag! I think if all were hitting on all cylinders, it would have been a higher ranking but I have to be honest. We are in Alabama visiting family and they wanted us to try this local favorite. It has a ton of southern charm. It is decorated with tools and signs and random country stuff. Like Cracker Barrel, but more authentic. We sat outside on the deck and it overlooks a river. It was a sunny, but cold, day. Still families were out walking the river bank. I had a burger and wings. The burger was cooked perfectly on a nice bun. It as a mushrom swiss burger. Good cheese and plenty of mushrooms. The wings were tasty, but a little over breaded for my taste. Overall the food was better than average but not great. I still ranked it a five because the total experience was awesome. Heading the back way home from Pelham/Alabaster area, I checked out Yelp for suggestions in the area. Good reviews and great views led me to this little hidden gem. Outdoor shaded seating overlooking Buck Creek to accompany plenty of indoor seating. When you first walk in they have a large menu board and counter to the right. Step up and place your order, fill your drink and find a seat. The server was exceptionally friendly and when she found out I hadn't been there before, let me know what the menu favorites were. My eyes had already landed on one of those favorites, the Bacon Cheese Burger. Add a side order of Tator Tots and I was set. Wend outside and found a spot to sit, the temp was perfect in the shade. Sound of the water flowing over the dam in the back ground made for a great setting for dinner. Food came out pretty quickly (under 10 minutes). Burger wasn't overly huge, but was packed with flavor. Tator tots weren't anything special, but I added some seasoning salt and dipped in BBQ and they were just fine. Nobody ever makes you feel rushed, prices are good and the staff are friendly. With the amazing views of Buck Creek it's hard to pass this little gem up. Note: other reviews classified this as a dive restaurant, and that is pretty spot on when it comes to the interior, but I loved their set up and will be returning soon! read more

Great spot to grab a semi-fast meal, dine outside with incredible views overlooking Buck Creek, and feel like you've stepped back in time. After reviewing the menu, we stepped up to the counter and placed our order. We were given a receipt with a number, which the wait staff called when the food was ready and delivered the food to our table. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries. They offer 4 oz and 8z burgers. Or, if you are really hungry, you can order the husky burger, which is built with two 8oz patties. I ordered an 8 oz which was pretty substantial. The burger was very tasty and had a nice grilled taste. It was topped with fresh lettuce, onions, and tomatoes, as well as jarred sliced pickles. My only complaint was the bun wasn't completely fresh, perhaps a day past soft and fresh consistency, but not hard. Regarding the fries, crinkle fries are not my favorite, but they were freshly cooked and had a nice consistency. I also had a chance to try the tater tots and they were fantastic. I will definitely opt for those the next time. The staff were hustling hard to get it done and were friendly and down to Earth. If you are looking for a tasty burger and get excited by incredible views, make a stop at The Depot. If outside isn't your thing, there are inside seating options as well. read more

This has always been one of my favorites. Not so much anymore. Today, I drove out of my way to get one of their burgers. It was 1:10 p.m. Still lunch and they are still open. I stood for minutes while being ignored by woman behind the cash register as they put up the frozen food that had been delivered. When she finally decided to take my order, there was no smile, only an angry, frowning face. I assumed that I was interrupting her inventory. The prices have doubled and the food quality has gone down. I know that everything is getting much more expensive but a smile costs nothing. I will not be in a hurry to return and probably should have eaten elsewhere where my patronage and money would be appreciated. Next time that I'm craving a burger, I will go to the Purple Onion.
