Saw some pretty plates full of catfish as well. Also, my friend just RAVES about their potato salad side dish. She always orders a to go container before she leaves. The train-themed dining room is in a repurposed storefront just off "The Square". It even has a train that circuits the room near the ceiling. Our server was kind, efficient, and helpful, even with a packed dining room. Not at all like Kandi. I had the patty melt with fries and my wife had the club with onion rings. My patty melt was just like I'd make at home very tasty with two kinds of cheese. My wife reports the club was good. The fries ordered crispy, were somewhat soggy but the onion rings were fantastic. All in all the crowd seemed to be enjoying lunch and there seemed to be some local/regular customers mixed in with those of us from the train. Tip - get the onion rings Tip 2 - Watertown has about 2000 residents and there were about 500 "tourists" from the train so getting a seat may take a few minutes at any place in town. This quaint small cafe diner is located in historic Watertown, TN. I had the 1/2 lb Diesel Burger with cheese and bacon. The hamburger appeared a bit thrown together and cooked well done. It appeared to be a frozen patty and not made fresh. The lettuce was partially wilted. The small things matter. Friendly service and the price was reasonable for a regular burger. I wouldn't recommend the burger for out of towners. Try something else. read more

I made a reservation at this cafe for my wife and myself for our 48th wedding anniversary and rode the Tennessee Central Railroad from Nashville to Watertown. The Tennessee Railroad was an awesome ride and I highly recommend it. They actually provided entertainment during the trip and the crew were outstanding. When we arrived at the Depot Junction Cafe I realized that the menu was not the one I read on line. It was a one page train menu with 8 items. I ordered the chopped steak with 2 sides for $15.99. What they brought me was a small hamburger patty with 2 little plastic cups with the sides and a small cold out of the package roll, no butter or anything to put on it so it looked like I paid $15.99 for a TV dinner barely heated up. Now I am not a real picky person but my mom owned 2 restaurants before she passed away and I know what you should serve to your customers. The problem is in Watertown they have the depot junction and 2 Mexican restaurants so they have no competition. Suggest if you take that train trip eat breakfast before you go then when you get back around 4:30- 5:00pm go eat dinner. My wife had the chicken fingers for $12.99 and it was the same like an inexpensive TV dinner. read more

This is the worst restaurant that I have been to in ages. The food was awful. BBQ pork: mushy, out of bag. Onion rings: bag. Bun: bag, not even toasted. Iced tea: weak. Cobbler: flavorless, doughy mess - they should've stuck to Cysco bagged foods. Service was completely discombobulated. No organization to seat people, not even a simple list. Only one person to work register to cash out. Bathrooms were so gross! And the ladies restroom had 2 toilets and a sink, just open in one small room. What was going on with that? There was not even a divider. Oh and I hope you like heavy handed political displays while you dine. The train-themed Depot Junction Cafe is a great choice for lunch in Watertown -- our party of eight had no wait. The menu is extensive. I finally decided on the patty melt, which was much larger than I was expecting. The patty itself was cooked perfectly -- juicy and well seasoned. The patty, two slices of cheese and grilled onions were held together by an upside-down, buttery hamburger bun which had been grilled lightly to a golden brown. My friends and I stopped in here for something to drink. Ended up getting a milkshake, which was great! My friends got the hot fudge cake which was HUGE and also delicious. I ordered some hot wings. We have been here a few times as a family with young children so we don't have to cook and do dishes and each time I go I can't help but think about how gross the kitchen must look because they don't dust the trinket decor or clean the windows, main door, bathrooms, chairs or customers' splatters on the walls. The entire place looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years. Sometimes after I drop my kids off from school, I think about getting a quick biscuit to go because I'm pregnant and craving it however, I called them this morning as I pulled in across the street at the bank to wait, and I asked how long it would take and they said at least 20 minutes for a to go biscuit. There's so much potential in this place. We visited on a VERY busy Saturday afternoon during Watertown's Jazz Festival. So... the food was passable. I had a grilled chicken breast (a tiny chicken breast for the money), a loaded baked potato, and green beans. The green beans were seasoned well. My guy had fried catfish, coleslaw, and a loaded baked potato. His catfish filets were of pretty decent size. Food wise, it wasn't memorable. A HUGE drawback was the line to pay the check. It stretched back almost to the restrooms. I just LOVE strangers hovering all over our table, breathing on us. (I hope you get the sarcasm in that last remark.) A suggestion: have your servers ask folks to decide who is paying, and let them stand in line while the rest of the party waits outside. I mean, how many people in a party of more than two does it take to pay the check? Another suggestion: lose all the political propaganda. We can agree to disagree on politics, but we shouldn't have to look at that mess while I eat. And you probably want to improve on your health score. 91? Had I known how low you scored before we arrived, we'd have kept walking. The one really bright spot in our visit was our server, Ashley. I dont wanna be so negative BUT my 6 year old was the last to receive her popcorn shrimp. My BLT had very little bacon but decent. Husbands burger was luke warm , cheese wasnt melted , he asked for grilled onions and had fresh onions the burger patty broke in half. Which means the PATTY wasn't fully cooked. ----------- Updated: Even those safe bets on the menu from before are becoming harder to trust, the steak salad (I always order it medium rare) most of the time it is well done, once we get home with the food and realize it and call it's a real pain to go back because they don't know the difference between well done and medium rare (and we get it to go 95% of the time ...because, we'll see other reviews) I still say the salad BAR is the best way to go hands down, but obviously it's best to do the salad bar if you dine in and we just don't do that very often. Great atmosphere, terrible food. They have done a fabulous job of harnessing the "Old Town Square" feel. Great old building with character, clean bathrooms, great old train relics decorting the dining hall. That's, unfortunately where the good of the review stops. The food is, to put in a word, terrible. Imagine early 90's public school cafeteria food...but the really bad kind. The chicken stips were terrible, the mashed potatoes has the oddest taste (which im sure will lead to nausea in the next few hrs) The salad bar is trupy the only edible thing. On my trips to Watertown I have twice been to the Depot. Don't get me wrong, the food is good and they have a slightly larger selection than The Snow White II, including a salad bar; however, due to the bi-annual Mile Long Yard, they have become more of a tourist trap and the quality has suffered a little as a result. When I have been there, I have had their cheesesticks and burgers. While the cheesesticks and milkshakes rival that of Rotier's, most of the rest of their food is nothing beyond average. All in all I this place seems to be suffering from its own success. They could really use some places to sit down while waiting for a table too. read more

DON'T GO AS A GROUP. My church took the excursion train ride to Watertown. We had a group of 22. We called about a week ahead and made reservations for our group to eat at the restaurant once the train arrived in the station at Watertown. We got seated immediately, but from there it went downhill quick. We only had one waitress and with a group of 22 all seating at one table we needed more than one waitress. The drink orders took forever and of course the drinks took forever to come out. The food orders took forever as well. The food was very sporadic coming out. About half our group was done eating before the other half even got there food. The part of the group that was still waiting on their food while everyone else was eating all order sandwiches. The food was okay, but nothing to brag about. The worst part was siting there waiting for our food and watching all the other tables around us without reservations coming and going and being served their food and drinks in a timely matter. Our group was there two hours and barely made it back to board the train in time. Also the waitress forgot to give everyone at our table the homemade yeast rolls they talk so highly about. I did ask about not getting any rolls as I was checking out and the waitress did tell me she just forgot about it and gave me some to take home. Overall it was a bad experience. read more

We went to Watertown and had a group of 10, in which the depot was one of the only places to eat and would accept reservations. We rode the train excursion from Nashville to Watertown, in which the Depot was already aware was coming. There was other larger groups with reservations as well, and therefore should have been more prepared. The service was not great, but poor girl was serving four tables of six, our table of 10, and a table of eight. Our food arrived over an hour and a half after being seated, and was COLD! We did not have any extra time to enjoy the town as we spent all our time at the restaurant. The food was not even appetizing and cold! Avoid this place at all costs! We visited here tonight while we were in town for a basketball game and all three of our meals were inedible. The chicken fingers and onion rings has obviously been cooked at the wrong temperature as they were both brown, soaked through with old grease, and tasted awful. I took one bite and left the rest. My son's hot wings were slimy and disgusting. The hamburger was dry and flavorless. The only thing fit to eat was the salad bar and french fries. Much of this may be the result of having children running the place.
