Dr Rice is awesome! Great sense of humor, knows what he's doing and doesn't make you wait. I knew immediately on my first visit several years ago that I'd picked the right eye doctor. I came to him originally with red stinging eyes and he realized right away that I needed a special kind of contacts... my previous eye doctor tried several kinds but I still had the redness and stinging. Dr. Rice nailed it and got me back to normal on the first try. SO HAPPY! Since my initial visit, I've been back routinely and he's still the same great doctor with the same great laid-back attitude. When ordering contacts or glasses, the turn-around time is within a week. I would recommend him in a heart beat to anyone that asks. The guy that helps you with your glasses is also very helpful and gives you great insight and opinion on what you need and what works with your face and the current styles. My family and I needed in new optometrist since we moved and our other one was too far away. One of our friends recommended that we go see Dr. Rice. We are so happy with our experience. He is so kind and friendly, and he was so good with our 10 year-old son. He also knew how to talk with our 19 year-old daughter And his whole staff was just warm and welcoming. As a dentist, I have to have sharp and detailed eyesight. We just had our annual eye exams last week and had another great visit. For the last 30 years, my wife and I have been seeing Dr. Rice for our eye exams and glasses, including my special safety glasses with Rx lenses for dentistry. Gus is especially helpful to be sure our eyeware give sharp vision, are fitted well, and look great. Dr. Derek has the latest high tech testing to look into the eye and back of the eye capturing photos and measuring for problems. I LOVE going to get my eyes checked. I was never one who was a fan of the optometrists, dilated eyes, reading weird letters...not really my thing. Until my mother referred me to Dr Rice (and his former partner, Dr. Rosenberg). It's a small little place right off Whitter Blvd and has a very friendly and clean without being sterile. They only get 4 stars because, though they have a decent selection of styles, it always takes me a while to find something I like...however, I've never left unhappy. The best part of the whole experience are the doctors. Not only are they super professional, but they are charming, funny guys who are all about making everyone feel comfortable. I just starting seeing Dr. Rice because Dr. Rosenburg has retired. I am happy to report that Dr. Rice is just as great as his partner...caring, funny and knowledgeable. read more

Not what it seems! They are very friendly, with big smiles... however, if you look Beyond the hypocrisy, you will see that the smiles are not genuinely for you but more so because how they're going to rip you off! How you may ask. Well, When You come in with your insurance company coverage that states they cover X amount for frames, and when you get there and show then the frames you liked this office has tripled the amount so at the end of the day they are making more if you have insurance then if you just got the frame online or some other retailer. The amount they charge is ridiculously high. The sad part is that you the public continue to pay. Don't be bamboozled by this office pretending to give you a great deal, hell if you're going to pay more for a smile then we should all be smiling to everybody, the truth of the matter is the more you continue to pay them these ridiculously high prices the higher they are going to continue to get. By the time it was all set and done they wanted roughly $450 for frames and progressive lenses. I got the same deal for half that price! Yes it is premium lenses Varilux and anti glare Cruzal. Don't be fooled! They tell you what you want to hear with sweet words. You and I work hard for our money to just give it away to some sweet talks with a smile! read more

I was told after an exam that I had developing cataracts but glasses world help. $1,000.00 later with insurance it was zero help. Returned 6 months later and was told you need cataract surgery. Too bad too sad out 1 K! Would not recommend. read more

I have Dr. Vazagov as my doctor and she is awesome! She made me feel right at home and was very patient with my questions I had. The visit didn't feel rushed and when selecting a frame you didn't feel pushed to make a decision. This place has a vast selection of frames, your sure to find something that works for you. All the model cars inside definitely is a nice touch, especially if you don't want to sit around, you can just walk around and look at all the model cars. Great staff, great service! The only gripe I have about this place would have to be the amount of time it takes to get your glasses once ordered. My glasses took almost 2 weeks to come in, then were too powerful and had to be sent back only to wait another two weeks. It's very frustrating especially when other optometry places can have them made and delivered in days. read more

Dr. Rice is the greatest. My family of 4 are all patients of his, and we all love him! We started going to him when we moved to the area back in 2002, and as friends of mine have moved to the area, I've always recommended Dr. Rice to them as well. He is incredibly knowledgeable and attentive - and he is mild mannered and FUNNY. Any doctor who has an immediate calming effect is worth gold to me. His office staff is friendly and accommodating as well. I like that they have later office hours once a week, and are open on Saturdays. That helps with scheduling and picking up glasses or contacts. Appointments can be a little hard to schedule but I'm sure that's because a lot of people try to work around school and work hours. There is another doctor that seems to have better availability, but I have never made an appt with her so not sure how great she is (a friend of mine saw her when he couldn't get in to Dr. Rice and he really liked her.) Sometimes Dr. Rice is running behind, and there have been times we have waited more than 20 minutes for an appt to start. If 3 of us are scheduled, that means we walk out an hour behind. BUT - the attention and service you get are worth every minute of the wait. Their optician works hard to get you the best pricing with what you choose and your insurance coverage. I always look forward to going to the eye doctor because everyone is so nice and helpful (been coming here for over 10 years, and my parents even longer). Never had to wait more than 10 min (if at all) for my appointment, and I never feel overwhelmed or nervous because everything is explained very well. If I am picking out new frames, I get feedback on how they look/fit my face, because sometimes it is hard to tell on yourself! I love Dr. Rice! He is funny, kind, and patient. I have gone here for a few years and recently took my son. He's great with adults and kids alike. Came here for the first time and I was worried because I had a change in insurance and some of who take this insurance did not have great reviews and majority where in department stores. I reviewed each and every one and I saw people where very pleased with them. After going to my appointment, I was so pleased with how kind the ladies in the front counter where and very helpful. My first Yelp review ever, but I had to! I initially called another optometrist in Whittier where the receptionist hung up on me. YES! She hung up on me after asking me to give my SS# over the phone. I'm not sure about you, but I don't feel comfortable giving that information over the phone. Anyway, about Dr. Rice's office and staff. After I cancelled my appointment with the other office (just didn't get a good impression from the receptionists' attitude) I found Dr. Rice's office through my insurance. The receptionist answered my call with the BEST attitude and professionalism ever. They were even able to schedule me for that same day. I showed up to my appointment and everything went smoothly. Filled out the paperwork, walked around the office viewing their frames, saw Dr. Rice (who is extremely well-mannered, funny, and thorough in his exam), browsed the frames some more before paying my co-pay and leaving. I put a pair of frames on hold with the hopes of returning to purchase them at another date and time. The selection of frames is large and there is another assistant specifically there to help you choose frames that best suit your needs and preferences. BONUS: the office is decked out with classic car models and posters. I brought my boyfriend with me who is into classics so I was happy that he had something to browse while I was having my exam done. read more

The office staff was nice and the office was clean, but it concerned that the doctor pulled down his mask the first chance he got and kept if off the entire exam and touched his face often. I know the office is vaccinated but made me uncomfortable. He also asked me to.pull down my mask to avoid fogging up the lenses. I'm.vaccinated but was the person before me?
