How have I been visiting St. Augustine several times a year for several decades are not known about D'Aleo Italian Deli until a recent visit? Let me tell you this small deli/restaurant is so worth your visit. It is conveniently located on US one south State Road 312. In a small strip shopping center. Turn when you see the McDonald's it's in the shopping center behind it. My dining companion and I split the The Boss sub for $11.99. Filled with generous amounts of Mortadella, Sopressata, Prosciutto and Provolone and topped with tomato and shredded lettuce, this sandwich is a total winner! It is enough for two people and probably could be shared between three or four people with some chips on the side. We had no trouble finding a table at 3:20 PM on a Saturday however, by the time we left, there was a line out the door! We chose to sample the dessert in order to cannoli for $2.99 and a huge piece of tiramisu for $4.99. This meal may be one of the best values in all of St. Augustine. According to the menu, the restaurant/deli opened in 1989. I'm embarrassed we did not know about it sooner. The desserts were wonderful and probably one of the best cannolis I've had in years crispy shell and delicious filling. There are so many more options to try on the menu and a wonderful range of pasta, sauces, and toppings to take home. There are a wonderful Italian cookies and frozen ravioli and stuffed shells too many to make a full mention here. We definitely will return and I certainly encourage anyone reading this to try it for themselves! read more

Had high hopes for this place, walked in around 12:45 and it was busy-ish. Menu is old school and small. They were quick to get my order and get my sandwich out "the godfather" which honestly was small and lack luster. Was it bad, no. Was it anything to write home about no. I had also asked for yellow peppers and she tells me she doesn't have them and only has red peppers as she's walking away from me and never gets me any peppers. And it was supposed have oil and vinegar and it didn't seem like it did. Now this is why they don't get a good rating. I ordered a soda she asked me for a bottle or fountain I said fountain. She brought my drink and than never followed up for a refill. So I get up go to counter and ask for one the guy tells me "they are a $1 and than I'll have no problem getting it for you." So I say I was choking on their dry sandwich. I go to hand him a $1 and he says I have to pay the cashier and made me wait for her to take my $1. My family and I ordered sandwiches here and the service was a mixed bag. One gentleman was so nice and took our order, but the woman who worked here was pretty short and rude. The sandwiches, however, were delicious. I got the eggplant parm which was yummy but they could have removed the skin off the eggplant. The roll was also tasty and fresh, and the sauce was sweet. Everyone enjoyed their sandwiches. They had a few tables and chairs and had a cute, classic Italian deli look inside. They have lots of Italian goodies here to buy too. This place is fantastic. Wonderful service and great quality food. We ordered eggplant Parmesan and veal Parmesan sandwiches. There wasn't a crumb left. It was amazing. The cannoli was actually eaten before our sandwich because we had to try it. We also bought sweet Italian sausages to bring home and cook. If you visit on a Saturday, go early. We were there at 11 and there was a steady line of customers. The prices were also reasonable. Everyone there was super friendly and made sure everything was delicious. Shoutout to our local community heroes! When I come here, I feel like family! I'm sure that all their other patrons can agree! I try to try new things every time I go to a venue in order to add to my reviews... but I have a dilemma! Today, I had Jennifer cook me up a plate of spaghetti and meatballs!!!!! I already knew that the meatballs and marinara was a homemade recipe, but I was blown away by the unctuousness of this dish!!! The depth of the marinara sauce was hitting all the marks! Savory with the perfect underlying sweetness, the texture was velvety and hugged every long al dente noodle! The spice balance was perfection! The meatballs had a great mouthfeel to them and were not mushy or feeling like you bit into a burger patty. It was gentle, beefy, and complimented the marinara. I'm a little bit of a brat when it comes to sauces... this was memory making marinara!!! Mr Joe has changed my life and I cried a little bit as I savored the last bite. My sadness quickly turned into excitement and longing because I remembered that I can literally get this sauce every day ( except Sunday.. the family needs their well deserved rest)!!! And yes, of course I bought a container of the housemade mixed olives!!! And I grabbed a loaf of Italian bread to indulge in that seasoned olive oil from the mixed olives (Joe taught me that tip )!!! After all that I encountered on this day, this meal was like a big warm hug!!! I didn't even need dessert, the taste of the Love in this food was sweet enough! Stopped by to check the deli out and buy some Italian delicacies. Bought raviolis, pastories, cannoli, and sausage. We decided to eat a late dinner and tried out their hero's. Wife ha chicken cutlet hero and I had the mozzarella and prosciutto. Portion size was plentiful and sandwiches were delicious. Having worked in an Italian delicacies on long island in my youth, this place has everything you could want, high quality, selection and fair prices. We have been meaning to try this place. I really liked the sandwich. My wife thought it was okay. I thought the quality of the meat was very good. We got the super size sandwich to feed 4. It wasn't enough could have used a little more. Not much more about a quarter more. Ordered the macaroni salad. It was to watery for my liking. Still was not bad and we ate it all. Service is outstanding great staff! Place has everything if you like Italian and want to cook at home. I will be back to try their spaghetti and meatballs. I also will get that sandwich again. Terrible sandwiches, very cheap cold cuts and the worst bread out of a plastic bag that I had in my life... they could hide the poor quality of the bread if they were willing to toast it or at least warm it up, but when I asked they just said NO, they don't do it... Stopped by this cozy little Italian deli for lunch and it did not disappoint! We were greeted right away, which added to the warm, homey vibe. The food was delicious and priced really well for the quality - the meatballs and the "hit man" Italian sandwich were fantastic! My husband ordered a hot pastrami sandwich; it came out warm rather than piping hot, which he wasn't expecting, but it still tasted great. We noticed that a bunch of people ordered the various Italian sandwiches so maybe stick to those if it's your first time here. Seating is limited, with just a few tables inside and a couple outside, but it worked fine for us. It did start to get busy around lunchtime, so be prepared to wait in line to order and pay at the counter. That said, it's totally worth the wait. Definitely give this place a shot! read more

It's a grocery, it's a deli, it's a restaurant and it's absolutely delicious! And just like that, I have another new favorite place! This is a true hidden gem. My family and I discovered it when attending another business nearby and just had to try it. All of their sandwiches are on the windows for review before entering...just reading them all makes you hungry. Good luck deciding! That said, they do have a menu on the wall by the counter inside and they have hard copies to take to your table as well. They have other items aside from sandwiches too, like Spaghetti and Parmigiana to name a few. You order at the counter and if you choose to eat in they'll bring the food to you. After you are done eating, you pay at the counter as well. Please note, you will have to pay for drink refills here. The staff is kind and helpful. There is plenty of parking. Keep in mind they aren't open on Sundays. End note: for some of you this deli may remind you of the deli's of yesteryear, when some of us were kids. Just entering this place may take you back...it's just pretty cool. Places like this just don't exist anymore and/or hard to find. We have always wanted to try this deli and we found ourselves in the neighborhood right around lunchtime. The place was filled with what seemed like x New Yorkers. There are a few tables inside and out in a true deli atmosphere with Italian products for sale, big deli counters, a freezer section filled with all kinds of fresh pastas and sauces. You can take home and reheat. We grabbed a table inside and the server took our order. I really enjoyed my chef salad with turkey. I'm sorry that my photo didn't turn out on that because it was huge and loaded with thinly sliced turkey meat and provolone cheese. My husband had a sub full of Italian style cold cuts layered on a fresh roll with the works. I was able to grab a photo of one half of the sandwich before he devoured it. We discovered D'aleo's because my husband loves Italian grinders. He is always looking for a great place to get one and our trip to this lunch stop did not disappoint. I would say keep in mind that this is definitely a local, italian run small business and not a chain. Even the menu was mostly hand written in post it notes on the walls. However, just run in and grab a sub to go for a great price and anything else the store is lacking won't really matter. My husband ordered the hit man and I went with the boss. Both featured at least 4 different types of meat and provolone cheese. As you can tell from my picture, the meat was so thick that it was actually overtaking the thin hoagie roll. My favorite part is that despite all of that meat, our sandwiches were ready in about 5 minutes. TIP-- There is a strange 3.5% surcharge for paying with card? I went to this place because my last experience was so wonderful. That was a long time ago but I had loved it so much I went back. I ordered a sausage, peppers and onions hot sub and a hot Philly cheesesteak. I also got their tiramisu. I was surprised at how small the subs where but I figured as long as they taste good it's all good. When I got home and opened the subs I was shocked. There were 6 small pieces of sausage and a tiny bit of vegetables. The philly looked like dried up steakums with a lot of onion and no peppers. Subs here are authentic! You will never find flavor like this from Subway. This is as close you will get to NY-Arthur Ave (Little Italy). I'm not Italian. But I grew up in an old industrial town in the Midwest. Thousands of Italians flooded in to work in the steel mills. And some of their family opened restaurants, delis, and grocery stores. I've had a hard time finding that kind of place down south. D'Aleo is that place for me here in St Augustine. It should also be notes that I worked for the Italian run sandwich shop in my hometown. I make my own subs and deli sandwiches, but what I now realize is that I wasn't using the best meats in the area. Again, D'Aleo is the answer. We ordered two sandwiches. One was prepared as a salad (some have indicated that is ordered as a bowl, not on my visit, I'd recommend ordering it as a salad). The bun was fresh, soft, but sturdy enough to stand up to the house dressing. I can't say enough about the quality of the meat and cheese. The salad was large, plenty of chopped meats and cheese. Watch the hot peppers. Most will probably not have a problem, but for those like me who are more sensitive to hot foods, be aware they have some heat. I also plan to pick up bulk olives, and meat and cheese by the pound. They have San Marzano tomatoes and plenty of dry pasta. Prices seemed reasonable on the bulk goods. I go here because they carry good imported cheese. This week I needed to buy some grating cheese. I arrived around 11:30. I was surprised by the line of people getting sandwiches.
