One night, my trusty MacBook Pro all of a sudden showed what some call the "white screen of death" on startup. The computer couldn't find the hard drive. My entire life is on my laptop so I started panicking. Had I been hacked? What was going on? I looked up computer repair. Darrell is close by so I texted him, asking if he could fix it asap. The response came right away: "Do you want to bring it by right now?" I wasn't expecting this. This was 9:30pm on a Sunday night, right after the Super Bowl. But Darrell was open for business. Five months after my laptop repair, I remember that I never provided a review for Derrell's Computer Repair Services. At the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic when all businesses were shutting their office doors and employees were instructed to work remotely, my laptop decided to crash. Derrell was able to fix my laptop fairly quickly and his price was reasonable for the repair. He told me at the beginning that if he could not fix my laptop, he won't charge me and he would give me recommendations for a new laptop if needed. Got a custom PC up and running! I thought I had a dead motherboard. Went to Darrell and he tested every part. He was even prepared to swap out any of his parts that are known to work. Turns out, everything was working. I was so surprised. He offered to either give me the parts back or for him to build it. Of course I asked him to build it because I'm just unlucky or something. When I came to pick it up, he turned it on for me as proof, spoke a little about the project, said he did a stress test for gaming, and the cable management was perfect. If I ever have a problem again, I'll go to him. He does work a full-time job and is working on other projects simultaneously. I think he helped with this build quickly, it only took 5-6 days to have it back for everything that he did. He does work in a backroom of his house which I was skeptical, but it is perfectly fine. Derrell is awesome! Several keys on my son's laptop keyboard stopped working. We needed someone who could fix it on the weekend, because he needed to take it back to school with him during the week. After researching several places with no luck, I found reviews of Derrell's Computer Repair on Yelp. Not only did he have all 5-star reviews, his place is in my neighborhood and he does repairs on weekends! We dropped the computer off late on Saturday. On Sunday morning (Mother's Day) Derrell disassembled, cleaned and tested the keyboard. Unfortunately it needed to be replaced. Darrell determined the part number he needed and we picked up the laptop so my son could take it back to school and use it with an external keyboard. Darrell took no payment that day and checked all his suppliers for the best price and warranty on a replacement keyboard. When the keyboard arrived, he let us know, and the next weekend we brought the laptop back - again on a Saturday. On Sunday morning Darrell told us that the repairs were complete and we came to pick up the laptop. Darrell charged a single low fixed price for all of his labor and got a great price on the replacement keyboard. The laptop now works as good as new. I dropped off my old PC for a failure to boot issue that I couldn't solve, and Derrell managed to isolate the issue to a driver incompatibility on the video card. I'm super bummed about the service I got. His reviews were amazing so I'm not sure what happened. Long story short, he told me I needed a new keyboard. He ordered 3 different keyboards and they were all either defective or the wrong one. This isnt even what upset me. What upset is is that he was supposed to be ordering a 4th keyboard. Derrell is THE MAN!!! My story is that I had a Dell laptop that my mother gave me when I went off to college. It worked like a dream, day in and day out, for approximately 7 years. Then one day I got "the blue screen of death." I took it to Best Buy, as it was covered under Geek Squad tech support. Geek Squad took my laptop for a day and then told me it was my hard drive and that the data wad COMPLETELY UNRECOVERABLE. Disappointed with the employees of that particular Best Buy it decided to try another location. When I took it into the second Best Buy they wouldn't even take the laptop because apparently the first Geek Squad techs had damaged my serial number and it was against policy if the serial number was not visible!!! He must have wiped the laptop down with an alcohol wipe or something to smear the ink numbers off. I mean that's gotta be a huge rookie move if you ask me. Furious in what Best Buy had done, I did research on Yelp for a independent Computer Tech guy/gal. I stumbled upon a plethora of them. Yet I went with Derrell after reading some other reviews and seeing how he was close to me. It is one of my best choices in recent memory. Don't be fooled, Derrell does his work out of his home/garage. You may feel slightly indifferent leaving it up to a man in his garage just as I did. However, have no fear, Derrell is completely professional, kind, and a family man. No funny business. Derrell took my laptop and went to work the next night (he does this side computer stuff at home at night). He seriously jumped through what must have been 10 big hoops. He even took it to his day job (that is also computer related) to use insanely mature professional grade software to search for my data on what was according to Geek Squad, "a piece of trash." It took about a week and a half but Derrell pulled off what Best Buy/Geek Squad would have deemed UTTERLY IMPOSSIBLE. He recovered my data, put it on both a thumb drive and a CD. I now have my old book ideas, old tax forms, pictures of deceased family members, and all of my miscellaneous forms, ALL THANKS TO Derrell. He charges a flat fee ranging from I think $50.00-$70.00. Even though my situation was a extremely time consuming and difficult one, his rate was still just $50.00. I was so elated and grateful, I paid Derrell the $50.00 flat fee and then gave him two times that amoiunt as a tip. He earned every penny as far as I am concerned for his kindness, professional prowess, and for working what would be a miracle according to the so called "techs" at Best Buy. I was updated regularly on the status of my computer and explained what was wrong and what was needed to fix it (in language I could understand - I am not very tech savvy). Derrell's reviews are definitely spot on! I had a huge issue... my thumbdrive broke. I had called another data recovery service up north and they quoted me the price of $2400 to retrieve my data (3gb). Talk about highway robbery! My husband suggested I calm down and look around for other businesses that offer the same types of services. I always filter businesses near me that are 5 stars, and low and behold Derrell's business was at the top of my list. I was able to meet with Derrell right away, and he spent about 3 days trying different options. Although he was not able to retrieve my data, he did manage to recommend another local company AND he didn't charge me for his labor.
