I am overdue to write a 5 star review of our favorite, local Italian restaurant, Tony & Nello's! My wife and I live close by and dine here frequently. More importantly, the quality is such that we frequently bring our house guests here for dinner and they constantly love the experience. The entire wait staff have been with the restaurant for a long time and are all very service oriented and friendly. The portions are HUGE! Warning - we routinely get 3 servings out of a single dish, so order accordingly ;-D Their Pizza is amazing and the Chicken/Veal Parmesan is a consistent winner. We also love the Scampi & Pasta dishes. The Sausage and Peppers appetizers is a particular standout and the bread that accompanies the meals is simply amazing! If you are anywhere near Tierra Verde, do yourself a favor and break bread at Tony & Nello's - you'll become a return customer too! read more

Annual trip to Ft Desoto. Dined in this year. Fabulous pasta. Our table had chicken marsala, cacciatore, shrimp scampi and pasta primavera. All were delectable and portions were large. The stand out was the roasted pepper bruschetta, best appetizer I've had in a very long time. It was massive and would make a great meal for 2, with side salads. Service was sketchy because they were busy and our waitress was new. 20 minutes to get wine... Ambiance was noisy and crowded but the food made up for it. read more

This is definitely authentic Italian food. We had penne a la vodka and it was flavorful and so creamy. The pizza, amazing! We ate the entire pizza between two people because it was just that good. Best tiramisu and cannolis we've ever had. The meatballs melt in your mouth and the marinara sauce was the real MVP in all this, it was homemade and made every dish just that much better. Hannah said she was new but she was far from a new server, she may have been just new here. She was excellent! My wife has come here a bunch but this was my first time. My house salad and bread appetizer were excellent. I ordered the Nello's Carbonara and it was great. My family enjoyed the veal piccata and Alfredo. Heard great things about the pizza. We where visiting from out of town a little sceptical at first but we said let's try it so we walked inside and was met by the waiter who was friendly after a few qustions we decided to order a pizza 1/2 sausage roasted peppers and 1/2 fresh mushrooms and it came out pipping hot larger than most lg pizza around we could only eat 2 slices and decided to box the rest . the pie was quite filling lots of cheese and sausage pep[ers and mushrooms the best way to describe it "Delish" the next day heated it up it was fantastic a go to if on Terverdi I can't wait to get back to try other foods they serve. read more

We're staying with our Aunt and Uncle for a month here in Tierra Verde and wanted to try this place. My husband and I are foodies and love supporting local businesses. Dinner for four included a large pizza, which was HUGE, Greek salad - also huge, and a nice bottle of Chianti. Everything was delicious and perfectly made. Visiting our daughter in St Petersburg over Easter weekend. She took us to Tony & Nello's in Tierra Verde. Walking in, the smells were so darn fabulous, we knew the flavors were going to be spot on!! Not a huge restaurant but plenty of space to enjoy yourselves. Nicely decorated with plenty of that Italian feel. Not quite busy yet, so we sat at the bar. Johnny was our Bartender .... Very friendly guy. Asked what we wanted to drink, we weren't sure because we had JUST sat down and looking over the menu. Very, very attentive. Plus he was answering the phones & getting to-go orders lined up. He worked like a Swiss watch. By the time we left, the place quite full of guests and orders were flying out the door. We figured out what we wanted. Pizza !! Found out EVERYTHING was in large portions. We ordered a tossed salad, ($14.95) which was plenty enough to feed 4, easily. I ordered a glass of wine...nice pour by the way, Johnny. Thank you. They delivered some hot bread as well. Delicious !! Then the large pizza arrived, for the three of us..... 1/2 meal lovers & 1/2 Tony's Special. OMG..... it was HUGE !! Loaded with sausage, pepperoni, peppers & black olives. It was certainly full of flavor. Guess we got the NY style because it was very, very thin. Tasty but we would have preferred it with a thicker "chew" on the crust. If they offer a thicker crust... we missed it. We each ate one slice, took the rest of it home and had it for breakfast the next day !! Just as tasty ! Yes, highly recommended. Really liked this place suggested to me by friends. Why? Because they make a great gluten free pie and other stuff I don't get to eat a lot. There were gf pasta options but with the smells in play this is where I broke my blasted pizza fast. Sure glad I did it was worth it. I even took some home for later after giving it my best shot! We were recommended to dine here by two different friends that live in the area. Had we known this 30 years ago, we would have been there every time we come down. We were greeted with smiles and it was so cool to be able to see into the kitchen and have a look at that brick oven!! Tara was our delightful server and treated us like we regulars! The fried Calamari was breaded to perfection and the fresh HOT bread was remarkable! We split the Veal Saltimboca which was cooked to perfection and we ordered a Tiramisu to go! My dish was good and a huge portion. Bread was delicious and everyone in our party enjoyed our meals. I only rated four stars because A) I drove 30 minutes to get here because I craving lasagna. Got there at 6pm and they took my order only to return 15 minutes later to tell me they were out of lasagna. I understand the issues with making lasagna, but it's only 6pm, your open until 9pm and you run out. Makes little sense to me and I never got to try their lasagna. B) The meals state that bread is included, we were a party of 8 and were only given enough bread that we each got a very tiny slice. I later asked for more and the waitress seemed shocked that I was asking. We did get more and it was delicious. read more

Took almost an hour to get two appetizers and a house salad. The waiter was worried we would not tip him so he sent Nello's wife ( she apparently is the manager). She firmly informed me that she decided that our meal should take almost an hour wait for our order because they were busy ( not when we got there) for 2 appetizers and one house salad, even though those around us that arrived after us were getting served food., because she decides the order of the food that goes out. There was drama happening between the server and management and that affected our food service. We tipped the server 25% but unfortunately will not be back. The manager was rude to me 6 years ago when she was Nelly's fiancée. Now she's more rude and ugly today. The food is good, and portion size is fantastic, but she is a turn off. read more

Came here after a day at Ft Desoto and Egmont Key. We were in coverups and sandals. The place is casual but nice. The service was excellent. Our waitress was on top of checking on us and refilling drinks. I ordered the Eggplant parmigiana but with Alfredo sauce instead of a red sauce. It is served with a side of pasta. So good! Didn't reheat well the next day but the day of was incredible! I heated it up in the microwave instead of the oven so that may have made the difference. Would definitely go back! read more

went there last night to meet friends but were to sit at a table next to them since they had a large party which when we made reservations told no problem we got very nice waitress said she was sorry the table that was across from them that was empty would not be available to us and we would have to seat far away from the came to hope to be and that the would not change your mind. I asked to talk to her and she was unresponsive to my request so we took the table available and had dinner the table that we had requested stayed empty for the full duration. We were there and at least a half an hour after my friend had left , when I mentioned this to the person in charge, she was rude and told us there was just too bad. She didn't know how long we were going to be there and it was just too bad if we didn't like it, so sad that a successful has a disregard for a good customer I was told it was the owner's daughter. On my first full night in town, while visiting my mom for the holidays, we ordered takeout from Tony and Nello's. We ordered their chopped salad, which came overflowing with tons of delicious toppings. And we ordered a pizza that was pepperoni and mushroom. I didn't place the order, so I'm not sure what size the pizza was, but whatever size it was, it was ginormous and enough to feed three hungry adults with leftovers. The glorious slices of pizza were gooey with cheese and the size of my head. Given the size, I was surprised how well the pizza crust held up to all of that cheese and toppings. The style of pizza definitely reminded me of New York style pizza and had that wonderful balance of flavor and greasy goodness. I would definitely come back and order pizza from here again the next time I'm in town. read more

Very good, we made a large pickup order, and the food was great. We did the eggplant rollatini. In my opinion, the sauce was a bit sweet, which is typically a con for me, but it worked here. Very good. Now a word of caution food can get a touch charred, but I wouldn't call it burnt. Also had some wings, they were big and fried well before saucing. This is a local favorite for the neighborhood. They have decent pizza and big portions for their entrees I only come here once a year since I do low carb yet when My group of friends want take out this place is their top pick. We call in our order, describe our car & 35-40 mins later you can drive up, pick up and go. They make it very easy. We ordered one pasta dish that lasted for 3 days. This is our favorite italian restaurant! It's so tasty, tons of food and just a great atmosphere. Last night was so busy! I felt bad for the workers but they all did a great job. I had the fra Diablo shrimp pasta, as king as you don't mind very spicy it's amazing. My husband had a pizza which looked perfect and tasted even better. You definitely need a reservation between January and April. In the past we have had the raviolis and eggplant parmigiana. I have yet to have a bad meal. It was impossible to hold a conversation, since the noise level was like being in an echo chamber, so Take Out and maybe sitting at the bar would be a better dining choice.
