We have been at this storage unit for over 10 years. The previous lady that ran the place was always nice and helpful, she has since retired and they have a new person running the place. This woman is NOT nice, is NOT helpful, IS QUITE RUDE, and IS DRIVING PEOPLE OUT. Simply she is a b****. The owners raise the prices every single month which is also driving people out. NO ONE SHOULD RENT FROM HERE. Tell all your friends and family to stay away from these storage units and if you or someone you know rent here, tell them to vacate and go somewhere else. My Husband and I are planning a Big Move from Texas to Reno/Sparks Nevada in the near future. We had packed a PODS Unit with a lot of our Things but needed to cut back on the monthly Fee PODS was charging. Our Stuff didn't need climate controlled storage so we found Desert Highlands Mini Storage. I spoke on the phone with the manager, Alanna, and I was Extremely Satisfied with her assistance ! After discussing our Dilemma with her, she assured me that she would find the Perfect Unit for our needs so that our PODS container would not interfere with Other Patrons ! She was Absolutely Spot On !! When my husband and I arrived, we had the honor of meeting Alanna and she showed us the Unit She Chose for us Which is 1/2 the Price we were paying for our PODS Unit ! Our PODS Unit was delivered expertly, my husband and I Unloaded it, moving it into the Fixed Unit at Desert Highlands and later that afternoon the PODS unit was Picked up ! The minus one star is because its incredibly difficult to get someone on the phone. They have an answering service once it rings too long (even during business hours) But overall my experience with Alana and this location is great. Alanna has always proved very responsive via email and helpful with all my questions/requests. Although i do agree the amount that they raised their prices by this year were pretty shocking. We park our 25' trailer at Desert Highlands Mini Storage. The facility is nice and clean and the owners are easy to work with. If you pay 6 months at a time, approximately $65 a month for our trailer, you get the 7th month free. The only reason I give this unit a "3" is that fact that our trailer was broken into this past spring, costing over $1000 dollars in damage. They stole our TV, DVD player, all our movies, and other misc items that they were able to grab on the way out. We also had to have all the locks re-keyed that cost $250 alone. The storage unit management did their best to track down the perpetrators, including getting a Sparks PD Detective involved. The fact that they did not have sufficient surveillance cameras installed prior to the incident was a big letdown. They proactively called any customers that had noticeable damage but we were either skipped on accident or went unnoticed. It was quit stressful for my husband to find the damage only 3 days before a scheduled trip down to the Las Vegas Nascar race in March. We had to file a claim with our insurance company that cost $250. We do know this is the only break-in in their history (5+ years from what I recall). The management staff was helpful but there should have been more precautions in place. They did move us to a new spot that is closer to the entrance and well lit. They also told us that they would be investing in a new security system with full video capacity but I'm not sure if that happened, good follow-up from the staff would have been helpful. If you are interested in storage that this location, it would be a good thing to inquire about current security precautions. read more

I've been with Desert Storage over 20 years and they keep getting worst and worst. Late fees going up. Less days to pay. Front desk manager Alana don't care. She always says, call the owner, who never answers. I have two units, one for each son. The one son is current, but still can't get in. The other son is 1-2 days late and also locked out. Two different contracts, but Alana refuses to understand. 20 yrs and they still treat us like crap. Even with the virus going on. Dont care about nobody. Customer Service....sucks!!! read more

They raise and try to get you anyway they can- see they tried to make us pay insurance extra 20 and found out a lot of people already have it through homeowners- so that didn't work. So now they just want to raise rent another 25 per month- plus trying to make you pay more on insurance through them- making it mandatory or you leave! Forget this place! They are robbers and always looking for ways to get more money out of you! They claim it's because more people want units! I call bull****! You always see empty units or none being used because no locks on them! People are going other places and building more store facilities and they are losing business so they are trying to make more money from us! Nothing about higher demand! They lie and should be reported! It's like you can't get away from them! You'll pay forever and ever! A bad creditor hounds you! They are the worse! Should be sued! Use anyone in town but here! This company is an absolute money-gouger and zero risk taker. Beware that if you store goods at this place, they require you to sign on to a "Customer Storage Protection Agreement" which provides reimbursement up to a maximum value of $3000 (for a $21/month fee) or $5000 (for a $28/month fee) if your possessions are damaged while in storage. This Agreement is not true insurance, but waives the Tenant's requirement to have personal property insurance on their stored goods. They will allow you to not have the Storage Protection Agreement if you can provide proof that your homeowner's or renter's insurance covers your stored goods. The catch is, however, and something they don't tell you in writing nor in the Rental Agreement, they require your insurance company to name Desert Highlands Mini Storage as an insured on your insurance policy. This is total bull-shit, because your insurance company does not want to provide liability insurance to the storage company. Nice going you fucking morons. read more

i almost never need to rent a storage unit. i went to this one because of the extra security. i didn't realize that they don't prorate. i paid for the month i found a better solution to my storage needs. i gave a 10 day notice like they request. i was out early. now they are keeping my rent for the rest of the month and on top of that the space is already rented to someone else. i still have two full weeks left!!! since they will not give me what is left on our agreement they should not be allowed to double rent it. what crap, worst storage rental experience ever! read more

Moved household into Desert Highlands in June. Very easy to do, minimum paperwork. Much easier than "Public Storage" in amount of paperwork, and we didn't have to buy one of their locks (which Is a waste of $). Very nice staff. We didn't have any problems, all was safely stored. We highly recommend this facility. I would use them again if I needed storage, even though it's 10 miles away from our house now. read more
