Went and saw Dracula Saturday night. THE SHOW WAS AMAZING, we had a blast, my 8 year olds said it was the funniest show ever, and we were laughing just as much. The characters were awesome!! Only took a star off for the seating... I had a very large person next to me, and she was basically fattin over into my seat we were so close...Other than that, it was great! read more

Went here today while on vacation and saw nutcracker men in tights. I appreciated that the entertainment was fun and appropriate for all ages as we had a variety of kids of all ages. When you're seated, your table has popcorn on it ready to eat and then you can order whatever you want. We had a chicken wrap and then some ice cream later on in the show. The script was funny and the singing was great. They interact with the crowd which makes it a fun immersive experience. The actors and piano player had a lot of talent and enjoyed our visit there and would come back again. read more

Been here several times over the past 10 years. We always enjoy the theater, but over time the space granted for each customer has decreased. Last time was put on a table for two which was small, make that tiny. It was difficult to put drinks on that table, and when we ordered a small amount of food it became a nightmare of balancing things on our laps, the table, and in our hands. On top of that others were stacked on top of us, and try as we might we couldn't help but having a "cattle car" experience. Unless they change this working model, unlikely to return. read more

My husband and I love desert star shows. I end up laughing more than I thought was possible. It is always an excellent date night option. Last night we saw "Into the Hoods" we both thought it was the best one we have ever seen! Hilarious! We always get the bbq chicken pizza which is excellent too. All of the actors are incredibly talented acting wise as well as being able to sing. All of the seats in the theater are great! The piano player has serious talent too! read more

Four of us have had season tickets for around 20 years now. Still love the shows and the great feeling of a fun night out when we leave. I love the idea of the performers being out in the hall and doorways on our way out so that we can speak to them. We almost always order a same favorite pizza The Milano. It has always been so good except for the last two times we had it (last night included). It seems like the sauce and the toppings were really skimpy the last two times. One star for 2 staff people who "tried" to correct a horrible experience at the DST and make it acceptable. A group of 19 ladies planned a fun evening at DST on Thursday, May 26. Upon arrival, having made reservations nearly a month in advance, we were shown to our seats. Two of us arrived shortly after the main group. Only 17 seats were provided for our group of 19. So, we sat at a table next to the rest of our group. About 2 minutes before show time, those two were told they were in the wrong seats. Now....lights out, show begins. Here are 2 of us being squeezed into 2 tables with 5 at each table. Staff were bringing in more chairs, drinks got spilled, commotion all around. Patrons behind us, as well as our group meanwhile, missed the the first 10 minutes or more of the opening act. 5 ladies each around 2, two foot diameter tables with 5 drinks, 5 meals, on each. People couldn't see, no room for food. One lady who had to move is 80+ years old, in the dark and struggling to see where she needed to go. People behind us, telling us to sit down, etc. Very embarrassing and Not Our Fault. Poor planning and accommodating from management was the source of the problem. Missing a good portion of the opening act, it was very difficult to hear and understand what the cast was saying. The acoustics were horrible at best. DST. You need to stop packing in your patrons like sardines to make an extra buck. Charge a buck more for your tickets and eliminate these rediculous tables for five. Be more accommodating and concerned for your patrons comfort and enjoyment of your venue. Fix the sound system. We were offered a discount on our next engagement to "correct" the most unfortunate and embarrassing situation that we experienced. Well...not one of us is willing to take a chance on DST ever again. Too bad, you have an opportunity for providing a fun venue for people to enjoy. read more

Love this place, vert fun and intimate, and super romantic!

We have been about 50 times to the Desert Star Theater and overall have loved our experience there. This past year we have had season tickets with another couple and enjoy our set "date" with them every few months. Like a lot of the reviews on here, the seating is horrible, but I can't think of a better solution for filling the theater the way they need to as a business and accommodating all the guests. Especially at a dinner theater. I'm sure they would be open to viable options not just complaints. I like the local, current jokes about our community. It keeps things fresh. They honestly have some of the best pizza around. Go figure. A bit pricey, but for the quality it's not bad. The -1 from me mostly comes from the loud waiters and waitresses that take orders and bring food during the show. Not sure how to remedy that problem, but "we are trying to listen over here!" Also wish they had a bigger lobby. Sardines as you wait for them to start seating you. read more

It was tolerable at best. If you are not from Utah... don't go see this you will be bored to death because you will not get ANY of the humor and the rest of the storyline will seem really lame. Buyer Beware! This is a terrible place to go for a date. We were crammed at a table with strangers, and I had to sit in a chair in front of my boyfriend with my back to him (so much for much needed couple time). To make matters worse the servers constantly bumped my legs throughout the 20 minutes we lasted before we gave up and left the show. When we asked for a change in seating or show night we were reminded by the unconcerned staff that there are no refunds. This place was definitely a disappointment. Go to the OBT instead. They care about their customers and have never let us down! read more

This is such a fun place, and family friendly. The shows are comedic and the people are extremely friendly. The only issue we had was the small sitting area. Other than that I would recommend this to anyone. read more

Disappointing experience. I hadn't been the Desert Star in a while and thought I would bring some people to try their Christmas show and was overall disappointed. It has got to be a hazard with how many people they try to cram around those small tables. It was incredibly uncomfortable and that alone would make me not want to return for a 2+ hour show. However, then the show started and it wasn't just a spoof but had religious, political and local jabs all throughout - some timely and some not. A reference to Auerbach's and The Paris? Very old and very specific to certain locals. The commentary just got tired after a while and the story didn't make sense. The food is not worth ordering and the servers even had a hard time navigating around all of the people to serve and clear with some food spilling. The best parts of the evening were the piano player who does a stellar job throughout; the Olio afterwards with the cast singing and dancing - totally separate from the theme of the play which sort of salvaged the evening; and the ample parking in the back. read more

Their Christmas play is terrible this year (2016). The only redeeming factors were the Karl Malone year in review and the "Tom Shame" adds. As season ticket holders we have come to expect better than this. read more

If I could give Desert Star Theater zero stars I would. Its manager Laura told me that the theater did NOT care enough to spend less that 5 minutes to assist in the use of gift certificates. Laura said that the theater would take every dime you have if it can - any way it can. Laura said that she and other management simply don't give a damn; they're out to get every any dime it can anyway it can. If management says they care, they don't. I will never buy another ticket or another gift certificate there again. read more

i have been a fan forever. yes you can go to kingsbury hall and pioneer theatre and capital which are way more expensive but desert star has its own ambiance. i have been disappointed in more capital theatre shows than ever at desert star. if i would ever be disappointed at desert star it would not hurt nearly as much as $150.00+ ticket for highly advertised shows at capital. there is really no hype at desert star and they do not pretend to be broadway. this a casual dining experience that we love. maybe you "complainers" can just donate your time , artistic talents and creativity to making the theater more compatible with your expectations. perhaps they would welcome your input. you go cast and crew your patrons love you ! linda bailey taylorsville, ut read more

The performances are good. The food is okay. One of the waitresses lost her balance and spilled an entire tray of drinks on me in the middle of the show. I was wet the entire time, but they felt bad and without hesitation they offered to pay for our meals because of the inconvenience. My case is a pretty rare one, but it was nice to see them so eager to make things right when something went wrong. Planning to go back again. read more

I've been to the Desert Star Theater several times throughout the past 10 years. It gets worse each time I attend. The actors do a decent job and most of the shows are pretty funny, but the seating and food service are horrible. It's too crowded to eat comfortably and the food is awful. Everything is bland. Our server forgot the meal of someone in our group and didn't bring us any utensils for our salad. We waited and waited. All of our food got cold. I finally got up during the show and went to the kitchen. All of the servers were standing around, talking. I talked to a different server and our utensils and food were brought out about 10 minutes later. It was almost intermission. Then, when we were finally able to eat, we found that another one of our meals was the wrong meal. A hamburger was delivered to someone who ordered a chicken sandwich. Is it really this hard to get it right? Maybe the servers are too rushed to get everything in and out during the play. They should just do the play and maybe drinks and snacks and forget trying to serve dinner. read more
