We reserved a morning tour in the month of January as a large group. The intro was quick and we were on the trail in no time. The machines were sturdy and well kept. I enjoyed touring the Sonoran desert. I had no idea that cactus were as plentiful as they are on the tour. I am a geology nut so the variety of rocks we saw were great. This adventure was a once in a lifetime experience Noah was a fantastic guide and interpreter we learned a lot about desert life plants and animals saw literally hundreds of saguero cactuses I saw a hair donkeys and some cattle. The Tom cars easily handled the rough terrain even though we are in the middle of the Sonoran desert we felt safe with our guide Noah we even learned how to get water out of a certain type of cactus in an emergency this was a great desert tour 3 hours in the Sonoran desert I would highly recommend it read more

This was THE best destination experience I have ever taken. From the start, the staff, especially our guide, Rick, was fun, entertaining, super-friendly, and knowledgeable. He guided us through how the Tomcars operate, and got us out on the trail in no time at all. Once out on the trails, we went at a pace that anyone with zero off-road experience could manage, but is still fun for those with experience, and had a break for driver swaps & vehicle check-ups to ensure everything is going smoothly. Once moving, he guided us to the range area, and set us up for some shooting fun with a wide array of 'toys' he brought, from and Uzi, all the way to a Barrett, with a lot in-between. His firearm instruction was second to none, and prepped everyone with the basics and cardinal safety rules (everyone seems to pay attention more when you're packing heat), what to expect from the full-auto weapons, and on to shooting we went. Standard items available were the 9mm Uzi, M4, and some classic M1919 WWII belt fed action, with add-ons being a SCAR-H, MP5, S&W .500 Mag revolver, and the epic Barrett M99 .50BMG. After the shoot Rick gave us an option of a way back where we could open up the machines for some fast action after some technical driving, or another slower-paced trail. Well, you know what we chose, and after some serious up and down rock crawling and trail negotiating, we got to a spot that was flat and had fun making some big dust clouds and running full throttle. I would hands down do this adventure not only again, but every chance I get. In fact, we're already planning to do another driving trip the next time we're in AZ. If you're looking for an excellent adventure to try the next time you're near Phoenix, DEFINITELY give Desert Wolf a call... You'll have a blast, literally. read more

Derik led our group of 11 on an awesome 3 hour adventure through the beautiful Sonoran Desert up near New River. We had frequent stops and he let everyone take turns to drive the TomCat vehicles. Derik also shared a plethora of knowledge about the desert plants, animals & creatures that inhabit the desert. We romped up and through the rocky roads, washes & terrain. We had an amazing experience with Derick in early March 2023. Our family of 4 booked a Monday afternoon tour and ended up being the only group there. I was so impressed Desert Wolf did not cancel on us. The 3 hour guided tour was an exciting adventure that allowed us New Englanders to experience the Arizona landscape. Our tour guide Ken, did a phenomenal job instructing us how to handle the TomCar as well as provide tons of fascinating information about the local ecosystem including vegetation, wildlife and history of the area itself. Be prepared for a bit of workout handling the TomCars however! As they have no power steering and the rock climbs can the jerk the wheel quite a bit! Overall, this trip is definitely worth the money if you're stopping through town and need a small adrenaline kick! read more

Our tour guide, Matt, as excellent. He was courtesy, professional, safe, and entertaining. The experience itself was fun as well. The Tomcars were fun drive, despite lacking power brakes/steering. The Sonoran Desert is always cool to explore and Matt knew quite a bit about the desert and its surroundings. My wife and I would definitely do it again. Adventure in nature is what we like most when we travel. Four wheeling in the desert is so much fun and you never know what you're going to see. I loved how Hunter would stop every so often and allow us to switch drivers. While we were switching drivers and stretching out legs, he would educate us on the plants and animals of the area. (Bonus: they employ Veterans and Retired peace officers) We had a large group of 51 people and they accommodated us so well. There was plenty of water and rest stops. We did the 3 1/2 tour (plenty of time) and it's something that everyone can handle. The TomCars are amazing and what they can handle is incredible. Just when you think 'we can never get up and through that" the TomCar plows through. I love the fact that you don't need a helmet since the cars are so reinforced. It was so cool driving through the Sonoran Desert and learning about the various plants and wildlife. I thought the price was very reasonable. Serious bang for your buck. People want to judge us Millennials with our spending, eating out, and our cravings for experiences. Let me tell you and I don't say this lightly WHAT AN EXPERIENCE THIS WAS! I wasn't sure what to expect when my group visited this place but I had so much fun. The guide, Chris, was great. Certain experiences like this could easily get a bad review by the know-it-all guides out there that think they're doing you a favor. Chris was nice, easily patient, and made sure none of us were having any issues while on the trail. If you don't hike or backpack, then you absolutely must do this! Even if you do hike or backpack, this is a great way to experience the desert in a completely different way. There were four of us and each car holds four people. In our particular line of vehicles, the guide was alone in front with the four of us behind and a couple following behind us. The experience can start out slow as the vehicles don't go incredibly fast. Once you're out on the trail, you don't even notice. It doesn't take long until you're driving over rocks and through rocky dry creeks. The guide makes sure that everyone gets to drive. We made numerous stops to change drivers. The other perk is that during the stops, everyone gets out and the guide has something to teach you. I'm used to the east coast. That makes the desert landscape and surroundings still fairly new to me. Out of all the places we went in Arizona, I probably learned the most about the Saguaro cactus from this tour. I even had a chance to eat a cactus! Learning about the desert, the wildlife, and plants was incredibly interesting to me. This experience is definitely worth the money. I do appreciate that my lovely girlfriend asked if she could take a pee at one of the stops. Chris understood but you could tell he was both surprised and thought it was funny. I'm sure it's not every day that people ask to pee out in the middle of the desert. It made me laugh seeing her run to find a cactus/bush to conceal herself. You do get a dust head/face band to keep the dust out of your mouth. I'd suggest wearing some type of eyewear or sunglasses to keep the dust out of your eyes. I didn't have any issues with the dust until I was riding in the seat behind the driver. For some reason, that seemed to be the seat catching all the dust during this trip. This is one experience that I wouldn't hesitate doing again. read more

I'm sure the other guides are good but ask for Brandi! She is knowledgeable, high energy and hilarious. The Tomcars are a cool experience even for an experienced driver. They are set to not go as fast which made the new drivers in our group comfortable to try driving. The route is great, beautiful views, some rough terrain and lots of dust, but hey that's the desert! Brandi was super clear with the safety protocols and made sure we were all strapped in. The amount of knowledge she had about plants and cacti was great. Loved the touch of food sample and the prickly pear drink. Her sense of humor while sharing information made it 100x better than any other guide I've had.
