When I'm in the mood for a cozy and hearty feast, I think peppers and spices and soups and sauces and rice. Desi Chulha's menu is quintessential Indian cuisine. And one of my fave things about Indian food is that you often have something super savory and spicy paired with something cool and bright -- that contrast is just the best. Like the aloo tikka chaat, for example: perfectly boiled potatoes, onions, and all kinds of spices served piping hot alongside a mint-coriander yogurt sauce and chickpeas... Yes, please! And that's just a single appetizer. I'm a big fan of both the lentil and tomato soups, the butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, aloo matar (potatoes & peas), saag paneer (spinach & Indian cheese), any kebab, and all of the rice! Oh my GOD! Prepare to have your world rocked by their vindaloo. I like spice and my husband picked up some to go vindaloos for us. The spice mix of the vindaloo is absolutely outstanding and the chunks of chicken therein are perfect. I understand that the chef actually customized the spice mix per my husband's request. I can't speak any other menu items - but if you want a spicy vindaloo - get your ass here stat! I live two hours away but I'll make special trips to eat here. read more

Tandoori chicken was good...it was about 15min wait but came out fresh, not dry. Chicken curry had a lot of chicken pieces, but not enough curry sauce. It was a bit saltier than I'm used to but eating with Naan and it was good. Naan was typical....can't really go wrong I think.place was pretty clean. Overall, not the best I've had but enjoyable...especially since we've not had indian food in a few months and so this did hit the spot. Highly recommend the Paneer Pakora and Paneer Butter Masala (yeah I got a thing for the paneer don't judge me). Portion sizes are decent and always fresh fresh fresh. I would avoid the Tea and the price for a soda (can) isn't worth it but everything else is A+. read more

My first time ordering from here and I was super excited because I love Indian cuisine. I ordered 2 drinks and 2 vegetarian entrees. I ordered the Chana Masala and Malai Kofta. Both dishes come with white rice and I also got two orders of Roti. The food was amazing! The service was great and fast. The restaurant offers seating (booths and tables) and takeout as well. Visited for the first time this past weekend 8/28. Small restaurant but big flavor. Loved the vegetable pakora , chicken vindaloo, lamb vindaloo, and butter chicken. The chicken kabobs came on a sizzling platter like fajitas would, super hot and delicious. Service was done I think by the daughter of the owner it wasn't bad service but could tell she maybe needed some help for our large table. Will definitely visit again. read more

We went for dine-in on Friday night around 8 pm. The restaurant was empty with a guy at the register who was not very welcoming. The restaurant was extremely dirty, with all tables with leftover food and dirty dishes, dirty floors, broken toilet. A girl seated us after a few min. At this point I was not sure if I wanted to eat there...we decided to stay and just ordered one enree, veg korma with roti, paneer kulcha and gobhi paratha. If I could give Desi Chulha 6 stars, I gladly would. I've never been a huge fan of Indian food, but they've changed my mind entirely! We've ordered takeout from them the last several Fridays and have been absolutely amazed every time with every dish. First off, we've ordered our takeout for delivery and it has shown up in record time every time. A great way to start. Plus, their menu is very reasonably priced, allowing us to sample a bit more of it. First, the chicken samosa make an amazing appetizer. Flaky, full and flavorful, they're a great way to kick things off. We've also totally fallen in love with the Chicken Naan and always order it to dip in whatever else we order. From a curry standpoint, I've found my favorite is the Lamb Vindaloo, which is spicy and flavorful. My husband on the other hand has taken a particular liking to the Chicken Tikka Masala. Both are excellent. We've also greatly enjoyed the Samosa Chaat with the delicious chickpeas. We've never been takeout people, but I think we are now! read more

We have ordered several more times from this restaurant as take out and my only complaint that keeps it from being in our regular weekly rotation is that they don't give you enough rice. The past two times we have ordered two orders of chicken tikka masala and they have us one rice that really would have been enough for one. I thought it was a mistake and I ended up having to cook more rice which defeats the point of ordering out. It happened again tonight with "2 orders" written on the one rice container. I like this place! They had iced Chai, and it was a big size. They noticed I got a mango lassi for my son and appropriately brought a small cup with a lid. Food was good. My husband was impressed their mixed grill contained several pieces of fish! I liked their stuffed cauliflower paratha. I got the lamb tikka masala and loved it. The staff is very friendly here and the decorations give a good initial impression, but the food was too spicy for us to recommend this to anyone that doesn't enjoy spicy food. What's also frustrating is that we asked for mild food and we told the waitress that I could handle spicy, but my wife could not. Her food was just as spicy as mine and I'm surprised she put up with it. Additionally, the chicken samosas we purchased were very dry, like the food was overcooked. I have to say, I found this place on Yelp and I have never been disappointed. Their food is amazing. I tend to be a chicken guy and order most dishes with chicken. I need to be braver and step outside my comfort zone. Let's start with the apps. Aloo tikki chaat is very flavorful. Chicken samosa is pretty solid. Main dishes, chicken vindaloo is delicious! I have now eaten here twice and ordered completely different dishes each time. The food is fresh, the ingredients top quality and the service is fantastic. The waiters are very pleasant fellows and they and the kitchen staff are extremely responsive to getting the level of spice/heat in line with customer requests and the rice is perfectly cooked each time! I also appreciate that the portions are generous but not too large. I have tried a few chicken dishes and the Mulligatawny soup along with various naan breads and salad. Fantastic Indian food in Bedford. Definitely worth the drive from Irving or even Dallas. We got the Goat buhna, the saag paneer, the lamb kheema samosas, and the lamb biryani. The goat was out of this world. Tender meat and a luscious gravy. The saag paneer was also quite nice. We enjoyed the lamb samosas too. The biryani wasn't bad, but they went a little overboard on the essence. But nevertheless, the food is amazing and we will be back for sure. First time trying out this restaurant. We ordered fish biryani, non vegetarian platter appetizer and goat bhuna. Warning, no heat is still hot for this American family. Still all delicious though. I wasn't tasting much of the fish in the biryani but my kids loved the rice and chicken pakora and chicken tikki. We ordered for pickup. It would have been quick but we waited for fresh naan which wasn't a bad wait at all. The mango lassi got left behind but we were able to go back and pick it up to enjoy! This place was very good, and I'm really happy there's an Indian food spot near my home. If I had to nitpick a little bit, the samosas we tried were pretty dry, though the flavor was there. I'd probably try a different appetizer next time. However, the lamb tikka masala was excellent--very flavorful. We ate it with garlic naan bread and also had the garlic butter chicken. The menu is extensive, offering a wide variety of dishes. The restaurant feels authentically Indian, but they could clean up the two back booths near the bathrooms, where there are a lot of to-go containers and storage equipment visible. This is just a minor issue and not a dealbreaker for me. We will definitely come back to try other items on the menu. The waiter was really nice and attentive. I'm curious to see how the restaurant handles larger groups on busy nights. In our experience, there was a large family of 10 to 15 people, and the kitchen was backed up. They did apologize and let us know it would take a while for our food to come out, even though there were other empty tables. I am a repeat customer because of the flavourful foods. The veggie pakora and the paneer Tikka Masala literally dances in your mouth, throwing confetti of spice in every crevice of your mouth. I wasn't very impressed with the curry. I had the tikka masala as it just wasn't very flavorful. I asked for extra spicy and it wasn't spicy at all. Nann looked store bought.
