Our friends took us here while we were visiting. It was nice, the inside decor was very bougie eclectic. I liked the veuve fountain, it was cute. I truly felt, however, with the menu/price, atmosphere, etc they had a vision of being an upscale fine dining style steakhouse and unfortunately in my opinion they dropped the ball with some of the service and execution of food. We had a party of 7, had reservations of course, were sat at our table. The hostess passed out the menus. For the females at our table with all the purses and handbags, I was a little surprised they didn't have purse stools they bring to tables, when I asked, the hostess was like "we don't have those." The menu has great options, price point for steaks were a little high for that area and for the ounces in my opinion. They definitely should have the ounces listed next to the steaks. I absolutely love that they offered a kids menu with great options. Our waiter was an overall nice gentleman, unsure if he was new to waiting tables, he had issues multi tasking and we had to wait forever it felt to put in our entrees. I honestly liked the young blonde girl the best, not sure if she was a waitress or just a food runner, but she always seemed to be around when our table needed anything and she even scraped our table of crumbs. Again our waiter nice, he got all our drink orders, put in our appetizers, everything came out quickly, then we didn't see him for awhile, then we ordered more drinks and were ready to order entrees and he politely said give me one minute, and we had to wait longer. Half our table was really hangry and we were ready to order. He comes back we order our entrees and by then the place got busier and so the entrees took longer. So to sum that up, my stars were affected by the service. If you're trying to be a luxury dining place (as advertised on the website) then the service needs to be up to par. You need purse stools, waitstaff should be attentive, take away dirty plates, use the crumb tool between appetizers/entrees/dessert. You expect an experience especially at that price point. But on to the food... overall 7/10. Some things were delicious and others were decent. The crabmeat au gratin was just okay, nothing to write home about, the crostinis served with it were nice. The seared pork belly was really nice, the flavor profile on that was great and everything with taste and texture went well together. The who dat shrimp was good but there was just too much going on, they needed to just keep it simple. All the drinks we had were great, so cuddos to the bartender. We did have two kids with us and one ordered the chicken tenders and the other the filet. Tenders were just normal tenders and fries. The kids filet was a great addition to the menu because my youngest loves filets. However, when on a kids menu I would expect them not to coat the whole thing with pepper. I was unaware that the kids one came with all that pepper, I scraped as much of it off as I could, but my youngest was not happy. I ended up taking her filet and she took my shrimp. The potatoes served with the kids filet were delicious. I ordered the petite filet MR with gulf shrimp, my husband ordered a filet, we also got a side of brussels and the potato au gratin. Our friends got a ribeye, filet, and chicken parmesan, Everyone's steaks were cooked to correct temperatures. I wasn't a fan of all the pepper crusted on and neither was my husband; they could've went a tad lighter on the pepper; but overall the steak was good. Definitely have had better for less. Our friends weren't impressed with the ribeye. The chicken Parmesan got a good review. The sides were good, but again nothing to write home about. Nothing truly wowed me, my favorite thing was the pork belly appetizer and my drinks. Maybe I went on an off night, but I wasn't super impressed. They should have a MICHELIN STAR RATING next to their name. Been to several and hands down it's as good as any, if not better! As soon as we walked in the front doors we were welcomed like we were old friends. The Service was amazing maybe because there was two servers for just the two of us. Plus the manager even came by to see if everything was up to our standards, All the food was amazing, especially the crab cakes. No breading or filler just big chunks of crab seasoned to perfection. I've been here often but never thought to leave a review. We went last night and I got the ribeye while my wife got the filet. Both were cooked perfectly and had an amazing seer on the outside. The pork belly appetizer was amazing as well. Always a nice selection of wine and champagne! One of the owners or managers, Shane, stopped in to make sure everything was perfect. The service was amazing as well and reminded me of Commanders in New Orleans the way they serve the whole table at the exact moment and work as a team to make sure drinks are fresh and warm bread is on the table. I had dinner here a few nights ago. There were 6 of us. It was my first time ever going. I'm somewhat of a chef myself, so I am always very attentive to the food being served to me. We started with the crabcake, seared tuna, and bacon wrapped shrimp. They were all okay, but nothing blew me away. The crabcake was loaded with crab and butter. It was good, but they give you one the size of a drink coaster, and for six people it was literally nothing. It was $22 for this thing. The tuna was loaded up on a GIANT bed of sushi rice. My goodness the rice bed was huge and not needed. For the portion of seared tuna you get, you really don't need a super heavy carb base to go with it. I found myself not even touching the rice. The shrimp was awful. It was a jumbo shrimp covered with crab meat, bacon, some kind of chipotle remoulade and sitting in a pond of sweet chili sauce. WTF was the flavor combination. I took one bite end immediately put it back on the app plate. It was like a million things were going on in my mouth. Not in a good way. For our entrees, my girlfriend and I got the flash fried red snapper and bleu cheese crusted ribeye. We also ordered a side of andouille macaroni. We thought the fish was going to be fried in a light batter as the way the waiter described it to us. It came out looking like a popeyes chicken thigh on a bed of mashed potatoes. It was so heavy and not what we were expecting. The steak was cooked nicely and bleu cheese was good, but there was no salt. It was under seasoned would have been much more bland without the bleu cheese. The macaroni was crazy. We got 2 servings for the table because another couple ordered one. We each passed them around and took a couple bites. Tell me why they tasted completely different!! One was good and one was a total sh*t show again of blending way too many different flavors and it just doesn't work. The one that was good basically had no andouille in it. Also we started our evening at 7 and didn't leave until 10:30. The food took forever to come out. Overall, I would give the experience a three out of five. The waiters were kind and attentive, but the food didn't hit the mark. The wait times were way too long. Also I forgot to mention the drinks were way too sweet. Our bill ended up being $900 for mediocre butter covered food. If you want to dine at a good restaurant with your friends and family, don't go here. You will waste time and money. read more

My husband and I just got married and decided to celebrate at Desi Vega Steakhouse -- and wow, what an incredible experience from start to finish! We arrived early around 5 p.m. and decided to grab drinks at the bar before our 6 p.m. reservation. The bartenders were so friendly and welcoming -- I wish I remembered their names! They even poured us a celebratory shot and toasted with us, which made the evening feel extra special. Once we were seated, our waitress Sadie took such amazing care of us. She was so sweet, attentive, and just genuinely kind. We ordered the "Who Dat Shrimp" as an appetizer (we got the half order with two shrimp), and they were absolutely to die for. I wish there were more! For dinner, I had the ribeye with a twice-baked potato loaded with a creamy, cheesy crawfish mixture. Everything was delicious. The steak came out a little more on the medium side instead of medium well, but before I could even say anything, Sadie noticed right away and took it back to have it fixed. She was determined to make sure it was perfect, and that meant a lot. Lindsey also helped out and was just as sweet and professional. What really touched us the most was how everyone, and I mean everyone,came from the back to check on us and tell us congratulations. Somehow word got around that we had just gotten married, and they all made us feel like celebrities. It was honestly the cutest thing ever and made the night unforgettable. We celebrated my daughter's 21st birthday and everything was great. We started with the who dat shrimp appetizer and it was excellent! We all had filets and they were cooked to perfection. For dessert we ordered the celebration dessert which consisted of cotton candy (the best), ice cream in a cinnamon shell and huge piece of cake. The food is generally very good, a varied menu and served at the proper temperature. Do not sit at the table in front of the kitchen. A random Yelp search for good desserts in Covington led me here, and I will surely be back when I'm in Covington again. I came in to order a side and dessert to go, but the bartender Van was so charming that I decided to take and seat and eat my food at the bar. Based on my preferences he made me a delicious cucumber and strawberry mocktail with all the right mix-ins. The overall atmosphere was lovely and the bar is no less so. Definitely a good choice. Apparently, customers receive a complimentary meatball in marinara with a few slices of garlic bread. I decided that eating in the restaurant was the best idea at that point. Van was charming, as were his coworkers and one of the owners who checked in on me personally a few times. I ordered the crawfish macaroni, which was delicious but not to my preference in the end. He removed it from the bill and I ordered the crawfish-stuffed, twice-baked potato to go. We came here during the Christmas holiday and they were able to easily accommodate our table of 12. The waitstaff and managers were super friendly and consistently checked on out table. I had the scallops for my meal. The were perfectly cooked and seasoned. To my surprise I was presented with a huge chunk of birthday cake and cotton candy to celebrate my birthday. My friends and I just ordered and shared appetizers (steak egg rolls and Brussels sprouts), sides (garlic mashed potatoes and twice baked crawfish potato), one vegetarian entree that was created on the spot, and two desserts (the flaming s'mores and the chocolate cake tropical), since it is a very expensive restaurant. The servers were nice and attentive. There was a cool champagne fountain. The part of the restaurant we were in had a singing pianist and moody lighting. I just had probably one of the worst dining experiences ever from a steakhouse that I have ever had. The Desi Vega's on the Northshore was nothing like their restaurant off the corner of lake avenue and veterans. It's a very small and quaint restaurant with a wonderful ambiance. I made reservations for 8:30pm and was there early and seated late. We didn't receive our food for an hour and twenty five minutes. The manager tried giving "free deserts" to "make us happy " . I live on the Northshore and will never visit this establishment again. If there was a way to take that star away I definitely would. For dissatisfaction and disappointment such as this I would have done better letting a teenager at their first job serve me fast food. Desi Vega's is highly overrated. I don't really see anything here that would give this place high reviews. The parking is a nightmare on a Saturday night. They share the lot with other businesses such as Albasha. And they have signs up saying certain parking is for Albasha only. People end up parking in all kinds of places, any where they can wedge their car into. Part of the problem is that Desi Vega's is charging for valet parking in a lot that small, so that takes up a large number of spots. The service is okay. But for some reason they kind of have an attitude. I don't know if that's how they are told to interact with customers, because everything about the place and the adjoining lounge screams that they want to be high end and luxury, but they miss the mark. The lounge and the restaurant share the same entrance, so you get to see all of these obnoxious people stumbling in and out of the lounge all through dinner. Onto the food, everything is extremely overpriced. It tastes fine, except some dishes are under seasoned. But for the prices they are charging, the expectation is for some awesome food, but what you get is subpar. The only thing that I wanted you keep eating was the pork belly. The oyster rockefeller barely had any oyster on it, I couldn't even detect the taste. The fish was under seasoned and didn't really taste like much of anything. The cheesecake was good, but the topping was too sweet for my liking. Overall, I have no desire to go back. read more

Ordered some cocktails to start the night that took about 20 minutes to come to us. Nothing fancy just a lemon drop martini and an old fashioned. After those came out we decided to get a set ahead and got a bottle of wine to start breathing and got our food ordered. Apps came pretty quickly and so did the food it self. My husband and I both got a filet mignon medium rare, but sadly both came closer to medium/medium well. Ironically enough our asparagus came under and had a full crunch. Coming to a nicer restaurant and spending $350+ I expected better dining experience. Food quality was there but execution was not. Don't think we will be dining here again. Would rather spend the same about at Pats 527 or even Keith Young's. Comments to management if they even read these: focus on making sure food is coming out properly. It's not okay to drop $50+ on a steak and it be cooked improperly. Same thing comes to cocktails. Desi was the perfect date night selection. We are normal customers at the South shore location and very excited to have this location serving. My only complaint is the girls at the front upon entering were not friendly. There were about 4 upfront upon arrival and departure and not one greeted us and as we were leaving not a word either.
