In today's world it is hard to find A+ customers service, but that is exactly what we received from Lawrence and Gerard. They are not only two of the nicest and most thoughtful individuals, but they truly redefine going above and beyond on behalf of the customer. The level in which they helped us solve problems and issues around our remodel were sadly, highly unusual in the best way possible. Especially considering all of the various other companies we worked with in this past year remodeling our home. DWR is VERY lucky to have these two individuals. I can't recommend this team enough to anyone who finds themselves in NYC. read more

The products they have are great but the staff attitude are bad. This girl called Amanda today was so rude, in the beginning she was being on my back and following us around then when we started to chat about sofa, she was annoying and pointing little wrong things I said about measurement and she was laughing - I just ignored her afterwards and got someone else to assist. This guy was very nice but I emailed him to ask about sofa I liked, he never replied me. You guys need staff training, I mean.. these people are useless. I'm seriously thinking of purchasing sectional sofa but makes me feel I should concern about their services. read more

DELIVERY PROBLEMS: This review deserves ZERO stars. BUYER BEWARE regarding staff resolution of problems and use of FedEx as shipper. Design Within Reach gladly takes your money, but when a delivery problem arises, the sales rep states he is unable to help. Everyone washes their hands of responsibility. I received 1 day notification of an expected delivery and tried to hold the delivery at Fedex. The only solution DWR offered was to hold expensive merchandise at a Walgreens or have neighbor take delivery (not possible in our case). DWR sales rep blamed FedEx, but I blame DWR because they chose to use FedEx and that is a reflection of DWR's business model. read more

I wish I could have given them 0 stars. I bought 4 ridiculously expensive chairs by Verpan from their online store in hope they would last a while. 5 years later the fabric on chairs have formed bubbles and aluminum part at the bottom of each chair has presented serious discoloration, so I have reached out to their support service asking if they could recommend how to fix it. Their reply was "we no longer sell these chairs. And btw they were covered under warranty for 1 year only". Please think twice before ordering ANY item from this place. Their customer service is non existent at best. Never again! read more

Design Within Reach - Furniture Stores Near Me - New York, New York

Ultimately the greatest, iconic and classic designs of the mid 20th century onward can mostly, if not exclusively, be found at DWR. It's just a pleasure to walk around and try all these wonders of ergonomics, comfort and style. The staff is quite helpful knowledgeable and attentive. That said I'm not sure what they mean by "within reach", but they certainly don't mean within reach of any middle class bidget. For example the iconic eames "Lounge Chair Wood" originally retailed for the equivalent of a hundred or so dollars, around 2008 they still retailed for 400-600$ and today 1000-1600$. This design benefited from WWII technology, airforce grants (For molded wood splints) and the input of charles and ray eames. It was a design for middle class america, today it seems like a design for the privileged few and that's what rubs me the wrong way about Herman Miller/ Design within reach. read more

I expected better when I ordered from Design Within Reach (DWR). I placed on online order for a bookcase. I needed it to be delivered by a certain date, so I picked out a bookcase that had an estimated delivery date of 7-10 days. I just checked the status moments ago, and it is now indicating a delivery date of 4 weeks! The delivery date just keeps moving further out into the future every time I check. Moreover, DWR does not provide email updates as to order status; instead the onus is on the customer to input information (order number, email address and billing zip code) to try to find out something about order status. I would not have ordered from DWR had I known the truth about its inability to fulfill my order by the date indicated. I would have ordered from a competitor. I believe that DWR's sales practices have been misleading and deceptive in this regard. read more

This is the worst shopping experience that I have in recent years. My sofa is still missing since I received an email says item shipped 23 days ago, now I can do nothing but wait, neither the shipping company nor the manufacturer knows where it is and what happened. Ridiculous. read more

I walked into this beautiful showroom a few weeks ago. I wanted to casually look around for my dining room renovation. My designer suggested it to me for a more modern aesthetic. I really don't know much about modern design and it seemed a little overwhelming at first. I didn't really really want help but was approached by a very kind woman who offered me water and immediately made me feel welcome. It made the beautiful design seem less intimidating. I told her I just wanted to get some ideas and she immediately offered to make my ideas come alive in a floor plan! I explained that I had a designer, but she said no problem, that it would help the process of elimination and it certainly did! Anyway, I got some great ideas and print-outs to show my designer. We went back into the showroom a few days later and I showed him the table I liked best, which I am now considering. He liked it too. The woman who first helped me wasn't working when I went back but another lady (also with a friendly approach) said she would be happy to help out on behalf of the original woman. I am new to this but really feel like I got the royal treatment. And it was a very inviting environment. Hope to finalize soon! read more

New to the hood and need furniture. The name is deceiving but the sales person explained it. At first glance the prices were frightening but then I started to see there are different price points. When a store lets you down, there isn't much to say, is there? We bought a theater sofa from DWR in 2011 and by last year it was already in terrible shape. I repeatedly asked if the leather was fragile and delicate or if it would hold up to every day use. I was told to upgrade to a higher level, which I did and, low and behold, the piping wore through fast. Moreover the cushions have lost their shape and the whole thing looks terrible. I've spent well over $5,000 for a couch that is poorly made. What was DWR's reaction? It's wear, it's not their fault. The Herman Miller stuff I bought from DWR is holding up better, as I would expect, but still, DWR is a disappointment. Most of us in the design professions wish it would go under so that a better replacement could appear. read more

After spending a small fortune in this store over the past 8 years we purchased two matching lamps for the bedroom. Two months after the purchase one of the light fails to turn on. The culprit you ask?! A LED light that is supposed to last for eight+ years fails. Mind you, this is no ordinary light (bulb) and it's difficult to even obtain access to the area on the light to view the actual LED bulb. The sales associate(s) @ DWR were clueless and gave us the complete run around. They kept pointing to a lighting store in midtown to confirm it actually was the bulb and not something else. Of course after going to the store a few times we learned it was the bulb. The store said they do not carry the bulb and indicated the DWR people direct them to their store all the time, but they assured us they do not have this LED bulb. The DWR people insisted the store will sell us and bulb and also directed us to a BULB website with a link to the site and a description of the bulb. Of course, the website doesn't have it either even after a pleasant online chat with one of their personnel, we came up empty. One would think the DWR people would have someone to offer a solution and help us to resolve the matter, but now months have gone by and we still do not have a working light or a solution. This is a $400++ dollar floor lamp so we were expecting a little better service. My suggestion is the next time you consider DWR consider carefully or don't consider them @ all! read more

Good luck finding service in this store. We there are 6:30 last night and the 2 sales people were too busy on their computers to even look up and say hello. I was there to buy some lamps and furniture. In this economy, I am not begging someone to take my money. If they give me service and sell to me, I will buy. We should all patronize businesses who want to sell to their customers. The days are over of clerks sitting at their desks waiting for customers to walk up and take their $$$. I purchased the Matera storage bed, Line credenza and Milo recliner from this DWR location. While deciding on our purchases, my husband and I visited multiple locations to view all of the items and I found that customer service was consistently good at each store. We made our purchases with Michael at the Flatiron location, and he was really helpful and so great to work with. He assisted us in arranging for purchases to be delivered at a much later date and ensured we got all the fall sale prices. While the price point is still relatively high, we find the quality is worth the price. Very happy with our purchases and the sales staff. read more

We had some issues with chairs being delivered with broken gliders, extra chairs and a lot of mess.. just too much to explain.. however, our sales person, Jessica... she went above and beyond with her customer service and followed through with prompt responses. She even hand delivered some parts and put them on herself. Just can't expect better service than this. read more

Product looks wonderful and the couches I sat on were really comfortable. Service? The employees must have been able to tell we couldn't afford said product because we didn't get any. I guess I should be grateful they didn't guilt trip us until we left the store with our tails between our legs. I guess the prices are fair? I'm assuming the product will last a long time. Good customer service, gorgeous furniture, but high prices

Lovely store and friendly staff that picked the perfect desk chair for me, in terms of comfort, but decorators beware. Oddly ignorant of Herman Miller quirky ordering and return process, and even more oddly that the different fabrics (and plastic frame border) used for the back and seat of the chairs are made in such visually obviously different hues of the same- named color, and not pleasingly so. Stick with the standard color palate and save the upcharge. Or go to a store that has more samples so you can make a more informed decision. read more

There were ZERO other customers in the store, and none of the salespeople even looked up from their computers when I walked in. Absolutely amazing designs and layout of such a small space! My design/salesperson, Chris, was a wealth of knowledge and explained materials, designers and what makes the company "within reach". I didn't realize these items were not available to the general public previously, so now the concept of the company makes complete sense to me, not to mention the quality! Even if I can't afford everything, I now understand the price points better. Chris even offered me a floorplan and 3D rendering (for no charge) to help me get started as we toured around the showroom. He was very down to earth and sincere in his offer to help. The showroom is fancy and a little intimidating at first but his excitement, calm demeanor and non-pushy attitude created excitement for me! And he even called other staff over to get second opinions for me to think about--they all work amazingly well together. They were all fantastic and made an overwhelming experience of furnishing my apartment start off in such an amazing way. Apparently many of them have worked together for multiple years and it shows! Ask for Chris P. when visiting (or if he's not there, they all seem fantastic). Thumbs up! read more
