Great designs and $$$, but too bad they won't take any responsibility for defective furniture. My husband and I saved $$$ to purchase a few pieces for our new apartment, and we love them. However, LESS THAN A YEAR LATER, the steel bench is rusting. I contacted customer service and sent photos to which they responded, "It must be moisture, that's why it's rusting." My guests, who are not frequent, put their shoes in the cubbyhole. They certainly do NOT put soaking WET shoes for days in the SAME CUBBYHOLE to make it rust this way. Otherwise, this is where I store my cookbooks. They offered me an outsourced furniture service to 'fix' the issue AT MY COST. The fact that they won't listen to me, or admit this is a faulty piece of furniture, and help me replace it is mind-boggling. For over $700 and Less than a YEAR in my home, NOT EXPOSED CONSTANTLY to WET SHOES makes ZERO sense why this is happening. And instead of being of assistance to keep me as a customer who has spent over $3.5k at this store, it is just sad and VERY BAD service. Our Berin Comfort Sleeper Queen size was delivered on May 8, 2025. After searching for a mattress topper my husband and I finally got to use the Comfort Sleeper as a sofa. We both sat down on the front edge of the sofa and were unpleasantly surprised to hear a noise like velcro hooking and unhooking On June 2, I called Room & Board customer service and told them about the problem. They requested photos of the seat cushions which we promptly sent them along with a video. On July 9th, I was told that we would receive 2 new complete seat cushions to replace the defective cushions. It would take 6-8 weeks. On August 6th, we received 2 new casings (the exterior fabric of the seat cushions) but no foam cores. I contacted Room & Board and requested to speak to a higher level employee. This person made arrangements for new cores to be delivered on August 15th by the delivery team who could assemble the entire seat cushions for us. On August 15th the team arrived and didn't know what they were supposed to do. We explained that they were supposed to assemble the seat cushions but they told us that they had not been given the foam cores. We gave them the new seat casings to return to Minnesota so that the new cores could be fully assembled there. We received a UPS tracking number on September 5 and finally received the newly assembled seat cushions. It was difficult for us to figure out what was wrong with our seat cushions as the diagram of a Berin Day and Night Sleeper cushion on Room and Board's website did not illustrate that velcro is inside the seat cushions. After receiving our new seat cushions we took apart one of the old seat cushions. We discovered that a piece of velcro is glued to the foam core. Another piece of velcro was sewn to the inside of the casing. That was surprising as we didn't find any mention of velcro as a part of the seat cushions at all. So we were completely confused as to what was making the noises. It took multiple contacts by us and 3 months for this to be figured out and for us to receive new seat cushions that don't make velcro hooking and unhooking noises. We do like our Berin Day and Night Sleeper Sofa now that it doesn't make the velcro noises. The low score is due to the time and hassle involved in replacing the seat cushions. read more

Purchased several couches and chairs from them. Always had success until i purchased the Morrison in summer ivory. It came with dents in the back.. had someone come fix it.. Next it starts pilling and .. and looks like i had it for years. Again had someone come clean and shave the pills. It is also NOT easy to clean. Yes i have a dog but the summer ivory was listed as the perfect dog friendly fabric. The couch and two chairs looked horrible. Customer service was not willing to do anything so i ended up getting rid of the entire collection... 7K down the drain. Last time i will be purchasing from them. Needless to say, i went to Interior Define and am extremely happy with my purchase. Also important to note, i reached out the Customer service on linked in and received no acknowledgment whatsoever. We are now being told that some pieces might be scheduled for delivery in late January, and certain pieces won't be BUILT until sometime in February. I have received very vague responses from the salesperson when I have contacted her by email. To even have a conversation with her, I have to make an appointment. This is by far the best furniture buying experience we've ever had with purchase, delivery, quality, and even after issues. We love how from their larger pieces to their smaller accessories are all displayed in their Chelsea store. High quality, well made, and beautifully designed. if you love a modern clean aesthetic then this is your place. Negative: this place is not cheap or even what I'd call inexpensive furniture. Not the most expensive in the city but you will spend some money here. But it also depends on what your place costs, I'll never understand spending so much on a home/apt and then putting in cheap low quality furnishings? Unless you have small destructive kids/pets. I'm thrilled every time I walk into our living room or bedroom. I bought a couch from them in 2014. Mechanism was so bad it tore up the inside mattress. They gave me a new couch, ages very quickly and poorly and is uncomfortable to sit on. Having long term memory loss I decided to order a bunk bed for my daughters and a chair. Took 2 months for the bunk bed to be delivered. The people who installed it messed up the order of installation. Had to take it apart and redo making many many more drill halls in the poor wooden frame. I demanded they replace the expensive and now defective bed. A month later I got the new bed. Guy who installed it forgot to screw in a few screws and I had to chase him back to finish the job(he doesn't know the word Sorry. Or even Oops) The chair arrived with 3 matching legs and a shorter one. I cannot recommend this place. Their items are way over priced for the quality. They have some nice options but again, they age way too fast and look like old furniture pretty quickly. Most stores that mess up so badly and on so many levels at least give you a little more than "I'm sorry you're disappointed". read more

My SO and I stopped in as we're looking for a new couch and have heard great things about room and board. It's a huge (and somewhat overwhelming) space, so certainly you should give yourself ample time to browse (it's three stories and takes up maybe 1/4-1/3 a block). There are a ton of options but unfortunately all of the couches were a bit deep for someone with short legs (for some, I had to put three pillows behind my back in order for my feet to touch the ground--I'm about 5'1" for reference). They have lots of couches that allow you to choose the fabric and the configuration which is wonderful, same goes for chairs (fabric and color) and dressers and tables (color/finish). I was a bit overwhelmed with options but I imagine we'll come again to look at tables and chairs (though again, many are slightly too tall for me). The desks are great as some can be raised or lowered (even to standing height) and several chairs (Japanese brands, which makes sense) can be lowered for a 5' tall persons feet can touch the ground! We didn't ask for help while there but it seems like there's plenty of help to be had should you want it. We'll be returning at some point, though perhaps with only certain items in mind this time. read more

this review is not for the showroom itself (we had a great experience there) but for the delivery service. My boyfriend and I purchased the Jasper sofa at this location. We made sure to confirm the sofa measurements several times before making our purchase. We live on the top floor of a brownstone so getting furniture up and down two flights of narrow, winding stairs is very tricky, but according to the sofa measurements and also that my boyfriend has moved sofas (including our old one) of the same size up and down these stairs several times before over the years, we didn't think it would be a problem to fit if they heeded his advice. We had a scheduled delivery for this morning. The warehouse called us yesterday afternoon to let us know that a small hole was found on the bottom of the sofa during inspection. They let us know that while they planned to deliver us a new sofa for later next week, they would still deliver the defective sofa as scheduled but would swap it out with the new sofa during next week's delivery. We had already removed our old sofa at this point and definitely did not want to go a whole week without one, so with less than 24 hours notice, we reluctantly agreed to this new plan. The delivery driver did call us during the scheduled delivery window and we prepared for their arrival. Once they showed up, my boyfriend went outside to attempt to have a chat with them to brief them on the staircase issue before they started to carry the sofa upstairs to our apartment. But the delivery men declined to talk to my boyfriend and just went ahead with carrying the sofa upstairs until they approached the first landing where the staircase starts to curve. They then abruptly declared that they would not be able to continue with delivery because the sofa doesn't fit and then suggested that we should purchase another sofa. My boyfriend tried to explain again how to angle the sofa in order for it fit onto the second landing but they continued to refuse to take any steps beyond just standing with the sofa at the top of the stairs and responding that it doesn't fit. They even facetimed someone from the warehouse and showed them the sofa from where they stood and the person on the phone confirmed that the sofa wouldn't fit, even without seeing anything else in the vicinity. I understand that these men deliver a ton of couches every day and if they did attempt to listen to us or at least try to make it fit, I would've accepted it and gotten another sofa. But once they decided it didn't fit, they became super argumentative and were done with listening to anything we had to say. At that point, I was not going to go through the hassle for a sofa that was just going to be collected and sent back a week later, so we told them to take the sofa back. As a result of Room and Board's poor delivery service, we are now without a sofa for the next week. We also had to hire the couch doctor at $450+ in addition to the $90 delivery fee we paid to finish next week's delivery for the sofa that R&B's delivery team put in the lowest imaginable effort to accomplish. For the price that R&B charges for their sofas, you should expect better quality of delivery service. Personally, we will be shopping elsewhere for our furniture in the future. read more

If I could give Room & Board 6 stars I would. They have amazing customer service. Ordering was super easy. When my dining table arrived, the surface had some natural marring to it, but I didn't like the way it looked. They offered to make a new top for me without me even pushing. I had ordered online and the actual color didn't come out as I had hoped, but it's what I chose so that was on me. They allowed me to switch the top to a different finish since they were remaking it. When the second one came in, I still didn't love it. They let me switch again. Got my finished table on Saturday and it's GORGEOUS! I couldn't ask for better customer service. Every single person, even the delivery people, were super nice and wanted to make sure I was happy with my purchase. I will continue to recommend and shop Room & Board!! I bought a full size bed frame and mattress. The pair was quite expensive. The bed frame is beautiful and the mattress incredibly comfortable. The delivery and setup went smoothly. However, something was odd about the mattress. It seemed short when placed on the frame. There were several inches between the head/footboard and the mattress. When I reported this to several salespeople they blew me off. They said it was supposed to be that way to allow room for a comforter. I was very naive and believed them. But then I went out and bought sheets at Bed Bath and Beyond. The sheets were 100% cotton. I washed them first, thinking they would shrink, but then when I put the sheet on the mattress it was incredibly loose and baggy. I needed to add clips at all four corners to tie up the slack. This is not an easy task then the bed is in a corner and the mattress is heavy as hell to lift. I bought another full sized sheet. Same problem. Asked the BB&B bedding folks about it and they said they had never heard of such a thing. Posted a criticism on the Room & Board review page. Tried to post photos showing what it looked like, but the photos just would not post. Not sure if I am crazy or if mattresses are meant to be short. But in either case, it has never ceased to bug me and I would never buy another mattress here. read more

Purchased the Jasper couch for our great room. Quality and design are what prompted purchase, but very expensive for what you get. There was a clear scratch on the leather on the top of the couch which was noted by the delivery person. It could not be rubbed out. He took a photo and sent it directly by email in to R&B and he assured me the customer service was top notch and that they would contact me to discuss options and to coordinate repair. I waited for 2 weeks without any contact. I then emailed customer service multiple times with NO RESPONSE. I even stated that even if they planned to do nothing about the scratch that they should have the courtesy to let me know. I asked at a minimus whether they could send me some cover-up matching the color of the leather to at least hide/mask the scratch. NO response. I just stopped emailing because they obviously didn't care. Product is nice, although pricey. Customer Service is non-existent. read more

This is a review for Dan Fernandez. He was so AMAZING, I legit cannot believe how helpful he has been so far. Dan sat down with us to help us in designing the room, down to picking the actual pieces. He is so detail oriented and particular, which is what I love (and need) when it comes to design. He saved us from making soooo many design mistakes, and offered up all the tips and design tricks to make the room look bigger, flow better etc etc. He spent so much time with us so far and we haven't had to pay one dime out of pocket yet. I purchased a sofa ,coffee table, 2 leather chairs, bedroom furniture and dinning room chairs from Room and Board. Recently I noticed my dinning room chairs felt different. Mind you, my dinning room is used only on occasion so these chairs have not seen a lot of use. So I turned the chairs over a 3 of them the cushion support has broken in multiple places. Not strange due to the fact that the support is constructed of particle board; something that is not visible since it was covered with a dark black fabric. I then called the main number and spoke with a representative that said they cannot help me. Their only support was to give me the name of a local repair shop located 15 miles away.‍ These chairs were made in Italy but it appears that R & B put on cushions made in the US by Shenandoah Furniture. I ordered more WOODWIND bookcases to match the (5) 60" and previous (2) 48" cases in hand. The lead time for the custom width sizes is frustrating but worth the wait. All prior R&B orders had been seamless which helped me justify the expense and set a level of expectation for service. This order didn't have the same updates. I called to schedule delivery a day after the date my order receipt said I would be contacted and I was told the order was delayed. Nobody called, nobody emailed. Frustrated, I asked "why" and was told that they don't typically notify the customer "in these circumstances"...i.e. when there is a delay. Given that custom orders have a 30% restocking penalty and I was charged the day in January that I ordered it I explained that wasn't very customer-centric. My option was to wait, with no recourse. Days later Monique called looking to schedule a delivery after the 6-10 day delivery window from the initial date. With guests scheduled to come into town, I needed the furniture in and set up on schedule. I pressed, and she hustled and managed to make up the lost time for the production delay. Many factors and individuals aligned but ultimately, thanks to Monique, Room and Board came through. BONUS- there is a much-needed design update and these bookcases now have levelers. read more

So disappointed to find out after our purchase arrived that the sales person did not sell us the couch on the floor as requested . instead they sold us the upgraded version with a different filling Which was more money . worst of all the filling was all feathers and completely came out after the first year . Good quality furniture and good service. When my daughter was expecting, she did a considerable amount of research into cribs before selecting one from Room & Board to add to her registry. In addition to meeting all safety standards, it is also made of solid wood and has a non-toxic paint finish. My wife and I ordered the crib as a gift for my daughter and also paid extra for delivery and assembly. The delivery people were prompt and efficient. They had the crib assembled in minutes. When you are a practical human being and marry an Italian who thinks "form over function" is a motto rather than joke, furniture shopping is hard. You will spend many hours looking at furniture that you thought was considered nice and be quickly told you have poor taste in everything except husbands. Then you discover Room & Board and your marriage will be saved. Room & Board is really great in so many ways. Let's count them. 1. Style. Simple yet elegant. They have a modern, clean look that's sure to stay relevant for a long time. Of course, they have enough variety to fit the taste of a wide range of people so if you want to veer towards funkier or more classic, you can probably still find something you'll love. 2. Service. These guys are so nice. The employees are not paid on commission so there's no hard sell and you won't feel rushed. They also pay their employees pretty well so people are generally happy and helpful. We sat with Rick for 2 hours where he helped us input our floorplan into their software so we could see what furniture would look like inside our space. He gave suggestions on what might work or not. Everyone is very knowledgable about the products and policies. Customer service is reachable online, on the phone, and via email and they will work with you very quickly and efficiently. Great work, everyone! 3. Guarantee. There's no warranty on their furniture, just the promise that they will do what they can to make you satisfied with your purchase. So on one hand, you could take that as a scary proposition...but on the other hand, it's not that after 5 years should something go wrong, you're on your own. 4. Quality. I love that the wood is real wood and not some crazy high-tech pressed particle board or whatever. Made in America* (mostly). 5. Comfort. Yes, the furniture is comfortable but I was thinking about the showroom. Again, no pushy sales so you feel comfortable to really walk around and get a feel for how this might feel in your home. You might want to spend many hours here sitting/laying down/leaning how might at home. When you do, they have really clean bathrooms. And a really great coffee/tea station. I think I'll wrap it up here. There are a few more but these are probably the most important. In the end, we spent the equivalent of about a year's rent in a red state on a living room and dining room set but it's going to be beautiful, comfortable, and I get to stay married to my Italian and never buy furniture ever again. It was time to get a couch that fit our apartment and would accommodate the 2 adults and 2 cats that live in it. When it was time to go couch shopping, we found that our taste fell outside our price range. Fancy dutch furniture and high concept aesthetics are all well and good if you have a small fortune, but the price tags were astronomical for two people already paying a lot of money to live in Brooklyn and who wanted both style and comfort. Room & Board was the only furniture store we visited that was both within our budget and within our taste preference. We could see practically everything in the showroom ending up in our apartment. We were able to wander the whole showroom without being hassled by someone looking to make a commission, but when we had settled on the York 98" sofa with reversible chaise, we were able to get personalized attention. The service was amazing, from Melissa who walked us through the sale, to the men who delivered a big ass couch through several narrow hallways in a Brooklyn high rise without flinching. All humans and cats in the apartment can now comfortably stretch out on a comfy couch that fits all of our needs. The delivery guys are not trained well or maybe paid bad. I asked if he could move existing sofa upstairs. He measured and said it would not fit. Acted dumb when I asked him to help me move small chairs. Would not help arrange at all. Had to be told to put on the legs of the sectional I bought and to take the packaging off. Did not put the sectional together. Eventually asked me to make an "offer" that he would discuss with his partner (standing behind him) to see if they could move stuff out of the way. Fishing for money and bad service over all. I was ready to tip handsomely, but was treated in a bad way. Worst part, $5k sectional is all over the place, and I was so excited :( read more

Im not sure how this store remains in business. The quality is not better than create and barrel or west elm and they're shipping charges are insane, unless you're buying a lot of items. I just priced out a pedestal for a client, that was only $200 and they wanted $100 for delivery. And it was going to take almost 2 weeks. I had a previous experience with a large natural steal console that the client loved. The client had placed some candle sticks with rubber stoppers on the bottom of them. The rubber stopped got stuck to the varnish RB had sprayed on and was apparently had not cured yet, and removed the finish in those spots. All we got from customer service was a lot of emails describing how to repair and repaint the top. A lot of, so sorry, and we,re here to help, but no real help. Just a lot of jibber jabber. As a designer, I avoid using them unless a client has really pushed. But going forward, I refuse. read more
