It's a small space but if you need something specific they likely have it. I ran out of Florida water so I came in to grab a fresh bottle plus a tiny palm crystal and smudge stick. The owner is always sweet and when checking out he paused, looked up at me and asked, "do you like rose?" I'm obsessed with rose! Scentelate makes their own rose incense sticks so he packed me 2 to try. I always recommend Scentelate, this place is 5 stars for a reason.

Packed with everything from Incense smudges, scents and soaps; to unisex jewelry, rocks & crystals (raw and cut) tarot, greeting and playing cards. The owner, who is so friendly and always with a smile, is always there to answer questions and help out with recommendations. You can usually hear him talking with a soothing cadence, that is relaxing to listen to while browsing. The place is usually busy, with people of all walks of life, but not overly packed. A lot of other stores of this nature, seem to pop up overnight with the intent to make fast money. ScentElate is all about helping people achieve some enrichment to their lives.

The clays are a great way to see if a scent is worth your skin real estate with information on the brand, notes, perfumer, and price on the back. Despite other complaints against touching bottles, I do understand you don't want to risk dropping a small brand's tester. Plus, as someone who has worked in retail, it would be a full time job to keep them straightened (OCD much) It's a must visit every time I'm in NYC to see what brands are new and discover something new.

I went in aware that you can touch (or spray) the bottles, but I wasn't expecting the only interaction from staff to be to ask everyone who came in if they had been to the store before (a chance for them to tell you the rules, of course). No questions about what you're looking for, no offer of help while you browse, just general monitoring to make sure no one is touching what they should not. I asked perfumes were exclusive to Stele and was told "not sure but most everything"...and saw a ton of lines that are not exclusive. The stones aren't a very good vehicle to capture scents (probably why I've never seen them at any other perfume store) and the layout is by house without any general descriptions or information on the brand. The perfume details and pricing are on the back of the stones. Overall not somewhere to go unless you know exactly what you want.

Tried a candle-making class here today and had such a great experience. The class is $52 per…read moreperson, and they offer a 30% discount on refills, which comes out to around $38. You get to fully customize and hand-pour your own coconut and soy wax candle with an estimated 60-hour burn time. The process was really fun and easy to follow. You choose your vessel color first, then pick up to two scents to blend together, which they recommend for a more layered fragrance. They had around 27 scents available, including seasonal options, plus 12 vessel colors to choose from. They said that they do seasonal colors and scents. I picked the holographic vessel, which seemed very popular, and blended moss with smoky sandalwood for a candle I named "Twilight Garden." Everything is self-guided, but the setup is extremely organized. Each table has laminated instruction cards walking you through every step: choosing your vessel, selecting and mixing scents, measuring and pouring the wax, adding glitter and dried flowers, and finally naming and labeling your candle. Some people just drew on the naming labels and I thought that was such a cute idea, I may try that next time. The staff is there whenever you need help, and Amy was especially kind and helpful throughout the process. The space itself is very clean, spacious, and relaxing. They also have a restroom on site. After pouring your candle, you can leave and come back anytime before closing (7pm) to pick it up once it sets. They even trim and bag it for you, which was such a nice touch. This is such a fun solo activity, date idea, or group outing, and I love that you leave with something genuinely customized that also makes a great gift. Adding photos of the scent wall, vessel selection, and my finished candle because the whole experience was honestly so aesthetically pleasing too.

We were celebrating Mother's Day early this year, as per usual, because the idea of going out on actual Mother's Day is so unappealing. We had a 3pm booking and they were ready for us when we got there. It's guided and also self-guided at the same time. There is smeone there to help explain the process and monitor your process, but a lot of it following the steps at the table. It's fairly easy and not hard to follow. We managed just fine, because my sister had completely forgotten how it works. I ended up with a beautiful lychee white tea candle that smells absolutely amazing. I love that you can really customize it. The whole process took about an hour, less if you are efficient and also don't want to wait for your candle to dry. We did, and just chatted at the table a bit. Overall, it was a lot of fun and I would definitely recommend it as a group activity or even a date activity.
