I brought an old Fairfield leather office chair that I paid $25 at a second hand store. I knew the brand very well, so I knew its worth (try $1,500-$3,500 easily). I saw past the ripped seat, and I thought that it would be less expensive to have the seat re-leathered than to purchase a new chair in the same brand which is true in theory; however, the price of the leather panels were far beyond what I wanted to pay for a chair that I only wanted to place into my work office space, so I didn't want to invest a lot of money. Alex helped me search through fabric swatches and I found what I thought was unique and went with my theme of traditional elegance with a touch of interesting movements in that space. Viola! Mag's had what I was looking for, and Alex gave me price that was fair. He told me I could pay when I returned and I left with his word that he would call me in a couple of weeks. True to his word, Alex called me and I dropped in to pick up my baby. I was so pleasantly surprised and pleased when I saw the beautiful new seat cushion. Alex is simply a wonderful artist with a eye for perfection because he added a little more padding to provide the right depth the seat needed to the final sewing. I almost did not recognize the cushion if it weren't for the fabric. Alex and his genius hands made this seat cushion sparkle. So, I said OK. I bought more fabric at another place to ensure the next purchase of fabric wouldn't be lost. When I took that in, they told me they had no record of my buying fabric or having a credit. Then, I showed them their paperwork and the receipt from American Express which I had taken a photo of on my phone. They told me that they did not believe it because it was not the yellow piece of paper they had given me originally but just a picture of it. I was OK with their losing my fabric. I am not OK with them not honoring the financial agreement. I asked to be reimbursed. They refused to do even this. So, I'm taking this up with American Express. One other thing is I asked them about their recordkeeping. I was told they didn't really keep records. I explained they needed to in order to file taxes and then to keep the records in case of an audit. I was told they didn't bother with any of that. It all seemed very unorganized and suspicious to me as well as my adult son who was with me.

Kile gave me the best price and it included the pickup fee whereas every other upholstered I tried wanted from $100 - $150 more for pickup. Had I have been able to use the fabric that he provided it would have included the fabric also. But considering that my fabric was custom made and I needed it repaired within two weeks I couldn't afford any mistakes with it. He made no mistakes, the repair was flawless. He picked it up on a Friday and returned it the next Friday well in advance of me catching my flight. I couldn't tell which parts had been repaired and which was the original. We decided to recover a chair and a half since we couldn't find a new one in a fabric that we…read moreliked. We have cats and needed a firm tightly woven fabric that wouldn't encourage scratching. Joy Upholstery did a fabulous job in a short time frame since we are listing our house and needed it back for photos. They improved the original design by making the back cushion separate rather than attached to the frame, added a lining to that cushion and put heavier fabric under the chair that our cats wouldn't scratch up. We couldn't find a new chair this wonderful for anywhere close to the cost. Before and after photos below.
