If you are in the city of #Atlanta, please be weary when ordering from Dessence Cafe D'essence Cafe 3056 Bayard St, East Point, GA 30344 I ordered breakfast via UberEats and received moldy bread and I ordered smothered chicken wings that arrived non-smothered. (see pictures below) I called and was told that the only thing they could do for me is replace the moldy bread if I DROVE over to them and that they never sold smothered chicken wings. If i wanted to drive to pick up food, I would't have used UberEats. They did not offer an apology or offer to come visit at a later time with a food credit. read more

Soooo...I stumbled across this place via Instagram. The chef here would show up in my suggested posts and the pictures of the food would always make me hungry and look so good that I decided to try it. The only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because I wanted the seafood rice and they were out that day. The customer service was very, very good. The cashier apologized for not having the seafood rice and made suggestions of other items I could try. This place sells breakfast all day which is a plus. I had a burger with all the fixings and I wasn't disappointed. It was cooked and seasoned, the toppings were fresh and the chef made sure his presentation was on point even though my order was to go. I'm going to try to get my seafood rice next time. read more

Ordered breakfast from this little spot this morning. It was actually really good. I waffled back and forth between 3-4 stars, but ultimately went with 3. When you're in the restaurant business, your one and only goal is to please your customers. That being said, they definitely need to pay attention to their to-go orders. I clearly asked for particular condiments to go with my order; ie: syrup for the pancakes! Maybe a pack of ketchup woulda been nice, or a pad of butter or jelly for our toast... you know what would have been even better though? SOME FLATWARE TO EAT OUR FOOD WITH!!! Seriously though, we got all of our food with absolutely no condiments, and no flatware to eat with... :-/ Those "not so minor" issues aside, the food was good. I just wish family owned businesses took a few more minutes to consider the little things in regard to customer service. read more

My wife and I have tried the catfish, tilapia, seasoned fries, seafood rice, spinach, fried chicken. Everything was so delicious. My wife wanted some greens so Cami, recommended the spinach. My wife had some resistance but Cami, who doesn't like spinach,raw or cooked convinced her that she wont regret it. Well my wife absolutely loved the spinach and so did I. We got a chance to try the Italian Cream Cake and it was so delicious. I don't like cake however, this cake was so moist. Melted right in your mouth. We also got a chance to try the Shi Pie. Let me just say, I don't like sweet potatoes at all. It is a new creation of the owner. Their was nothing left after demolishing there pie. Their was no sign off a pie ever being on a plate.. Oh talk about a gem. I believe customer service can bring you back even if the food is not that good (food was great but will focus on customer service right now). You ever met someone who had a passion to service, well this young lady who was our waitress is that person. You walk in and she greets you with a hello and welcome like you are family. She became a "food therapist" allowing us to work through our indecisive taste buds until we felt comfortable with our decision with her guidance. She provided humor and great conversation to again make us feel like we were home. The food was great and seasoned nicely. The chef came out and wanted to make sure we were satisfied with her cooking. So not only do we have a great waitress with great skills but a chef who cares about her craft to take time away to check on us. I challenge everyone to stop in and get a plate of food. I've been coming here 4 or 5 years and one thing I can say, they have the best breakfast in East Point. The quality and presentation has improved greatly over the years. Today I ordered sausage omelet and French toast. Each morsel melted in my mouth. An explosion of flavors. I recommend trying this place when you want a good home-cooked breakfast. now I put 5 stars because the food is always amazing & fresh but I'd recommend the updating of your Uber eats menu. I've ordered from you all 4 times. 3 out of 4 times I've received 2 pieces of fish with my order. Mind you, I've ordered it the same way all three times but this particular time I just did the order without eggs or grits seeing as though you weirdly have to add cheese grits and spuds but it automatically came with eggs and grits. I don't like eggs and didn't need the extra grits so I did it without today and only received one piece of fish. I called to find out and explained to her how I've always ordered the same way and gotten two pieces of fish with every order and then told me I just got lucky. I'm so happy I tried this place ! The potato is sooo good. And so big ! Its right next to this hole in the wall corner store and it is a little ghetto but who cares. The food is worth going there ! My family and I decided to try this spot while visiting from New York. We found them on Postmates, and they had a 4 star rating I believe. Let's start with the order; After placing my order I called the restaurant directly to ask they put extra hot sauce and condiments in our order the women who answered literally repeated back to me what I requested. It came with nothing. Not the extra hot sauce I asked for, not jelly/jam for our toast, and no ketchup for our potatoes. Literally only the salt and pepper that came in the silverware packet. My daughter ordered a cheese omelette. It was an omelette with one slice of cheese on top. Period. I ordered the catfish with grits and eggs. The grits and eggs were bland (luckily we had all that salt and pepper). The catfish was fried perfectly, but it was super salty. It was like they finished it with salt after they fried it. It made it difficult to enjoy. My husband had the salmon patties grits and eggs, his review was literally the same as mine. We shared an order of the potatoes and they were just as blah as the rest of the meal. To be fair I'm sure the hot sauce would have cut through the saltiness and all the potatoes needed were ketchup. The food is great, it's extremely delicious. However, Terrence is extremely rude. I came in one day, he didn't even acknowledge me. I had to speak to him in order for him to greet me and as a paying customer I should be greeted as soon as I walk in. He will shut down the restaurant in the middle of the day & not let customers know that he won't be in and t customer service was horrible. It makes me not want to return. I had some extra time to burn off before going to an appointment, thought I could take my laptop out and get some work done maybe. The place was FREEZING! It matched the 30 degree weather outside, they had the fans on and all. I immediately knew I would just get my food and go. I got a basic sausage, egg, grit, and toast breakfast. And when I say basic... I mean basic!!! My scrambled eggs were overcooked ( who can't cook eggs? ) and everything was extremelyyyyy bland. I had to drown it in salt and pepper. I'll come across the chefs Instagram page every once and a while and I didn't see any of the dishes that I actually wanted on the menu inside of the restaurant. The prices are super affordable especially compared to a lot of other cafes. They have a lot to choose from on the menu, they even have seafood. And I saw a lot to go orders going out. I always want to support black owned businesses and give second chances. However, this will not receive a second chance. Per the menu on UberEats, there is a dish named Seafood Rice. I called and asked what come in the dish. The lady told me shrimp. Great, right?! No, I received a dish with chicken. I called the cafe to inform them of the mix up. The lady immediately became defensive. She told me that the default for the dish is chicken if you do not select a meat choice. I explained to her that it said "seafood" and there was not an option to select a meat. And when did chicken or beef become seafood? She owner proceeds to get upset and raise her voice at me telling me that eating fish is my preference and that she cannot read my mind and with all of her clientele, I needed to call UberEats to fix the issue. I tried to explain to her how the menu/options are in the app and she said, that it is not her problem. After all of her rudeness, I just hung up. This will not get a second chance. read more
