Isabel, in the Westwood store, who dealt with me, has poor customer service skills. She made me uncomfortable by being impatient with me when I had questions about filling out the form. She pretended as if she was doing me a favor, and seemed clueless that I was a paying customer, the people that her bosses and owners care about. There were questions I had about filling out the form, but she pretended like I should know all that and that I was wasting her time. I came here for a quick pickup of a cake. I called in to see what was available. It was my daughters birthday and I needed a cake fast. I was greeted by extremely friendly staff when I entered. They had a variety of cakes to choose from. I was able to add a little saying on top and they did it with gorgeous handwriting. I was also able to get a little candle as well-so convenient! This cake was amazing. The cake was light and fluffy and moist. The icing was not overpowering and the raspberry preserves inside was perfect for the flavor of the cake. I give 2 starts because the cake tasted good but I wanted the cake to look like what I ordered from their website. First big issue was they added strawberries and the cake was for my mom and she doesn't like strawberries. What if someone is allergic to strawberries. And because the top of the cake was covered in hardened chocolate I couldn't easily remove them and would ruin the top of the cake so I had to present the cake to her with strawberries on top. The strawberries didn't look good. Small and tasted bitter like not ripe. The cake advertised on their website did not have the entire top of the cake in chocolate ganache. The picture on the website just had it around the border. I had no time to complain, I needed it for a birthday celebration in couple hours but I think it is super important the customer gets exactly what is advertised especially when it comes to even thinking of adding any fruit. After deciding on which I cake I preferred, she talked me through the different flavor options. Usually, I dislike highly designed cakes. They look amazing, but they taste so-so. But the cake Elizabeth provided was so so delicious (it was white cake with a chocolate ganache filling and an airy chocolate frosting). Kudos to Dessert Works! I had a baby shower this weekend and a classic cake was not on her list. Dessert works came through with a beautiful plate of petit fours and strawberries dipped in chocolate. The platter was lovely. I would have offered a 5/5 but had to drop to 4/5 because the chef's choice platter was non negotiable as far as what I wanted on the tray. Even though I selected five of each option, I ended up with a number of items that were not what I wanted and they included a few options with more than five of each, which reduced the variety to far too many baby cream puffs. As expected, no one touched the items I asked to reduce or remove from the tray, so they went unconsumed. And they didn't include their fabulous tiramisu or many chocolate options. Wah! Absent of that one issue, the desserts were lovely. My suggestion - pick your own dessert choices and just pay the higher fee for going off the forced chef's menu because the other options at Dessert Works are far more amazing than what was on the chef's choice platter. Very accommodating and willing to work from photos and help out with advice. Great prices for such stellar work. Delivery was totally worth it. How the cakes ate, most important to me, was best I've had in a long time. We did dark chocolate cake with chocolate ganache outside, raspberry jam and raspberry mousse. It was delicious. The buttercream under the ganache, used to give it a better shape, tasted like the inside of a chocolate truffle. The ganache was rich and dark. The cake was noise without being too dense. Really, all-around perfect. The second cake was vanilla cake with strawberry mousse, strawberry jam, vanilla buttercream, and lemon curd on top. Decorated with fresh strawberries. I am so happy with my daughter's 1st birthday cake and smash cake that I purchased from Dessert Works. Both cakes were absolutely beautiful! I posted photos of each. The smash cake was in the shape of a pineapple, and the large cake was decorated with hibiscus flowers, flamingos and pineapples. Absolutely beautiful. I sent them pictures of each cake that I wanted, and they came out exactly like I wanted them to look! I have only ordered cake pops from them but they were very good and everything else in the case looked delicious. The staff was very friendly when I worked with them to order a cake for an upcoming birthday. I was extremely dissappointed by a hidden cancellation fee. Dessert Works was very eager to take my payment ($$$) for the cake up front, but did not feel it was necessary to inform me of the cancellation fee. Their staff was happy to walk me through the cake menu and take time to capture my credit card information. When my plans changed and I needed to cancel the cake I was then informed of the fee. The fee was nominal but the principle of not being informed up front was bad business and left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I was told that the cancellation fee is "easily accessible" on their website and they do not feel it is necessary to tell the customer up front. Let me remind you that there is pink pop up when you first go to the website that encourages you to order online and provides info about how to do it but does not mention about the cancellation fee. You must click the X to close that pop up, to find the Cancellation Fee within the "How to Order" dropdown menu which details how cancellations with advanced notice are subject to review. I provided 10 day notice of my cancellation and would expect that would be plenty ot time to cancel without any fee simply to provide a better customer experience. I like the desserts here, but there are other good bakeries, that run more honest businesses which I will choose to celebrate with. read more

Well, it doesn't have to be awkward but if you ask Dessert Works to apply photoshopped images to the top and side of your cake - they'll do it! In my case, these photoshopped images were used to ask my best friends to be groomsmen via surprise cake. The cake was a smash hit. We laughed and then we feasted.
