Sadly the mini cream puffs did not go well with our group. The puff was so hard. Other than that we enjoyed everything else. We ordered mini cream puffs, small cannolis, plain cheesecake, Boston cream cupcake, lemon cupcake, raspberry cupcake, cream filled apple turnover, everything bars, brownie, zeppole, raspberry muffin, apple turnover, and biscotti. 2022 visit I purposely returned to La Luce this time because Thomas S. yelped that he had the best strawberry shortcake of his life here. I gazed over the pastries presented in the glass counter as the girl finished serving the patron ahead of me, and then later paused in my conversation with her about prices and what's popular here, to offer the fellow standing by to please go ahead and order if he already knew what he wanted. Each pastry was nearly labeled with what it was in a clear simple font, but for prices, you got to ask. Generally slices of cake are $5, croissants $4, cookies $0.75. I think she said cupcakes were $3 something, but I'm not sure. I was nearly done with my order when the man in the back half of the counter called her over to give him a hand. He seemed surprised that I still needed her, but I had one last pastry for her to box and still had to pay. She was fine, but he didn't add to the pleasure of my visit. As for the goods - Almond croissant $4 - was a little past golden this baking, but it was filled with an almond paste that had grown creamy melty in the summer heat. Strawberry shortcake for one $5 - not too sweet, light and creamy. It reminded me of whoopee pie in form and the strawberry half on top was a little sad. Almond cookie $0.75 - a crisp crumbly cookie full of almond flavor. I surprisingly enjoyed it quite a lot since I normally prefer chewy or gooey cookies. I have always loved this bakery and have always made it a point to stop by when I can afford to pay for the quality food, but today the service was awful. The woman who I assume owns the bakery was distasteful and rude to me. I even asked if she was alright at which point she curtly replied, "yeah I'm busy". Whoa, the cheese croissant had me shook! This was very surprising and a total 3-dimensional treat. The outside has Asiago and the inside has a different kind of white cheese which I wasn't expecting. I found this bakery after searching on Yelp. And I love it! I purchased a mini pastry platter for a party and were delicious. I love the frosting they use on their cupcakes and half moons! It's fluffy and doesn't taste like a chunk of shortening. The cream puffs are good. If they offered eclairs with real cream puff cream instead of the pudding, I'd gladly give them a 5 star! Popped in yesterday to get out of the house for a minute and eat a pastry to make us happy haha We tried the Boston creme whoopie pie which was absolutely perfect in my opinion, and not too sweet! Go to Wegman's where you will find pleasant staff and better tasting cake than this place. "Big Red" behind the counter was nasty as she snarled at me asking for more information as I requested a cake to pick up under my name. The chef did not follow any of the basic requests I made in terms of cake production. All I asked is that he refrain from adding extra decorative frosting and only put sprinkles around the base of the cake. Instead the cake was a "run-of-mill" standard, ugly, over sprinkled and over frosted cake with tasteless frosting. There was soooo much frosting and only a little dry cake. The woman behind the counter (Jan, 2, 1 00 PM) was irritable from start to finish, despite the fact that we were unfailingly polite towards her. At one point, we removed our masks because we saw another take-out consumer maskless and the front door was wide open (perhaps this explains her attitude)? However, we put them back on immediately and respectfully when asked. She seemed annoyed that I asked to have my croissant heated, and put my mini-pastry into the same bag, so that the pastry was melted by the time I got home. She also answered defensively when I asked if I should put the cream in my coffee myself (I had only been there once before, and didn't remember). The birthday cake we purchased from La Luce this past summer was so memorable, Im still craving it now. Soft and moist cake, fluffy strawberry filling folded in with whipped cream.. wow. It was not at all heavy or sweet. Perfect balance. The pastries (sausage egg croissant, sweet bun, fruit tart) were fresh and crispy, the fruit on tart also fresh. I recently ordered a cake that was not nearly as great as the one I ordered over the summer and the owner asked me to come in and help him make it right. I suggested a few pastries since the birthday had passed. Definitely feel satisfied with how the owner heard and respected my feedback. Decadent! The selection was plentiful and had enough variety from muffins to tarts and all in between. We picked up a fruit tart, plain croissant and raspberry almond muffin. The muffin blew my husbands mind so much that he quietly ate it without offering anyone a piece and then raved loudly after. The fruit tart was great! Good cream fruit shell ratio.
